A full color picture of Santisima Muerte is surrounded by hand knotted cord on leather to make this very distinctive necklace. Some are highlighted with natural threads and others in brightly colored threads. We think that the cord is a bit short at 13-1/2 to 15 inches, but it might suit you just fine. The pendant can be slid onto another necklace or cord if you choose. The leather bail is large enough to accommodate a leather or suede cord, or one you might macramé for yourself.
The pendants vary in size from 1-1/2 inch to 2 inches, most on the smaller side. These are great for assemblage and altered art projects because of the the fine leather and cording work.
We are showing 2 necklaces for variability.

The Santisima Muerte (aka, Saint Death or Santisima Muerte) is a non-canonized saint, however she is highly revered throughout the Americas as a protector and brings luck in love and life.
Santa Muerte might be recognized as a female form of the Grim Reaper, and is sometimes idealized in an unforgiving manner. However, we like the positive reminder that death awaits us all and that we should celebrate productive and well meaning lives. This primitive style charm helps us with that.

This little (measuring only 3 inches high) resin statue of La Santisima Muerte is more that you see at first. Herbs amulets and special charms are sealed in clear resin at the bottom of the statue (see the image on the right).
La Santisima Muerte's (the Death Saint) roots are in the cult of an Indian goddess whom the Aztecs called Mictlancihuatl meaning the “Lady of Death”. She is closely associated with the Day of the Dead and is frowned upon by the Catholic Church, although she is believed by many to be an incarnation of the Blessed Mother, in much the same way as the Virgin of Guadalupe.
La Santisima Muerte is often depicted as a female Grim Reaper. There are three figures that are used in this cult - a white one, a black one, and a red one. The white one is for cures and for luck. The black one is for protection and vengeance, and the most commonly used one is this one - RED - for love spells, for which she is most famously successful.
Some versions of this folk saint have her holding a scythe, like the grim reaper, while others have her holding a set scales. With these scales, she weighs the good and evil of your life. If the good you have done in your life outweighs the bad, Santisma Muerte takes you in one direction, and if the bad outweighs the good, she takes you in the other.
Two statues shown for illustration only.

Embroidered Santisima Muerte Scapular
On either end of a twisted white cord is an image of Santisima Muerte (Santa Muerte) embroidered with shiny metallic thread on ribbon. The ribbon has been sewn to felt for a softer feel. Made in the style of a scapular, each embroidered piece measures approximately 1-5/8 inch by 1 inch.
These are handmade with machine embroidered images. One features a Silvery Santisima Muerte with a red cloak. The other side features a golden Santa Muerte with a silver cloak. From end to end, the entire necklace measures 16 inches and should slip over most heads easily.
The motifs would be great in any altered artwork, or, indeed for a special shrine.

Santisima Muerte or Grim Reaper bead
More Beads
Measuring 1-1/2 inch by 11/16 inch, this highly detailed Santisima Muerte (or Grim Reaper) bead is made of glazed porcelain. It has been crafted to resemble bone and has been antiqued by hand to accentuate the detail in the design and an eerie aura.
It is flat-backed for gluing to a project. But, it also features a stringing hole from side to side right about where the scythe is. The Saint of Death is also holding the scales of justice and what appears to be a sand timer. Standing in front is a spooky night owl.
These beads arrive in assorted colors. There are several colors available, but we're never sure which ones we'll receive from the traditional artisans who make them. We will try to honor color requests, but we cannot promise that the color you request will be available.

Small Santisima Muerte Pendant or statue
La Santisima Muerte is often responsible for love spells in Mexican folk religions, as she is most famously successful at these.
She is also helpful to the deities for the death sorting process of good and evil. If the good you have done in your life outweighs the bad, Santisma Muerte takes you in one direction, and if the bad outweighs the good, she takes you in the other.
Our little statue or pendant is about 3 inches tall with a flat back, which makes it easy to add her to a shrine or tableau. Add a cord to make a simple necklace that should protect its wearer with the powers of La Santisima Muerte
