Such lovely beads as these are made from naturally shed horn. So, you needn't worry that any animal suffered to provide these for us. We purchased these in the 1990s from the individuals who made the bead.
The stripe in the center of the bead is not a stripe at all, it the s the stringing hole! Of course these are all a tiny bit different as they are made individually by hand. Each measures 5/8 inch high by 1/2 inch wide.
The caramel amber color makes the bead almost delicious.

Sage, copal & Cedar Smudge for Healing

Abalone Smudge Bowl
Whether you are performing a cleansing ceremony before healing, or just because you enjoy the scent, you'll enjoy our smudging supplies. It is important to cleanse the soul and body of bad spirits, negative energies and thoughts. These traditional items are prepared in much the same manner as they have been for generations of Native Americans. The herbs are quite aromatic, even if just displayed and never burned. Smudging involves taking the smoke in to your hands and brush or rub it over your body.
Our sage, copal and cedar bundle measures between 6 and 8 inches long and is tightly woven (ties may differ). Our combination smudge stick brings together the cleansing characteristics of sage and the connection to our ancestors represented by cedar. Copal is known for it's purifications and protection properties. This is just the right size for personal use or for use in a small sweat lodge. This smudge is prepared by hand from natural materials, so please allow for variation.
These wild crafted herbs are gathered into a bundle by the Kumeyaay Indians of Baja California, Mexico, and recognized as an authentic native Indian made product. The selected herbs follow traditional Indian customs practiced by generations for ceremonial purposes. The pointed end of the bundle, while held of a bowl with the sand is then ignited with fire. Blowing on the glowing surface will provide the fragrance smoke. Saying a prayer for someone in need while gently wanding the bundle around the area, will enhance the enjoyment of this ancient ritual. After smudging, rub out the ignited ember in the bowl of sand then place the bundle on your sacred alter for future use.
Never leave smudge burning unattended and please use caution. Keep away from children and never place on a flammable surface.

2-Ounce Sampler of Dead Sea Salt
More Bath & Bathing
We started using Dead Sea Salt for making our own scented bath salts years ago. The therapeutic aspect of the salts is absolutely amazing! Previously, we were using Epsom Salts, which worked well, but they just can't compare with the salts of the Dead Sea. In fact, many people have been known to bathe in the Dead Sea for the healing power of the mud and salts.
The salts from the Dead Sea are rich with minerals, containing large proportions of Potassium, Magnesium and Bromide. Potassium assists in the regulation of your skin's moisture level. Bromide is a smoothing and relaxing effect and magnesium is known to promote healing. These salts make a great exfoliate and will help draw out the toxins in your skin, revitalizing it in the process.
The Salts of the Dead Sea are also known to relieve aches and pains, reduce stiffness and relax the muscles. The will promote relief of skin problems, too, such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. Of course, it is not a complete cure, but it does work well due to the high mineral content. These minerals stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation - moving trapped fluids in the joints and tissues. The exfoliation also encourages new skin cell regeneration.
The salt grains are about the size of pretzel salt and may have become dry once packaged. Simply break apart the grains with a fork or a spatula.
You can use this alone to make a bath salt, body polish or foot scrub. Or mix it with Epsom Salts to reduce your cost. You can use it as is, or add fragrance and color if you choose.
For external use only.

Mini Wicker Blower or Fan - Traditional Mexican Bridal Shower Party Favor
More Little People & Things
More Anniversaries & Weddings
We were not quite sure why these were traditional party favors, but we were sure that they are quite deftly made of wicker by people who are adept at making tiny things from straw.
So, we've decided that these are for waving or blowing away ill will, evil spirits and negative energy from the bride and groom.
Now we have heard from one of our dear customers that this straw is called popote. The full-sized blower is used to fan the embers of a fire. This symbolizes that the bride will now have her own hearth to maintain - her own household. My Mom used to call this "when she went to housekeeping." So, although the traditions may differ, the sentiments are the same in many parts of the world.
Of course, because these are made by hand, there will be slight variation. That is why we are showing you two in our illustration. Straw art such as this is called popotillo.
This is not a toy. For decorative or artistic use only.

Ramie is a natural fiber that is often found in organic style clothing in a mixture with cotton or linen. But, it is fabulous on its own. You might even shred it and use it as an ingredient in soap-making - or, add it to some paint and create a special texture.
Traditional Cowhide Parchment - 6-inch Square Sheet with practice swatch
Hand Cut Goose Quill Pen
The original paper! This is natural tanned and treated cowhide (a 6-inch by 6-inch Square) that is ready for your artwork.
Each piece is accompanied by a smaller sampler piece that you can use for practice. As the parchment is a natural product, each piece is different. This is the coarsest of the parchments and is much like rawhide - so be careful or your puppy might just get too interested in this.
Parchment becomes finer with greater preparation. This is the heaviest type of parchment. So you might see a bit of a bend in the piece. This is a normal result of the drying process.
Parchment such as this, traditional goat vellum and cowhide parchment are often used in metaphysical pursuits.
Please keep away from children & pets. This product has been prepared with chemicals that may be harmful if ingested.

