Chinese Knotted Blue and White Porcelain Necklace
More Necklaces
More Asian Items
More Bookmarks
We were taken more by the knotting than anything else on this lovely necklace made of rayon. The knots are just so uniform and elegant! The open loops will allow you to add additional charms if you choose.
It measures 26 inches and is knotted without a clasp - but the end knot is easy to untie, so you might lengthen it with a chain if you choose. We prefer to just slip it over our heads (please take off your glasses first!).
The beads are white porcelain with traditional butterflies, flowers or trees. Each necklace is different and features at least four beads.
Because of the open knotting at the bottom, it is also easy to add an enhancer that you make yourself - or to use this as a bookmark!

More USA & American History
When the Civil War started, there were two types of money in circulation in the North: The largest part was "hard" money - silver and gold coins of the United States Government; the rest was paper money issued by prominent state banks. As the war progressed, more and more hard money disappeared as people began to hoard coins.
In 1862, the U. S. Government began issuing "Greenbacks" (as Federal currency became called) to supplement the states' paper money. Greenbacks were soon in widespread use, amounting to more than half of the currency in circulation. Fractional currency ("paper coin") also became prominently used.
The Federal government passed strict banking laws in 1863: these laws along with heavy taxes soon caused most of the paper money of the private banks to disappear. The laws did not become effective in the South until after the Civil War was over in 1865
The reproductions in this set include antiqued parchment reproductions of original banknotes - they even feel old! This set includes:
$1 Pennsylvania 1865, Bank of Montgomery County
$1 Illinois 1861, Bank of Quincy
$1.50 Washington, D.C., 1862, Farmers & Merchants Bank
$1 New York 1862, Merchants Bank
$2 Maine 1861, Sanford Bank
$1 Nebraska 1863, Bank of De Soto
This is a wonderful way to study history and to preserve the knowledge of one of the most horrible periods in American history.

More Egypt & Africa
More Paper Products
Each of these lovely bookmarks has been hand painted on real papyrus. For protection, each one is in a plastic sleeve with an attached tassel to hold the papyrus inside.
Papyrus is made from the reeds of the plant growing along side the Nile River. It is prepared by slicing, soaking, pressing and drying - the outcome is a completely organic paper that does not destroy the environment during production! It is thought to be the world's first paper.
The colorful designs on each of the bookmarks are all different and are based on art found through out Egypt in temples, tombs and museums. First the black outlines are screen printed and then the color is painted by traditional artisans. Designs vary, so please let us choose one for you.

Multi-Ribbon Bookmark
More Ties
This type of bookmark has long been used to mark several different pages in religious books such as a service missal, Bible or hymnal. Five 15-inch ribbons (red, yellow, black, blue and green) have been stitched into a 1-1/4 by 2-1/4 inch x 2.25 leatherette piece that slides into book spine. We think this would be a great addition to the gift of poetry book, to mark special selections, or a diary. We think they'd be absolutely wonderful as an integral part of an altered book.
