The peace sign is also known as the victory sign. The hand gesture features the index and middle finger open in the shape of a V and all of the other fingers are closed (the thumb over the other two). It is believed that it originated with Winston Churchill.
Later, during the Viet Nam War, it was adopted as a protest in the United States against war and it has since come to represent an express of anti-war. Hippies were a prominent subculture at that time and they often said, "Peace" when showing the hand sign - so, it became known as the peace sign.
Today people use it to express goodwill and peace between friends, neighbors and others.
Our little charm measures 1-1/2 inch high by 3/8 inch wide if held upright, but the loop is on the side of the index finger, which changes the orientation a bit.

These little handmade pots, bowls and jugs are a traditional Mexican craft. They are used for doll houses as well as for ofrendas or tables in celebration of Los Dias de los Muertos. They measure about 1/2 to 3/4 inch in diameter and another little bit for the handle or handles.
You might also choose to use these as little charms for a necklace or assemblage.
There are are shallow serving bowls and round-bellied pots. They are all hand-formed, and hand painted and decorated, mostly with floral designs. so each is a bit different than the next. There is a primitive glaze applied for the firing which makes these absolutely stunning in their simplicity and old-world look.
Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera created designs made of these mini pots on their kitchen walls. They were collectors of most, if not all, traditional Mexican crafts.

The first talking board, similar to the Ouija board was used in China around 1100 BC. The origins of the name Ouija are less known and more highly debated. The first modern Ouija board was patented in 1891 and was quite similar to the ones we know today.

We fell in love with these darling little beaded people. They resemble dancing dolls, but could be clowns. They were originally called stick charms - because the look like stick people. The arms and legs are slightly posable, but we suggest you don't do much of that - you wouldn't want them to break. Each charm measures 1 inch long and about 1/2 inch wide.
There is a teeny weeny ring atop each little person's head. You can use this to attach to your charm bracelet or other project.
These are vintage old store stock from the mid-20th century. They are made of glass seed and other beads.

We think it's because of the unique components She is made of molded plastic and then distressed richly, making her scarier than ever. Her little broom is made of horsehair fibre, which adds another eerie effect.
Because of the positioning of her broom, she looks best flying left to right. Although she is reversible, her broom is more prominent as pictured. Her other profile is less distressed.

There are so very many ways to find a pet. But what we love most is when our pets rescue us. There are rescue groups for just about every purebred dog and the animal shelters rescue so many other dogs of the Heinz-57 variety. But, we believe that the dogs rescue us - not the other way around.
Dolly, our Dalmatian, and Bo-Bo Duke and Flossie, our retired racing greyhounds have rescued us more than once. Because our lives are so very much more hectic with them around, we forget about our troubles - what more could anyone ask?!

The term white elephant is one we remember from the 1950s and 1960s tag sales - often called White Elephant Sales. The white elephant was a rare and beautiful animal and considered sacred in southeast Asian countries as Burma (now Myanmar), Siam (now Thailand), Laos and Cambodia. Still sacred in Myanmar and Thailand, the White Elephant is expected to bring peace and prosperity to the owner. Receiving a gift of a white elephant is both a blessing and a curse. It's rarity makes it a blessing, but to care for it makes it a curse, as it is so expensive.

This round circle bundle of beads is composed of little triplets. Three little bead charms are hooked together on a jump ring. Each of the 144 little triplets can be used just as is or taken apart and used individually. That would make 432 little individual linked bead!
The beads measure 4mm in diameter and are a gorgeous royal blue. The metal loops are made of aged brass. Now, these are vintage, and we didn't count each individual bead on the hank, but we're pretty sure it's close if not exactly 144 triplets.

The 7 Powers are attributed Yoruban derived religions, mainly spread by the movement of African peoples throughout the world, particularly into the Americas. The Siete Potencias are Eleggua, Ogoun, Chango, Oya, Obatala, Ochun, and Yemaya. These are the archetypal forces in the universe - that are the ruling forces of nature and universal law.

Mini Handmade Glazed Terra Cotta Pot, Jug or Bowl with Handle
These little handmade pots, bowls and jugs are a traditional Mexican craft. They are used for doll houses as well as for ofrendas or tables in celebration of Los Dias de los Muertos. They measure about 1/2 to 3/4 inches in diameter and another little bit for the handle.
There are are shallow bowls and pots as well as a few jugs. They are all hand-formed , so each is a bit different than the next. There is a primitive glaze applied for the firing which makes these absolutely stunning in their simplicity and old-world look.

