Literary Greats (in Caricature) Paper Dolls
More Paper Dolls
More Poe
More Shakespeare
More Other Famous People
More Alice in Wonderland
This delightful paper doll collection features 35 paper dolls of famous authors, each with costumes depicting characters from their best-known works. The authors are in caricature and some look a little silly. Although we'd rather see these be more realistic, they probably wouldn't be as much fun!
Introducing each author is a quotation from that literary giant. This from Agatha Christie, the first doll in the book:
The impossible could not have happened, therefore the impossible must be possible in spite of appearances.
Ms Christie's costumes include Hercule Poirot, Sir Wilford Robarts and Miss Marple.
Another of our favorites is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, with Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson outfits as well as one of a fairy-believer.
Other literary stars are:
Ayn Rand - The Brothers Grim (Jacob & Wilhelm) - The Brontë Sisters Charles Dickens - Emily Dickenson - Ernest Hemmingway - Fyodor Dostoyevsky Franz Kafka - F. Scott Fitzgerald - Geoffrey Chaucer - George Orwell - H.G. Wells Herman Melville, Jane Austen, Jack London, J.R.R. Tolkein - Jules Verne Lewis Carroll - L. Frank Baum - Leo Tolstoy - Mary Shelley - Mark Twain Nathanial Hawthorne - Oscar Wilde - Rudyard Kipling Robert Louis Stevenson - Tennessee Williams - Virginia Woolfe - William Shakespeare
And of course, our favorite is Edgar Allan Poe, with outfits from The Murders in the Rue Morgue, The Mask of the Red Death and The Raven.

Movie Mobsters Paper Dolls
More Greed
From 1931's The Public Enemy, starring James Cagney and Jean Harlow, to Johnny Depp's 2009 portrayal of John Dillinger in Public Enemies, there has been a fascination beyond compare in American movies with the bad guy, the mobster, the criminal.
Gangster movies had their roots in some of the earliest of the silent films, but the genre only became fully established with the "talkies" of the 1930s. Parallel to the advent of sound in film was the Great Depression with its rampant financial instability and national sense of malaise. There was something fascinating about the tales of poor boys who became rich by taking what they wanted, no matter the consequences.
Although the message, "crime doesn't pay" was always stressed, the undercurrent was that it did pay - at least until you were caught, or done in by the competition.
Organized crime during the prohibition era (1920-330 made an enormous amount of money with their illegal activities such as bootlegging, gambling and prostitution. AT the same time, the Irish and Jewish mobsters were seen as the villains and the Italians a minor force. During the early 1930s, Hollywood produced 3 classic mobster films: Little Caesar in 1931, The Public Enemy also in 1931 and Scarface in 1932. These films were looked upon by many of the country's stricter moralists as a blatant exploitation of sex and violence and great pressure was applied to control their content and to clean them up.
That's when the Motion Picture Production Code of 1930, or the Hays Code, came into play. It caused delays and raised the cost of producing the gangster films, making them less than profitable. By the mid-1930s, things were getting a bit better and the film genre shifted to feature the police and federal agents as the heroes.
With rural bank robbers who had small gangs of their own, such as "Baby Face" Nelson, "Pretty Boy Floyd" and John Dillinger making the news, the FBI agents, such as Eliot Ness, were made the heroes - their names remembered even today.
By the end of the decade, gangster films morphed into film noir. All of the characters were gangsters and there was an emphasis on the crime itself, usually one particular crime, such as in The Maltese Falcon in 1941.
This collection features enough dolls and costumes for you to create 43 different good fellas and their girls.
Included are:
John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) and Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard) Public Enemies (2009)
Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) and Carmela Soprano (Edie Falco) The Sopranos (1999-2007) - Television

