SilverCrow Creations Magical Creatures Challenge
Thanks
Thanks to everyone who entered our Magical Challenge. Everyone who entered should have already
received our Digital Magical Creature Collage Sheet.
If you didn't receive it - let us know, we'll send it right away via email.
We're continually in awe of the tremendous imagination, talent and love that goes into all the artwork. Thanks so much for sharing it with SilverCrow and everyone else.
Voting Process
We had such a hard time picking the winners, that we had to have three rounds of voting.
Each of us got two votes per category. We added up all the votes and whichever had the most, won. But, we had to do 5 rounds, because we all liked different ones. Ballots were secret, so no one influenced anyone else (we hope!) - and all votes were equal. We all wanted our favorites, so, in reality - and we mean this - every entry got votes on the first round! This should be easier, but we love the process!
The listings are only in the order that they are on our server - random and by first name. Most, if not all, of the descriptions are directly from the artists!

Bethany Royston: Fairy Catcher Bracelet This is a "fairy catcher bracelet" SC products include the vintage flowers, mushroom & circus lady performer. The bracelet is from the Dollar Store.
|
Liz Petro: Fairy Door Necklace From SilverCrow: Fairy Door & Hand Charm. |
|
Nancy Jo Leachman: Beneath the Sea
It has nine things from Silver Crow: 4 mermaid beads, 1 Siren bead, 2 Venus Charms, one lighthouse charm, and one Sponge Bob charm. I wanted so much to use Sponge Bob, but I didn't want to spoil the "elegance" of the necklace. So I decided to use him on the clasp. If people see the back of the necklace on my neck after seeing the front, hopefully it will give them a little chuckle.
|
Nancy Jo Leachman: Cameo Fairy Necklace I've made two necklaces for the challenge. This is the first one. I liked the logo you chose for the contest so much that I decided to try and make a necklace that looked like it. The brown and beige fairy cabochon on the green leaves looked so good. This necklace has two things from SC -- the cabochon and some of the green glass leaves. I think when you asked for dimensions you weren't thinking of necklaces, but this is about 22". But it's adjustable with a hook closure, so it could be shorter or longer. |

Anne Squire: Darwin's Theory ATC I was just outside taking a picture of the flock of dead fairies (is four a flock?) and one dead angel on their purple glitter tree. I may do a journal entry later, but for now, here's the photo attached. If it doesn't work, let me know and I'll try for another one - it's sunny today, so it's not too hard to take photos outdoors. The tree is from Michael's several Halloweens ago - I stuck it into some florists' foam, jammed that into a silver flowerpot and strewed those flat iridescent marbles over the foam, and it sits on top of a utility cabinet with the rest of the art dolls and things I've made. Cate Amador: Pet Loss Card: Cat This is a card; I make Pet Loss cards to sell for the shelter. The Silvercrow product was Dresden butterfly wings. Inside:
what the caterpillar perceives as the end |
|
Cate Amador: Pet Loss Card: Dog Another pet loss card. With glass glitter. Front reads:
We give them back to you, dear Lord,
Inside reads:
Yet as you did not lose them in giving,

Shirley Galbraith: Fairy Slide This was made from a single microscope slide mailer. Another object from Silver Crow is the small House Trinket Shrine kit on the front. The piece measures 3 1/2 by 1 1/2. Please note that this was entered into our Altered Art category, but several of our judges thought it was a card and voted for it in the Paper category. We all argued for some time about it and finally the people who knew it was altered art gave up!

Theresa Smythe: Departed Soul Here is another entry for the Magical Creatures Challenge. This one is for the paper category. It's an ATC I made using SILVERCROW'S blank ATC cards. |
|
Theresa Smythe: Panda And last but not least, another ATC I made using the blank ATC cards from Silvercrow--for the Paper Category in the Magical Creatures Challenge. And that's it for me, because I don't do jewelry! Good luck everyone!

Anne Davis: Butterfly Girl Takes a Flight of Fancy I call her "Butterfly Girl Takes a Flight of Fancy", and the tin I used as the basis is about 5x7". Butterfly Girl uses some of your Dresdens and butterfly scraps, among other things. I was inspired by an online class taught by Carol Murphy. I can't wait to see what your other customers come up with - you've got some very talented people. For more info, see Anne's Live Journal entry. |
Anne Davis: (Dead) Fairy Tree I was just outside taking a picture of the flock of dead fairies (is four a flock?) and one dead angel on their purple glitter tree. Theresa Smythe: Bunny Container You can find this lovely bunny lady in Theresa's Etsy Shop: Hugs Across the Universe. I'm really proud of this entirely handmade candy container~can't wait to make more! Cute bunny rabbit is flocked from head to toe and made from a paper mâché ball (imported from Germany) with a nice purple flower lining inside. The cool thing about her is you can't immediately tell she is a container--so perfect for that secret stash of candy you like to hide or your fine jewelry for that matter. She sports a wool felt skirt as well as wool felt ears (not that cheap acrylic felt) and vintage millinery from Japan as well as vintage chenille stems. Googly eyes and a bobbing neck make her stand out from all your other Easter decor. She carries the "hatu" stamp of approval under her feet and would make an excellent and unique gift this Easter. This bunny is really ready to "spring" into action this holiday! Don't let her pass you by!

Bethany Royston: Mermaid Journal This is for the Altered Art category. This is a small journal (SilverCrow Bonus gift) The SC products used are the 2 mini mermaid's holding flowers beads, the grab bag of vintage flowers & of course the small journal. |
|
Jamie Dunn: Faery Dreams Journal Altered art category. I used marbleized wrapping paper to "wrap" a blank 8 X 10 journal and used die cut faeries in a collage. The faery charm makes a nice bookmark! All from SilverCrow Creations (except the journal)!! |
Theresa Smythe: Sailor Duck Ahoy There! Here is my second entry for the Magical Creatures Challenge! Sailor Duck is made from an egg shaped paper mache box from Germany via Silvercrow! He's in the altered art category and stands about 6 inches tall.
|
|
Theresa Smythe: Second Bunny (not an Entry) Theresa Smythe (altered art): I'm only allowed two entries but I wanted to show this candy container, using another paper mache ball AND the chenille carrot from Silvercrow! |
Anne Squire: Look Closely - It's There This is really a story - from picture one through 5:
(Using the box the Dead Fairy Kit came in. Just about everything came from you, mostly in various shrine kits (including the one I won for the Tsunami shrine!) except for the mirror, the beads, the Fairy House stamp, which came from Third Coast Rubber stamps, and the papers on the back of the house. The glasses lens gave quite a different feel to it when back-lit before I put the backing papers in. (part of one of your paper bags that you pack stuff into). The little lamp in the bottom of the house-front was painted with Lumiere gold to give it a warmer glow than the basic silver colour. The first 4 pictures were photographed. The last was scanned:: fascinating the way the scanner put venetian blinds behind the house's white curtains.

|
Shirley Galbraith: Fairy Box This little scene was made in a 3 by 1 3/4 sliding matchbox. Also, the little window on the fairy house came from the window shrine kit. Both objects were from Silver Crow.
