Each one is completely different because they are hand-sculpted and hand painted. Add one to your own special nicho or retablo. Create an entire vignette with several of them. We purchased these wonderful Bar Scene Dioramas hoping to call them Fiesta Dioramas. Every one of them "featured" a fellow (never a lady) who had broken away from the floor - at first we thought this was the intent of the artist - as we bought these sight unseen - just from the artist's description. But, alas, in it was a different guy in each one.

Although all are similar, the señora's dress might be a different color and the Posada print in the background may differ as well as the positions, instruments, etc. Rather than return these, we thought they might be fun to add to a collection in their current states.

Each measures approximately 7-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches by 2-1/4 inches. The top and front are made of glass. On some the sides are made of glass as well. However, most have wooden sides and a wooden base and back.

All of our Day of the Dead figures and diorama boxes are made by traditional artisans and are hand sculpted and painted by traditional Mexican artisans. Each diorama is a bit different (and colors may vary) as they are all handmade!

Catrina is quite famous as a Posada Day of the Dead character. She is usually seen in a long flowing dress and large hat.

This richly made statue is a hand made sculpture made of red clay and kiln fired. Unlike our smaller pieces, each of these Catrinas has been glazed and features a shiny surface.

Because each of these is hand sculpted, every single one is stunningly different from the next, so please let us choose for you.

Our Catrina sculptures range in size from 8-3/4 to 9-1/2 inches tall. At the widest point, these range in width from 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 inches (usually at the base). From front to back, they range in size from 1-7/8 to 2-1/4 from front to back.

Some of these have removable heads, so don't be alarmed when yours arrives decapitated. Catrina may differ slightly in her stance and her apparel may vary in color from the illustration.

Mexican Sugar Skull Molds - Mini Traditional

Sugar Skulls are a traditional folk art from Central and southern Mexico. They are customarily used in Day of the Dead celebrations. Local village open air markets offer mounds of colorful sugar skulls for sale during the week preceding the Day of the Dead. Now you can make your own Mini Traditional Sugar Skulls. The final skulls measure approximately 1-1/2 inch high by 1-1/4 inch wide and about 3/4 inch thik. Finished skulls will be flat-backed.

Over the last few years, people have been producing non-traditional candies and other items such as soaps and plaster images in the same manner of the sugar skulls.

Our molds can be used to make the traditional sugar skulls, chocolate skull candies and even soaps and plaster items.

Our traditional mini mold is great for chocolate or soap as the intricate details are harder to decorate, but the traditional sugar mixture works well in either mold.

If you are going to make plaster or soap skulls, please do not use the same mold for making edible items.

Such unique skull beads as these are certainly festive enough for the Day of the Dead or Hallowe'en, or, even for every day for you skull fans! They are hand crafted and painted or glazed in Peru.

The fancy decoration is multi-colored and almost in the form of a mask. the color follows the outlines that are a part of the bead.

The stringing hole runs from side to side and will accommodate a larger cord or ribbon, making this a perfect component for a pendant. Each bead measures approximately 13/16 inch wide by 1-1/8 inch high. The back of the bead lays flat.

This skeleton changarro boasts three calaveras, all ready for the feast at Frida's Taco Stand. Our artist has included all sorts of interesting uniquely Mexican art to decorate the scene. Frida's self-portrait as well as some of her other artwork and some typically Mexican images are all over the wall behind our three skeletons. They are strangely seated as part of the bench itself their head separately made of plaster. Their table is filled with clay and plastic dinnerware, pitchers and food.

Frida is sanding to the side and carrying a tray full of additional food and drink for her guests. The entire vignette is inside a frame that has been hand made from recycled Mexican fruit crates (rejas) and occasionally, of new wood.

This unique vignette has been created and painted by traditional artisans in Mexico. The combination of single dimensional painting with 3-D renditions of the main characters make this truly unique to this studio. The entire piece is decorated with glitter.

The entire vignette measures just about 14 inches high inches wide by about 12-1/2 inches wide and 2-3/4 inches deep. Each of the characters is hand painted as well! Food and drink items may vary in color as well as the menu and colors. Please let us choose one for you.

