What fun you'll have with these teeny DIY masonite shrine kits. Your two shrines arrive flat. All you need is a tiny bit of glue to make 2 little traditional style nicho shrine kits. Honestly - these take seconds to put together. And the great coloring of the masonite is perfect by itself - or you can paint or embellish, or glitter it - it's all up to you!
And, you'll have little blocks left (from the windows) for other projects!
The shapes have been laser cut and are easy to remove from the base - and easy to assemble. Just add a bail or other finding to change these into jewelry.
Each finished piece (after it is glued), measures 13/16 (just over 3/4) inch high by 7/8 inch wide. The little niche is almost 1/2 inch high by 7/16 inch wide and about 1/8 inch deep - teensy for sure!

We're showing you two kits. The one in the front has been assembled. The on in the inset has been painted and embellished by the creator of Coffee Break Design Kits - so, just imagine what you might do with it!?
Your completed shrine or memory box will measure 2-3/4 inches wide by 3-3/4 inches wide (not including the decorative top). The inside is sized perfectly to hold Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) and measures just over 2-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches and is 1-1/8 inch deep.
The sample shows a specialty door knob, so you can see that you can alter and add to this in any fashion to make it more yours.
Although our shrine is standing complete without any gluing, you might choose to use glue to hold it more tightly together.

Here's another wonderfully diverse project kit. You can make all kinds of things from this little grouping. But, it was designed for you to make 2 pendants - with just some imagination and glue. We're showing a complete kit on the left and a finished pendant on the right. We used some cording to string hang our necklace, but ball chain, ribbon, cord, hemp - will be just as nice or nicer.
Here are the designer's instructions, but you can certainly choose to do something else if you please:
Glue parts together using a small amount of wood glue - hold together with a rubber band. If you're making a necklace, snap out the channels on the middle piece before assembling. Lock chain in place by using an open ball (if using a ball chain) or glue to hold in round cavity. Paint, collage, embellish or distress as desired.

Immediately this distinctive stencil reminded us of Leonard Cohen's Bird on a Wire. Haven't we all tried to be free like these guys - on their observation wire - taking it all in.
The entire stencil measures 8-7/8 inches wide by 4-1/16 inches wide. The image itself measures about 7-15/16 inches wide by 3-1/4 inches high. Add a dotted line for a wire, or indeed a real wire!
All stencils are created on traditional stencil board - thin, but durable. They are sturdy and reusable many times over. Your images will be crisp and detailed. You can use spray paint, traditional stencil brushes, pencils, paint and your imagination.

Very Large Shrine Kit - La Guardarropa (Wardrobe)
This glorious kit is not for the feint of heart! It takes a bit of patience, but we were able to assemble it in less than 1/2 hour! Of course instructions are included!
We're showing you two kits. The one in the front has been assembled (not yet altered or enshrined). And there is an unassembled shrine behind it.
We love the doors that might be open or closed or partially open)! There are 2 alternatives for the concha top - one slightly larger than the other. and there are two crosses that you might choose to use on the shrine or, indeed, on other projects.
Once completed, your shrine will measure 9 inches high by 5-1/4 inches wide (closed) by 2 inches deep). The pieces are made of 1/8-inch thick masonite, so you can rest assured your final piece will be sturdy.

What a great find! Of course, lots of artists have been using these for some time, but we still love them! The original purpose for these is to hold three 1 by 3 inch glass or plastic microscope slides securely for mailing. Created from chipboard, the mailer opens like a book and inside are three recessed wells to hold the slides.
The rounded indentation at the top of each well is a finger notch to make it simpler to place and remove each slide. Of course, you can do just about anything you want with these - stamp them, paint them, collage or découpage them. Create a little shrine or use it as a special frame (with microscope glass to cover the indentation.
The chipboard is a bit over 1/2 inch thick, so it is nice and sturdy. When closed, the mailer measures 4-3/8 inch by 4-5/8 inches. And, you can actually mail a little shrine to a friend (after securing it so it doesn't open) because each double mailer conforms to US Postal Regulations regarding minimum size for First Class Mail!

