The only way we can think to describe these is way cool! Working in much the same way as the Currier & Ives stereoviews of the past, these operate on the venerable principle of the stereopticon. The viewer does not use the 3D-TV Glasses with one blue and one red lenses. These cards, instead have a nearly identical image for each lens - and of course, there is a cut-out for your nose. You can even adjust the focus - just squeeze the folded-out card.
There's a space for a short message and the whole card folds flat for mailing in the envelope provided. Perfect for the occasion when a gift is too much and a card too little!
Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) was and is one of the world's most famous graphic artists. The left-handed artist is best known for his impossible structures and amazing three-dimensional woodcuts and drawings. He was consistently fascinated with congruency, perspective and technique: often spending hours experimenting.
This black and white card is a reproduction of his famous Reptiles tessellation, originally created in 1943.

Each sticker features the iconic touch of God and Adam, where God is giving life to the world's first human. In this lenticular version, the two hands move closer together and then - a spark! 3D Art Postcard - The Touch by Michelangelo
From one of the most famous paintings in history, this awe-inspiring postcard features a section of the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Michelangelo's interpretation of that instant that God made Adam the first man has been transformed into a lenticular movable postcard. The images of their hands (God's is on the right, Adam's on the left), move from far apart to the center oft he card - just below the crack in the ceiling - as they touch, a spark appears. Although a bit irreverent, we're sure the meaning is the same!
It's difficult to illustrate the transformations in his movements online, so you'll just have to trust us that this is wonderful!

3D Lenticular Ruler - The Great Wave
More Items of the Sea
More Desk Accessories
We love lenticulars - the layered paper and plastics that create a moving 3-dimensional effect. This wonderfully useful ruler familiar image of the Great Wave by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai.
Hokusai is quite famous for his wonderful wood-cut prints of the Ukiyo-e, pictures of the floating world - everyday life. His works seems to be more popular in the West than it has ever been in his homeland.
The movement of the waves in this lenticular will keep you mesmerized - so much so that you might forget to measure whatever it was you though you needed to measure - after all, measurement is a man-made idea, not nearly as gracious as the earth that Hokusai has captured in his wave, nor as fascinating as the lenticular captured on this ruler.
Each 12-inch ruler is marked with centimeters as well as inches and it measures 2-3/16 inches wide.

Vintage Lenticular Winky Sunbeam Bread Ring
More Vintage Items
Baby Boomers will remember these! So many cereal packages contained premiums or rewards that could be on their way in the mail with only a self-addressed stamped envelope and 50¢ or something like that. There were premiums in detergent boxes, at service stations (yes, there was service at the gas stations then!) and more. This cute little ring was one of those give-aways!
This 1-inch Sunbeam Bread flicker adjustable ring pictures Miss Sunbeam taking a bite out of a piece of bread! Mmmm-mmmm! Miss Sunbeam was a popular character in the mid-20th century, found on all kinds of premiums as well as in comic books.
The ring is in pretty good shape with nice lenticular flicker action. Kid could get one of these by simply redeeming the end label from the Sunbeam Bread wrapper circa 1960. Some of the rings are lightly printed with a

Vintage Lenticular "Winky" Lips
We've always enjoyed lenticular (winky, blinky, flicker) images - especially the vintage ones. We were just so very excited when we found these vintage Vari-Vue lenticular lips that vary from a smile to a kiss!
Use them for your art dolls to ad a kitschy flavor to them. Or just collect them like we do! Lenticular images like these (3d composition screens) were made a bit differently during the mid part of the 20th century - providing what we think is a much better 3D image.
The colors of the printed image are amazingly vibrant considering that these winky lips are almost a half-century old!
Our sample photo doesn't do our lips justice - the variation is delightful as the smile turns to kiss, or, of course, the kiss changes to a smile!

3D Art Postcard - The Last Supper
Perhaps one of the most recognizable images, The Last Supper features Jesus and his Twelve Apostles. Before Leonardo DaVinci placed all of the diners on one side of the table, most depictions of the last supper showed the diners on both sides of the table, some with their backs to the viewer. This image, based on DaVinci's, shows all of the Apostles on the same side of the table as Jesus.
The image transforms from Jesus sitting alone at the table, to a full table of diners. Although the transformation from one image to the next is hard to notice online, we're sure you'll be as awed by the images in person.

3D Art Postcard - Claude Monet: The Poppy Field
More French-Inspired Items
Musée D'Orsay Artistamps
Claude Monet's The Poppy Field, an oil on canvas, was painted in a field near Argenteuil, France in 1873. The original measures 19-5/8 by 25-5/8 inches and is shown today in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
So evident in this painting as well as in all his others, Monet's passion for colors, both in nuance and in broad accentuation, defines his special Impressionistic style. In the foreground amongst the dabs of red poppies strewn across the field, Monet sketches in the figures of Camille and Jean (his wife and son) with simple strokes of violet, black, and white that hint at their. Their figures appear again at the top of the hills in the distance, more a suggestion of color than an accurate record of their appearance.

