Hand-Carved Round Bone Skull Bead

These wonderful beads are carved on both sides - so they are fantastic for making earrings. We particularly are fond of the teeth. Each is hand carved and aged, made of bone. The stringing hole goes from the top of the head to the bottom, through the center of the bead. These beads have an indented rim around the entire circumference, so they would be great for wire-wrapping as well.
Each one measures approximately 11/16 inch in diameter and is about 1/4 inch thick. The faces are flat on either side, except, of course for the fine carving! The aging was probably done with smoke, however, there is no residual scent at all!

We had these wonderfully elaborately detailed gravestone replicas created for us! Although they are great for Hallowe'en, we also love them for their deserted feel. The are made from photographs of authentic gravestones in an almost abandoned cemetery in Colorado.
The shadows and angle of the trompe-d'oeuil photograph make this component absolutely stunning. And the laser cutting is so precise that the figure atop the sepulcher appears to be in such despair over the loss of the loved one within.

Large Hand-Carved Coral Skull Bead
Our imposing coral skull bead is quite stunning when simply added to a cord and knotted at the bottom (the beading hole is vertical from top to bottom of the skull). As an addition to a Day of the Dead ofrenda or an assemblage tableau, it is incomparable. Each of these beads is unique as they are hand-carved. Some have open mouths; some smile; some have variegated coral coloring - but all are imposing!
The approximate size is 1 inch high by 3/4 inch wide and deep. Each of these sits flat nicely on the chin, so you might use it as an additional embellishment instead of a bead. The stringing hole is from top to bottom.

Such unique skull beads as these are certainly unique enough for the Day of the Dead or Hallowe'en, or, even for every day for you skull fans! They are hand crafted and painted or glazed in Peru.
The fancy decoration is tone-on-tone off-white with an antiquing in grey and black. and almost in the form of a mask. The antiquing color follows the outlines that are a part of the bead.

Fashioned after an old-style bottle urn, our high-fire pendant has a natural off-white finish and brown shading for an unglazed look. On either side of the top, you'll find large holes that complement the urn's ancient style. You might use these to add a leather cord and make it into a necklace.
The interior has been glazed, but it should not be considered food-safe or waterproof.

This is the really neat old-fashioned, original glitter that was used for holiday decorations of all types since the end of the 19th century. The white form of mica glitter is usually used to imitate snow or to add an iridescent glittery effect. We can only imagine what you might be able to create with BLACK MICA!
Mix mica with paint, ink, glue, any artistic media. Sprinkle it on your holiday decorations. Grind it. Mix it with a tiny amount of any powdered pigment (including the cost-effective tempera pigment) to give it color. Experiment. Have fun!
We've packaged the mica in reusable plastic jars that measure about 2 inches in diameter and 2 inches high. The mica is quite lightweight, so a little goes a long way!
So, you'll have plenty for lots of projects. For Hallowe'en, gothic and other projects with a black or midnight theme, our Black Mica might be just perfect!

From about 1901 (right after the Victorian period) up to about 1910, or even as late as 1918 (after World War I), British society suffered a very rigid system, despite the new philosophies and politics floating about. The want (and need) for more liberal thought and a move for greater social acceptance of all British started despite the seemingly unmovable morés at the time.
The Edwardian Period was also known as the Belle Époque (Beautiful Era), a time for elegant masquerade balls with gorgeous gowns and absurd masks such as this, our out older doctor with a reflective monocle.

We love crepe paper - and not just for streamers. Make bows and flowers, cover nut cups, make ornaments. The possibilities are endless.
And, on top of that, this is VINTAGE crepe. This is just what you need for making reproduction Christmas ornaments. Using the real vintage stuff makes them look and feel authentic. This crepe roll was produced by the Dennison company, well known for their home arts papers and other supplies for decades. Dennison has since merged with Avery office products to become Avery Dennison. So new quality Dennison craft and art products are no longer available.
The Dennison Flameproof Steamer sticker remains on each roll, but is a little loose on some of the rolls we have in stock. There is some modest wear and a touch of fading (from storage) on the outside of the roll, but that makes it even more appropriate for your vintage projects!
These 45-foot rolls originally sold for 25¢. That and the label suggest that the rolls are from the mid-20th century.

