From the imaginative mind of artist Michael Sowa, this slightly scary card will surely make you think differently about Thanksgiving! We know there's a message here. This delightful turkey couple is dressed to the nines, having done an errand of their own. They seem to be squeamish, and well they should be with the lurking shadow of human behind them.

Born Mary Louise Brooks, she was a daughter of a lawyer and a quite artistic mother. Her early years were fraught with trauma, with parents too busy to discipline or raise her and a neighbor who abused her. She became well known as an actress of the silent film era, and later became a writer and film critic.

Her distinctive hair cut and her flair for the dramatic on and off the screen have made her legend. This photograph taken in 1928 by Eugene Robert Richee captures all of the dimensions of this complex actress. We love the starkness of her hands and face and are drawn in so easily by those tremendous pearls!

From a series of photographs, artist Danny Matthys has created a collage of sorts of models from different modern times. Although each photo appears familiar, we could not positively identify any one. The artist has applied tints to some of the images in a pattern that makes the eye travel inward, then outward - so tat none is missed.

The individual images are tiny enough that each may be used in miniature artwork, or as images that might be used as photos in a doll house!

Attributable in part to Brazil, Spain and Argentina, and dating back to the 19th century, the tango is generally considered to be based on a folk dance of Argentina called milonga. This was a dance fitted to an old Spanish song that claims Moorish and Arabic ancestry as well as Spanish.

Introduced into North America in the early part of this century, the tango achieved immediate popularity which ahs lasted up to the present day.

It is distinctive and highly stylized The tango atmosphere is much sought after, and attention to styling even in its basic form, will make a great difference in the dancer's appearance and enjoyment.

More Music

Arthur Sullivan (of the famed Gilbert and Sullivan) composed the music for The Lost Chord as he sat at his brother Fred's beside, during his last days. The words were written by Adelaide A. Proctor. Known for its grandeur and eloquence, The Lost Chord is often represented by the young woman playing the the pipe organ with a choir of angels accompanying her.

Seated one day at the organ,
I was weary and ill at ease,
And my fingers wandered idly
Over the noisy keys;
I know not what I was playing,
Or what I was dreaming then,
But I struck one chord of music,
Like the sound of a great Amen,
Like the sound of a great Amen.

It flooded the crimson twilight,
Like the close of an angel’s psalm,
And it lay on my fevered spirit,
With a touch of infinite calm,
It quieted pain and sorrow,
Like love overcoming strife,
It seemed the harmonious echo
From our discordant life,
It linked all the perplexed meanings
Into one perfect peace,
And trembled away into silence,
As if it were loath to cease;
I have sought but I seek it vainly,
That one lost chord divine,
Which came from the soul of the organ,
And entered into mine.

It may be that death’s bright angel
Will speak in that chord again;
It may be that only in Heav’n
I shall hear that great Amen.
It may be that death’s bright angel
Will speak in that chord again;
It may be that only in Heav’n
I shall hear that great Amen

Art Postcard - Maus Mouseholes

From artist and author Art Spiegleman, famous for his graphic novel, Maus: A Survivor's Story, we have this poignant depiction of five mouse huddled within a special hole.

Maus won a special Pulitzer Prize in 1992 as it did not fit any of the classic Pulitzer classifications. The novel is based on many of his father's struggle to survive the Holocaust as a Polish Jew and further how his father's experiences, like those of so many other survivors, reverberate through families and many generations.
