More Postcards
From a series of photographs, artist Danny Matthys has created a collage of sorts of models from different modern times. Although each photo appears familiar, we could not positively identify any one. The artist has applied tints to some of the images in a pattern that makes the eye travel inward, then outward - so tat none is missed.
The individual images are tiny enough that each may be used in miniature artwork, or as images that might be used as photos in a doll house!

Art Postcard - Tango
More Music
Attributable in part to Brazil, Spain and Argentina, and dating back to the 19th century, the tango is generally considered to be based on a folk dance of Argentina called milonga. This was a dance fitted to an old Spanish song that claims Moorish and Arabic ancestry as well as Spanish.
Introduced into North America in the early part of this century, the tango achieved immediate popularity which ahs lasted up to the present day.
It is distinctive and highly stylized The tango atmosphere is much sought after, and attention to styling even in its basic form, will make a great difference in the dancer's appearance and enjoyment.
Now, we can't promise that you'll be able to learn, alas, or teach, the tango with the instructions on this card. But, we can promise that you'll smile!
The footsteps are illustrated and instructions are included!

Art Postcard - The Road West, New Mexico, 1938. Dorothea Lange
More Journeys & Travel
Photographer Dorothea Lange created this enigmatic photograph in black and white. Have you traveled from there or are you about to go there? It's up to you.
The advent of digital photography has allowed us to create art faster and to manipulate images more easily. However, much art is lost when the photograph is digitized rather than developed. The depth of the past translates to the future in such masterpiece photographs as this by Dorothea Lange.

Art Postcard - Fork, Paris, 1928.
Photographer André Kertész created this stunningly simple photograph - with so much expression in such little space and form. The dinner fork placed in balance upon the dinner plate and shadows compose the entire photograph. Is dinner finished? Has the diner simply paused? The slight shadow on the dish and the continued form of the fork carry a sense of future even with the sense that the fork is positioned as thought the meal has ended.
As mesmerizing as it was when introduced, this striking photo might make the perfect invitation for your next dinner party, or, indeed, the perfect thank you for the one you just attended.

Art Postcard - El Corazon
The image is based on the Mexican Loteria image, The Heart. The almost real heart is pierced by an arrow with a drop of blood falling from the arrowhead. This traditional image is often associated with the Sacred Heart as well as with Cupid's Heart. So, we can imagine many reasons for you to send this postcard.
Art Postcard - Are You Ready to Rock?!
More Musical Items
From one of our favorite designers, Stella Marrs, this fun photograph gets the message across - for whatever reason:
ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?!
We think it not tongue-in-cheek, but rather a modern message juxtaposed on a vintage photograph - and, while we may each travel to the beat of a different drum, we're all here together! Great for a party invitation or just a note to a friend, this postcard will bring a smile to anyone who encounters it.

Art Postcard - The Lost Chord
Arthur Sullivan (of the famed Gilbert and Sullivan) composed the music for The Lost Chord as he sat at his brother Fred's beside, during his last days. The words were written by Adelaide A. Proctor. Known for its grandeur and eloquence, The Lost Chord is often represented by the young woman playing the the pipe organ with a choir of angels accompanying her.
Seated one day at the organ, I was weary and ill at ease, And my fingers wandered idly Over the noisy keys; I know not what I was playing, Or what I was dreaming then, But I struck one chord of music, Like the sound of a great Amen, Like the sound of a great Amen.
It flooded the crimson twilight, Like the close of an angel’s psalm, And it lay on my fevered spirit, With a touch of infinite calm, It quieted pain and sorrow, Like love overcoming strife, It seemed the harmonious echo From our discordant life, It linked all the perplexed meanings Into one perfect peace, And trembled away into silence, As if it were loath to cease; I have sought but I seek it vainly, That one lost chord divine, Which came from the soul of the organ, And entered into mine.
It may be that death’s bright angel Will speak in that chord again; It may be that only in Heav’n I shall hear that great Amen. It may be that death’s bright angel Will speak in that chord again; It may be that only in Heav’n I shall hear that great Amen

If you're not happy with the way things are, you can make a difference! That's the message from renowned anthropologist, Margaret Mead, on this wonderful art postcard designed in the tradition of 1960s posters. The illustration and calligraphy by Jody Richards certainly highlight Mead's sentiment:
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed it's the only thing that ever has.

