Certainly scary, undoubtedly someone's nemesis, our Bęte Noire wooden motif is quite alluring and daunting at the same time. Just imagine the mischief you might make with this.
Each is laser cut from 1/8 inch thick Baltic birch and then laser cut. The sides are natural wood color and the back has been painted black. To use as jewelry, you may want to add a sealer.

Silver Hoop Component
We have no idea where we got these. We were going to make something from them (we can't remember what), so we thought maybe you could find something interesting to do with them!
These are very fine hoops (the metal is 1mm at most!) They measure 1-1/2 inch when you include the lip at the top and they are 1-1/4 inch in diameter. At regular intervals, there are indentations, so you might easily make a miniature dream catcher from one of them as the string or wire would hold nicely as you weave your web for dreams.

These images are culled from photographs of vintage door knockers from older buildings, these lion's heads feature an open ring at the bottom that can be made to hold just about anything!.
Each is laser cut from 1/8 inch thick plywood and then laser cut. The sides are natural wood color and the back has been painted black. To use as jewelry, you may want to add a sealer.
Each measures 1-11/16 inches high by 1-3/16 inch wide (by 1/8 inch thick).

These are new motifs made in the fashion of vintage tin toys. They are painted on both sides, but only one side shows the detail. As you can see from the photograph, the pig and rider may be facing either way.
The motif measures about 2-1/4 inches wide by 2 inches high.
These would be fantastic as a part of a mixed media or altered art project.

The little derringer will also double as a cap pistol, firing one cap at a time.

These hand made glass eyes were made for plush animals and dolls as well as for taxidermy projects. They are vintage - we approximate their origins to be the 1920s or 1930s.
There are slight differences from eye to eye - in size, color and even slightly in shape, making them much more alluring for use in collage, assemblage and artwork than in traditional doll-making or taxidermy.
The back of the eye is similar to a cowrie shell, with the glass folding back upon itself. Each is a approximately 9/16 inch from side to side, 5/16 inch from top to bottom and has a 3/16 inch profile.
We are showing 3 eyes for illustration so that you might see the variation as well as the back of the eye.

What a tasty treat - a little graham cracker to go with a little coffee or milk! These little resin pieces are flat backed and are ready to use for just about anything. There are no drilled holes, so you might add a glued bale or drill a little hole yourself.

We have always been celluloid and plastic fans here at SilverCrow. There are ever so many possibilities. Especially fun are the flat-backed cabochons like this wonderful starburst! The ivory color is wonderful for winter wonderland or even religious scenes. It measures about 27mm wide and high, so you might even consider it for assemblage jewelry.

Aged Bronze Tree Focal Component with Tiny Birds
This aged bronze component at first resembles a tree. At closer inspection you'll find the teeny tiny birds that are hiding amongst the leaves! This set of 5 shoe buttons will vary in color and size. The largest ones (for men's shoes) are about 1/2 inch in diameter and the smallest ones (for children's shoes) are between 3/16 to 1/4 inch in diameter. Some are a bit smaller or larger and there are all sizes in between. All of them feature rear shanks, making them perfect for use as regular buttons or jewelry components.

It never hurts to add a bow to anything. And this vintage plastic bow is no different - in fact, it is better. You can add it to just about anything. Because it is clear, a bit of the color of the underlying object will show through.

Measuring in at only 1/4 inch square this little raw copper bezel setting might be just what you need for your next project. The depth is barely 1/16 inch, with a slight frame (about 1/32 inch).
There is no hanging loop, so this is perfect for attaching to the front of a locket or other necklace or charm base. Or, add a loop of your own to make it into a charm. Because it is raw copper, you should be able to easily patina it as well.

This modern oval rose cabochon caught my eye immediately! I love orange and tangerine! But the style is quite stunning. Just glue it to a ring or a bezel for a pendant. It measures almost 1 inch by almost 3/4 inch (25mm x 18mm - a standard size). The profile is about 1/4. It is flat backed for easy gluing.
If I can remember where I found these, we'll get more, but right now they are quite limited.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) in 1943. It is beloved even more today than when it was written. Ostensibly a children's book, there are so many instances in the writings that might be meant for adults to learn - perhaps to be young again.

