Nicho with Wings & Evil Eye Protector
Combining symbolism from many cultures, this unusual mini nicho features an evil eye protector on the center top crown as well as leaf-like wings.
The shadow box opens in the front with the traditional curled metal closure. You might add a picture like the one in our sample, but, please don't let the traditional use limit your imagination! Although any ofrenda would be meaningful, this nicho is especially suited for nature-oriented projects.
Of course, the niche's depth allows for additional items to be added - perhaps a tiny flask of sand from your favorite beach, a small candle or milagros.

Tiny Heart Nicho
Sometimes the larger nichos are just too big - especially if you want to add to an assemblage or other mixed-media artwork.
Our flaming corazón nicho is really more like a little frame. The glass window is heart shaped and holds a picture about 1 inch overall. But, with some patience, other mementos can be added in the slot, similar to a standard-sized nicho.
You can paint, decorate or collage the frame/nicho, but it is quite elegant all on it's own. There is a antiqued copper patina that has been lightly lacquered for effect. The opening is in the back - just flip up the little metal closure.
This hand-crafted work of art has been individually made by a Mexican artisan the tradition of years of tinwork. Please allow for the variation that handwork promises. Each piece measures about 3-3/4 inches high by 2-1/4 inch wide.

Personal Power Animals for Guidance, Protection and Healing
Horse heals emotional wounds. Buffalo guards new ventures. Raven foretells the future. Drawing on sacred teachings, ancient and modern, this practical new guide helps you identify and honor your personal power animals—those inner companions in the forms of natural or magical animals whose qualities you need to progress in this world.
Access their wisdom as healers, protectors, oracles, and life guides, using simple exercises and activities: meditations; spirit journeys; making an altar and protective amulets; and interpreting animal oracles and dreams. Meet animals in myth and in Celtic, Egyptian, and Native American spirituality. A complete directory provides background and interpretations for 75 land, sea, and air animals, as well as magical beasts like the dragon, phoenix, and unicorn.
We were delighted with this book - for reference and wisdom. Not only does the author, Madonna Gauding, offer activities and discussions, but she provides the background and traditions of the world's many cultures that confirm our connection to the other spirits of this world. This trade paperback measures 7-1/2 by 9-/14 inches, has 144 pages full of wonderfully spiritual illustrations.

Art Postcard - Their Master's Voice
More Music
Book by Michael Sowa
We love Michael Sowa's artwork. With a bit of whimsy mixed with philosophy and thoughtfulness, he often provides us with sleepless nights - just wondering what the story behind them image might be!
From the imaginative mind of artist Michael Sowa, this delightful card will surely enchant any dog or music lover! From the famous RCA advertisements, Their Master's Voice features a theatre full of dogs (mostly the same terrier that the RCA advertisement starred) and a few others. Most are listening to the gramophone on stage, but, as usual with dogs (and people, too), some are not! Sowa's art evokes wonder and amazement; a mix of surrealism and comic illustration, of humor and seriousness.

Golden Saint Simon Charm
More Medals & Milagros
Also known as Maximon, Hermano San Simon is known both as a saint and as a representation of a pre-Columbian Mayan god of the underworld. He is generally represented in 20th century clothing, with a wide-brimmed hat. He is known to represent male power, balancing a moneybag, holding a flag and holding coins in his open hand.
His feast day is at the beginning of the rainy season in South America, and so he is often associated with fertility. He is thought to bring rain and fertility.
Some even call him the patron saint of gamblers, smokers and drunkards. Because of this, he is still worshiped in many Guatemalan villages with offerings of tobacco, alcohol, Coca-Cola and tropical plants. San Simon is pictured smoking and holding a bottle of liquor, beer or wine.
He is thought to wealth and worldly success to those who venerate him, so he is certainly not a traditional saint!
Our gold-plated charm measures about 1-1/2 inches high (including the loop) and about 3/4 inch wide.

Old-Fashioned Laundry Sprinkler - Not Just for Laundry anymore!
More Specialty Tools
Our old fashioned laundry sprinkler fits easily into most household bottles. We think it best when used with a glass bottle, but it should work in a plastic bottle, too.
Martha Stewart is a fan of the laundry sprinkler and has demonstrated it on her show. It was quite common years ago to sprinkle the laundry and then place it in the refrigerator before ironing. Even before the refrigerator, sprinklers were used to help smooth linens and cottons before the steam iron was around.
We still use one of these when ironing our linen tablecloths and doilies and even with some shirts! If you want to make your linens crisp, then you must try one of these old-fashioned 1950s-style plastic and cork sprinkler to fit in your own bottle.
Consider also using our sprinkler to "water" your artwork. Or, use it with other liquids (be careful that they are safe for plastic and cork).
We have even heard of people placing holy water or ritual waters in bottles and sprinkling about their living spaces for blessings and good fortune.

Oh! How happy we were to find this little postcard frame. It's simple to use and allows you to change your décor at the drop of a postcard from a friend. This fun little frame is easy to use (see the instructions) and is able to hold either vertical or horizontal postcards!
Uniquely designed by Armin Metzger, this handy frame works in just about any room. The frame's outside dimensions are 5-1/2 by 7-1/4 inches. The frame opening is 3-3/4 by 6 inches.
(The sample postcard is one of our favorites - The Treasure Seekers).

Calame Reed Pen
The first fiber tip pens were made in Egypt as far back as 500 BC! Made from various reeds (these are bamboo), calames find their roots in reed brushes that were pounded or chewed into shape.
As writing developed, the reeds were split and made into pens. Writing fluid is held in the hollowed out shaft of the reed and flows down through the chiseled or pointed tip, or nib. Our calame features two sharpened ends.
Because of the natural bamboo, calames can only be made by hand.
Now you can create your own old-world documents with a bamboo reed calame or pen and SilverCrow's papyrus! You may even want to buy one as a model to carve your own calame from our bamboo stalks.
And, just imagine what a great show and tell this would be for grade school, art school or with friends of all ages!
