These are sprigs made of real goose feathers - the same way they were made in the early days of holiday decorating! Each is handmade from dyed goose feathers. The feathers are applied individually in the same manner as in 19th century Germany.
These were designed and created for Sandy Elliott, who pioneered in recreating vintage Victorian Christmas items for display and for crafting. Alas, her business no longer exists, but we were fortunate enough to be able to obtain some of these wonderful sprigs before she closed. We recently rediscovered them and are proud to offer them to you. These are still made by other manufacturers, but we were quite taken by these.
Each sprig is just about 2 inches long and 1-1/4 inch wide with a 1-1/2 inch stem and is finished with a berry tip. This Victorian Cream sprig sports a matching berry at the tip, just like those of old.
Now you can reproduce all of those wonderful Victorian Ornaments. Let Santa carry one as a miniature tree. Combine some reproduction Christmas Die Cuts with some stretched Krausbouillion and one of these sprigs, sprinkle on some mica (a little glue helps!) and voilà - a Victorian ornament.

This brand new ribbon has the look and feel like a vintage counterpart. It is an off white, almost eggshell with dark taupe images printed and spaced nicely. Each of the individual motifs are delicately printed and feature a Victorian style label or image.
The first is a sweet girl with her flowers. The next is a facsimile of a label for les Galeries St-Martin in Paris. The last is a White Clover Honey label reproduction.
The images are about 1-3/4 by 1-1/2 inch but can be trimmed if you please.
We are offering this by a repeat of the three images illustrated in our photograph - one of each image all connected. Yours will be cut to order all in one piece. Each repeat is about 7-1/2 inches and will be cut on the bar that is between the motifs. The ribbon itself is 40mm wide (a bit over 1-1/2 inch).
It has a silken or rayon feel, but we suspect this to be a cotton-polyester blend. It was not marked when we received it.

Shoe buttons were the norm in the Victorian era - when shoes were all laced or pulled through a button hole to close!
This set of 5 shoe buttons will vary in color and size. The largest ones (for men's shoes) are about 1/2 inch in diameter and the smallest ones (for children's shoes) are between 3/16 to 1/4 inch in diameter. Some are a bit smaller or larger and there are all sizes in between. All of them feature rear shanks, making them perfect for use as regular buttons or jewelry components.

This simple alternative to technology might amuse and educate both young and old. Scrap albums like this one were quite popular in the 19th century through the early 20th century. Some folks made their own albums out of old periodicals or books. And others bough machine made ones such as this.

The door is simple and held by the rolled tin closure that is typical of the traditional nichos. It is traditional and modern at once. Vintage Cameo Necklace on Glass pearl Rosary Chain

Our little cameo charm is vintage, but we're not really sure of the age. We're guessing it's from the 1970s or 1980s. The cameo features a frosted opaque silhouette of an elegant woman with the classic Victorian updo. This sits upon a jet-black cabochon. The entire piece has been set in a scalloped brass charm setting that has been coated for protection from patination.
We don't think the cameo is real shell or mother of pearl, but it resembles it closely. We believe the cameo to be resin or plastic, but it's certain a great imitator of glass, because it was hard to tell.
We've hung the charm from a single glass pearl on a glass pearl and golden link rosary chain.
The chain measures 18 inches and features a gold-plated screw-type barrel clasp. Including the upper hanging loop, the charm measures 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch.

The pleasures and practicalities of hand lettering as practiced in Victorian times - in the workplace, in school and at home- were aided by Vere Foster's Copy Books. This, the tenth of eighteen titles originally offered, provides wonderful examples with 31 carefully-prepared variations of the alphabet.
Originally published in 1890, it still addresses the fact that
"Writing is almost as important as speaking."
Each page offers the examples with directional arrows on some, as well as lightly-lined areas for your practice. Or, indeed, use this as a unique journal.
Just like the copy books of old, it is paperback and contains 24 pages (measuring 16 by 21 centimeters).

Originally the adornments were made from the actual blossom - which was then dipped in wax to preserve the petals and leaves. Of course, most specimens have long since disappeared. The ones that have survived have found their way into antique markets - and at a very precious price!
Our newer blossoms have actually been molded from vintage specimens - and using modern technology, have been made to duplicate the original bouquets in texture, color and form, making them virtually indistinguishable from each other. They give the appearance of natural blossoms being dipped in was - and, at first touch, you'll suspect they are made of wax.
Whether for a bride, for every day wear or as a millinery accent, our orange blossoms are sure to evoke the warmth of an era long past.

Arthur Sullivan (of the famed Gilbert and Sullivan) composed the music for The Lost Chord as he sat at his brother Fred's beside, during his last days. The words were written by Adelaide A. Proctor. Known for its grandeur and eloquence, The Lost Chord is often represented by the young woman playing the the pipe organ with a choir of angels accompanying her.
Seated one day at the organ, I was weary and ill at ease, And my fingers wandered idly Over the noisy keys; I know not what I was playing, Or what I was dreaming then, But I struck one chord of music, Like the sound of a great Amen, Like the sound of a great Amen.

This large die cut Santa Claus is absolutely gorgeous. Heavily accented with glitter sparkles as real snow, he carries a small tree and a purse full of toys. His cloak is made of crepe paper which covers snowy white batting, accented by tiny golden cords. From head to toe, he measures about 12-1/2 inches, and 4 inches side-to-side.

The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary gives the meaning of the word flirt as 'to play at courtship.' Perhaps some will regard it as a more frivolous past-time, though George Elliot put it rather well 'every man likes to flirt with a pretty girl and every girl likes to be flirted with.'
This little 108-page book measures 10.5 by 13 cm and is loaded with delight from cover to cover. It was first published in 1848. This facsimile reproduction brings the original work to life as it was originally published! The illustrations by Gavarni, Gilbert and Henning are worth the price alone! Full of anecdote, suggestion and song, with tales from notorious flirts, this might also be considered a how-to manual for flirting - not just the history!

We've seen kits to make hand fans before, but they already had the paper attached - and it wasn't always the type of paper we wanted to use. Now you can make your own hand fan with these great sticks made of bamboo! And, you can make them out of just about anything that you can glue or sew to wood.
This hinged set of 10 inner sticks plus the two larger outer sticks were designed for the millinery trade to mount lace for Victorian-style fashion or even for display. These are designed for a 6-inch wide fabric, lace or paper (rice paper is especially nice and usually arrives on a roll - you might even choose to use wallpaper!
The 12 sticks pivot from the bottom so that you can fold your fan closed. The pivot is a pin with a loop and ring on one side for attaching the fan or for carrying.