Voodoo Dolls Paper Dolls
More Metaphysical & Magical Things
An ancient and extraordinarily unique religious art originating in the steamy tropics of Western Africa, Voodoo has been prevalent right here in the United States ever since the time of the slave trade. With no written text, its folklore - which includes tales of rituals, zombies, spirit possession, sacrifice and high priests and priestesses - is often a source of fascination, inspiration and sometimes - of fear.
The actual practice of voodoo often involves both magic and the casting of spells, generally for benevolent purposes - but beware, evil spells certainly do exist! either way, voodooists never refuse anyone asking for help, and modern Voodoo priests (called houngans) and priestesses (called mambos) often seek out opportunities to help the hungry, the sick and the poor. In doing so, they might recommend a reading, spiritual bath or ceremony, a ritual of snake dancing, special diet, prayer, or offer the ailing individual a gris-gris bag. The gris-gris bag is a magical concoction of herbs, oils, or stones that encourage good health, love, money, prosperity, creativity, or general well-being.
In the United States, the larges population of voodooists practice in New Orleans, Louisiana, where they offer their services to both tourists and the general public.
Inside this paper doll book, you'll find a pair of curious tourists, Jake and Emily, who make their way into a New Orleans Voodoo swamp, where they meet Father Joe and Princess Delphine, a renowned houngan and mambo. The fifth doll is the spirit Gran Ibo, the spirit of the swamp.
Dress the dolls in a series of traditional and souvenir-style attire and add a variety of lively accessories, then display them with the mysterious Voodoo swamp background or the interior of Mambo Blu's Boutique. Each plate is accompanied by a brief caption detailing the inspiration behind the artwork.

Classic TV Moms Paper Dolls
More Mother's Day
In the 1950s, the genre of TV Moms came into being, along with the first sitcoms (situation comedies). A post-war optimism prevailed and weekly TV shows portrayed Mom as the perfect housewife. Even while cleaning or cooking, she dressed impeccably, wearing a string of pearls, high heels and a smart apron. Besides running the household, she offered wise advice to her family.
The 1960s ushered in turmoil over issues such as the Viet Nam War and civil rights. Betty Friedan's writings triggered the movement for women's rights in both the home and the workplace. A few shows featured mothers who juggled a career with childcare. the '60s also saw the start of the large blended family. During the 1970s, gains in women's rights continued. Divorce was seldom mentioned, but domestic dramas now showed single, independent, outspoken moms coping with finances, day care and other challenges on their own (although there was usually a "dependable male" available). With the 1980s, came the desire to have it all. Many TV moms had careers outside the home and needed help dealing wiht their bills and children. Some openly expressed dislike for housework, cooking and domestic tasks, in stark contrast to the 1950s.
The paper doll Moms included are;
Harriet Nelson - The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet Marjorie Lord as Kathy Williams - Make Room for Daddy aka The Danny Thomas Show Jane Wyatt as Margaret Anderson - Father Knows Best Barbara Billingsley as June Cleaver - Leave it to Beaver Donna Reed - The Donna Reed Show Mary Tyler Moore as Laura Petrie - The Dick van Dyke Show Florence Henderson as Carol Brady - The Brady Bunch Shirley Jones as Shirley Partridge - The Partridge Family Esther Rolle as Florida Evans - Good Times Marion Ross as Marion Cunningham - Happy Days Bonnie Franklin as Ann Romano - One Day at a Time Meredith Baxter-Birney as Elyse Keyton - Family Ties Phylicia Rashad as Clair Huxtable - The Cosby Show Katey Sagal as Peg Bundy - Married with Children Roseanne Barr - Roseanne Doris Roberts & Patricia Heaton as Marie & Debra Barone - Everybody Loves Raymond

