Old sewing notions and supplies seem to be much more fun than exactly the same items that can still be purchased today. We love the graphics, the label foxing and the overall feel of the older items. Even if we never use them, the old items bring about smiles when we come across them in our sewing baskets.
Such is true of this wonderful old Wrights White Bias Tape. Each vintage package was originally priced at 15¢ and contains 6 yards of linen-white bias tape. We have not opened the packages, so it is very possible that these were originally bright white and that time has changed their color, but we cannot be sure.
The tape is fine percale, single fold and measures 1/2 inch. According to the Wm. E. Wright & Son's Co. package, it is guaranteed colorfast - not to fade. The commercial production of polyester began in the United States in 1953, and we believe these packages to be from just after that.

Vintage Dark Green Gimp Cord
Gimp is narrow ornamental cord or fabric made of silk, woolen, or cotton, often with a metallic wire, or sometimes a coarse cord, running through it. Gimp is an old-fashioned word for a product that might just be known as cord today. It is used as a trim for garments as well as for household décor.
Our dark green gimp is of several varieties, but all contain about 90 yards per spool. Many of the spools we have still have the label intact, but some do not. This batch of cord is in very fine condition although some of the labels show some foxing - especially the ones made of cellophane. Two of the most easily identifiable brands are Raphael and Berkeley. These spools hail from the 1920s and 1930s.

This really cool component appears to be a ribbon of metal mesh at first glimpse. The fun arrives after you start playing with it. It is really a metal wire-knit tube. Be careful, because it is fragile, but it will hold up well overtime as long as you handle with care.
You can create a necklace by adding crimps on the ends or choker clamps, or use your imagination for finishing.
You can pull and shape this mesh endlessly. It begins with a 6mm flatten diameter. You can open it up and put beads inside and it will stretch as any knit tube would. Of course, as you stretch it wider, it becomes shorter. You can knot it between beads or even put some of the beads on the outside. What fun you'll have!
If you change your mind, it is easily reshaped by flattening it out again and pulling on either end.
Mesh can be pulled and shaped into interesting forms. Reshaping is accomplished by rolling and pulling the entire strand tight, however, you may affect the overall length of your mesh by pulling on it.
Mesh arrives pre-cut to a 30 inch length.

Lace tape is so very useful in many applications and this is ever so much more exciting because of the silver metal threads that are woven throughout. Measuring 5mm in width, it is the perfect size for doll clothes and holiday ornaments. In fact you can weave another color of thread, cord or ribbon through the center lacy opening for a very special effect.

We are always searching for new items for your shrines, nichos and memory boxes. We love this ribbon. Each ribbon measures about 11 inches long and 5/8 inch wide. The background color may vary, but most are blue.
There are typically 14 images per ribbon with some plain ribbon on either side. These are a unique adornment for your wrist (just tie it) or hair.
But, our favorite use is to attach to clothing or use in your artwork. or sew it onto a piece of clothing, pillow, etc. These are lovely when framed in charms, too!

Natural Color Simulated Sinew - 20 yard Spool

Sinew is a staple of historic Native American costume and household creations. The original natural sinew was made of the shredded fibers animal tendon. Used as cordage and a tying medium, it is naturally quite strong. It also shrank as it dried, providing a tight seal in any project.
Our simulated sinew certainly resembles the natural animal version. This synthetic version is made of 4-ply nylon cord. It looks and splits like the real thing. Super strong, we highly recommend this product for heavy sewing and construction of craft projects.
If you're thinking of making your own dream catchers, you'll want to use this for the webbing for an authentic look and feel.

This is really hard to find - at least we thought so until now! These black elastics have barbs on either end. Designed to hold on a party hat or a mask, we're sure you'll find many more uses. Each elastic measures 12 inches from barb to bar. To use, created a tiny hole on either side of the mask or hat and feed the barb through the hole. Repeat on the other side. The stretching effect of the elastic will reposition the barb to lay flat - holding the end in place - so much more effective than a knotted end!

What a versatile item! This 3mm (in diameter) chain fits through the 1/8 inches whole in SilverCrow's Military Spec Dog Tags for a perfect keychain.
We recently used these to attach a special card to little bells for wedding favors (sample coming soon!) We've also seen them used to bind small books. Adjust length by cutting with wire cutters between two of the ball links and refastening the connector.
