Ready to Slice & Bake Fimo Stick/Roll - Bear Lover

How much fun are these!? We've tried to learn to roll Fimo & other polymer clay into sticks or rolls and we always end up with marbleized clay - a fancy way to say we couldn't come up with a picture. With these, we don't have to worry. The picture has already been rolled into the sticks. So, all you do slice and bake. Don't worry, the instructions are included.

Our pink Fimo roll features a little brown teddy bear holding onto a heart. Or, is s/he offering it to you?

You can slice them to any depth - and can even make the diameter smaller or larger (instructions for this technique included, too). To make a bead or charm, just make a hole before you bake.

Rolls measure 50mm long by 15mm in diameter (about 5/8 inch). So you can make a bunch of beads, components or charms from just one roll!

Although many glass beads are hand-made, furnace glass beads are even more special - as they are actually made by glass-blowing. The glass-blower begins just as though a vase or glass was being made! After pulling a long hot tube of glass (this sometimes takes two people), the hot glass is sliced in to pieces like these.

Each of these temporarily strung strands contains from 65-70 cube (square-sided) beads. While no two strands are alike, all of the strands we have are similar to the one pictured. The beads are assorted jewel-tone colors.

We at SilverCrow are big time fans of anything made with chenille pipe cleaners (aka chenille stems). Grandfathers used to clean their pipes with these and we'd scarf a few to make little ornaments of our won.

These old fashioned bunny ornaments are in distress (oops! we mean they've been distressed) - to look so vintage! Each one measures about 4-inches high, but, because they are bendable - you might choose to pose them in a different positions! Each carries a a little carrot (probably trying to imitate that famous Bugs!)

The bunnies' heads are made of a reproduction scrap that has been cut neatly to resemble the Victorian scraps of old.

We are great fans of anything handmade and this charm is just that. Rather than a bouquet of flowers, consider buying your friend, or, of course yourself, these everlasting miniature flowers sealed in resin and set in sterling silver. They'll last a lifetime.

The horticulture is called flores pequeñas (small flowers in Spanish). Along the lines of the Japanese bonsai, these flowers are still the same as their larger counterparts - just more dainty. The flowers are harvested and arranged in pleasing motifs and then cast in resin to preserve them.

Our little heart is set in sterling silver and measures 3/4 inch high (7/8 inch with the bail) by 11/16 inch wide. The basic floral display is the same in each of these lovely hearts, but each will be different as all are handmade, and the flowers are natural. So, please let us choose one for you.

Hollywood Dollies is a series of paper cutout doll sheets of famous motion picture stars in original costumes from movies. This sheet features the elegant star of the silent screen, Mae Murray. The sheet measures 10 by 13 inches and is ready for you to cut out the doll and her costumes.

Mae Murray was born Marie Adrienne Koenig in 1889. She is primarily known for her work in silent films with the likes of John Gilbert and Clifton Weg. Her most famous film was probably the film The Merry Widow directed by Erich von Stroheim in 1925. But, she was quite the talented cabaret and dance star on stage. She also produced and wrote several films. She may have introduced full lips to Hollywood before collagen - she was known as The Girl with the Bee-Stung Lips.

Ms Murray started a charity with several other prominent cinema business people to care for indigent screen actors and crew. Unfortunately, later in life she suffered from dementia and used the resources of the charity.

Once given to customers in lieu of coupons, these were a clever form of advertising - many people wanted to keep them as souvenirs, so the merchant rarely had to cash them in! And, if someone did us one, it could be given to yet another customer - not like today's throw-away coupons.

First issued in the 1930s, these were introduced when banks were failing as a promissory note of sorts. Most had expiration dates - some even expiration times. So, the phrase "Don't take any wooden nickels" was warning the buyer to beware of soon-to-expire change s/he might receive! Later, they were used as commemoratives for celebrations, and as coupons.

What a great idea for show-and-tell at any age!

