This cute little chicky was hiding amongst the boxes we recently found when rearranging our merchandise. We bought them new for Easter of 2005 and they are now retired. While this is not quite old store stock (it's not vintage enough for that), our chick is hard to find, so we're delighted that you might be able to add to your collection.

Now you can create the same effect yourself with this mirrored paper by looking into it and bending, tilting and twisting the mirror in different directions. The most fun happens when you open and close your mouth!
Our little wind up frog couldn't wind himself up to leave, he was having so much fun!
This is the same paper we use to make our Fun House Mirror Pinback Buttons.

Vintage Embossed Die Cut VINTAGE Scraps - Masquerade
More Vintage Scraps, Dresdens & Die Cuts
More Circus, Clowns & Carnivals
Vintage scraps marked PZB were produced by the Paul Zoecke company of Berlin, Germany. PZB created scrap pictures from 1880 through 1980. We are fortunate enough to have these wonderful old scrap picture sheets that were never used. The are old stock inventory and are over 50 years old. These old sheets are quite collectible and are becoming more and more rare.
These are in superb condition for their age, but please remember that they are old and time is the enemy of paper, no matter how well protected. So, please be careful with them as their connecting ribs may be fragile.
Even though these are collectible, we still like to use them for creating vintage-style ornaments and décor - with vintage parts.
These lovely and well-behaved children are dressed for masquerade - we're not sure when or where the party might be! Each motif measures approximately 4-1/2 inches high and about 3 inches wide. Each sheet contains 2 of each motif (4 motifs total).
The scrap relief sheet is approximately 9 inches by 7 inches, ready for you to clip and use in your artwork. And each sheet is lightly embossed to accent the images.

Old Store Stock Large Vintage Paper Rosette Fan - Never Used
Smaller Rosette Fans & More Vintage Things

Sweet Paper Rosette Fans like these were made in Japan from the 1930s through the 1950s. Two flat sticks are glued to honeycomb paper. When you open the sticks and rotate them 180° - each in the opposite direction, as if by magic a round, colorful fan appears. This one measures 8-1/4 inches when unopened and 12 inches high when open. The fan is about 8 inches in diameter.
These are over 50 years old, so please be careful when opening them. We have not opened each one as they are unused old store stock and we wanted to leave them in their original state for you. We have packaged them in groups of three. All of the ones we have opened are in fine shape, but we cannot guarantee them all as they are vintage paper.
There are several colors - most are the bright colors in the photo. Two fans are shown in the illustration.

Mr. Peanut Charm
Peanut Erasers
We're not so sure when these guys were originally created, but we are sure that they're pretty silly. They appear to be from the mid-20th century, because of their make-up. Each one features what seems to be a broken peanut shell. One of the little peanuts is peaking out, but alas, s/he cannot see anything, because, s/he has no eyes - just a giant, happy, toothy smile! What fun!
Each charm (or pendant) measures 2-1/8 inches long by 5/8 inches wide (at the widest point). there is a little hole at the top with a golden jump ring for easy attaching.
One of our customers just told us that these were a "symbol" for Jimmy Carter during his presidential campaign in 1976 - he was a Georgia peanut farmer! We're not sure whether they were supposed to be positive or negative, but we know they are fun!
Two peanut charms are shown in the illustration.

Vintage Mint 1966 Circus Clown 5¢ Postage Stamp (USA)
More Vintage Stickers & Stamps
More Circus, Carnival & Arcade
Oh! That we could mail a simple letter in the USA for only 5¢! But, we cannot! There has been an almost 90% increase in postage since this stamp was originally issued in 1966.
We've collected vintage postage stamps from the USA and around the world since the 1950s. What changes there have been - even in the printing. Although the commemorative stamps today are quite lovely, we are drawn to the older stamps that used process printing and even lithography so long ago.
This funny clown is just right for your circus project - even if it is the Circus of the Soul! Each stamp measures 1 inch wide by just over 1-1/2 inch high. perforations were torn evenly, not cut. Each stamp is packaged in a tiny clear plastic sleeve for safe-keeping.
Stamps from this era, like this one, are gummed rather than self-stick. They were made with water-activated adhesive. If you choose to use this as a stamp (of course it is still good for postage in the USA), or for your artwork, we suggest that you use a sponge or other applicator to activate the adhesive as we do not know the entire provenance of these beauties.

