Vintage Marquise shaped Brown Glass Eye
More Parts for Dolls
More Vintage Items
More Assemblage & Collage Elements
These hand made glass eyes were made for plush animals and dolls as well as for taxidermy projects. They are vintage - we approximate their origins to be the 1920s or 1930s.
There are slight differences from eye to eye - in size, color and even slightly in shape, making them much more alluring for use in collage, assemblage and artwork than in traditional doll-making or taxidermy.
The back of the eye is similar to a cowrie shell, with the glass folding back upon itself. Each is a approximately 9/16 inch from side to side, 5/16 inch from top to bottom and has a 3/16 inch profile.
We are showing 3 eyes for illustration so that you might see the variation as well as the back of the eye.

Our little Mexican breakfast measures about 1-1/2 inch in diameter and is loaded with rice and some eggs and green chiles. Mmmm - this little platter looks good enough to eat for any doll or other miniature lover. These are also great for ofrendas and shrines.

Vintage Brown Hand Blown Glass Doll eye with Stem
Vintage porcelain dolls from Germany would always have hand-blown glass eyes like these - so beautiful that they almost look real! Ours all measure about 5/8 inch from stem to the front of the eye and the eyeball itself measures about 1/2 inch in diameter.
The eyes' iris coloring is exquisite - unmatched by the eyes produced today. These hail from the mid-20th century or earlier.
Of course these can be used for their original purpose - creating dolls, or, indeed, for repairing them. But, we also love odd things like these added to assemblages, memory boxes, nichos and ofrendas! What fun!
We are showing 2 eyes for illustration. Each package contains one eye only.

Rare Vintage Bisque White Picket Fence Component
More Vintage
These great little fence components might be just what you need for your next project. You can see the dimension from the two we photographed.
We think that these little pieces were created originally for setting up miniature scenes for railroads or Lilliput villages, but we are really not sure. Some of them have an original metal pick in the bottom - probably for positioning in your diorama or display. We prefer them without the picks and most stand on their own. But we've not changed any of them.
Each fence shows a true patina that only real time offers such pieces. Each component is about 1-1/2 inch wide by just under 1 inch high and not quite 1/4 inch from front to back.
These are lightweight, making them perfect for even altered art jewelry projects.
We expect that these are from the 1920s through 1940s, but we've not been able to find a date on any of them. Some are marked with their country of origin, Japan.
These have been dusted off, but the metal, if any, is rusty, so please be careful. We never clean any vintage or antique items completely so as to not ruin the value.
We've never seen anything like these before, so we are quite delighted to offer them to you. Please let us choose one for you.

Tiny Vintage Hand-Painted Bisque Piper with His Bagpipes
More Music
Our little pipers are playing all at once - and are frozen in time playing the bagpipes! How hard for them!
We think that these little fellows were created originally for setting up miniature scenes for railroads or Lilliput villages, but we are really not sure. Some of them have an original metal pick in the bottom - probably for positioning in your diorama or display. We prefer them without the picks and most stand on their own. But we've not changed any of them.

Tiny Vintage Hand-Painted Bisque Sitting Figurine
Each of these fellows is sitting on a log and we cannot really interpret their activities. It appears that some might be cowboys (their hats suggest such) and others might be musicians, perhaps even playing the bagpipes. It is difficult to see the detail in the log, but it is quite nice for something so tiny and old.
Each figurine was hand painted and the paint shows some wear. We're showing 2 samples so that you might see the differences. We love the true patina that only real time offers such pieces.
Each piper measures about 1-1/4 inch high by 1/2 inch wide and about 3/8 inch from front to back. When there are stems, they vary in length, most being a bit over 1 inch.
Vintage Adjustable Twist Ring
More Rings
More Collage & Assemblage Items
There are so many possibilities with these little pieces of metal, you'll want to buy lots. Originally meant to be novelty rings in the 1970s or 1980s, they might still be used as novelty jewelry. You might also use one as a ring base and glue or solder other neato stuff to them.
Each is adjustable, so, it will fit most fingers.
But you might really love to flatten them out and use them in your other altered art and collage projects or as other types of jewelry.
We are showing two rings - one from the side and one from the front. The top/front measures about 1/2 inch and it is easy to pull the two sides apart to adjust the size or to flatten the metal.

Mini Vintage Broken Frozen Bisque Frozen Charlotte Doll
Larger Frozen Charlottes
Each of these tremendous little dolls is more interesting than the next. We had a hard time working once these arrived. We had to examine each and every one of them. They are called Frozen Charlotte Dolls or Frozen Charlotta Dolls. They were made in Germany years ago.
They appear to have have been manufactured as far back as the early 1850s. Their history is quite intriguing, as is their allure. Some are bisque, but most are made of glazed porcelain. They were known in Germany as Bathing Children (Badekinder) or Naked Babies (Nackfrosh).
Charlottes were named after a young Victorian girl who went out dancing with her beau. Against Mother's advice, she left without her coat and froze in the snow. This is the story of an old folksong called Fair Charlotte often attributed to William Lorenzo Carter.
The dolls were made from the 1850s through the early 20th century and sold for about a penny each in the United States. Children would dress them and were able to collect a few because of the nice price. In fact they were often called penny dolls.
Ours have been dug up in Germany near the original factories. These tiny dolls are almost perfect, but have a bit of damage, but not much. We have not cleaned them, so you can enjoy discovering the unique beauty of your own doll. Just use a mild soap gently with water.
If whole, these lovelies might sell for $125 to $300 each. These tiny ones measure from just under 1-1/4 inch to just under 1-1/2 inch high and each shows different breaks
Several of the dolls are in our illustration, but we do have more than the pictured ones.