Whether our donkey is a jack (male) or jenny (female), it is so very sweet. Donkeys were endeared to Jesus Christ, who was often pictured riding one. Although they are work animals, many of them are treated as pets. Other religions are not as fond of the animal. Vintage Mechanical Plastic Turtles from the 1960s
These great little old-stock mechanical turtles arrived after a long hibernation in storage. Meant for the vending machines of the 1960s, these little fellows have a wiggly tail and head. They were probably only a penny (or at most a nickel) way back when a small coin could get a ton of loot for kids who knew where to look!
These are in great condition for their age, but be careful with them because they certainly weren't designed to last. There is a little loop hole on the bottom of each - so you can even turn one into a charm.
We've crated each one in a tiny reusable plastic case to protect him on his way to you. These are in assorted colors only - some are two-tone (head and tail one color and shell another) and some are all one color. There are so many variations, please let SilverCrow choose one for you.

Cave Drawing Bird Charm

Of course, when we're not sure what kind of bird is in a component or picture, we automatically assume it to be a crow. That's what we did with this bone component. It has been hand-finished and decorated with petroglyph or cave drawing of a bird and its tracks.
Each of these is slightly different as natural materials such as bone feature variation as a part of their charm. Each measures approximately 35mm wide (just less than 1-1/2 inch). The image of the bird and its tracks is carved into the bone piece an then darkened for emphasis.

Our lovely Calla Lily pendant or charm measures 1-3/8 inch from top of the bail to the tip of the blossom and just less than 3/4 inch wide at its widest. The actual blossom may either face left or right. If you have a preference, we will try to honor it.

These delicate yet strong natural beetle wings are from the Thai Emerald Beetle (sternaceras echisinata/acquisagnata). For years they have been used traditionally as jewelry and ornament. The wing is curved slightly toward the back, just as on the beetle. The beetles die after reproducing, and the Hill Tribes in the northern forests of Thailand consider them good luck and wear them in many manners.
Their natural iridescent color is just tremendous. Each one has a small hole in the wider end, ready to use in your project. Because these are so lightweight, they make wonderful earring components. Silvery Milagro Eye Charm
While this is not really a milagro, it resembles one. Double eye milagros generally represent a connection to the popular Santa Lucia, who suffered blindness while being executed. In the end God restored her eyesight.
The single eye might also venerate St Lucy, but more likely, it represents the spirits watching over us. When added to the frame of a picture of a departed one, the eye acts as an angel's eye - watching over the spirit of the beloved ancestor. It may have some connection to the evil eye talismans, but this is not certain.

Venus de Milo is also known as Aphrodite of Milos. She is an ancient Greek statue - in fact, one of the most recognizable sculptures in the world. Not too much is known of this glorious piece of art. Since it was found in the late 1800s, it has been believed that she is Venus (Roman) or Aphrodite (Greek).
Made of marble, she is slightly larger than life at 6-3/4 feet high. Her arms are missing as is her base. On display in the Louvre in Paris, there is much controversy over the sculptor, but it is thought to be Alexandros of Antioch because of an inscription on the her now missing plinth.

Golden Saint Simon Charm
Also known as Maximon, Hermano San Simon is known both as a saint and as a representation of a pre-Columbian Mayan god of the underworld. He is generally represented in 20th century clothing, with a wide-brimmed hat. He is known to represent male power, balancing a moneybag, holding a flag and holding coins in his open hand.
His feast day is at the beginning of the rainy season in South America, and so he is often associated with fertility. He is thought to bring rain and fertility.
Some even call him the patron saint of gamblers, smokers and drunkards. Because of this, he is still worshiped in many Guatemalan villages with offerings of tobacco, alcohol, Coca-Cola and tropical plants. San Simon is pictured smoking and holding a bottle of liquor, beer or wine.
He is thought to wealth and worldly success to those who venerate him, so he is certainly not a traditional saint!

Phaistos Disc
The Phaistos Disc is very much a mystery. While it displays 241 images (aka, tokens) with 45 distinct glyphs, the actual message on the disc is quite bewildering. It is thought to have its origins around 1700 BC in Crete. But, it is thought to be foreign as it doesn't resemble any other images from Crete. Diagonal lines are interspersed amongst the symbols, perhaps signifying the end of the thought (as in a sentence). These were thought to be created from stamps - pressed equally from either side (as the two sides are different).
This antique silver plated charm will make an interesting pendant, or use it in your artwork for a touch of the mysterious and ancient.

Oxidized Silvery Chai Charm
This well known symbol, seen worldwide on ornaments, jewelry, T-Shirts and more, is the Hebrew word for living - Chai. It is a combination of the two Hebrew letters Cheit and Yod.
As with any symbol there are many interpretations. Our favorite is that this simple symbol represents the importance of life.