Art Postcard - Privacy
From one of our favorite designers, Stella Marrs, this engaging photograph sets an eerie tone, especially with its warning message:
PRIVACY It's your right.
We think it an odd conduit for such a message - when a postcard is so, shall we say, not private. This, perhaps, says even more - it's our right, but can we expect it?

Art Postcard - Save the Date
More Weddings & Anniversaries
From one of our favorite stationers, Stella Marrs, and designed by Sean Tejaratchi, this mid-20th century photo is reminiscent of a whole other way of living. But, weddings usually do bring a smile.
Save the date... ...and we'll live happily ever after!
This can be a kitschy and frugal way of asking your wedding guests to save the date. We think this would be just wonderful for an anniversary party, as well - especially for one of the milestones - 25th, 50th or 75th!

3D Art Postcard - Hokusai Katsushika - The Great Wave
We love lenticulars - the layered paper and plastics that create a moving 3-dimensional effect. This wonderfully mailable post card features the familiar image of the Great Wave by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai who lived from 1760 to 1849.
He is quite famous for his wonderful wood-cut prints of the Ukiyo-e, pictures of the floating world - everyday life. His works seems to be more popular in the West than it has ever been in his homeland.
His striking image of the sea completed in this new lenticular form is simply spectacular - the movement is amazing. In fact the sea appears to transform into mountains, another of the artists favorite subjects. Although the transformation is hard to notice online, we're sure you'll be as awed by the images in person.

From famed Hungarian-French photographer Brassaï, this serenely beautiful photograph of The Steps of Montmartre, Paris was taken around 1936. Peace Please
This wonderful design from artist Ken Broun features a bit of charming humor while packing a powerful message. With images from a peaceful dove, an ark filled with favorite characters including musical monkeys, clever crows and entertaining elephants, and a pair of ducks in the stormy sea, we're sure there is much more to see than we've described.
This great postcard is ready for mailing or framing.
Art Postcard - Die Abfahrt (The Departure)
This wonderfully moving painting by German artist Quint Buchholz shows us an unlikely trio afloat, a king, a child and a lion. We suspect the time to be dusk or dawn as their craft is lit by a small lantern. They have chosen to bring along a window as well. The seabirds may not even have noticed them. Oh, the stories you might create from this lovely image.

Art Postcard - Le Langage des Yeux (Language of the Eyes)
The meaning of eye color, as interpreted on this reproduction French postcard, is mixed with symbols of luck and love including fish, a shoe, the number 13 (albeit bad luck in this case!0, a little pig, a single die, and anchor, and more!
We surely can't guarantee this to be accurate, but we can enjoy the fun of it.
The translation:
The style of the art is old-fashioned, and the postcard itself is quite a lot of fun!

More Greeting Cards
This sweet card is the size of a small postcard (5-3/8 by 3-1/4 inches). When you push up the frame, the card will pop and stand on its own to create a delicate and elegant nativity scene in three dimensions. This is the perfect card to send to a friend newly setting up housekeeping, when holiday decorating might be overwhelming. Because of the golden foil trim and the embossing, this is truly a special find! Perhaps these will be available again, but we have not been able to find them in a few years! Art Postcard - Your Future Wife
In the style of Arcade Cards of old, this great postcard makes a wonderful prediction. Arcade Cards like these were all the rage in the early to mid-20th century - everyone would just love a glimpse of the future. The comments are always double-entendres, hinting at your love life. So, husbands-to-be, here is YOUR FUTURE WIFE and future child:
YOUR FUTURE WIFE will be an artist. She will like your "profile" and say "yes." You will then become her "model." She is a lover of "still life" but should you forget your "manly graces" and become an "animated cartoon" there is liable to be a "bust." That one little statute of yours may look rather smudgy, but you will love it all the more.