Vintage Crepe Paper Streamer - Hallowe'en Black Cat & Jack-o'Lantern

What glorious vintage crepe paper - all original old stock, not used! This crepe roll was produced by the Coronet Company of New York City.
You'll be charmed by the fun alternating Black Cats and Jack-o'Lanterns - some of each are happy and some are sad - on every roll! The printing is wonderful and the paper is in fantastic shape. The only wear that we notice is the coloring. The original streamer was white. These streamers vary in background tone from a darker off white to tan (as you can see in the illustration).
This great streamer arrives with its original label, which indicates that these are 2-1/8 inches wide by 8 yards long!
These are old store stock - never used. They are from the 1960s but could certainly be mistaken for much older streamers. They are from a Northeast USA warehouse that was known for distributing to five and ten cent stores and Mom & Pop variety stores back in the 1960s.

This fun piece has folding scores to help you help him hide. It also features fold for the two tabs at the bottom in the grass, so that you can stand him up. The little die cut is made of lightweight cardboard rather than paper making him perfect a part of your Hallowe'en diorama, or by himself on a table.

Here at the SilverCrow atelier, we are quite fond of Hallowe'en all year long. Actually, we're quite fond of every holiday all year long. If we could, we'd decorate for every occasion all at once. Alas, we cannot, but we can help you do it - or, at least plan ahead!
Our old-fashioned black feather tree looks great on its own, but it will really be spectacular when you add your ornaments. The tree measures 21 inches from the bottom of the base to the tip top and the largest branch span is a bit over 11 inches at the base. The branches fold up easily for storage.
The wooden base is a plump roundish pumpkin and remains balanced, despite its shape. The orange of the pumpkin has a weathered look, but you might even want to paint it another color, such as blood-red, for a vampire tree.
But, black is also elegant, so why not transition the base from season to season or holiday to holiday with a tree skirt or some tinsel?
The little tips are a subtle orange, but once you add lots of red, they appear to change to red - at least to us....or maybe we just wanted them to do that!
Black and silver or gold ornaments might even take you into Christmas with this lovely feather tree.

We think it's because of the unique components She is made of molded plastic and then distressed richly, making her scarier than ever. Her little broom is made of horsehair fibre, which adds another eerie effect.
Because of the positioning of her broom, she looks best flying left to right. Although she is reversible, her broom is more prominent as pictured. Her other profile is less distressed.

Old paper Hallowe'en treat bags (there's no trick here!) have recently come into their own as a collectible, and for good reason: they look great framed, they are still inexpensive, and there are hundreds of different types to collect.
This spooky one is from old store stock and was produced by Topstone Industries, Inc of Danbury, Connecticut. It features an orange full moon and spooky tree hovering over a haunted graveyard. There are some little characters (are they goblins?) running through.
Even the back features a continuation of the illustration and a lonely little black cat sneaking out of the graveyard!

Old-Fashioned Chenille Scrap Ornament - Calavera (Skeleton)
We just can't get enough chenille pipe cleaner ornaments and other creations! This is one of the best we've seen! Just the way the ribs are formed is exciting enough, but the knees and hips! What a wonderful design. We can't say for sure if this was based on an ornament of old, but it certainly is reminiscent of the ornaments made in the earlier 20th century.
The little skull is a reproduction die-cut scrap just like those of the Victorian era. Although his bones can easily be manipulated as any pipe-cleaner can, we suggest you be careful not to rearrange the bones too much, or it might be difficult to return him to his original wonderful self! He comes with a little string hanger attached to his neck!

Art Postcard - Day of the Dead Jester
This fellow either died laughing or told such an awfully bad joke. We love the imagery here. This skeleton is subtly dressed in a jesters hat and collar and enjoying his moment - whatever it might be. The hint of pastel wash to his hat and collar lend an even more curious air to the image. It is signed, R.W., but we're not sure of the artist. But there is certainly a Posada-like tone to this great postcard.

