Such lovely beads as these are made from naturally shed horn. So, you needn't worry that any animal suffered to provide these for us. We purchased these in the 1990s from the individuals who made the bead.
The stripe in the center of the bead is not a stripe at all, it the s the stringing hole! Of course these are all a tiny bit different as they are made individually by hand. Each measures 5/8 inch high by 1/2 inch wide.
The caramel amber color makes the bead almost delicious.

We think the older crystals seemed more brilliant - or perhaps that become that way as they age! We love these tiny vintage glass hearts. Each one measures 7mm by 7mm and they are about 3mm in profile. They are flat-backed with gold foil and the front is smooth rather than faceted.
These can be sewn or, more easily, glued on to your project. We are showing several so that you might see the front and back. You may be able to remove the gold backing, but we have not tried to do this.

Donald Duck rarely finds himself in a good mood - let alone a romantic one! He has flowers in hand and is probably on his way to visit that only woman who could love (tolerate?) him, Daisy Duck.
These are old store stock that have never been used. You might have to maneuver the pin a bit when you decide to wear it. These are pretty sturdy so that should not be a problem. The pin measures 1 inch in diameter.
These are from an old warehouse in Brooklyn and were never distributed. They are in good condition for a novelty from the 1960s.
The pictures are not centered perfectly on any of these, but they were not considered to be "seconds." We are showing 3 examples for illustration only.
Because these are unmarked with origin, we believe them to be made in the USA, but we cannot be sure.

Easy to assemble with just a little bit of glue, this fantastic Classic Winged Heart Shrine will be gorgeous when you've completed it. We like it even without embellishment. But, of course, it will be terrific with paint, découpage, resin or any other technique you might choose to employ.
Included are an optional cross and a crown that you might want to add to your shrine - or, use for something else!
We're showing 2 completed kits - one with the optional crown and cross embellishments and one without them. We couldn't make up our minds which we liked better, so we thought we would show you both.
The shapes have been laser cut and are easy to remove from the base and put together with illustrated instructions.
The finished shrine measures 3-1/2 inches tall by 6 inches wide. The niche (or square opening) measures exactly 1 inch square by 1/4 inch deep - making it perfect for inchies and for adding some extras, like milagros, little people and more. It will work nicely with resin or diamond glaze, too.
There is a keyhole opening in the back so that you might easily hang this on your wall once complete.

Each of these sweet little balls of tatting cotton contains 60 yards. Of course, we've not measured each one, but all of them seem to be complete. This fire-truck red thread is hard to envision from the photograph. It did not matter what color we used as background, the bright, bright red just did not come across.
The label advertises it as boilfast and color fast and indicates that it is 6-cord mercerized cotton.

Small Vintage Antiqued Brass Heart Component with Faceted Turquoise Glass Stone
The detail in this tiny component is striking! The center of the lovely heart features a turquoise faceted glass stone that sparkles. We didn't think this possible from such a tiny glass stone - especially from an opaque one. The stone is held with care by a multi-prong setting that has been riveted to the textured heart base. Spanish-Language Novena Booklet in Honor of Santa Elena de la Cruz

A novena is a series of prayers, attributed to those who celebrate the Catholic religion, that are said over nine days.
This lovely little booklet features a Novena in honor of Santa Elena de la Cruz (aka, Saint Helen, Saint Helena). The booklet is printed in Spanish and features nine days of prayers and many examples.
Santa Elena was the mother of Constantine the Great. Upon her husband's death, her son brought her to his home and treated her as royalty. She used this position in the service of her devotion and helped build churches throughout the Constantine's empire. "Of the cross" was added to her name, as, at the age of 80 she led a pilgrimage to the Holy Land to find the true cross.
There is great devotion to Santa Elena throughout Mexico. In fact, there are even spells from the local folk religions that celebrate Santa Elena. These spells are primarily love spells.
There are 16 black and white pages, that show some yellowing inside the bright white cover. These are lovely for prayer as well as for artwork that may involve a tribute. The booklet measures 4-3/8 inches by 3-1/8 inch and is stapled once at the spine.

Such sweet little valentine boxes as these are still made, but not so nicely as these. Each is made of cardboard and features a satiny fabric top with a touch of padding. You'll know that these were once red - just because of their shape and style. Now some of them have faded with the years, but they are ever so darling, too, just because of that!
Each box is in good vintage condition, with some fading of the fabric and some discoloration of the original white lining inside box. There are some slight aging issues, but we love how that one makes each one special.
Most are marked, Made in Japan and some have the original price (10¢ or 15¢) stamped on the bottom. The box measures 2-1/4 inches by 2-1/2 inches by 1 inch deep.