Natural Beetle Wings
Beetle Wing Pin
These delicate yet strong natural beetle wings are from the Thai Emerald Beetle (sternaceras echisinata/acquisagnata). For years they have been used traditionally as jewelry and ornament. The wing is curved slightly toward the back, just as on the beetle. The beetles die after reproducing, and the Hill Tribes in the northern forests of Thailand consider them good luck and wear them in many manners.
Their natural iridescent color is just tremendous. Each one has a small hole in the wider end, ready to use in your project. Because these are so lightweight, they make wonderful earring components. Of course, each of these is different because they are natural. Wing sizes average around 1-1/4 inch long by 3/8 inch wide.

Pouch of Iron Pyrite - Fool's Gold
Iron Pyrite is a crystal that usually forms as a cube with striations on each face, or side. Sometimes it is found in larger pieces and as course granules. But, it is usually found in little nuggets, just like gold. As a matter of fact, it is often found near gold deposits. Because of its golden color and proximity the the real thing, it is often mistaken for the much more valuable gold. So, it is known as Fool's Gold.
Its brassy yellow color might resemble gold, but its other physical properties are very different. Pyrite is harder, less dense, and more brittle than gold. If you strike it with steel, it produces a spark. It leaves a greenish-black streak while gold leaves a golden-yellow one. Because it is often found near gold (and copper) deposits, if you find some, you may be nearing a deposit of the real thing!
Iron pyrite is used for its high sulfur content and is mined for that reason worldwide, as it is quite common.
Our little muslin pouch holds nuggets Fool's Gold to collect or use in your artwork or school project.

Believe it or not, calcite is the most common mineral next to quartz. But optical calcite - now, this is special, and, of course, less common. It is much like a rectangle - but, not quite - it looks as thought it were stretched. Each stone is clear with a special icy luster.
Now the fun comes when you place an object behind it - the object will appear to be double! This is because rent indices of refraction of light that defines optical calcite. This stone is sometimes called a TV Stone because of the refracting nature.
Optical instruments often feature flawless specimens of optical calcite. Of course, the pieces we're offering are not flawless, but we're sure each piece will generate lots of fun and conversation! Pieces measure from 1/2 to 1 inch on each side.

108 Buddhas on a Walnut
Carefully carved on this unopened walnut shell are the miniscule representations of 108 bald, sitting Buddhas. This amulet is often carried for good luck.
The number 108 is quite important in the Buddhist traditions. Buddhist malas consist of 108 beads. Bells are rung 108 times at the beginning of the new year for luck.
Because walnuts are natural, each of these is completely different from the next. But, all measure about 1-1/2 inch. The walnut is hand-carved with the nutmeat still inside. While the carver strove to carve 108 Buddhas, the the number may vary and may not reach the auspicious and sacred number. This does not make it any less lucky, and we're sure you'll enjoy counting them.

As with all natural materials, each quill is unique. You can clip the ends and thread through the quill, use it to write by sharpening one end and using it as a dip pen. It would make a great spine base for binding an informal book or pamphlet.
We have even seen them sliced into sections and inlaid in furniture and frames. Because of their size, they also make lovely and unique chignon pins.

Display Box of Fossil Sharks' Teeth
Sharks belong to a large group of fish that have a skeleton made of cartilage rather than bone. Although cartilage is firm, it is rarely found in any fossils as it is a tissue usually yellow or white in color. The only fossilized remains of ancient sharks are their teeth.
In each 1-1/2 by 2 inch plastic display box, you'll receive from 8-15 fossilized sharks' teeth. What fun to see and touch the remains of a living being who preceded us by so many hundreds or thousands of years.
The shark tooth represents strength and power and has long been made in to talismans and jewelry.
Each box is lined with black velveteen to better display the teeth. And, of course, each collection of teeth is different as all are real. Please let us choose a box for you.

Double Pointed Calame Reed Pen
More Pencils, Pens & Brushes
More African & Egyptian Items
The first fiber tip pens were made in Egypt as far back as 500 BC! Made from various reeds (these are bamboo), calames find their roots in reed brushes that were pounded or chewed into shape.
As writing developed, the reeds were split and made into pens. Writing fluid is held in the hollowed out shaft of the reed and flows down through the chiseled or pointed tip, or nib. Our calame features two sharpened ends.
Because of the natural bamboo, calames can only be made by hand.
Now you can create your own old-world documents with a bamboo reed calame or pen and SilverCrow's papyrus! You may even want to buy one as a model to carve your own calame from our bamboo stalks.
One nib is 1/16 and the other is 3/32. So, this pen can accomplish a variety of writing techniques.
And, just imagine what a great show and tell this would be for grade school, art school or with friends of all ages!

Your selection of five natural stone arrowheads will suit any natural-based or Native American project. Because these are hand-made of stone, the variations are endless!
Of course, these arrowheads needn't be used on arrows - in fact, they are made for decorative purposes. Several displayed in a hand-made pin dish would be quite the talk of the family room. Consider tying them to decorative fibres to embellish any collage, card, assemblage, bookmark, etc. Even use them for the feet of your Art Dolls. The possibilities are endless!
These arrowheads are imported. They are not Native American Indian produced, a Native American Indian product or the product of a particular Native American Indian, Native American Indian Tribe or Native American Indian Arts and Crafts Organization.