Hand Carved Wooden Branch Slide for Toggle Shawl or Book Closure
More Wood
We bought these some time ago from a yarn shop that was closing. She came upon the artisan who made these as she was searching for alpaca an llama woolen specialty yarns in South America.
Each slide features a Y at one end and a point at the other, allowing it to slide through your scarf or shawl easily and then stop to hold it in position. We think they'd make great book closures, too!
The best part about these is the smoothness - they are so smooth to the touch that they will not snag your knitting or other fibers.
Of course everyone of these is different. Some are lighter than others and some are larger, due to the natural materials and the handmade nature of the slides.
The shortest is 5 inches. The longest is not quite 7 inches. Please let us choose one for you.

Intricately Detailed Laser-cut Gravestone Replica: 1888
More Embellishments
We had these wonderfully elaborately detailed gravestone replicas created for us! Although they are great for Hallowe'en, we also love them for their deserted feel. The are made from photographs of authentic gravestones in an almost abandoned cemetery in Colorado.
This draped obelisk exhibits the year, probably of the death, but the name of the buried is not intelligible. We are quite taken by the layers of design in the original tombstone.
The faux dimension on the grave marker is astounding. Although the piece is flat, it appears as though it might be 3-dimensional - making this super for your artwork..
They are laser cut from 1/8 inch thick Baltic birch and then laser cut. The sides are natural wood color and the back has been painted black.
Each measures 3/4 inch at the widest by 2-5/8 inches high (by 1/8 inch thick).

Vintage Old-Timey Articulated Big Baby Doll with Sleepy Sparkle Eyes
More Art Dolls & Such
At first we couldn't remember if these were vintage or not. Well, we found the receipt - and guess what - they are! The are old stock plastic dolls which are from the mid-20th century and were made in Hong Kong.
These molded plastic dolls are fully articulated - their arms and legs move easily. Better still - they have sleepy eyes that close when they are lying down - really - but they just don't close all the way - so, be careful, this baby will be watching you! When seated or standing, the pretty baby blue eyes are wide open. Their hair is molded - typical of the 1950s and 1960s.
Each baby measures just about 4-1/2 inches high when lying or standing - and about 2-3/8 inch from fingertip to fingertip. The head is about 1-1/4 inch from front to back.
All of the accents are hand painted as some have darker hair than others. The eyes and lips are painted as well. The eyes are not painted. They are a plastic crystal that sparkles in the light.
This is not a toy. For decorative or artistic use only.

Handmade Miniature Plate of Enchiladas
When we discovered these little plates of food, we were in awe! How tremendously detailed they are. When we ordered them from the artist, we asked for them to be similar, so that we could feature them here at SilverCrow. And we received only a few of each meal.
This isn't just a miniature, each one is a work of art. The little tortillas are rolled so perfectly and we just love the whole thing - it looks good enough to eat, especially for little people and for tiny shrines and ofrendas.

Vintage Metal Stag Head Tobacco Tag
More Vintage Stuff
More Tobacco Tags & Other Metal Tags
More Smoking
More Animals of All Kinds
More Collage & Altered Art Supplies
Tobacco tags were made in all kinds of sizes and shapes. They were made of metal and were used to identify plugs of tobacco, especially tobacco for chewing.
These tags are quite rare as they are die cut into the shape of a stag's head. Many tags from this company are square, round or triangular with a printed image of the stag's head on them.
We are illustrating 2 tags so that you can see the variation in condition. We quite like their chippy look and feel - especially for altered art and jewelry! On either side of the head are points so that the tag could be pressed into the tobacco - on most of the tags, these are already bent backward, but on some they lay flat, ready for bending. Each tag measure 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch and is less than 1/16 inch in profile.
These tags were used around the early 1900s to mark plugs of tobacco - tobacco for chewing. Around that time, it was made by pressing cured tobacco leaves together in a molasses-based or other sweet syrup. This was a hand-on process. Customers would cut, or even bite off, a piece of the plug to chew.

Vintage Embroidered Size Medium (M) Fabric Tabs - Package of 25
More Industrial Tags
Ephemera
More Sewing, Fabric & Notions
More Collage, Assemblage, etc.
We've all seen these - sewn into medium sized clothing. These are vintage black rayon tabs - already folded in half and pressed into place. The M has been machine embroidered in white on one side of the tab only.
As you can see in the illustration, the inside of the fold shows the back of the embroidered M.
We thought these might be fun to use in altered art or assemblage. But, of course, they can still be used for their original intention - for sizing clothing!
When folded the tab measures 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch. When opened flat, it measures 1-1/2 inch by 1/2 inch.
Now, of course, you can turn it upside down and choose to use it as a W.