So there are insects in the afterworld after all - or, at least so it seems with this little Day of the Dead mariposa. S/he is an ever-so-fancy butterfly. Our elegant friend is made of red Mexican clay and wire. S/he measures about 5 inches high (the antennae add another 1-1/2 inch). From wing to wing, s/he measures about 4-3/4 inches wide.

Butterflies have special meaning throughout Mexico. The gorgeous monarch butterflies that summer up north return to Mexico for the winter. They enjoy the protection of the oyamel fir trees. Anyone would welcome the lovely butterflies just for their beauty, but the local residents believe that the butterflies bear the spirits of their beloved ancestors, which are honored during Los Dias de los Muertos.

Each of these fabulous sugar skull beads is handmade lampwork glass. We were just so excited when we saw them! They truly represent the fantastically decorated sugar skulls and the large painted papier mâché skulls that are so popular for the Days of the Dead in Mexico.

Made just like early paper masks, these tremendous sugar skull Muertos masks are so much fun. There is a set of 4 different masks (as shown) in each package, so you might even choose to share with a friend, or masquerade with your pets or your mannequins.

There are holes for your eyes and the nose area pops out enough to breathe easily - but, there is a small flap which carries on the image. Each mask has white elastic already attached so that it can easily be worn.

Day of the Dead Diorama - At the Gravesite

We're not so sure what's going on here, but we were certainly taken with it. Perhaps these two are honoring the dead. Seated on the grave is a Muerta woman in a bikini and, at the foot of the grave stands a fully dressed gentleman. The grave bears a green wreath which might indicate that this is a new burial, or, indeed, that it is during the celebratory Days of the Dead. Once it's yours, you can create your own fiction or reality.

This special diorama is created almost like a shrine or nicho, with the two Muertos and the finely created accessories in a box, which measures about 4 inches wide, 2-1/2 inches high and about 2 inches deep. Dioramas this finely made are generally much more expensive than this. So, we feel lucky to have found it.

Our friend from Ojinaga created this wonderful framed picture. The drawing is an original based on the famous Posada drawings that illustrated the Days of the Dead so marvelously. The drawing is in black, whites and greys, but lends itself to be highlighted with color if you chose.

The deep red frame is accented in metallic gold and measures 8-1/2 inches high (including the concha trim) by 6-5/8 inches wide and is 1 inch deep. The concha (curved part on top) measures about 1-1/4 inch high by 4-3/8 inches wide. All of these measurements are approximate as each is hand made from recycled Mexican fruit crates (rejas) and occasionally, of new wood.

The center of the concha features a small calaca, or Day of the Dead Skull fashioned from dental plaster, as the artist's wife is a dentist!

Of course, you can replace the picture with our own, or add some mementos to it and further embellish the frame. You might even choose to paint the image. Please be careful adding color - we're not sure if the black lines will bleed. Please make a test on the back before you try.

Each of these beads has been created by hand and then hand finished. Most of the skeleton has been finished in bisque (a matte textural finish). Little bits of shiny glaze have been added in white and in colors on the 3-dimensional accented parts (like the flowers). The eye sockets have been darkened, the teeth painted in and glazed and little filigree strokes have been added.

Every bead is hand painted and fired for a striking appearance. As you can see from the illustration, no two are painted the same, so please let us choose one for you. Colors vary, so we cannot promise a certain color, but if you choose to specify a color, we will try to honor your request. Each order brings us different colors, so our selection often varies.

The coquettish image of the Catrina inspires Maria Belen Nilson's Day of the Dead Catrina Earrings. Catrina is the original creation of José Guadalupe Posada, renowned author, journalist and political cartoonist (1852-1913). Posada is credited for popularizing the Day of the Dead celebrations, especially through the creation of skeletal (calaca) cartoons that capture the Mexican attitude towards death.

One of the most renowned skeletons is the Catrina, (meaning "dapper lady"), and she is always elegantly dressed featuring a wide brimmed hat with flowers. Our earrings set measures 2-3/8 inches long by 1/2 inch wide. These are hand made, so please allow for slight variation.