Small Unfinished Wooden Altar Nicho

Such pretty variegated jade celluloid components are hard to find. The rectangular shape allows for many uses, especially because the component is flat backed, making it easy to glue. The motif is floral and features cutouts so that the background can show through. The cutouts also make it easy to transform this component into a charm if you wish. Vintage Large White Faux Pearl Dimpled Glass Rosary Chain by the Inch

Add a clasp and you have a great necklace. Add a golden charm and you have a masterpiece.
We love this vintage pearlized dimpled glass chain. It has been created in the rosary style with a single silvery link between two beads.
The beads are all relatively the same size, but differ slightly so that they might resemble the real thing! The average size is about 5/8 inch long by 1/2 inch wide and about 1/8 inch thick.
Please be aware that the pearlized coating is flaking off. Bt, it is such beautiful chain that you might want to rub all of the finish off, or spray it with some kind of fixative to keep it from flaking more.
Add just an inch or two to a special assemblage for a special look. Use several lengths to make a great looking tassel! To separate, gently open a loop on one side of the chain and slip the other side off the loop. Then close the open loop.

We had these wonderfully elaborately detailed crowns created for us! And were we ever delighted when we received them! The crown was created from vintage illustrations of regal crowns. They are laser cut from 1/8 inch thick Baltic birch and then laser cut. The sides are natural wood color and the back has been painted black.
Wonderful for jewelry, shrines, art dolls and all kinds of artwork, you'll find you'll need a lot of these. They are lightweight and might even be used for earrings!
The glorious sapphire blue and royal green in this crown make it ever so much more exciting than most.

Vintage Glass & Rhinestone Cabochon in the Palest of Blues
If you can imagine gorgeous, vintage and blue - this is the item for you! This lovely Czech glass cabochon is the palest of transparent blues, with intaglio etching on the back. The top is smooth and features a firmly seated 1.5mm sparkly clear rhinestone in center. This 5/8 by 3/8 inch piece illustrates how wonderfully such costume jewelry was designed an manufactured back in the 1920s when this was produced.

Mini Triptych Byzantine Icon with Mary & Angels

Icons are associated with the Byzantine rite churches. This lovely handmade triptych (three panel) wooden icon has been hand-carved on the back and individual icons have been découpaged to the front. The images feature Mary in the center with Archangels on either side.
The angel panels are attached by hinges allowing them to close up so that only the wood is seen from the outside. This style was originally created centuries ago for the persecuted who believed in the angels, saints, Mary and Jesus, to be able to hide their images from the persecutors.
The images are highlighted with metallic golden paper, and, in some cases, gold leaf. The entire piece measures 2 inches high by 3 wide inches when open. The hinges allow it to close for portability and for display. When closed, it measures 2 by 2 inches.
The images of Mary usually include Jesus, but a few feature Our Lady alone. Usually one of the angels is St Michael the Archangel, some feature Gabriel or Raphael.
Because these are handmade, each is different from the next, so please let us choose one for you.

What a great little bottle for storing light sensitive mixtures. The glass and the pipette (dropper) are all glass. The stopper is a rubber bulb with a twist black plastic lid. We really just liked the looks of these.
SilverCrow suggests that our regular pipettes (eye droppers) be used as a unique way of adding a controlled amount of water to your watercolor pans or to your penciled-in watercolors on paper. With these little bottles, you can have your water (or other liquid) ready at any moment by storing it inside! The amber color helps protect the contents from fading.

Hand-Carved Round Bone Skull Bead

These wonderful beads are carved on both sides - so they are fantastic for making earrings. We particularly are fond of the teeth. Each is hand carved and aged, made of bone. The stringing hole goes from the top of the head to the bottom, through the center of the bead. These beads have an indented rim around the entire circumference, so they would be great for wire-wrapping as well.
Each one measures approximately 11/16 inch in diameter and is about 1/4 inch thick. The faces are flat on either side, except, of course for the fine carving! The aging was probably done with smoke, however, there is no residual scent at all!