Vintage Sheepskin Vellum Indenture Fragment Circa 1750-1810
More Ephemera
More Papers & the Like
More Collage, Assemblage, Altered Art, etc.
Before computers and even before typewriters, most documents were hand-written. Letters, contracts and notes were all recorded by hand.
Contracts have been executed since the days of Charlemagne (742-814) - perhaps even before. Because of the importance of agreement by the two parties involved in a contract, it became quite important to record what the agreement actually was. An indenture is a legal contract between two parties. Such contracts were generally for indentured labor or servitude, apprenticeships and certain land transactions.
At first, such important documents were printed on sheepskin vellum, as paper making had not reached Europe until well into the middle ages. And, many Europeans did not accept paper as worthy, and did care for its impermanence. Many heads of state refused to honor anything written on paper. Finally, with the dawn of the printing press around in the 15th century, the use of paper became more widespread. However due to the importance of indentures, and the possibility that the contract might have spanned generations, indentures were executed on vellum through the 19th century, and, in some rare instances, beyond.
The process of writing an indenture was tedious. Two copies of exactly the same terms were written on the same sheet in permanent ink by dip pen. Then the two copies were separated by cutting along a jagged (as if chewed) line. Later, the two parts could easily be identified if the they fit back together along the separation - like puzzle pieces. The jagged, or toothed, edge is called an indenture. In some cases there were 3 pieces, one piece to be kept at the court.
These small pieces of legal indentures are from legal contracts made between 1750 and 1810. We have a collection of contracts, influenced by my Mom's background as a librarian. Several of the pieces in our collection arrived in very poor condition, so we felt comfortable creating collage pieces from them.
Each piece has bee cut carefully into about 2 inch square pieces. Some are a touch larger. All incorporate some of the writing originally on the indenture. No two of these are alike, so please let us choose a fragment for you.

Vintage New Old Stock Cabochon Pin Featuring a Sick Little Girl - Great for Altering
More Pins & Brooches
More Collage & Altered Art
More Get Well
We were lucky to find a lot of these cabochon pins as new old stock - never used - in a Brooklyn, New York warehouse. They are cleverly made and most are in fine shape. There is some wear from handling on some of the cabochons.
It appears that the cabs are made of metal and that the image has been transferred onto the cabochon either by printing or some other method.
Each of the pins are the same. A poor little sick girl on a pink background.
If you care to do so, you might re-work these into assemblage pieces by removing the cabochon and applying a new image, or, indeed by replacing it with something else. Please be careful if you choose to remove the cabochon - especially if you are bending the prongs.
These were made by a novelty company - not a jewelry company - so please be careful when working with them.
Each measures 1-3/4 inch high by 1-1/4 inch wide has a self-pin on back that has been attached mechanically rather than by adhesive. So, for novelties, these are well made.

Vintage Zinc (?) Numbered Tag - JAHCO
More Metal & Wooden Tags
These are really old and might not even be zinc. In fact, we've been arguing about their metal content for so long that we didn't list them as a viable item. But, finally, short of purchasing expensive metal testing equipment, we thought we'd list them anyway!
Each tag measures 1-1/4 inch in diameter with a large hole at the top. a few of the tags are not complete circles, but this makes them even more unique. The tags are all marked with different numbers, and read:
JAHCO
at the bottom. We were unable to find anything about a company or organization with that name, so you can make up your own history for the tags, if you like!
We're not sure of their origin, but we are sure that they are quite perfect for your steampunk application.
We're showing a group of the tags for variation. Please let us choose one for you.

Grab Bag of Vintage Lace and Trims - 10 Yards & More in a Lavender Embroidered Muslin Bag
More Fabric, etc.
More Ribbon, Lace & Ties
We've taken a large 5-3/4 by 9-3/4 inch muslin bag that is embroidered with a delicate image of gorgeous lavender and filled it to the brim with more than 10 yards of vintage lace and trims. Some of the pieces date back as early as the 1920s; some is from the 1980s and some from lots of times in between.
We've included new old stock, reclaimed pieces, handmade and machine made items. There is beaded fringe, regular fringe, maybe even suede or ultrasuede trim. There might be a doily or a cuff, or part of a tatted edging. Each bag is full of different items. Most pieces measure 6, 12 or 18 inches, some are larger and some are smaller. But it all adds up to 10 or more yards.
We've also included a bundle of vintage paper forget-me-nots in bright blues, pinks and white and a vintage sewing notion (maybe twill tape, bias tape, gimp, or...). The pieces are from around the world: France, Italy, USA, Japan and more.
This is perfect for your altered art, for doll clothes, for collecting and for fun. Why not capture a small piece of lace under a plastic or glass cabochon (or with resin) and make a romantic necklace. Or, add it to industrial items for that feminine steampunk look!

Random Vintage Plain Calling Card
More Collage
Calling cards were all the rage in 19th century society. Both ladies and gentlemen carried them to introduce themselves as well as to place after a visit. Ladies cards were large than those of the gentlemen, as the fellow slipped theirs from their breast pockets.
The printing was originally quite plain, as was the paper, although fine an elegant. It was generally either ivory, cream or white. Sometimes, fancier paper was used with a grid or patterned background. Other papers might have been textured.
The plain cards are usually thought to have come from the earlier 19th century, as the printing techniques were less sophisticated.
Each of these cards has been lovingly removed from a genuine Victorian scrapbook that had seen better days. So, you may find some adhesive residue and a bit of base paper from the book itself. The items have faded and some are faded or show some wear and even a bit of soil.
The soiling may be removed with a special cleaning eraser, but we like these just as they are - making them perfect for collage & other artwork.
Some have been die-cut; others feature gilded edges. The papers vary and include wove, smooth, bond, vellum, laid, linen and flat. Some are printed on patterned paper! Every single one we have to offer is different. So, please let us choose one randomly for you.