Vintage World War II US Army Overseas Service Stripes

Service stripes are also known as hash marks or bars in the US military. They are presented to enlisted service members to denote length of service. Each of these bars (or stripes) were used to commemorate 6 months of overseas service during World War II.

These authentic gold stripes are unused and backed with buckram, commonly used to stabilize the felt cloth for embroidery. The felted material is what appears to us to be an army green/brown over-dyed wool.

We were fortunate to obtain a length of them, so we will cut them to order. All stripes you order will be in one piece as pictured in the illustration.

Five stripes are illustrated above, denoting 2-1/2 years of overseas duty. These were awarded in recognition of time served, regardless of the type of service. A soldier need not have served in actual combat to receive stripes.

The links represent world religions by symbol:

SIKH - The Khanda Emblem symbolizes the four pillars of Sikh belief, represented by symbolic weapons. In the center is the double-edged sword (Khanda), representing knowledge of divinity and the creative power of God. Surrounding this is a circular ring (Chakkar), symbolizing the unity of God. Chakkar and Chakra are derived from the same root. And, on either side, crossed kirpans (Piri & Miri), symbolizing spiritual and temporal power in balance.
JUDAISM - The Star of David is the most recognizable modern emblem of the Jewish religion. Legend has it that the image was used by King David of the Bible as his shield. The association with Judaism did not come until the middle ages. In Kabbalistic tradition, the hexagram symbolizes the six directions of space: the divine union of male and female energy, and the four elements.
CHRISTIANITY - The Cross, though generally representative of the Christian religions, has been a religious symbol for thousands of years. Because it was originally thought to be a pagan symbol, it was not the first representation of Christian faith. The most well known cross is the Latin cross, representing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. When it is pictured with the image of Christ upon it, it is called a crucifix. A true Latin cross, when folded, creates a cube, an ancient symbol of earthly authority.
ISLAM - The Star and Crescent, is recognized as the symbol of the Islamic faith, but is not accepted by all Muslims. This is an ancient symbol, seen as early as 200 BC. There is no mention of this symbol in the Koran.
HINDUISM - The Omkar, or Om Symbol derives from the Sanskrit. Om (ohm) is considered the primordial sound by which the earth was created, symbolizing the unfolding. It symbolizes unfolding, growth and expansion. Omkar represents the Om and its four parts represent the four states of human awareness: the material state (ordinary waking), the state of deep sleep, the dream state and the awakened state (absolute conscience). Many eastern religions celebrate the Om.
BUDDHISM - The Dharma Wheel, also known as the dharmachakra, is Buddhist symbol that originates in the Hindu. The surrounding circle symbolizes the completeness of the Dharma. Its eight spokes represent the eight tenets of Buddhist belief that lead to enlightenment: right faith, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right endeavor, right mindfulness and right meditation. Generally circular symbols represent continuity and eternal rebirth, rather the Dharma Wheel represents the ability to overcome obstacles.

Xiuhtecuhtli is the oldest of the Aztec gods. He is the caretaker, the personification of light in the darkness, warmth in coldness, and life in death. He is a god of light and fire.

The Aztec century was 52 years. At the end of each century, the Aztecs feared that the gods would discontinue their agreements with mankind. Feasts in their honor were held to appease the gods, particularly Xiuhtecuhtli.

Mexican artist Angel Cerón has created a unique rendering of the famed god that almost appears to be an antiquity. Each statue measures about 9 inches high.

Small Sumi Ink Stick

Sumi ink has been made in the traditional fashion - from burnt wood - for more than 3,000 years. Asian artisans process the wood residue from burnt wood into solid sticks of ink in the same manner today - just a bit more quickly with modern equipment. The pine soot from pine or vegetable oils is mixed with animal or fish glue. The glue insures that the ink can be molded. It is then dried to form a well-shaped solid block which. To use the ink, it must be ground into a stone - and water added to it (usually with a Water Dropper).

Nothing is more special for creating the many subtle shades of black and grey, that characterizes traditional Sumi painting.