This modern rose cabochon is so wonderfully executed you might just think it was really vintage Lucite. The lovely ivory coloring and the smooth finishing belie its modern manufacture and it almost resembles true ivory. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) in 1943. It is beloved even more today than when it was written. Ostensibly a children's book, there are so many instances in the writings that might be meant for adults to learn - perhaps to be young again.
Our lovely charm features the little prince in his almost-too-big slacks with his scarf trailing in the Sahara wind. Speaking to the businessman who felt he owned the stars:

Our pressed cardboard die-cut Santa Claus in his Airplane is just as much fun as the vintage ones and will work nicely as an addition to old-fashioned Christmas décor. It has been created from vintage molds and made in the same manner as the original in the 1930s. It is lacquer painted and delightfully glittered with diamond dust and real silver glitter that will tarnish with time, so it will have an even older feel! Inside the wings, is an intricately die cut and glittered message:

Mini Amber Glass Bottle with cork Charm
Of course we have lots of other little bottles and vessels and tubes and the like. But, we were quite take by the amber color of these little glass bottles. Each one features a tiny cork with a silvery eye at the top to help it work as a charm.
The cork fits quite snuggly. But, of course, you might want to seal the cork to the bottle with sealing wax, glue or in some other manner if you choose to wear the little bottle.
Not including the cork the bottle measures 15/16 inch high by just under 1/2 inch in diameter at the bottom (the widest part). The cork adds an additional height of about 1/8 to 3/16 inch and the hanging loop adds a touch more height as well.

Little Bird nicho with a shelf!

We're in love again - with this little bird nicho. And, of course, at SilverCrow, we will envision the bird to be a crow, even if s/he isn't one!
This is a small nicho, measuring only 4 inches high by 3-1/8 inch wide. Each one features a hand-cut bird on the top of the glass pane, their to protect your memories and treasures inside the niche.
The niche measures 1-1/2 inch wide by 2-1/8 inches high and about 3/8 inch deep. The little glass door latches with the traditional rolled metal closure.
The best feature of this all-around wonderful nicho is the little shelf in the front. It is a half-circle and features detailed scallops and rays. You might add a small statue or a tiny bouquet or even a tiny framed picture of a loved one. A bottle of sand or earth from a remembered place or a braided lock of hair in a locket would also be lovely. There are just so many possibilities!
There is a hanging loop on the back for your convenience. Of course, as with all of our nichos, this one is hand-made by traditional artisans, so yours may vary ever so slightly from the pictured nicho.

We are particularly fond of this large tin milagro or ex voto because the image traverses many cultures.
Having been produced in Mexico, it is traditionally called a Sacred Hand (La Mano Sagrada). The sacred image is also found in Hindu symbolism.
The Shakers of the Northeastern United States, use a similar image to represent their motto: Hands to work, hearts to God. The Oddfellows, a service organization with origins in the United Kingdom, include the same image with some additional symbols. And the Amish communities also use the symbol.

Vintage Chenille Snowman Pick with Candy Cane and Top Hat
These little fellows are each perched on a wooden pick. And, even though these have been used before, they are in pretty good vintage condition.
Each one is made of chenille and topped with a spun cotton head with hand painted features. His hat is made of shiny black cardstock and topped with a black chenille stem to create his top hat. He is carrying a huge candy cane and right at his neckline is a tiny mercury glass bobble perhaps to represent a bow tie.
Some of the heads have been stamped, Japan on the back to indicate their origin.
Each measures about 3 inches high (not including the stick, which extends another inch or more from the bottom of his chenille base).
Our snowman is a bit repositionable, but please be careful with him, he is from 1950 or earlier!