We love old labels and this one is extra special. The skull and crossbones symbol indicates that this is a poison. The vintage label is printed in red like most pharmacy labels from the early 20th century. The back of the label has a gummed backing indicating a water-moistened adhesive. Now we don't suggest that you lick these to adhere to your project as we're not sure of the origins or content of the glue. You can use any water-based glue to adhere it to your project. Or, if you dare, dampen the adhesive lightly with a well-squeezed sponge (don't use too much water!) and hope for the best!
Each 2-1/2 by 1-1/8 inch label reads:

These paper card-stock masks uniquely represent the graphical art of the 40s, 50s and 60s popular in the US. Their vivid colors are almost as vibrant as when they were produced, even after all of these years!
We know that these masks are probably politically incorrect today. And, we certainly do not want to offend anyone!
Such masks were popular styles in the mid 20th Century. Each is brilliantly printed in bright colors and with interesting detail. We believe that these are chromolithographed items, but we cannot be sure
There are perforated tabs on either side to punch out to add a ribbon or elastic for someone to wear these as masks, as intended. However, we think they are just wonderful as framed items or as memorabilia of the past. Many of the masks boast tabs that are still intact, never having been punched out. However, some of the perforated items have been lost through the years.
The eyes are perforated as well. The wearer would punch out the eyes (so s/he could actually see when wearing the mask).
Each of the masks measures about 7-1/2 inches wide (ear to ear) by about 10 inches high. Of course, there is a notch for the wearer’s nose.
These were a fantastic find! They are old store stock and have never been used. The woman from whom we bought these tells SilverCrow that she sold quite a lot of these some time ago. She couldn’t remember if it was in the 50s or 60s, as she raised children in both decades and dressed even more children for Halloween!
We have sorted out the very damaged masks, and most are in pristine condition. We will ship the ones in the best condition first, so, be sure to order right away - when they're gone - they're gone!

Hand-Carved Wooden Skull Bead
One of our larger skull beads, this hand-carved skull is made of darkened wood in China. It's perfect for Day of the Dead and Hallowe'en projects - or, because of its rich color, it would be perfect in any earth-tone project. Because these beads are hand-carved, they are all different. Each one measures about 1 inch high by 15/16 wide. The hole runs from top to bottom.

Tiny Carved Black and Blue iridescent Glass - Skull Bead
Measuring only 9/16 high by about 7/16 inch wide, our iridescent skull beads will certainly enhance any of your spooky jewelry or artwork. While this is really a black glass bead, the other side is finished with a bluish iridescence that almost glows!
The oval bead is drilled through from top to bottom - making this a great bead for earrings. The skull is carved into each side. Two beads are shown (one on each side).

Candy containers were quite popular during the Victorian era. These little Dresden triangles are easily made into cones with a little bit of rolling and a touch of paper glue! Fill the cones up with candy or tiny toys and decorate for Hallowe'en or an elegant Black and White party.
These intricately embossed Dresdens are die cut beautifully and ready for you to use with only a tiny bit of trimming. This set of 2 cones feature embossed flowers - one with roses and the other with violets. Each measures 8 inches high by 6-1/2 inches wide. Black Dresden Star Ornament Base
This wonderful heavy-weight black Dresden base is just what you need to create old-fashioned paper ornaments for Hallowe'en, a Black-and-White Masquerade Ball or any other occasion. Add a little scrap picture with a dab of glue to the center (or even a Victorian-style sticker), maybe a few pieces of angel hair or krausbouillion and you'll create a brand new heirloom!
The base of the ornament measures about 3-1/4 inches in diameter (from one point to the opposite). The loop on top is for hanging and adds about 1/4 inch more. This striking Dresden is black on both sides and is weighty enough to be the base for a complex design.
The embossing on these reliefs is superb. These are made in the same fashion as they have been for many, many decades! Some trimming is necessary, just as it was for the originals.
