Vintage Ken Maynard Trick Rope in Original Cellophane Package
More Cowboys and American West
More Vintage Stuff
Believe it or not - this vintage Ken Maynard Toy TRICK ROPE is in its original cellophane package. It measures 11 inches wide and reads:
toy trick rope - with the patented embedded swivel
The packaging is original cellophane (not polypropylene like today's packaging) and it is quite brittle and has a few tears.
The display/instruction card and the rope are in excellent condition - with a fake autograph! Although patent number on the card is from the mid-1930s, we're guessing that the trick is from around 1940, based on how old Ken looks in the picture. With his white cowboy hat, fancy shirt and pair of six-shooters, Maynard appeared in more than 90 films from the 1920s to the mid-1940s before his career was ended by alcoholism.
Trick ropes were sold by a lot of cowboy movie stars around that time period and usually sell for $100 or more. This one is old store stock and was never used.

Cowboy Roping and Rope Tricks
More Books
More American West
We've seen it on America's Got Talent and we've been amazed by it for years - Cowboy Roping! Now this republication of the first (1928) edition, with a Foreword by Will Rogers "Warning!" by Fred Stone; "Advice" by Elsie Janis.
Exhibition rope spinning is a hundred-year-old American sport with strong Mexican roots, born amid the sights, sounds, smells and excitement of the great American West. One of the best of the old-time champion rope spinners was Chester Byers. When he wrote this book, he had behind him twenty years' experience of spinning his rope into rolls, figure 8s and zigzags in stampedes, rodeos, roundups and frontier days all over the United States of America. He has a good way with words, too, and if you'll follow his directions, you'll soon find yourself managing the rope like an old hand.
Besides being a wonderful spectacle, rope spinning makes great exercise, too. Even the first stunts the beginner learns - the Simple Flat Loop, the Vertical Loop and the Wedding Ring - bring into play the muscles of the right and left arms, shoulders, neck, back and legs. More difficult stunts like the Butterfly, Ocean Wave, Zigzag and Roll-over even professional athletes and dancers find real exercise! Practicing these complex stunts will not only keep you in good physical shape, but will sharpen the coordination of hand, eye and body.
In addition to clear written explanations, this book contains plenty of drawings that show you just how to stand, the correct positioning of hands and arms, how to hold the rope and so forth. All the information you'll need to begin rope spinning or improve your skill at it, is here: the best kinds of spinning rope, the type of honda preferable for different stunts, how to overcome typical beginner difficulties such as twists and kinks in the rope, and similar material.
There are photographs of the author, Will Rogers and other great rope spinners; illustrations of the different types of spinning ropes and loads of instructional photos & drawings as well as a list of trick and fancy ropers.
This trade paperback measures 5-3/8 by 8 inches and contains xxiii + 99 pages.

Enamel Red Cloud Pendant
More Pendants & Necklaces
More Native American Indian Items
Red Cloud, known to the Lakota People as Makhpiya Luta was born in 1822. As a war leader of the Native American Indian Tribe of the Oglala Lakota Sioux Nation, he was one of the most capable world leaders of the 19th Century. Until his death in 1909, he continued to lead his people even in reservation life. Red Cloud rejected leasing land to the US Government and remains highly respected because of his conviction and honesty.
This elegant greytone Portrait Pendant of Red Cloud measures 7/8 inch wide by 1-1/4 inch long. Made of vitreous enamel, each pendant is assembled by hand, so please allow for some variability.
Equally stunning as jewelry or as an art element in a shrine or assemblage, this unique piece is conservatively priced for such elegant craftsmanship.

Genuine Vintage Copper Indian Head Cent Buttons
Indian Head & Buffalo Nickel Buttons
Made from genuine American copper Indian head cents from yesteryear, you'll just love these buttons for clothing, book closures, bracelet and necklace clasps and more. These are made from real copper pennies and have a shank on the reverse to allow for attaching to you final project.
Of course each of these is different as they are authentic pennies that have been circulated for commerce, so the wear on each will be different and dates on each vary. They've been highly polished and will be perfect for use right away! Because these coins are no longer minted (they were only produced between 1859 and 1909), they will make any project ever the more special.
We especially love these because of the coins themselves: centered on the front is an engraved Indian head with a feather bonnet. On the band of the bonnet is the word
LIBERTY
- a message of the utmost importance. The Indian head cent is not just collectible for its beauty, but for its historic meaning - at the time it was circulated, it was one of the very few coins that Americans had available to them for transacting business.

It is about the size of a pill box, so you might hold your treasures in it, or, alas, use it for the occasional aspirin as you await your dreams.
Inside is an old-fashioned romance card, reading:
May all your dreams come true.
This makes it seem particularly the perfect gift for a girlfriend who has finally met the man of her dreams - or, of course, vise-versa.