Yellow Clown Die Cut
More Clowns, Carnivals & Circus
This reproduction of an antique scrap is new, but in the tradition of Victorian scraps and die cut ornaments of old. The archetype poignant clown with tears behind his smile is represented here in this gorgeous reproduction die cut.
This can easily be used as a delightful gift tag (there is a space for to: & from: on the back), or an old-fashioned ornament or as an addition to your circus artwork. Use a bit of mica or glass glitter and you might even fool someone into thinking this is an old one.
The little die cut is made of lightweight cardboard rather than paper, so you might even add an easel backing for stand-up display. It is not embossed. The clown measures 5-1/4 inches high by 3-3/4 inches wide.

Vintage White Swan Park Ticket
More Circus, Carnivals & the Like
Old tickets are so much fun! They're great for assemblage, card-making, even to use for tickets (imagine that!!!) These great old tickets are for a special event at a wonderful old family-owned amusement park (nope, not a theme park) in Western Pennsylvania - not too far from SilverCrow. At one time there were many of these small parks around - people didn't drive as far for a day of fun or fly, for goodness' sake! Now there are still two left - Kennywood and Idlewild Park (with Storybook Forest, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood & More) and a very old park, Conneaut Lake Park just re-opened. So, everything old is new again, thank goodness!
On each ticket, there is a sequenced number and the rest of the ticket reads,
WHITE SWAN PARK Airport Parkway - PGH., PA. SPECIAL TICKET Good for All Amusements Not Redeemable Not Good Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays CLOSED MONDAYS
Globe Ticket Company, Phila.
These tickets are quite collectable in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, area because there were so many kids (who are now much older) with so many wonderful memories there.

Art Postcard - Boy at Circus, New York, 1943
This little fellow is having the time of his life, that's for sure! With his binoculars almost glued to his eyes, he's watching a circus act - we're not even sure which one. The glee in this face is the highlight of this fine example of black and white photographic portraiture that has come to be known by artist Weegee (Arthur Fellig).
Fellig's nickname, Weegee, is a phonetic version of Ouija. As a news photographer, he was so often the first to arrive at the scene after a crime, a fire or other event. But, we was also known for documenting typical events of his time in New York, such as this wonderful circus scene.

Close-Up of Shoes in Use
Vintage Balloon Shoes - Package of 5
Black Skull Balloons
Oh, wow! Were we ever excited to have found these! These are so very special - they were made in the 1940s and were usually include with a figural balloon, like a clown or Santa or even a Disney character. They were actually mentioned in the June, 1951 issue of Mechanix Illustrated.
This little cardboard gizmo looks just like a pair of clown shoes. The die-cut cardboard is charming in its simplicity. And, the instructions are printed right on the item itself:
TOSS-UP BALLOON Twist balloon at mouthpiece, inserting end in hole in card- board feet, pull up through slot.
Now the fun begins. Once the balloon is placed in the shoes, you toss it up and wow! it lands on its feet. The simple physical dynamics make it work.
We have seen packages of these with their balloons sell for as high as $85.00!
Why not have some old-fashioned fun with these at your next party with balloons. These are meant for balloons you blow up yourself, not for helium-inflated balloons.
Each piece measures about 5 by 3-1/2 inches. They arrive in packages of 5. Balloon not included.