Vintage New Old Stock Cabochon Pin Featuring a Sick Little Girl - Great for Altering

We were lucky to find a lot of these cabochon pins as new old stock - never used - in a Brooklyn, New York warehouse. They are cleverly made and most are in fine shape. There is some wear from handling on some of the cabochons.
It appears that the cabs are made of metal and that the image has been transferred onto the cabochon either by printing or some other method.
Each of the pins are the same. A poor little sick girl on a pink background.
If you care to do so, you might re-work these into assemblage pieces by removing the cabochon and applying a new image, or, indeed by replacing it with something else. Please be careful if you choose to remove the cabochon - especially if you are bending the prongs.
These were made by a novelty company - not a jewelry company - so please be careful when working with them.
Each measures 1-3/4 inch high by 1-1/4 inch wide has a self-pin on back that has been attached mechanically rather than by adhesive. So, for novelties, these are well made.

Little Glass Cane Millefiori Face Components

The millefiori technique was originally based on the French background coverage of thousands of tiny flowers called mille fleur. Mostly associated with Venetian glass making, this style of glassmaking involves layers of glass made into a cane and then sliced into individual pieces. The pieces would all be very similar as each piece The usual outcome is a lovely many-petaled flower. Then, these little slices are place in masse to decorate a larger piece, such as a vase, or an angel or a candlestick.
But, these little guys surely caught our eye. We're not sure where they were produced - or even when! But we are sure that they are funny and sweet. As you can see from the illustrated sample, they vary in size - from 3/16 to 3/8 inch in diameter. Very few are the same.

The Indian pice was the smallest unit of currency in India during British rule (1858-1947). There were 192 pices in a rupee. These coins were not used after 1947. Most of the ones that we have are bronze and are from the early 20th century (from about 1912 through 1930) - although some are earlier and some later. They all appear to be bronze and feature a nicely aged patina and a large center hole. The hole is really part of the coin and not drilled afterwards as with some coins used for jewelry.
Each measures about 7/8 inch in diameter and the center hole is about 7/16 in diameter.

When we first found these, we thought they had once been buttons. Now, maybe you could make buttons from them. However, these lovely pieces have an origin sticker on the back and no semblance of any button finding.
Each of these round pieces is flat backed and hand painted with stripes resembling bamboo plants and a lovely exotic redbird. They are 1-1/4 inch in diameter and each is similar to the next, but there is some variation due to the hand painting. The domed top is lacquered for wear, but the back has been left in its natural state.

These hooks are the greatest find. They are vintage and made of Lucite. Each hook measures 1-3/8 inch by 5/8 inch. you can hook them together in many ways, or use them separately. They're great for plastic and Lucite necklaces or even larger metal chain.
They make great clasps for other loops and hooks, too. The variegated colors in these hooks is quite interesting. they run from pink to black - but they are predominantly pink. We're not sure what the plan was when making this color, but it came out pretty cool indeed.

We've tried to learn to roll Fimo & other polymer clay into sticks or rolls and we always end up with marbleized clay - a fancy way to say we couldn't come up with a picture. With these, we don't have to worry. The picture has already been rolled into the sticks. So, all you do slice and bake. Don't worry, the instructions are included.
This lovely piece is surrounded by a rainbow of stripes and inside is a blue Star of David with a darker center.
You can slice them to any depth - and can even make the diameter smaller or larger (instructions for this technique included, too). To make a bead or charm, just make a hole before you bake.