What a cool stringer to help celebrate the Days of the Dead! Nine festive full color cutouts of calacas (Day of the Dead skulls) have been sewn together in a long string for hanging at your celebration. Each appears almost like a decorated sugar skull. The stringer arrives completely assembled - just take it out of the package and hang! It's printed on both sides in extremely bright colors.

The entire string measures about 6-1/2 feet. Each of the 9 calacas measures around 7 inches high (some shorter, some longer and about 5-1/2 inches wide. Hang it as intended, or cut them apart and use each image separately.

We have searched high and low for a wonderful Day of the Dead Ofrenda to offer to you. And, we finally found one!. From the little wooden table to all of the offerings, everything is hand made and hand painted.

Each table is painted a different color, making the one you receive even more yours! The table top is trimmed with lace and covered with an assortment of foods, skulls, candles, dinnerware and holy pictures. You might consider adding a miniaturized photograph of your ancestor to the table as well.

The entire piece measures 3 inches high (including the offerings). The tables, because they are hand made, vary slightly in size, but they average around 4 inches long by 2-3/4 inches wide.

Although the design is similar, each of the individual pieces varies slightly due to the nature of hand-made folk art. And the items on the table may differ slightly and may even be placed a little differently. We had a hard time choosing which one to photograph as they were all so wonderful!

Such gorgeous butterflies - and just the perfect beads for the Days of the Dead! What a lovely addition to a shrine or ofrenda these would make.

The gorgeous monarch butterflies that summer up north return to Mexico for the winter. They enjoy the protection of the oyamel fir trees. Anyone would welcome the lovely butterflies just for their beauty, but the local residents believe that the butterflies bear the spirits of their beloved ancestors, which are honored during Los Dias de los Muertos.

The stringing hole goes from top to bottom and measures just under 3mm, so it should accommodate many beading techniques. The beads measure 1 inch from top to bottom and 1-1/8 inch from wing tip to wing tip.

No two are painted the same and wing color differs, as does the decoration. Each little butterfly has a flower in her hair as well!

We just can't get enough chenille pipe cleaner ornaments and other creations! This is one of the best we've seen! Just the way the ribs are formed is exciting enough, but the knees and hips! What a wonderful design. We can't say for sure if this was based on an ornament of old, but it certainly is reminiscent of the ornaments made in the earlier 20th century.

The little skull is a reproduction die-cut scrap just like those of the Victorian era. Although his bones can easily be manipulated as any pipe-cleaner can, we suggest you be careful not to rearrange the bones too much, or it might be difficult to return him to his original wonderful self! He comes with a little string hanger attached to his neck!

These little beads are so very special! Tiny as they are, they are loaded with detail. These high fire beads feature a combination of glazed and unglazed parts. His horn and the background color at his feet are glazed and shiny. His wings are hand-painted and glazed to a shine as well. His little body is bisque-like with a textured feel.

Each bead is hand painted and fired for a striking appearance. Each bead measures about 7/8 inch high by 5/8 inch wide.

Sugar Skulls are a traditional folk art from Central and southern Mexico. They are customarily used in Day of the Dead celebrations. Local village open air markets offer mounds of colorful sugar skulls for sale during the week preceding the Day of the Dead. Now you can make your own!

Over the last few years, people have been producing non-traditional candies and other items such as soaps and plaster images in the same manner of the sugar skulls.

Our molds can be used to make the traditional sugar skulls, chocolate skull candies and even soaps and plaster items.

This traditional design sugar skull mold features two flat-backed skulls, each measuring 3-1/4 inches high by 2-1/4 inches wide by 1-1/2 inch thick.

Traditional artisans in Izucar originally crafted these very special ceramic candle holders as votive offerings for prayer - usually in church or for personal shrines at home.

Hand-made and painted flowery skulls are a modern version of the Tree of Life candelabras depicting trees with birds and flowers are traditional gifts of good will in Central America.

Because these are each handmade, they will vary, making yours absolutely unique. It measures about 6-1/2 inches high, and at the widest point, about 3 inches wide.

The candelabra is crafted for a standard taper, but traditional beeswax candles will be lovely in it as well. (You might have to shave or re-shape the candles a bit, depending on the type you use). We think it is quite attractive with no candle at all!