Large Tin Sacred Hand (heart in Hand) Milagro or Ex Voto
We are particularly fond of this large tin milagro or ex voto because the image traverses many cultures.
Having been produced in Mexico, it is traditionally called a Sacred Hand (La Mano Sagrada). The sacred image is also found in Hindu symbolism.
The Shakers of the Northeastern United States, use a similar image to represent their motto: Hands to work, hearts to God. The Oddfellows, a service organization with origins in the United Kingdom, include the same image with some additional symbols. And the Amish communities also use the symbol.
Each of our milagros is hand made of tin: cut and pressed in the traditional manner. So, please allow for slight variation. Each one measures (including the hanging loop) 6-1/4 inches high by 4-1/8 inches wide.

First, these tin ornaments are cut and then hammered. Well, sometimes they are hammered and then cut. The hammering creates the embossed design within the ornament - the heart, the flower and the little leaf.
This heart features a sunflower. The sunflower was treasured by the Incas. In examining the relics of their culture, many jewelry disks and religious items feature images of sunflowers. Many indigenous Native Americans (both North and South) sprinkle sunflower seeds on the graves of their beloved ancestors. The sunflower is not only beautiful, but many parts of it are life-sustaining and can be used as food.

Handmade Puffy Flying Heart Ornament
Gorgeous ornaments like these can only be made by hand. Created from clay, wood and papier mâché, each is different from the next because of the craftsmanship.
The hearts may be blue, purple, pink or another bright color and wings are vibrant and accented in glitter. The central heart measures 1-7/8 inch wide by 2 inches long. At the top center of every heart is a hanging loop.
Wingspan is 5-1/4 inches. The wings are adorned alike on both sides. On each heart is a central flower accented by leaves and filigree and a touch of sparkly glitter. Such painting is in the colonial style and is treasured world wide. It is interesting how this manner of painting resembles North American tole painting as well as Central European folk painting, bringing the world closer through shared artistic styles. The heart back is a solid color.

Gorgeous Vintage Aquamarine Glass Intaglio Cabochon of the Taj Mahal
This lovely transparent aquamarine glass intaglio cabochon features an image of the Taj Mahal that has then been highlighted with a silver foil application. The piece measures 11/16 inches on all sides and features faceted rounded corners. The depth of the piece is just a smidgen over 1/4 inch. The image is lovely on either side, but glorious on the aqua side, which would normally be considered the top, which is smooth. The underside has been cut to create the intaglio and then foiled with silver for the reflective effect.
The Taj Mahal is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the world by all cultures. Built as a memorial and mausoleum for the third (and favorite) wife of Shah Jahan in Agra, India, the building took over 16 years to complete. Mumtaz died during the birth of their 14th child, Gauhara Begam. The grounds and out buildings took another 5 years to complete.

Long associated with deep and everlasting love, the Taj Mahal has become endeared to many around the world.
Intaglios are engraved, pressed or incised into gemstones or glass. The design is carved or pressed into the surface, and sinks below the surface. It is the opposite of a cameo - where the background is carved away, leaving the design as a relief on top. Intaglios have been made since Babylonian times and were used in printmaking as well as in jewelry.
Two intaglios are shown to illustrate front and back.

Tiny Heart Nicho
Sometimes the larger nichos are just too big - especially if you want to add to an assemblage or other mixed-media artwork.
Our flaming corazón nicho is really more like a little frame. The glass window is heart shaped and holds a picture about 1 inch overall. But, with some patience, other mementos can be added in the slot, similar to a standard-sized nicho.
You can paint, decorate or collage the frame/nicho, but it is quite elegant all on it's own. There is a antiqued copper patina that has been lightly lacquered for effect. The opening is in the back - just flip up the little metal closure.
This hand-crafted work of art has been individually made by a Mexican artisan the tradition of years of tinwork. Please allow for the variation that handwork promises. Each piece measures about 3-3/4 inches high by 2-1/4 inch wide.