Not all memories fit nicely between page protectors. With the Biography 101, you can secure your photos, postcards, letters, etc. into the album. But, even better, you can use the shadow box for keeping that special dimensional memorabilia.
The design is so clever - it can stand open on a shelf, table or piano - so you can share your special memories in an elegant fashion. Or, if you prefer to secretly treasure those memories, the suitcase is quite attractive closed and stacked amongst your books.
The album itself arrives with 10 standard page protectors, and buckles snugly into the case. The 3-inch window on its front lets you highlight your favorite photo or allows you to title your work.
The sample illustration was created to preserve the first baby items of a little girl.
On the other side, the shadow box offers a hinged door with ribbon closure. The album and treasure shadow box are both acid-free and lignin-free. We are especially fond of the canvas covered carrying case that resembles a suitcase. Wonderful for any memory project or even for altered art, we think it a magnificent way to preserve your travel memories!

Vintage Color Filmstrip Frame
We have selected some wonderful examples of filmstrips and cut them into frames. The filmstrips were not in the greatest of condition, so we sorted through them and chose some really remarkable frames. Some are of groups of people; others are portraits; some are buildings; others are landscapes.
Each of the frames is in color - the colors of the 1940s through 1950s - a time during which film was manufactured differently than today.
Each frame features the notches on the side and measures 1-3/8 inch wide by 3/4 inch high. Each arrives in a glassine envelope to protect it from smudging.
We are illustrating several for variability. Also, we lightened the images just a touch so that you might better see our examples. We think these have tons of possibilities!

Random Vintage Insulator - Might be Valuable!
Such heavyweight insulators as these may date all the way back to the 1850s when they were produced for telegraph lines. Little by little as different technologies emerged, insulators were even more necessary - for telephone lines, electrical power lines and more.
There are thousands of collectors who have researched and indexed the individual insulators and their use. Some are quite valuable while others are just valued for their artistic appeal. In fact, we've seen ashtrays, votive holders and ornaments made from insulators buy just adding chain, charms and a bit of creativity.
Porcelain insulators were never good for communications, but worked well for power applications. Glass insulators worked for both. Some of the oldest ones are just gorgeous.
Our abundant grouping came to us via our good friend, Harry, whose father collected them throughout the eastern United States (and perhaps, beyond, Harry was not completely sure). Harry is now 90, so we can only guess at the age of the collection!
We have not sorted through these or researched them, so yours may well be a gem or a dud. It might be glass or porcelain, made in the USA, Canada or elsewhere. We have seen some sell on eBay for upwards of $300! Now, we have no idea how valuable any of these are. We're selling them as is. Yours may show a bit of wear, or, indeed, it may be pristine.

These are really too fragile for jewelry bases, but they're great for collage, assemblage and the like. You can double them up for extra strength, too!

Reproduction US Civil War Union Currency - Six Different Bills

More USA & American History
When the Civil War started, there were two types of money in circulation in the North: The largest part was "hard" money - silver and gold coins of the United States Government; the rest was paper money issued by prominent state banks. As the war progressed, more and more hard money disappeared as people began to hoard coins.
In 1862, the U. S. Government began issuing "Greenbacks" (as Federal currency became called) to supplement the states' paper money. Greenbacks were soon in widespread use, amounting to more than half of the currency in circulation. Fractional currency ("paper coin") also became prominently used.
The Federal government passed strict banking laws in 1863: these laws along with heavy taxes soon caused most of the paper money of the private banks to disappear. The laws did not become effective in the South until after the Civil War was over in 1865
The reproductions in this set include antiqued parchment reproductions of original banknotes - they even feel old! This set includes:
$1 Pennsylvania 1865, Bank of Montgomery County
$1 Illinois 1861, Bank of Quincy
$1.50 Washington, D.C., 1862, Farmers & Merchants Bank
$1 New York 1862, Merchants Bank
$2 Maine 1861, Sanford Bank
$1 Nebraska 1863, Bank of De Soto
This is a wonderful way to study history and to preserve the knowledge of one of the most horrible periods in American history.

Random Vintage Plastic Name Plate
These fun plastic names were once pins, but the pins have been removed. Most are 2 contrasting layers but some are 3 layers of plastic and feature names such as Rich, Nancy, Norma, Stanley and the like. We have no idea how these were used, but we have a bunch. We were told that these are from the 1960s and 1970s. Colors vary.
Because we have so few of each name, we're offering these randomly only. What a great way to start a project. Draw a name and create a story!
Each measures about 1-7/8 inches wide by about 9/16 inch high. The depth depends on the the number of plastic pieces stacked together.

Vintage Red Wood Pulp Squares - Package of 10 Pieces
More Articles Made of Wood
We found these squares in the recesses of an old fashioned craft and convenience store in Western Pennsylvania some time ago. These were used in a variety of applications, according to the store clerk who had worked behind the wooden counter almost the entire time the store was open. However, she could not remember what any of those applications were. So, maybe you can find your own uses.
A customer of ours told us that she used these years ago to make artificial flowers - especially roses by bending and molding them!
These 3-1/4 inch square pieces of wood-pulp fiber are not really paper, nor are they fabric. They have a spongy feel and are quite strong, but can be torn if manipulated too harshly. Every one of these is red, but some show signs of aging and fading. Others have a sandy feel to part of them. But, they are a lot of fun.
For one thing, the pulp is flexible. It feels a bit spongy and is malleable and can be stretched gently around spherical shapes. Some glues darken the pulp, so be careful and experiment before making a large commitment in using these. The color may come off on your hands, and it may not...so we think that has something to do with the weather. So, be careful when using these.
We promise that you'll be intrigued as much as we were!