Even if you're not a Sumi artist, you might not be able to resist - this makes a perfect embellishment for a special Asian assemblage or collage.

The Hacienda Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas was once a very trendy spot. It was built in the early 1950s and was quite popular until its implosion on New Year's Eve 1996. In fact, it is known as "the hotel that wouldn't die" as there was still a substantial portion of the building left the next day!

This wonderful little pinback are quite detailed with the image of the Hacienda's Matador astride a handsome steed and the the Hotel's name below. Each is presented in a little plastic case with a foam base. The pins arrive without the backing clutch. We think these are great additions to any souvenir collection of casino or Las Vegas memorabilia. But, it will also make a unique embellishment for your collage or assemblage artwork.

J.P. Patches was the host of one of the longest running local children’s shows in television history. The J.P. Patches Show aired on KIRO-TV in Seattle, Washington from 1958 all the way through 1981 and broadcast over 10,000 episodes in its 23 year run.

Just about every kid who grew up in the Northwest United States during that time tuned in as Julius Pierpont Patches, Mayor of the City Dump, entertained them with cartoons, sketches and special guests. But you don’t have to be an original Patches Pal to appreciate this legend of local television — the success of his endlessly entertaining show paved the way for many others, probably even the one you watched as a kid.

Although very little video tape of the show still exists, you can relive the magic with this 5-1/4 inch tall, hard vinyl J.P. Patches Action Figure. He arrives just for you with his very own Tikey Turkey (J.P.’s pet rubber chicken) and a miniature cream pie!

This is tremendous and we were so very delighted to find it! As youngsters, we awaited the Tournament of Roses Parade each New Year's Day as a wondrous event. And, how much more special it became with the advent of color TV.

This vintage souvenir, of course, hails from long before the advent of television. It measures 11-3/4 inches and is a fancy full color book printed in the chromolithograph technique. The booklet celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the Tournament of Roses Parade - its Golden Jubilee.

There are 32 color pages. The booklet features over 30 pictures of various floats from 1889 to 1939. You'll see the winning floats from 1927 through 1938.

Each of the pages is frameable. Each of the souvenirs we have are in tremendous shape, but you may find a page or two that sticks together a little. We have packaged them in plastic to protect them during shipping, but you might want to remove that plastic when you receive yours.

These were discovered in a shed in the Pasadena, California area many years ago. They come in their original envelopes which are really neat looking, but the envelopes are deteriorating, probably due to the adhesive.

Each of these lovely ties is really a friendship bracelet, made by one of so many artisans from Guatemala. Each is hand-made and different, but all are eye-catching and charming.

We like to use these as special ties on small packages, as bookmarks in books we give as gifts, and as bindings for special cards. Of course, they make lovely bracelets.

The woven braid is about 5 inches long. One end forms a loop for the two twisted cords from the other end to attach. The ends add length so this should fit most wrists up to 7 inches.

Because SilverCrow's Aztec Braids are all hand-made, each is different, so please let us choose one for you.

Although this is not the natural raffia made of straw, it is mad of rayon - so it is not synthetic at all! Because rayon is manufactured from cellulose fiber, it is truly one of the most renewable products around. The naturally occurring polymers in the plant cellulose make it not a synthetic, but it is not actually natural either as it must be manufactured to be used.

We think this an important, point, but, as philosophers, we agree that it could be argued that even natural wool yarn must be manufactured (spun) before it is used.

Now that all argument is aside, we must say that we love this stuff. It is great for wrapping presents. It adds a touch of elegance when used a s a bow on an organza bag. And we love it for making Ojos de Dios (God's Eye) ornaments.

You can use it as is (about 1/8 inch wide) or spread the width (to 7/8 inch). Either way, the lovely sky blue color will accent many projects nicely.

It is very dramatic form of professional wrestling involving rapid sequences of holds and moves - including throwing the opponent and other high-flying maneuvers. The wrestlers are as well known for their colorful and varied costumes and masks as they are for their macho attitudes.