Glove Shaped Nicho Frame with Heart Window
If you just want to frame a meaningful quotation, or the picture of your beloved, you might not want to use a traditional nicho. Because this lovely tin piece features a shallow area for your additions, this might be just the perfect nicho frame for you. The glove shape represents protection and concern - as though you are holding your memory in your hand. And the heart window expresses the love with which you treasure what is inside.
A self-loop on the back will help hang this lovely frame on your wall or you might even choose to add it to a larger shrine. The tinwork is very lovely and deeply embossed for a special look. Pink Feather Tree
Old-fashioned spun cotton mushrooms have graced Christmas trees, corsages and other items for decades. These lovely amanita mushrooms are created of spun cotton and made by the same family business that made the vintage red and brown mushrooms we offer. The company has really gone out of business, but agreed to make some of these gorgeous pink mushrooms especially for the American trade.
These new stock mushrooms measure about 3/4 inch from the bottom of the stem to the top of the cap and could very easily pass for the vintage ones as the technique is exactly the same.
The pink caps are hand stained to look real (if there really are pink mushrooms, that is). They are are highly lacquered and are dotted with little white spots - just like the real mushrooms! The stems are wire wrapped in light green paper.
These pretty mushrooms might really be toadstools, not to be eaten in the wild - and, our spun cotton version should not be eaten either! It is rumored that Santa's reindeer pranced around in a flying frenzy after eating these little beauties, allowing them to help Santa travel throughout the world and deliver presents.
Maybe the Easter Bunny had his eye on these, too! Why else would he start passing out eggs?
Amanita mushrooms are considered good luck in many cultures, especially in Germany. You'll often see them pictured with gnomes, elves and fairies in children's literature.
We love them for St Valentine's Day projects. Wouldn't they be stunning on a Pink Feather Tree?

What a perfect way to show your love: with an anatomical heart charm. We found it quite interesting that this little charm also resembles a pierced heart milagro. It reminds us that Cupid might send his arrow inside and out!

This is not the famous photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt on V-J Day (August 14, 1945) in New York City. But, it might well have been. Much of the pose is the same, only the background is different. It may have been taken by Eisenstaedt himself as one of a series, or it might have been a photo by a passer-by taking the same shot from a slightly different spot. In any case, we're not sure if the subtle difference is as important as the messages of the day: Victory, The War is Over, Peace.
There are so many reasons to use such a postcard - a save-the-date for a military wedding, a valentine, a message of peace, a memory of the year, the day, the generation.

We were excited to find this Silvery Nickel Wedding Milagro. Each milagro is hand-made and is approximately 1-1/2 inches wide by a bit over 2 inches tall.
Small Vintage Plastic Orange or Coral Heart (or Leaf) Cabochon
We have always been celluloid and plastic fans here at SilverCrow. There are ever so many possibilities. Especially fun are the flat-backed cabochons like this cool little orange heart. We were torn between calling this a heart or a leaf, because the edges are more leafy, but upon closer examination, it appears to be a heart. Either way, it's quite nice.
Each of these measures 9mm from top to bottom and 8mm from side to side. The profile (thickness) is about 3mm. They are flat-backed for easy gluing. The ridges catch the light, making them even more perfect for your artwork. Make a quick pair of earrings buy gluing posts to the back, or use it in a plastic collage. There are so very many possibilities!

Valentine Cuties Dresden Ornament
This wonderful heavy-weight red Dresden base is just what you need to create old-fashioned paper ornaments for Valentine's Day, Christmas or any other occasion. Add a little scrap picture with a dab of glue to the center (or even a Victorian-style sticker), maybe a few pieces of angel hair or krausbouillion and you'll create a brand new heirloom!
The base of the ornament measures about 3-1/4 inches in diameter (from one point to the opposite). The loop on top is for hanging and adds about 1/4 inch more. This striking Dresden is metallic red on both sides and is weighty enough to be the base for a complex design.
The embossing on these reliefs is superb. These are made in the same fashion as they have been for many, many decades! Some trimming is necessary, just as it was for the originals.

Milagro Hearts Woodblocks

Hand carved woodblocks have been the traditional means of printing in Nepal for centuries. Even today, prayer books in Himalayan Buddhist monasteries are printed from such blocks.
Handheld tools are carefully used to cut the designs out of "sisau", a type of cedar. Lokta paper handmade from the bark of the Daphne tree is traditionally harvested so that the tree may regenerate.
To print, simply press your woodblock onto the inkpad provided (or one of your own). Then on a padded surface (for example on a pile of newspapers or several layers of cloth), place a piece of lokta paper and firmly press the woodblock. Gently rock the block in all directions to achieve a clear print.
A description of the hearts and milagros accompanies the set, too.

Smashed Penny Good for a Hug and a Kiss!

Coins like these have many names, but our favorite is smashed pennies, aka elongated pennies and pressed pennies. The first elongated penny was created for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus during 1892-1893. There are some who believe that there were such coins produced earlier, but the experts have singled this celebration as the beginning.
A smashed penny is is made by forcing a penny (or other coin) through two steel rollers. There is an engraving on one of the rollers (sometimes both sides). A crank (mechanical or electronic) forces the coin through the rollers and squeezes it with extreme pressure. This smashes the coin from round to ...you guessed it...elongated. The pressure pushes the engraving into the penny at the same time it is smashing it.
We've been collecting these since we were children, and now our grandchildren collect them, too. Made from shiny pre-1983 pennies, there is a higher copper content than if created with today's pennies.
This special little penny will make your sweetheart (present or potential) smile, for sure. It reads.:

From new old stock, we have a stapled booklet of 48 Valentine silhouette stickers - 6 different designs on each page. These Presto Stick® self-adhesive stickers. These stickers are vintage, although the same patterns are made today.
These stickers are from Eureka, a classic holiday decoration company. We expect that these are from the late 1980s.
These are VINTAGE stickers and the adhesive is probably not as good as it once was. Use caution when removing them from the booklet and, if the adhesive is less than perfect, please add glue or use an adhesive applier (like a Xyron). We found it easier to peel the background off around the stickers rather than the stickers!