Old Sardine Can Key
Now sardines are canned with pull tops like most cans. But, back in the early 20th century, keys like the ones in our illustration were quite the modern accomplishment! They allowed the consumer to open a can without a knife. This made the tins of sardines available as a portable snack - the beginnings of fast food!
Sardine canning was once a major US industry, but the last big cannery closed in 2010 after over 130 years in business! The famed Cannery Row in Monterey California was once thriving and was inspiration to several writings by the great John Steinbeck.
There was a little slip of metal along the side of the can. It was lifted gently and then inserted into the slot of the key. Then, the key turned slowly, unwinding the metal from the tin, creating a container and a lid! What a innovation. The key was attached to the bottom or top of the can for easy access.
Because most of these were discarded - as most fast food accoutrements were and are - there are few left behind. But, the clever consumer kept a few around - just in case. We've found these useful for prying (the tip is often like a screwdriver tip and the top loop is enabling in many mechanical ways). Maybe you'll find one useful, or indeed, maybe you'll incorporate one into your artwork.
The ones we have show patina, but we promise none of them smells like the remains of the tin contents! We've not cleaned the rust from them as we think it adds to the beauty of such an old industrial marvel!
These measure from 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 inches with a few a little smaller or larger.
Several keys pictured for variation.

We don't suggest that you create a new transistor radio with these little transistors, but we see all kinds of possibilities with them. These are vintage and measure about 3/4 to 1 inch long (including the legs) and 3/8 inch wide. We thought they'd be cute for making little dolls with robot heads, some steampunk jewelry or some other unique project.
Two transistors are shown to illustrate front and back. Numbers may differ on each transistor.

Also Available in Tortoise Shell Lucite
These hooks are the greatest find. They are vintage and made of Lucite. Each hook measures 1-3/8 inch by 5/8 inch. you can hook them together in many ways, or use them separately. They're great for plastic and Lucite necklaces or even larger metal chain.
They make great clasps for other loops and hooks, too. The variegated colors in these hooks is quite interesting. they run from pink to black - but they are predominantly pink. We're not sure what the plan was when making this color, but it came out pretty cool indeed.
Two pairs of hooks are shown to illustrate their versatility.

Vintage Railroad Spike - Own a Piece of History
More Desk Accessories
Our railroad spikes hail from all over, but most are from western Pennsylvania. These are spikes that were on the ground (or in it) - and no longer being used by the railroads. Some are straight; some bent, some painted gold or black - all are very old - early to mid 1900s - some even earlier. Each one weighs from 1/2 pound to almost a pound.
We have cleaned them, but we have not removed all of the rust on the unpainted ones. You might want to varnish yours if you decide to use it as a paperweight, but we've been using them to hold open doors, as paperweights and in artwork for years with no problems. They are made of iron or steel. They measure from 6 to 8 inches long and each has a solid natural head on it.
We have many of these and no two are alike. Please let us know your preference: painted, rusty, bent, etc., and we'll try to honor it. If you absolutely want a certain type, be sure to tell us, otherwise we'll choose one for you if we don't have exactly the one you describe.

Vintage Roller Watch parts in Corked vial
More Watch Parts for Collage
Watch Faces
Bergeon is an old Swiss company that makes microtools for watch making and watch repair, amongst other things. We are delighted to offer these really neat tubes that originally held flat an hollowed-out rollers for watches. Some of the vials still contain some of the parts.
Mostly every one of these tubes contain at least one Swiss-made roller for watches - the roller is a teeny tiny part. The tubes are some type of hard plastic. We at first thought them to be glass, but we're not sure - and we didn't want to ruin one by breaking it.
The vial measures 1 inch (without the cork). Each vial is closed with the cork. The outside diameter of the vial is 1/4 inch. Each one reads in white letters:
BERGEON
And, under the name is a number that corresponds to the size of the rollers inside. We have no idea if the items inside are the originals in each vial, but we're guessing so as we bought these from a watchmaker's estate. Generally such talented artisans would be neat about maintaining their supplies and tools.
Each vial is numbered differently, so please let us choose one for you.

Large Terra Cotta Wheel
We're not quite sure what we should write about this unique hand-formed clay piece. Made of natural terra cotta, each wheel is completely different from the next and can be used in lots of different ways: pencil holder, display stand or to hold a small bouquet of dried flowers.
You might also choose to incorporated it into a special jewelry piece. However, these are weighty - from 2 to 4 ounces each. They are raw terra cotta and before you use them, you might want to finish them with varnish or another protectant.
Each one measures approximately 2-1/2 to 3 inches in diameter and about 3/4 thick. The center hole is about 3/8 inch.
Four of these would make great wheels for a Fred Flintstone vehicle.