Paper Angel Ornament
Made in the tradition of vintage Victorian whimsy ornaments, this modern angel is just stunning. Her gown and wings are made of canvas paper and feature Christmas song lyrics. Some of the writing is upside down and we almost returned them. However, we've discovered that the hint of words, when printed upside down, is actually more lovely in pattern and less distracting when looking at the entire piece.
She is trimmed with golden Dresdens and other paper and fabric trims. Her face is quite modern and it seems that she might just be shy.
This is a stuffed ornament, giving it dimension and elegance. It would be as lovely as a package trim as it would be on a holiday tree.
She measures 6-1/2 inches wide by 4 inches high and about 1/4 inch in depth.

Small Nicho Frame - Love Crows
Sometimes the larger nichos are just too big - especially if you want to add to an assemblage or other mixed-media artwork.
The glass window is rectangular and holds a picture about 1 inch wide by about 1-5/8 inch high. But, with some patience, other mementos can be added. Each frame arrives with a holy card or vintage style picture. It is easily removed so that you can add your own picture or artwork from the back via slot at that top of the glass. There is a self-hanger as well.
You can paint, decorate or collage the frame/nicho, but it is quite elegant all on it's own. There is a antiqued copper patina that has been lightly lacquered for effect. There is a lot of detail in this little frame. The crows' wings are highly detailed and even the heart features an extra touch.
This hand-crafted work of art has been individually made by a Mexican artisan the tradition of years of tinwork. Please allow for the variation that handwork promises. Each piece measures about 4-1/2 inches high by 4-5/8 inches wide.

This modern oval rose cabochon caught my eye immediately! I love orange and tangerine! But the style is quite stunning. Just glue it to a ring or a bezel for a pendant. Vintage Lucite Faux Tortoise Cuff Bracelet

We're positive that no faux tortoises were injured in the making of these bracelets. But, they do look quite real. Made from Lucite, a popular early plastic that still thrives today, this is a really cool and comfortable cuff bracelet.
The bracelet measures 7 inches and there is an opening of about 1/2 inch. This is a vintage item, so please use more care than usual when you put it on and take it off.
The lovely colors and their placement vary ever so slightly from bracelet to bracelet, imitating nature quite well. The 3/4-inch width makes this a nice substantial accessory without being too heavy or uncomfortable. The depth is just over 1/16 inch.
The cord is adjustable by spreading the self-knots together (smaller) or apart (larger). The widest is 7-1/2 inches in diameter.

The stringing hole goes from top to bottom and measures just under 3mm, so it should accommodate many beading techniques. The beads measure 1 inch from top to bottom and 1-1/8 inch from wing tip to wing tip.
No two are painted the same and wing color differs, as does the decoration. Each little butterfly has a flower in her hair as well!

Fashioned from reclaimed metal, mostly old oil drums, these magnificent milagro-style crows seemed to be made just for us. Whether it be a dove or a crow, it matters not much, so we choose always to believe that black birds are crows, to protect our souls. Because of that, we choose to believe that they are miracles of nature and, for that reason, to us it is a milagro.
Each one has been hand cut, cleaned and hammered, then coated with sealant for protection. The crow measures just over 3-1/4 inches from beak to tail and just under 3-1/4 inches from bottommost tail feathers to highest wingtip. There is a hole for hanging like a milagro. And, if you cinch the nail tightly, you can change the position of the crow easily as though s/he is flying
Please allow for some variation in size, decoration and the placement of the hole for hanging. Created from recycled metals, the artisans have worked around the metal they've found to create their final products, so much depends on their working resources.

Retablos are portable altars or shrines for contemplation and worship while traveling, at work, etc. Each retablo is hand-painted and is about the size of a matchbox (closed: 2-1/2 inches high by 1-5/8 inch wide and 1 inch deep; open: 2-1/2 inches high by 3-1/4 inches wide by 3/8 inch deep). Our little shrine is made of wood and painted brightly.
SilverCrow's retablo honors Our Lady of Guadalupe, displayed with the Christ child in the center of the triptych. She is accompanied by an angel on either side of her. The figures are hand molded and painted with wonderful detail.