Los Mestizos Mini Shrine - Loteria Heart
Are we ever excited to offer you this exceptional mini shrine! We keep a similar one atop the computer - and we can't imagine what chaos we'd find without it so near. Each Mini Dashboard or Computer Shrine was created for us by Los Mestizos - the world-famous Chicano folk art team of Kathy Cano-Murillo (The Crafty Chica) and her husband Patrick Murillo.
Each mini (about 2-1/2 inches high and 1-1/2inches wide) shrine is made from a tiny box (may be just about any sort) set atop a small base. You can add some velcro to the bottom so it will sit tight on your dashboard during crazy rush hour traffic. This simple but elegant shrine features an image of an anatomical Heart, with the words El Corazón underneath, from an embellished Loteria Card.
Hopefully this will protect you from crazy drivers and slippery roads! Or, position one in your office or private space for special moments of contemplation and serenity.

Vintage Valentine Mailer Scrap
Made right here in the SilverCrow Studio, our sweet Valentine ornament is made of new and vintage German and other imported components. Our Valentine mailer scrap is from the early 20th century. The krausbouillion is new, but made in the tradition of vintage metal crinkle wire. We've stretched the wire and made a lovely accent from it that sets our little love letter carrier apart!
A perfect addition to your Valentine decor, or, you might even want to add this sweetie to your special Valentine's gift for an extra surprise!

This charming old-timey moving Valentine will certainly please the receiver - but it will be hard for you to part with it. The little gypsy card reader sends her message to your Valentine. Handmade Mini Tin Heart with Blank Banner
Our larger heart with banner is so popular, that we were delighted to find these mini ones! These wonderful heart banners are just fabulous for presenting a personalized gift. Simply create your own personal message in pencil on the banner and then complete it with a marker or paintbrush. There is a little pin built in on the back of the heart as it was originally designed as a brooch. But we like to use them in making shrines, nichos, etc.
It is really difficult to see the three-dimensional effect of this wonderful piece. It measures about 3 inches from top to bottom and about 2-3/4 inches across. Of course, each is different, as each is hand made one at a time and the style may vary slightly from the one you receive.

Golden Dresden Ornament Base
This wonderful heavy-weight golden dresden base is just what you need to create old-fashioned paper ornaments for Christmas, Valentine's Day and more. Add a little scrap picture with a dab of glue to the center (or even a Victorian-style sticker), maybe a few pieces of angel hair or krausbouillion and you'll create a brand new heirloom!
The base of the ornament measures about 3-1/4 inches in diameter (from one point to the opposite). The loop on top is for hanging and adds about 1/4 inch more. This lovely Dresden is golden on both sides and is weighty enough to be the base for a complex design.
The embossing on these reliefs is superb, as is the cutting. These are made in the same fashion as they have been for many, many decades!

Heart ID Tag or Bracelet
Our Heart ID Tag is golden metal, with a 3/4 inch x 1-1/4" double heart plaque. The total length is about 6 inches. We like to remove the chain (keep it for another project of course!) and use the plaque as a tag on all kinds of artwork. Alcohol-based inks and dyes work best, but try anything. We've also used metal alphabet punches to indent special terms of endearment on the double heart.

YOUR FUTURE HUSBAND will be an aviator, a high flier and a champion parachute jumper. No use taking your roller skates or mad money when you go joy-riding with him because you can't get out and walk. If he should go into a "tail spin" you can pull a "side slip." You should wear a parachute because he will keep you up in the clouds most of the time, but you will be happy with your two eaglets.
Vintage Lenticular "Winky" Lips
We've always enjoyed lenticular (winky, blinky, flicker) images - especially the vintage ones. We were just so very excited when we found these vintage Vari-Vue lenticular lips that vary from a smile to a kiss!
Use them for your art dolls to ad a kitschy flavor to them. Or just collect them like we do! Lenticular images like these (3d composition screens) were made a bit differently during the mid part of the 20th century - providing what we think is a much better 3D image.
The colors of the printed image are amazingly vibrant considering that these winky lips are almost a half-century old!
Our sample photo doesn't do our lips justice - the variation is delightful as the smile turns to kiss, or, of course, the kiss changes to a smile!