Vintage Metallic Passementerie - Double Evil Eye
More Good Luck

These gorgeous vintage appliqués were originally sewn to saris for extra embellishment and good fortune. The image is a double evil eye, created from sequins, silver and gold bullion and glass beads.
Each of these has been hand sewn to a backing for stability. These may be sewn or glued to your project. Or, you might choose to take one apart for the vintage components. These are quite old and are in good to very good condition. The workmanship is stunning considering that these have lasted for decades - and have been removed from their original place to be re-used.
WE love the patina on the bullion that only comes with age - this cannot be imitated. Each piece measures approximately 2-1/8 inches wide by 1 inch high.

Tiny Vintage Transparency Overlay
More Firefighting
Transparencies like these little ones were all hand colored or colored clear plastic was glued in place atop a full-sized slide.
Most of these have been hand colored or painted. Each one of these little pieces is different and they measure somewhere between 1-1/4 inch square to 2 by 2-3/4 inches to 1-1/4 inch by 4-1/4 inches. They are quite thick by today's standards for transparencies. It is probably made from Bakelite or Catalin, vintage plastic that smells slightly of phenol.
These have been aired out since we first discovered them sealed tightly in a presentation case. These hail from around 1957 and were part of a presentation of Fire Safety offered by the United States Air Force.
No two of these little pieces are alike. They are overlays, so some are flames, others are electrical drawings and still others are arrows and engineering-like pieces. We will randomly select one from the group for you.

Vintage box of Teardrop Glass Lenses in Light Smoke Grey
Vintage Round Amber Lenses
Oh! The possibilities for these great lenses. Each box of 3 dozen lenses is from the late 1940s or early 1950s. They were made in Japan originally for use as the lenses for sunglasses. But, they are perfect for use in jewelry and assemblage.
Because they are glass, they are fragile, but they are not delicate - we've not broken any yet. The convex shape is great for covering a secret in an assemblage or collage. These are quite dark as lenses go - but, they are still transparent. After all, they are sunglass lenses.
These dark smoke lenses are 53mm at their widest and 63mm long and they arrive in their original packaging. We have not opened all of the boxes in order to preserver their vintage value, we are not sure if they are complete and unbroken. But, in the sample boxes we opened - all were present, individually wrapped and intact.
At less than 18¢ each, you'll be able to complete several projects with these great glass pieces. They also make great collectibles for anyone in the optical professions!

Vintage Navy Blue Fabric Mask
More Masks
We love the fabric masks from the 1950s. They were made with cotton or linen fabric and stiffener and molded over mask models for their shape. Masks made today are usually plastic - and even the fabric ones feature plastic bases. Not so with these!
This elegant navy blue mask is just what you need for your USA-patriotic costume.
The mask arrived without elastics, which is just as well considering the elastic was made of rubber and would probably have deteriorated right onto the masks. So we're including a 10-inch barbed black elastic for you to add yourself - if you chose to wear the mask or place it on an art doll or mannequin. The barbs are made of metal and slide easily through the pre-punched holes in the masks. The elastic is wrapped in fabric thread for comfort, making it easier on the wearer's hair!
These are vintage masks, so you might want to test them to be sure that you have no allergy to the adhesive.
Two masks are shown to illustrate front and back.

Blank Artistamps Sheet - Size Medium (12 stamps)
More Artistamps
The joy of collecting postage stamps is one shared by so many people around the world. I was first interested in these so many years ago when my Dad was the Postmaster in our small town. We would get every new stamp as it arrived. So, when we first discovered artistamps, we were even more excited!
These sheets of blank artistamps are really stamp blanks. You can make your own by painting, rubber stamping, doodling or what have you. These are professionally perforated on a vintage perforator and they are made of gummed paper - the kind you lick to stick. We suggest, of course, that you use a water applicator to dampen them, or, of course you can lick them.
Each sheet features 12 blank stamps as well as a perforated border - it looks great when you create your image and use 2 or more stamps and the border - very artsy!
Each stamp measures 1-5/8 by 1-3/8 inch. One edge has a really cool color registration stripe.

We just love capsules like these. So long ago, my Mom put tiny numbers inside individual capsules for a raffle. So, that's what comes to mind immediately when I see these! But, we're sure you'll find so many other uses for them, too.

The cap is easily replaced by sliding it back on. you might use a dab of glue to keep it shut. They will not fall apart easily, but the glue might keep the treasures inside a bit safer. What fun to add to a special package for a distant friend or loved one to treasure.
These are perfect for altered books, nichos and niches, too.

Vintage Post Office Box Door
We were so excited when we found these! SilverCrow's vintage Post Office Box Doors are the real deal! Coming from the United States Post Office, these elegant older doors have been replaced by the sleek new steel doors.
Although the newer doors may be safer and more discreet as they have no window, we love the charm and elegance of these vintage brass and glass doors. These doors are reminiscent of the days when letter writing and penmanship were not only necessary, but welcomed arts.
Each door is different (two are shown - back and front), but are similar to the ones shown. All are in great condition with working lock mechanisms (instructions are included). In fact, you can even change the 3-character combination!
Consider adding a door to a cigar box or altered book for a very special niche. Or, make a coin bank and use the door as the entry to your riches.

But, we just love it for weddings, Valentines and Quinceañeras.