Gorgeous Vintage Aquamarine Glass Intaglio Cabochon of the Taj Mahal
This lovely transparent aquamarine glass intaglio cabochon features an image of the Taj Mahal that has then been highlighted with a silver foil application. The piece measures 11/16 inches on all sides and features faceted rounded corners. The depth of the piece is just a smidgen over 1/4 inch. The image is lovely on either side, but glorious on the aqua side, which would normally be considered the top, which is smooth. The underside has been cut to create the intaglio and then foiled with silver for the reflective effect.
The Taj Mahal is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the world by all cultures. Built as a memorial and mausoleum for the third (and favorite) wife of Shah Jahan in Agra, India, the building took over 16 years to complete. Mumtaz died during the birth of their 14th child, Gauhara Begam. The grounds and out buildings took another 5 years to complete.

Long associated with deep and everlasting love, the Taj Mahal has become endeared to many around the world.
Intaglios are engraved, pressed or incised into gemstones or glass. The design is carved or pressed into the surface, and sinks below the surface. It is the opposite of a cameo - where the background is carved away, leaving the design as a relief on top. Intaglios have been made since Babylonian times and were used in printmaking as well as in jewelry.

We are not really sure what metal was used to create these snazzy Cigarettes flat-backed motifs. We do know that they are pretty cool!
Each one of these measures 1-5/8 inch long by 3/4 inch from the top of the C to the bottom of the g. Each is about 1/8 inch thick. The back of the motif (shown in the bottom illustration) features some grooves to hold the adhesive.
We suspect these were used on cigarette cases from the 1950s or 1960s, when smoking was all the rage for les modernes.

Vintage Jade-Colored Celluloid Rectangle Component with Cut-Outs
Such pretty variegated jade celluloid components are hard to find. The rectangular shape allows for many uses, especially because the component is flat backed, making it easy to glue. The motif is floral and features cutouts so that the background can show through. The cutouts also make it easy to transform this component into a charm if you wish. Each one measures about 1/2 inch by 3/4 inch.

When at first we saw this lovely cabochon we were taken by its rich elegance. Created from ivory or eggshell colored glass, the image is highlighted with golden accents. We though she might be Greek, so we considered her a Goddess. But, alas, she may be a maiden on a stroll through the meadow (with flowers at her feet).

My favorite Easter coat was blue, cream and pale yellow plaid. I remember feeling so pretty in it - I wish I had one just like it today so very many years later.
Inside that coat was a chain just like this. The flat round loops were sewn by hand into the back of the coat on (or near the label) so that I could hang the coat on the chain when an appropriate coat hanger was not available. Fur coats were often fitted with these as well.
We were really excited to find that these are still made - and in the USA, no less!
Each chain measures 4 inches (including the flat loops) long. The chain itself is 1/4 inch wide. It is quite sturdy, of course, so that can hold a coat nicely.
Of course, you might imagine all kinds of other uses for this nifty little chain. That's why they come in packages of five.

This stunning piece is made of brass and then plated in a rosy copper finish that mimics rose gold (our favorite)! Silvery Titanium Mesh Tubing
This really cool component appears to be a ribbon of metal mesh at first glimpse. The fun arrives after you start playing with it. It is really a metal wire-knit tube. Be careful, because it is fragile, but it will hold up well overtime as long as you handle with care.
You can create a necklace by adding crimps on the ends or choker clamps, or use your imagination for finishing.
You can pull and shape this mesh endlessly. It begins with a 6mm flattened diameter. You can open it up and put beads inside and it will stretch as any knit tube would. Of course, as you stretch it wider, the length becomes shorter. You can knot it between beads or even put some of the beads on the outside. What fun you'll have!
If you change your mind, it is easily reshaped by flattening it out again and pulling on either end.
Mesh can be pulled and shaped into interesting forms. Reshaping is accomplished by rolling and pulling the entire strand tight, however, you may affect the overall length of your mesh by pulling on it.

Vintage Raw Brass Stamping - Butterfly
Created from raw brass, these vintage butterfly stampings are quite lovely. Their patina from natural aging is hard to match with pseudo-aging agents. So, we think these are quite usable as is. Of course, you can alter them in any manner you please.