Small Patinaed Copper Flaming Heart Milagro
We could hardly contain ourselves when we opened these gorgeous milagros. Meant for shrines and ofrendas, this small copper heart could easily be used as a centerpiece for a necklace, or, indeed for earrings.

This teensy (measuring only 1-1/4 inch high) resin statue of La Santisima Muerte is much more detailed than you might imagine! Herbs amulets and special charms are sealed in clear resin at the bottom of the statue (see the image on the left).
La Santisima Muerte's (the Death Saint) roots are in the cult of an Indian goddess whom the Aztecs called Mictlancihuatl meaning the “Lady of Death”. She is closely associated with the Day of the Dead and is frowned upon by the Catholic Church, although she is believed by many to be an incarnation of the Blessed Mother, in much the same way as the Virgin of Guadalupe.
La Santisima Muerte is often depicted as a female Grim Reaper. Some versions of this folk saint have her holding a scythe, like the grim reaper, while others have her holding a set of scales. With these scales, she weighs the good and evil of your life. If the good you have done in your life outweighs the bad, Santisma Muerte takes you in one direction, and if the bad outweighs the good, she takes you in the other.

This Asian ceremonial metal-leaf paper is used in rituals and celebrations to ensure that we don't dwell too much on monetary pursuits. The papers are burned or torn, representing the riches of this world. Sometimes this is called Spirit Paper.
Each sheet of rough paper is accented by two pieces of silver leaf, attached to the sheet with adhesive. On half of the sheet, an orange ink or paint wash has been applied over the silver leaf, creating a golden leaf.

These tiny saint beads were originally created to use in bracelets, but we thought the just might have so many other uses, too. Because the stringing holes are on the side. The little beads look like tiny portraits framed in silvery metal, making them even more versatile. They are brightly colored and feature Jesus (in many images) as well as Mary (also, in many forms) and St Francis, St Bernadette, St Anthony and more.

Mini Framed Jean-François Millet Painting
van Gogh Items
Incorrectly attributed to van Gogh, this lovely painting by Jean-François Millet is entitled The Gleaners. The women appear to be doing back-breaking work sifting through the ground after wheat has been reaped, collecting the ears of the wheat.
Millet and van Gogh both painted in the same era. However, van Gogh's paintings seemed to capture the raw essence of the peasant farmers and other workers. And, Millet's work softened the tone of the work, making it more palatable and well received by the connoisseurs of the time.
This little painting is framed in a lovely wood frame and the print is behind acetate, appearing like glass. This is, of course, just perfect for a doll house. But, surely you might use it in any of your projects. It measures 2-1/8 inches by 1-3/4 inch.

Smashed Penny with the Entire Lord's Prayer!

Coins like these have many names, but our favorite is smashed pennies, aka elongated pennies and pressed pennies. The first elongated penny was created for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus during 1892-1893. There are some who believe that there were such coins produced earlier, but the experts have singled this celebration as the beginning.
A smashed penny is is made by forcing a penny (or other coin) through two steel rollers. There is an engraving on one of the rollers (sometimes both sides). A crank (mechanical or electronic) forces the coin through the rollers and squeezes it with extreme pressure. This smashes the coin from round to ...you guessed it...elongated. The pressure pushes the engraving into the penny at the same time it is smashing it.
We've been collecting these since we were children, and now our grandchildren collect them, too. We have long been taken by the detail in the Lord's Prayer Smashed Penny. These were made from shiny pre-1983 pennies, so there is a higher copper content than today's pennies.
Because they are smashed in the process of impressing the prayer, they are super thin, yet sturdy. The new oval shape measures about 1-5/16 long and about 13/16 wide. This makes a wonderful keepsake for your wallet or pocket. And, it's a lovely little token to give a friend.

So tiny s/he'll hardly go unnoticed! Measuring a slight 11/16 inch high by just over 1/8 inch wide, this little skeleton bead features a nice sized stringing hole (.8mm to 1.5mm) allowing for lots of applications. The hole runs from skull to feet.