Mini Pepsi Bottle
My Mom would only drink Coca-Cola. Now, my Grandmother (Mummer) and I would only drink Pepsi. Mummer was enchanted by the fact - way back when - that Joan Crawford - yes, a woman - was a director of such a major company. Mummer was dedicated to Pepsi after that. And so was I, but I think it was for the taste - or, maybe to please my Grandmother and irritate my Mom. That was over 40 years ago, so it doesn't really matter.
Of course, any memory box we might make would definitely feature this mini Pepsi bottle. Measuring a scant 1-1/8 inch high, this mini Pepsi bottle is made of plastic with a little paper label.

Hand Forged Nail from the Moroccan Bazaar
More Clips & Such
More Collage & Assemblage Elements
Each of these nails is completely different from the next because they are hand forged - by blacksmiths in the Moroccan bazaar. Some are as long as 8 cm (over 3 inches) and some are as short as 5 cm (about 2 inches).
They make great components for collage and assemblage artwork and jewelry. But, please also consider them for their original intent - as nails.
In earlier times, nails were so valuable that when a building burned down, people would scramble to retrieve the nails. There were no machines making nails - each one was made by hand like these.

Spiral Seed Bead Ring
These neat little spirals can actually be worn as rings! They're great as art embellishments, too. They arrive coiled tightly, but you can certainly stretch one apart and use it to bind a mini journal. Some are iridescent; others are multicolor and still others are solid!
These are hand-made, so each is unique, and color mixtures vary. We're showing several to illustrate the variation. Please let us choose one for you.

Quadruple Microscope Slide Mailer (aka, Mini Shrine Base) - Package of 5
More Mailers, Envelopes & Such
What a great find! Of course, lots of artists have been using these for some time, but we still love them! The original purpose for these is to hold four 1 by 3 inch glass or plastic microscope slides securely for mailing. Created from chipboard, the mailer opens like a book and inside are four recessed wells to hold the slides.
The rounded indentation at the top of each well is a finger notch to make it simpler to place and remove each slide. Of course, you can do just about anything you want with these - stamp them, paint them, collage or découpage them. Create a little shrine or use it as a special frame (with microscope glass to cover the indentation.
The chipboard is a bit over 1/2 inch thick, so it is nice and sturdy. When closed, the mailer measures 4-1/4 inch by 5-7/8 inches. And, you can actually mail a little shrine to a friend (after securing it so it doesn't open) because each double mailer conforms to US Postal Regulations regarding minimum size for First Class Mail!

Transparent Compass that opens!
These cool transparent compasses are ungraduated (they have no markings). That means you can add your own. Consider labeling these in all different ways - perhaps with ME, YOU, THEM, NOBODY, instead of North, South, East and West. Or, what ever you can imagine.
These are 3/4 inch in diameter and open up so that you can add your own directions. Be careful so that you don't loose the little needle or pointer when you take them apart. We found it best to use tweezers to reposition the pointer after opening. How much fun can you have with these? Make up your own game, specialty jewelry and more. Each compass is flat-backed for easy gluing.
These are magnetic compasses - so they really work, but you'll not know what direction they indicate unless you use another compass to determine it. Please don't use this for real positioning unless you really know what you're doing.

Vintage Ivy Wax Motif
Vintage motifs like these were used to decorate candles, papier mâché eggs and ornaments and even crèches and the like. These are still on the original aged waxed paper and are in superb shape. There may be a small amount of breakage, but because they are wax, they are easily positioned back in place.
We can envision all types of uses for these, but most of all, we love them because they are so old, hailing from pre-World War II Germany. Each motif measures approximately 9-1/4 by 3-1/2 inches and may be trimmed for use.
Please be careful with these as they are extremely delicate, but still very usable!

Doll Heads
These great doll arms are perfect for that altered art project or assemblage. But, we're not quite sure why we don't have the same number of left and right arms, so we're offering these as random - who knows which one you'll get. If you order two, we'll try our best to send you one of each, but, we can't promise, as we might run out of one or the other first.
The arms are all from the same style vintage doll. Each arm measures 5 inches long and about 1 inch in diameter where it would have connected with the shoulder of the bodice.
We bought these dolls as body parts, so there are a few heads available, too.
Several arms, right and left are shown for illustration.
Ready to Slice & Bake Fimo Stick/Roll - USA Flag
More DIY & Kits
More USA
How much fun are these!? We've tried to learn to roll Fimo & other polymer clay into sticks or rolls and we always end up with marbleized clay - a fancy way to say we couldn't come up with a picture. With these, we don't have to worry. The picture has already been rolled into the sticks. So, all you do slice and bake. Don't worry, the instructions are included.
This amazingly detailed roll of polymer clay features the American flag. We've not really counted all the stars, but it looks close enough for a charm or bead!
You can slice them to any depth - and can even make the diameter smaller or larger (instructions for this technique included, too). To make a bead or charm, just make a hole before you bake.
Rolls measure 50mm long by 15mm in diameter (about 5/8 inch). So you can make a bunch of beads, components or charms from just one roll!
Instructions are included.

Not only for playing guitars and other stringed instruments, the great little package of five assorted guitar picks can be used to make jewelry, used in artwork, as bases for miniature sculptures and more.
The picks are mostly standard sized and shape, with a few others mixed in here and there. Each assortment is different, so the illustration is only representative of the package you will receive. These are real guitar picks, not just pieces of plastic in the standard shape, so, if you don't use them in your art or jewelry making, you might take up the guitar.