Vintage Lenticular "Winky" World Peace Through Understanding
More Lenticulars Peace Through Understanding Lenticular
More USA
The colors of this wonderful little lenticular are certainly reminiscent of it's era - the 1960s! It was made to become part of a souvenir of the 1964-5 New York World's Fair. The advertisement features the Unisphere - the symbol of the fair that was made of steel - hence the logo USS from United States Steel.
It is in superb condition and is marked Vari-Vue on the back, further verifying its authenticity. Such items are also called flashers, flickers, wiggles, animation or winky pictures.
The front has an exciting effect as you'll see two pictures on each flicker, depending on the angle when you view it. The words
SOUVENIR of the NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR ©1964 - 1965
change to a picture of the World Unisphere with the words
New York World's Fair ©1964 - 1965
Even thought this little novelty was created in the 1960s, the message is just as timely today. This wonderful VariVue Motion Lenticular piece measures 3/4 inch square.

3D Art Postcard - Hokusai Katsushika - The Great Wave
More 3D Lenticulars
We love lenticulars - the layered paper and plastics that create a moving 3-dimensional effect. This wonderfully mailable post card features the familiar image of the Great Wave by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai who lived from 1760 to 1849.
He is quite famous for his wonderful wood-cut prints of the Ukiyo-e, pictures of the floating world - everyday life. His works seems to be more popular in the West than it has ever been in his homeland.
His striking image of the sea completed in this new lenticular form is simply spectacular - the movement is amazing. In fact the sea appears to transform into mountains, another of the artists favorite subjects. Although the transformation is hard to notice online, we're sure you'll be as awed by the images in person.

Lenticular Weeping Willow Tree - Perfect for framing
These lenticular trees are a delight! Culled from never-used old store stock, having never even been sold, they are in tip-top condition. Measuring 8 by 10 inches, these lenticular 3D pictures were originally distributed by Emdor.
Although they are not marked Vari-Vue, they are the same high quality as anything Vari-Vue made. Hailing from the late 1960s or early 1970s, some are from the USA and others from Japan. Other than the "Made in" stamp, there appears to be no difference between them.
There are lots of copies of this same image made today, but these are original to the 3D era of the mid-20th century. Marked on the back is:
Weeping Willow Tree #8014
We framed one for ourselves in a simple wooden frame with glass (from Wal-Mart) and the depth and movement are even more captivating under glass.

Vintage Lenticular "Winky" Gizmo (for Golf?)
We've always enjoyed lenticular (winky, blinky, flicker) images - especially the vintage ones. These are quite special vintage Vari-Vue triangles with moving arrows.
Sometimes called flashers, flickers, wiggles or animated paper, our lenticulars are all cool, but this one is really neat. This Vari-Vue flicker (we think these are the best!) was made in 1967 and is still in excellent condition. Each is a triangle with a hole at the top - so it can be attached to a key chain or to any project easily. From the top an arrow swings like a pendulum back and forth. The image is so wonderful that it almost makes you dizzy watching the arrow!
But the real use might just surprise you!
We are told that this is a Golf Practice Gizmo. No fooling - that's the real name! To make it work, insert your golf tee through the hole. Place the ball and then place your ball and your Gizmo on the ground in position for driving. If the arrows move, it measures your body sway. A stationary arrow indicates a steady swing.
Each individual triangle measures approximately 2-1/2 inches by 2-1/2 inches. These are great fun for golfer who celebrate the history of the sport as well as the play. Whether used for golf or not, you'll find this to be mesmerizing.

Both dancers sway to the rhythm of the silent music. Uniquely, their entire bodies move back and forth, with arms swinging up and down and back and forth. These are truly remarkable effects that are best viewed in person, of course! This little piece is quite sturdy and measures 1-1/4 inch across by just about 1 inch. tall. A Great item!

3D Note Card - MC Escher - Drawing Hands
Drawing Hands is one of Escher's most recognized works. It is absolutely fascinating that Escher was able to turn flat surfaces (drawings) into such spatially perplexing paradoxes. The hands are drawing the other's cuffs on paper. As they draw the detail in the hand becomes so great it appears to be jumping off the page to drew the other cuff on flat paper!
The original lithograph, produced in 1948, measured 28.2 by 33.2 centimeters.

3D Note Card - MC Escher - Still Life and Street
This black and white card is a reproduction of his famous woodcut Still Life & Street, originally created in 1937. A small street in Savona, Italy, was the inspiration for this special work. Famous for his enigmatic images, in this special work, there are two realities bound together in a seemingly realistic, yet honestly impossible, way. The street is seen from the window. Escher has made the outdoor houses appear as though the indoor books rest upon them. Escher has eliminated the border between the window and the street, allowing all the objects to merge, almost creating another dimension.
