What a holiday treat - this joyful Christmas bell pin. On a dark cream background, the golden bell clangs and is decorated with elegant holly and a shiny red ribbon. It would add a bit of festivity even to the dullest of wintry days.

Primitive Oval Folk Art Reindeer Pin
Fashioned in a primitive colonial art style, this lovely pin features a reindeer flanked by stylized evergreens. It's pastel rendering allows it to be worn anytime of year, but we love the subtle touch it lends to the Christmas holidays - particularly if you're not fond of bling.
The pin measures 2-1/4 inches wide by 1-5/8 inch high. The sides and back have been finished in black, adding a frame-like quality to the pin, although the black is not visible from the top.
We're not quite sure of the material - it might be lightweight wood or perhaps masonite. The image has been découpaged onto the pin.

How cute is this little pink puppy. These fun pins are made of celluloid - one of the first commercially available plastics. These were quite popular in the early to mid-20th century and were molded into jewelry, vanity accessories, kitchen utensils and more.
This little fellow was created sometime around 1948. He is still brightly colored and measures about 2-1/4 inches wide by about 2 inches high. Each one of theses little guys has been hand-painted, so please allow for variation.

These funny little ducky pins are brand new, unused old stock. They were made in Germany over twenty years ago and feature a debonair dancing duck - dressed to the nines, just like Fred Astaire - with top hat and cane. This lead-free pin is vintage and is made with the precision workmanship for which the Germans are so well known!
The beautiful detailing is old-world style. The the color of the duck's outfit varies (see our close-up for other colors). But we have only a few of each color. So, please let us choose one for you.

Vintage Little Orphan Annie Pin
Leapin' lizards! Were we ever excited to find these wonderful old Little Orphan Annie pins. We think they are made of celluloid or bakelite. Though not advertised as such, we've performed the standard tests and expect that they are.
Each measure 1-1/2 inch from her chin to the top of her curly hair and 1-1/4 inch wide. When we discovered these they were all attached to canvas, so we left them on the material for you.
The back of the pin is glued on. So, we're not really sure if this motif was originally meant to be a pin or not. We suspect these to hail from sometime mid 20th century.
Because you're never fully dressed without a smile, if you're in a bad mood, just put this pin on and let Annie smile for you...we're sure that will engender many a smile from those you meet.

We can't really call it a trend, because designers have been doing it for years - adapting vintage jewelry into newer items - but now there is a new name for it: upcycling! These vintage glass tipped pins were made in Japan, well known for quality costume jewelry components. But we love the older ones even more. The white glass bead tip measures 8mm in diameter. The actual metal pin is a golden metal, measuring about 3/4 inch long (some are a little longer).

The burnished brass songbird cameo is a richly colored gift you or a friend will certainly treasure. A tiny heart with an aurora borealis Austrian crystal accent adds to the Victorian flavor. The image is resin-coated for lasting beauty.
The vintage image in this pin was reproduced from a private collection of antique prints and postcards which were found in shops and markets and some people's attics so long ago. The reproduction cameo casting is antiqued brass. The brooch measures 1-1/2 inch wide by just over an inch from top to bottom. The dangling heart adds another 3/8 inch.

April Fool's Day (the first of April) finds its roots in so many different traditions, it's hard to sort them all out. The vast number of these histories seem to center around the Vernal Equinox, once signaling the New Year. As today, many were known to exchange hopeful gifts at the beginning of the new year. So, when the calendar changed to feature January 1 as beginning each year, many protested by making mock gifts and ceremonies. This negative reaction turned into the April Fool's Jokes we have today.

This elegant but eerie pin is crafted from an actual Beetle (Sternocera Acquisagnata) from the forests of Northern Thailand. The beetles die after reproducing, then are fashioned into pins. Their natural iridescent color will charm and delight you. Beetles have many meanings throughout the world and are often considered good luck as they are by the Thai Hill Tribes, who traditionally wear these pins and other jewelry made of the beetle's wings.