Maxfield Parrish Postcard Booklet
This alluring print, The Lantern Bearers (1910), by Maxfield Parrish has been professionally matted and transformed into a frameable note card. It will fit any standard 5 by 7 inch frame. The card is blank inside, so you can add your own message. Each comes with a white acid free, beveled edge mat that has been professionally cut. Each card is sealed in a protective sleeve that you remove before sending it in the accompanying envelope.
Maxfield Parrish and fellow artists of his time represented the Art Nouveau movement to some extent, but is best known for his oft-copied individualistic style. Parrish's art features extremely luminous colors. In fact, he even had a color named for him - Parrish Blue.
His technique was masterful, created by glazing - creating a base of blue and white, then varnishing, then adding a color, then varnish, etc.
Now you have a card that becomes a present, too! Such a dazzling print as this might cost much more on its own!

Art Postcard - Circus Sideshow People, New York City, c 1930
Sideshows have virtually disappeared from the Circus and Carnival Circuit although a few can still be seen around the world. Because many of the acts involved people and animals with disabilities and handicaps, customers had dwindled, not wanting to take advantage of the performers. There was much protest by the performers themselves, because often these were the only jobs available to them. This provocative photograph features small and large people, sword swallowers and performs of all kinds.
The photograph was taken by Century Studio and is taken from a photo in the Hertzberg Circus Collection at the San Antonio Public Library

Small Cigarette Smoker Edwardian Reproduction Paper Mask
More Masks More Hallowe'en
From about 1901 (right after the Victorian period) up to about 1910, or even as late as 1918 (after World War I), British society suffered a very rigid system, despite the new philosophies and politics floating about. The want (and need) for more liberal thought and a move for greater social acceptance of all British started despite the seemingly unmovable morés at the time.
The Edwardian Period was also known as the Belle Époque (Beautiful Era), a time for elegant masquerade balls with gorgeous gowns and absurd masks such as this, our Jester Cigarette Smoker.
The mask arrives flat and is simple to wear with black ribbon on either side for securing your mask. It measures about 10-1/2 inches.

Tiny Vintage Paper Rosette Fan - Package of 3
More Vintage Things
Sweet Paper Rosette Fans like these were made in Japan from the 1930s through the 1950s. Two flat stick are glued to honeycomb paper. When you open the sticks and rotate them 180° - each in the opposite direction, as if by magic a round, colorful fan appears. This one measures 2-1/2 inches when unopened and 3-7/8 inches high when open. The fan is about 2-3/4 in diameter.
These are over 40 years old, so please be careful when opening them. We have not opened each one as they are unused old store stock and we wanted to leave them in their original state for you. We have packaged them in groups of three. All of the ones we have opened are in fine shape, but we cannot guarantee them all as they are vintage paper.
There are several colors - most contain washed blue and pink, some are yellow and some have a splash of green.

Vintage Carnival Prize - Bird Whirler
More Birds
More Vintage Stuff
Wow! This large (10-inch long) bird is made of cardboard and feathers. S/he was hand painted and has chopped up cellophane for hair! This great little pink, white and blue bird was probably originally red, white and blue. But, it's just as cool in its faced glory.
Each bird is attached to a wooden stick by a long string. Holding the stick, you swing the bird around your head and the bird will fly and make a squeaking noise. These are vintage, so please allow for some variation in color and expected wear.
Although it is not marked, we suspect that this fun toy was made in Japan. It is in great condition for its age, having been from some time around 1950. They were found in storage in the Columbus, Ohio warehouse of a carnival distributor.
These are really fun! You've just gotta try one!

Fear of heights, fear of spiders, fear of flying, fear of death, fear of clowns--everyone is afraid of something. And these pop-ups place you in the hot seat--whether it's the dentist's chair as the drill comes spinning toward you; looking over the edge of a skyscraper whose sheer face plummets thousands of feet to the sidewalk far below; or the window seat of a plane as the oxygen mask deploys, your drink spills, and the horizon line shifts to an angle that is suddenly, terribly wrong…