Vampire Paper Dolls
More Hallowe'en
From ancient lore to new blood: here are all the Vampire Paper Dolls you'll ever need!
Behold the deathless appeal of the vampire, from the creatures of the earliest myth and literature to the popular characters in recent movies and television shows. This colorful collection of 31 paper dolls and costumes starts in biblical times with Lilith and Cain, spans through the ages to include Bela Lugosi in the 1931 classic Dracula and more!
The notion of vampires has existed for millennia, going back to ancient civilizations from China to Mesopotamia. The Hebrews, the Greeks and the Romans all had stories of demonic spirits that could be considered precursors to our modern-day vampire, and the ancient Indian goddess, Kali, who displayed fangs and a necklace of skulls, was linked with the drinking of blood. Many vampire tales that originated in England during te medieval period were similar to later reports from Germany and Easter Europe. In fact, the blood-sucking entity that we recognize today as the vampire had its originals almost exclusively in 9th-century Southeastern Europe. Then in the early 11th century, the belief in vampires had spread throughout Europe.
Vampires are regarded as the undead, compelled to feed on the life force - usually blood - of the living.
This wonderful collection includes:
Lilith - Cain - The Blood Countess - Vlad III (Dracula Sekhmet - Lamia - Kali - Camazotz The Vampire Cat of Nebesima - Chiang Shi 2 Versions of Queen Akasha (Aaliyah) Baobhan Sith - Lord Ruthven The Vampyre (1819) Sir Francis Varney & Flora Bannerworth - Carmilla/Millarca & Laura The Skeleton Count & the Vampire Mistress - Count Orllok & Ellen (Nosferatu) Dracula (Bela Lugosi) - Dracula's Daughter - Vampira Dracula (Christopher Lee) - Blacula - Barnabas Collins (Dark Shadows) Dracula (Gary Oldman) - Lestat de Lioncourt & Claudia - Angel (Angelus) Buffy - Spike - Edward Cullen & Bella Swan (Twilight) Bill Compton & Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood)

He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.
The tradition of the Dalai Lama (meaning Ocean of Wisdom in Tibetan, reaches back many centuries to the first Dalai Lama, Gedun Drupa, whose founding of a monastery and extensive writing on the teachings of the Buddha in the 15th century began an unbroken succession of Tibetan spiritual leaders.
The 14th Dalai Lama (born Lhamo Thondup) often sites a favorite prayer, from the writings of the Buddhist scholar Shantideva, summing up his greatest sources of inspiration:
For as long as space endures And for as long as living beings remain, Until then may I, too, abide To dispel the misery of the world.

Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera Paper Dolls
More Frida
This wonderful collection includes 29 outfits for Frida and 2 complete outfits for Diego as well as 2 additional jackets. The printing is as vibrant as Frida's beloved strikingly vibrant colors of her homeland. The book measures approximately 12 by 9 inches and contains 16 pages of costumes.
Frida Kahlo is an exceptional figure in Mexican history; her relationship with Diego Rivera was, for 25 years, the center around which the outstanding national, artistic, social and political groups of the first half of the 20th century, revolved. However, far beyond her role as Diego's wife, Frida was an artist who made an unquestionable contribution to the Mexican expressive arts; she was also a woman of vanguardist social ideas who held considerable sway over her generation.
Frida carefully cultivated her image; as an adolescent, her short hair and dresses clearly belied her special tastes. Later she began to use regional costumes, above all those worn by the Tehuanas or women of the Tehuantepec zone of Oaxaca, Mexico. Often adorned with flounces, pleated ruffles and beautiful embroidery, these traditional garments would subsequently become her personal trademark. Her distinctive style blended imitation and find jewelry as well.
By using full-length dresses or jeans, Frida sought to conceal her thinner right leg, which, originally a consequence of polio, was worsened by an accident at the age of eighteen. Although Frida was destined to spend her life amid physicians, hospitals and operations, she never ceased to cultivate an image that portrayed her as brimming with life and color.
We can imagine the ritual of her daily preparations before embarking on everyday domestic tasks like taking Diego his lunch in a basket, or sitting to work at her easel. She painstakingly selected her skirt, blouse, shawl, ribbons and jewelry, braided her hair and completed this extraordinary harmony of color form and texture with the floral headdresses that crowned her image for the day.