These enchanting sequins are unused old store stock from the 1920s and 1930s. These are not quite pastel pink shiny sequins that measure about 6.5mm in diameter. They are perfect for embellishing all kinds of things. They are still on the original thread!
Warning: In bunches, these have a slight scent. Early plastics, such as the celluloid in these sequins often contained formaldehyde and other unpleasant additives. Once separated, the scent dissipates and the sequins are in fine condition for use. They have been sealed in plastic for a long while, so please let them air out just a bit before you use them.

Vintage-Style Clear Amber Rose Cabochon in Plastic
This modern rose cabochon is so wonderfully executed you might just think it was really vintage Lucite. The clear amber plastic highlights each layer so that the innermost portion of the flower is darker! It is much lovelier than the photograph!

This brand new ribbon has the look and feel like a vintage counterpart. It is an off white, almost eggshell with sepia images printed and spaced nicely. Each of the individual motifs are delicately printed and feature a French image. The images are about 1 by 1-1/2 inch but can be trimmed if you please.
We are offering this by a repeat of the four images illustrated in our photograph - one of each image all connected. Yours will be cut to order all in one piece. Each repeat is about 7-7/8 inches and will be cut on the bar that is between the motifs. The ribbon itself is 30mm wide (about 1-1/4 inch).
It has a silken or rayon feel, but we suspect this to be a cotton-polyester blend. It was not marked when we received it.

Nicho-Style Natural Tin Curl Frame
For a tiny remembrance or a special school photograph, you'll find this such a delightful change of pace. Rather than a wooden frame, why not display your favorites in this special natural tin frame, created by traditional artisans by time honored methods in Mexico.

These are very special Frida Kahlo Retablos hand made and hand painted with a cool little image of Frida on metal right in the middle surrounded by milagros. Every one of these has been made individually by folk artists in Mexico. On most, the base is hand-painted wood with cut and hammered tin accents and finished with several milagros representing important images in Kahlo's art.
But, the focal point of each piece is the image of Frida on tin, based on one of her self-portraits. Each item is uniquely handmade. They measure approximately 4 inches high and wide. SilverCrow has never seen any two! So, please let us choose one for you.

Vintage Straight Pink, Blue & White Satin Ribbon Rosette Motif

This charming little ribbon rosette measures about 1-3/4 inch from long from point to point. Rosettes measure from 3/8 to 1/2 inch in diameter. They can be fluffed or crinkled a bit to satisfy the size you require. This little motif is perfect for lending an air of vintage delicacy to any project.
Each flower is about the same with a pink rose on either side and blue rosette in between. An eggshell white ribbon holds the rosettes in place. These are sewn, not glued, and probably hail from the 1930s or 1940s.

High Fire Crow or Raven urn
Fashioned after an old-style bottle urn, our high-fire pendant has a natural off-white finish and brown shading for an unglazed look. On either side of the top, you'll find large holes that complement the urn's ancient style. You might use these to add a leather cord and make it into a necklace.
The interior has been glazed, but it should not be considered food-safe or waterproof.
The urn measures 1-3/4 inch tall by 1-3/8 inch wide and 9/16 inch deep. The cork adds another 1/8 to 1/4 inch to the height.
Although meant to be worn as a pendant, we think this little vessel would be perfect for any assemblage, shrine or collage project you might be considering.

Sweet Skeleton Day of the Dead Cameo Charm With Oxidized Silver Frame

This is a modern cameo, made of resin, but it does appear to look just like a cameo of old. But, we don't think there were too many Day of the Dead images carved into cameos in Victorian times, but then again.... She's a perfect fit for the Days of the Dead, Hallowe'en, or any day, for that matter. The cameo is a light cream on black and sits in a pretty ball-border silvery setting.
Including the small hanging loop, this sweet pendant or charm measures about 1 inch high. The cameo itself is 3/4 by 1/2 inch.