What fun you'll have with these teeny DIY masonite shrine kits. Your two shrines arrive flat. All you need is a tiny bit of glue to make 2 little head or profile shrines. Just flip the pieces over to make the shrine face in the other direction.
Each finished piece (after it is glued), measures 13/16 (just over 3/4) inch high by 3/4 inch wide. The little niche is almost 1/2 inch high by 3/8 inch wide and about 3/32 inch deep - teensy for sure!

Vintage Blue Plastic Flower on a Wire Stem
Wire-stemmed cabochons are great for making jewelry, but they are even better for making hair accessories. The wire makes it easy to attach these pretty flowers to hairpins, bobbies, barrettes and bobby pins. We expect that these were made back around the mid-20th century. They were created by artisans in the Bohemian mountains. Each flower is a bit different as these were molded, but hand painted. They measure about 5/8 in diameter.

Random Smashed or Elongated Penny - Great for Key Chains & Jewelry

Coins like these have many names, but our favorite is smashed pennies, aka elongated pennies and pressed pennies. The first elongated penny was created for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus during 1892-1893. There are some who believe that there were such coins produced earlier, but the experts have singled this celebration as the beginning.
A smashed penny is is made by forcing a penny (or other coin) through two steel rollers. There is an engraving on one of the rollers (sometimes both sides). A crank (mechanical or electronic) forces the coin through the rollers and squeezes it with extreme pressure. This smashes the coin from round to ...you guessed it...elongated. The pressure pushes the engraving into the penny at the same time it is smashing it.
We've been collecting these since we were children, and now our grandchildren collect them, too. Made from shiny pre-1983 pennies, there is a higher copper content than if created with today's pennies.
We have a whole burlap bag full of these. They are from all over the world, but, most are from the USA. Some have thoughts and words, others are souvenirs from amusement parks long gone. Still others are from special events. Many of these are vintage and are no longer available.
Because they are smashed in the process of impressing the message, these souvenir pennies are super thin, yet sturdy. The new oval shape measures about 1-5/16 long and about 13/16 wide. This makes a wonderful keepsake for your wallet or pocket.

Vintage Hard Plastic Cherries Cabochon
Aren't these just the sweetest cherries - too bad they can't be eaten. Our little plastic components are flat-backed. They have been hand painted in a washed style which highlights the the detail of the leaves, stem and the cherries themselves.
Each one measures 11/16 inch from the bottom cherry to the top of the stem and 3/4 inch at the widest point.

Vintage Glass Belmont Seventh Race Ticket Intaglio Cabochon

Created using a ticket from the Belmont racetrack in New York, this cool little cabochon measures 1-1/8 inch by 7/8 inch and it's about 1/8 thick. Each preserves an image of a ticket for the 7th race for the strangely named horse, ZzCUM. These are old stock intaglio cabochons that have never been used. The one in the illustration is in perfect condition. However, many of these show some wear. You might want to reinforce the back (bottom) of the stone before you use it in your artwork. We like the shabby chic look of the missing pieces of the ticket. Each one reads:

Little Blue Plastic Flat-Backed Cornflower Component
The lovely cornflower is also known as a bachelor's button, because all too often it was worn as a boutonničre. This lovely flower is an old-time flower with much folklore associated with it. It is also modern and is the national flower of many countries including Estonia, Finland and Germany (one of several national flowers).
Years ago, young men in love wore cornflowers in their lapels. If the flower faded too quickly, the bachelor could be assured that his love would be unrequited.

The favorite of collage, assemblage and jewelry artists for some time, optical lenses (originally from an optometrist’s trial lens sets) are great to add focus to any project. Ours are in excellent condition with few (if any) nicks. The rims may be silvery or golden - and many boast a rich patina or aging, adding to their charm and value. Lenses also differ in thickness and may have some frosting and even a number or symbol on the metal or on the lens itself.
Most hail from the early to mid 1900s; some from a bit later. Some of the lenses have small holes in the handle that make them perfect for your jewelry project - add a jump ring or split ring easily.
We know these would be great as an embellishment or gift tag on a special package for an optician, ophthalmologist, optometrist - or anyone working with eyes - and for collectors of vintage optical instruments and implements.