Vintage Motif in Shiny Goldtone Metal: Cigarettes
More Assemblage Stuff
We are not really sure what metal was used to create these snazzy Cigarettes flat-backed motifs. We do know that they are pretty cool!
Each one of these measures 1-5/8 inch long by 3/4 inch from the top of the C to the bottom of the g. Each is about 1/8 inch thick. The back of the motif (shown in the bottom illustration) features some grooves to hold the adhesive.
We suspect these were used on cigarette cases from the 1950s or 1960s, when smoking was all the rage for les modernes.
Two motifs shown for illustration only.

Limited Edition Chalkboard Necklace
When we started selling our little Chalkboard Necklace, we wondered just what kind of chalk we should offer to accompany it - so that the wearer might change the message on a whim. Well, here we have it!
These slim little chalks arrive in packages of 5 pieces - 3 white and two random colors. The chalks measure about 1-11/16 inches long and are just barely 1/8 inch in diameter - perfect for including with small projects - and especially neat because they are doll-size!
Chalks vary ever so slightly in length due to the fragile nature of the chalk. We package them securely (see the illustration), but they are indeed fragile, and might not make it through the mail perfectly.
You can use the chalk as is or, if you prefer a point, just use a regular hand-held kid's pencil sharpener carefully.
Several sets are shown for illustration only.

Vintage Blank Transparency
Each of these transparencies were originally used by the US Air Force in presenting safety procedures and hazardous materials training to firefighters (then, firemen) in the 1950s. Each of these was blank - ready to use for additional information during the presentation.
Each transparency measures 10-3/8 inches long by 8-1/4 inches and has rounded corners. There is black border around each one. At the tip of one is clear arrow - apparently to help the speaker point this in the proper direction. On one side of the transparency, the black border is matte, on the other side is shiny.
We think this would be great for a collage or altered art project. We'd venture to guess that there aren't too many of these around.

Handmade Copper Ring
Use one to encircle a secret missive on parchment, or for a doll napkin holder, or even for a ring. This natural copper ring measures about 15/16 in diameter and is about 1/16 thick. We are not quite sure of their original intention, but we're quite sure they're useful. Each is rough hewn and some are not accurate circles. They have not been finished or coated and have begun acquiring their own rich patina - as only copper can. The closure and other work is rough, but the ring itself is quite smooth.
Three rings shown for illustration.

Vintage Aluminum Slide Holder or Frame
Vintage Ektachrome & Other Slides
Slide shows were once an evening's entertainment after a vacation trip to the shore or anywhere else. Now we have digital slide shows and the old slides have gone the way of many other previous technologies - into a shoebox, into the trash, or upcycled into art.
Such an opportunity arises with these, the aluminum slide holders that helped the pretty slides sit in the slide trays and move out into the slide viewer. They were used for 35mm slides and measure 2 by 2 inches. Although aluminum doesn't rust on its own, we're sure that you could add any patina to one of these frames and make it even more special.
Slides not included with the frames. We're showing two frames for illustration only.

Moon Slice Stamping
There are so many possibilities with these wonderful metal stampings. The entire piece measures about 2-1/8 by 2-1/2 inches - the gentle sun-face image measures just about 1 inch in diameter.
The stamping can be trimmed with scissors (if you don't care about the scissors too much), but metal cutters might be a better choice. Or, use the entire piece. They are also fantastic for your collages and assemblages - to glue on or inlay. We think these to be made of tin, but they just might be aluminum.

These paper buttons were quite the rage 10 years ago when we started in business. You don't see them much anymore, but we still love them for a special embellishment. You can actually sew these on your work or glue them if you prefer. Use them for closures for your hand made journals or altered books or more! Ours have been dug up in Germany near the original factories. All of our are missing an arm or a leg or feet, etc. We think the damage endears them even more. We have not cleaned them, so you can enjoy discovering the unique beauty of your own doll. Just use a mild soap gently with water.
If whole, these lovelies might sell for $125 to $300 each. They measure from just under 2 inches to just over 3 inches high. If you have a specific request, we'll try to honor it. However, these are vintage and we only have a limited grouping.

Teensy (10mm) Spun Cotton Green-Topped Amanita Mushrooms
More Mushrooms & Other Ornaments
Old-fashioned spun cotton mushrooms have graced Christmas trees, corsages and other items for decades. These lovely amanita mushrooms are created of spun cotton and made by the same family business that made the vintage red and brown mushrooms we offer. The company has really gone out of business, but agreed to make some of these green mushrooms especially for the American trade.
These new stock mushrooms measure about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the stem to the top of the cap and could very easily pass for the vintage ones as the technique is exactly the same..
The green caps are hand stained to look real. They are are highly lacquered and are dotted with little white spots - just like the real mushrooms! The stems are wire wrapped in green paper.
These pretty mushrooms might really be toadstools, not to be eaten in the wild - and, our spun cotton version should not be eaten either! It is rumored that Santa's reindeer pranced around in a flying frenzy after eating these little beauties, allowing them to help Santa travel throughout the world and deliver presents.
Amanita mushrooms are considered good luck in many cultures, especially in Germany. You'll often see them pictured with gnomes, elves and fairies in children's literature.

Vintage Vial from Sweden - for Watch Parts
Watch parts have long been a staple in collage and assemblage, and especially prevalent in steampunk jewelry! Little glass vials are also popular - and vintage items are even more precious as each day there are fewer and fewer old things available.