What a very special Loteria this is! It seems that in Mexico, there are at least 100 names for death! This loteria celebrates 50 of these names. This game is played in the same manner as the traditional loteria games, the only difference being the images.

Mexican artist Erik de Luna has captured the essence of these 100 names and has created this really neat game with 50 of those images. The 10 tablas or playing boards each feature 9 images representing La Muerta (death). The playing deck features 50 different images - one on each of the cards. The tablas each measure 9 by 13-1/2 inches and the cards measure 2-1/2 by 3-3/4 inches

To play, simply shuffle the cards, then, turn them over one at a time and call out the name of the card. Contestants place a marker on the image of that card if it is on their playing boards. The rest is just like BINGO!

We love these not only for their adaptation into the loteria game, but for their eccentricity and wonderful artwork. You might choose to integrate this into your art rather than play the game.

Once used as portable shrines or altars, retablos are colorfully painted and hold painted, plaster figures representing something special in the holder's life.

This little matchbox shrine features a Bride and Groom holding hands. These are quite special as they are a mini Day of the Dead Couple. This little work of art has been painstakingly crafted from a matchbox as well as a bit of plaster (usually made of potato starch and gypsum). It has been and traditionally painted in finely detailed vibrant colors.

Our Day Of The Dead Papier Mâché Judas is a traditional character present in many Mexican and Central American celebrations. By tradition, Judas characterizations are made in the images of those in authority - such as judges and the police. In celebrations, they are filled with gun powder and fireworks and when exploded, a great cloud of paper scraps and smoke appears, the paper raining down around the celebrants.

Of course, ours is an image only (no gun powder or fireworks are included). Figures like this little fellow were made even more popular by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera as they began to collect them along with other local folk art.

Each of these is very different from the next - from his horns to his wings to his body decoration. These are hand sculpted, painted and decorated by traditional artisans in the same manner they have made these for decades.

Every Judas is vibrantly colored in reds, blues and yellows. The approximate measurements are 15-1/2 inches from the tip of his horns to the bottoms of his feet. From wingtip to wingtip, he is about 7-1/4 inches wide. And, as he sits on your shelf or chair, he measures 7 inches from front to back.

These little handmade pots are a traditional Mexican craft. They are used for doll houses as well as for ofrendas or tables in celebration of Los Dias de los Muertos. The coquettish image of the Catrina inspires Maria Belen Nilson's Day of the Dead Catrina Earrings. Catrina is the original creation of José Guadalupe Posada, renowned author, journalist and political cartoonist (1852-1913). Posada is credited for popularizing the Day of the Dead celebrations, especially through the creation of skeletal (calaca) cartoons that capture the Mexican attitude towards death.

We could hardly offer these to you! Everyone who saw them wanted one! But, we do have a few of these fantastic little butterfly ornaments. Each is hand made in the tradition of the Day of the Dead and carries the significance of the butterfly - the metamorphosis from cocoon to beautiful butterfly!

Large Day of the Dead Figure - Mariachi

Does someone you know need a special serenade? Then perhaps this large terra cotta mariachi can help! This fellow is made of sturdy terra cotta and is quite the looker!

Just like the rest of our Day of the Dead Figurines, each of these Muertos is hand sculpted and painted by traditional artisans in Mexico.

Each mariachi is different - playing one of several instruments (horn, concertina/accordion, guitar or violín) and the suit and hat colors may vary. The fellows measure from 6 to 8 inches high. We are never quite sure of the color of their gorgeous suits or what instrument each is playing. If you have a preference we will try to honor it, but we just cannot promise that we have that one in stock.

For Carmen Miranda lovers, lovers of fruits or fiestas, this little lady is for you! She is a bendable Calavera (skeleton) that has been hand-painted - based on a traditional Day of the Dead character. Her hat is loaded with freshly sculpted fruits and vegetables and she is dressed in a Mexican cloth skirt, and remains topless. We have these made just for SilverCrow!

She is a modified pre-manufactured skeleton that have been painted by traditional artisans in Mexico. She stands on a handmade wooden platform. Her clothing is all hand made in Mexico.