This little rose cabochon suggests a touch of mystery as would any black rose. It is fashioned of plastic or celluloid molded to appear like the real thing! Cabochons like these are becoming harder and harder to find, so we're always pleased when we can find them.

Small Vintage Plastic Orange or Coral Heart (or Leaf) Cabochon
We have always been celluloid and plastic fans here at SilverCrow. There are ever so many possibilities. Especially fun are the flat-backed cabochons like this cool little orange heart. We were torn between calling this a heart or a leaf, because the edges are more leafy, but upon closer examination, it appears to be a heart. Either way, it's quite nice.
Each of these measures 9mm from top to bottom and 8mm from side to side. The profile (thickness) is about 3mm. They are flat-backed for easy gluing. The ridges catch the light, making them even more perfect for your artwork. Make a quick pair of earrings buy gluing posts to the back, or use it in a plastic collage. There are so very many possibilities!

Old-Style Plastic Flat-backed Birdie
We placed these tiny birdies atop a vintage ruler so that you could see their sizes for your self! With wide open mouths they appear to be in deep conversation, or, perhaps, they are just a bit hungry! The birds come in an assortment of colors, so we can't exactly promise one or another. Vintage White Glass Beaded Headpin
We can't really call it a trend, because designers have been doing it for years - adapting vintage jewelry into newer items - but now there is a new name for it: upcycling! These vintage glass tipped pins were made in Japan, well known for quality costume jewelry components. But we love the older ones even more. The white glass bead tip measures 8mm in diameter. The actual metal pin is a golden metal, measuring about 3/4 inch long (some are a little longer).

Vintage 1939 New York World's Fair Cabochon
What a find! This little plastic cabochon (12mm in diameter) features golden orange lettering and captures a stylized image of the 700-fott high Trylon, the Perisphere (180 feet in diameter) and the Helicline (950 foot ramp).
The theme of the fair was The World of Tomorrow. Right outside this interesting building was the fair's main attraction - Democracity, a utopian city of the future. Fairgoers viewed Democracity from above on a moving sidewalk, under movies displayed on the sides of the sphere. This was all so very modern at the time. And, we guess that we're living in that world today.
The domed cabochon appears almost like a glass paperweight as the image appears to be projected from the bottom with a clear domed top.
This is truly a rare find and we only have a few of them.

Vintage Olivine Celluloid Rose Swag Necklace Centerpiece
So popular in the 1950s and 1960s, this adorable swag centerpiece for a necklace is made of celluloid and is a wonderful, modern olivine jade-like color.
From side to sided this lovely cluster of roses measures 1-7/8 inch. From bottom to top it will hang 1-1/4 inch. There are hanging loops on each side to make it easy to add to your jewelry.

Silver Alloy Double Headpins (or Stamens) - WOW!
Just wait till you start playing with these. For the jeweler or milliner or artist of any kind, we think you'll be amazed with these double-headed headpins. Use them to twist around beads to form a cage. They also make a very special stamen in hand-made flowers.
You might even fold the pin in half and slide the loop through your stone, bead or charm and the ends through the loop. The possibilities only end with your imagination.
Although these are new, they are truly old-school, having been used in jewelry making earlier in the 20th century.
Measuring 60mm, this fine gauge (1mm) silver alloy wire is flexible, but very sturdy. The ball heads (not flat) are hand-formed.

Plastic and composition pieces were major components in jewelry in the mid-20th century. Probably beginning around the 1930s and 1940s. They were popularized by Hollywood heroines and continue to be popular for their stylized design and kitschy colors.
This sweet plastic (or celluloid) lacy heart pendant is exceptionally beautiful in its ivory color. Across the middle, in script, is written,

This is probably from the late 1950s or early 1960s. There is a top hole if you care to attach a jump ring for hanging, or just use the opening in the heart itself. The front of the cabochon is loaded with detail - it almost looks like real lace! The heart measures approximately 1-3/4 by 1-13/16 inch.
