Vintage Chenille Squirrel
More Vintage Items
More Ornaments and Such
We love chenille and these little squirrel boys are one of the reasons why! Old store stock figures like these are few and far to find, so we are full of ourselves when we find them. Each is sitting on a scalloped cardboard base, so they were probably birthday cake toppers or something of the kind.
Each little fellow measures about 4 inches tall with a hand painted spun cotton head. We think he is holding a spun cotton nut, but it doesn't look like an acorn.
Each one is in pretty great condition considering the age. We suspect they are from the 1950s or earlier. The chenille is a bit flat from storage and there is the occasional spot or crease in one of them. We've added a bit of paper grass and placed each one in a plastic display box, making him ever the more special!
None of these have been used for their intended purpose and they were together in a group when found.

Brown Amanita Mushrooms
Old-fashioned spun cotton mushrooms have graced Christmas trees, corsages and other items for decades. These lovely vintage amanita mushrooms were created of spun cotton back in the mid-20th century and are in wonderful condition. These old store stock beauties measure about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the stem to the top of the cap.
The red caps are hand stained to look real. They are are highly lacquered and are dotted with little white spots - just like the real mushrooms! The stems are wire wrapped in green paper.
These pretty mushrooms might really be toadstools, not to be eaten in the wild - and, our spun cotton version should not be eaten either! It is rumored that Santa's reindeer pranced around in a flying frenzy after eating these little beauties, allowing them to help Santa travel throughout the world and deliver presents.
Amanita mushrooms are considered good luck in many cultures, especially in Germany. You'll often see them pictured with gnomes, elves and fairies in children's literature.

One Gross of Vintage Plastic Zoo Animals
More Vintage Stuff
More Animals
More Grabbags
Originally a Shredded Wheat premium, this zoo full of animals hails from the 1950s or 1960s. On the back of each of the animals is the animals name. There are all kinds here: bears, wolves, birds, elephants and more! Each bag contains an assortment of a gross (144) individual plastic pieces. Each assortment is different.
Some of the animals come in several colors. These were originally intended as some sort of learning toy. On the back of each animal is the name molded into the plastic. When we inspected them all, we expected to find one animal for every letter of the alphabet, but no such luck. Not quite all of the letters were represented. But you can rest assured that you'll get a good mix!
Most of the little critters stand nicely on their flat bases. There might be a few that need a touch of trimming to stand properly. The back (except for the name) is flat. The front of each character is 3-dimensional and nicely detailed.
At less than 18¢ each, these are a bargain. We've seen them on eBay in smaller groups for much, much more!

Vintage Red Clay Poker Chip
More Stuff for Collage & Assemblage
The Dennison Company from Massachusetts is responsible for so many wonderful vintage items. This poker chip is made of clay and then painted with several layers to indicate value. This particular chip is red and features an inner concentric circle, and within that a four-leaf clover. These illustrations are created in pressed relief - when each chip is created.
These are standard chip size and hail from the early- to mid-20th century.
It would be pretty hard to play poker with only one chip, so we're suggesting that you use this for the base of a brooch or pendant or other collage or altered assembly.

Vintage Car Trouble Game
More Toys & Games
What fun! This game is called Animated Funnies Featuring Willie the Worm and Sammy in Car Trouble. The pictorial paper envelope is a delight in itself! But, to top it off, it contains easy to assemble punch-out pieces. The back of the envelope contains instructions for assembly.
"Willie and Sammy in their little car Go out for a ride but can't get very far. A tire goes flat and the motor goes dead and the bull near the fence begins to see red! "
The envelope shows some wear around the edges but otherwise is in pretty good condition. The cardboard punch-outs inside are uncut and in close to perfect condition. These games were found in an old grocery store closet in Tampa, Florida. They were from around the mid-1940s and were originally priced 10¢ each.
Willie the worm went on to become one of the first TV characters and he had his own show (The Willie the Worm Show) airing between 1950 and 1954 when he was reincarnated as a puppet worm with glasses.

Vintage Medicine Box - Heal-Aseptic
More Boxes and Bags
We love old boxes - to collect and to give away. We especially enjoy boxes like this to use for collage or assemblage. But, more than anything, we like to package gifts in these. Our friends have come to expect fun gifts in vintage boxes.
This Vintage Heal-Aseptic box measures 2 by 2 by 5 inches when it is "assembled". It arrives flat and is pretty easy to put together.
The front and back of the box reads:

Heal-Aseptic is a Scientifically prepared Antiseptic
Since 1918, we have used Heal-Aseptic in treating hun- dreds of cases, for which we recommend it, and Heal-Asep- tic has always proven effective, safe and harmless.
Heal-Aseptic gives a Neutral Test to Litmus Paper.
Keep a Bottle on Hand Always
We found it interesting to note that even the name of the product is breakable (with a hyphen). With today's technology, such graphics would probably never printed as such.
This exceptionally well-preserved box is shipped flat for you to make - just like in the early 1940s when it was made.

Vintage Box of Glattolin Collar Wax
During the late 19th and the early 19th century, gentlemen's white collars were starched stiffly for a very formal look. The starch often chafed the back of the gent's necks. So, collar chafing wax was created to help. This great little box - pretty nifty all by itself, is an original - with the original wax fully intact inside. Glattolin, Glettoline, Glättolin, Glattolina - the name is listed in 4 languages on the sides of the box, so this must have been a popular product in lots of countries.
The graphics feature a gentleman preparing his collar with the wax before attaching the collar to his shirt. It was commonplace for the collar to be separate.
Inside the box is the notched wax block along with an instruction sheet that features some additional advertised products from the same company.
The box measures about 1-1/2 inch square. This is nice unused old store stock from around the 1910s and it is in great condition.

Vintage Key
We found a bunch of old keys on a rummaging mission through old flea markets, so we scooped them up. We love them for collage and assemblage - especially with the worn patina. So, we didn't clean any of them, but we did bag them so that they won't dirty your other stash of collage materials.
The sizes vary as do the metals, so please allow for variation. Twelve keys are pictured to illustrate the different possibilities.

Vintage Navy Blue Gimp Cord
More Things for Tying
Gimp is narrow ornamental cord or fabric made of silk, woolen, or cotton, often with a metallic wire, or sometimes a coarse cord, running through it. Gimp is an old-fashioned word for a product that might just be known as cord today. It is used as a trim for garments as well as for household décor.
This spool of vintage gimp is Raphael Brand and hails from the 1920s or 1930s. The label indicates that it is to be used for knitting or crocheting, but we love to wrap small packages with it! It is made of rayon and cotton and there is about 90 yards per spool. Many of the spools we have still have the label intact, but some do not.
The laundering instructions: Was in warm water with white soap.

Each one of these vintage picks features a great poker hand: 4 aces - king high! If only you could use them in a real game. These vintage picks are easily taken apart, so that you can use the card hand in your artwork. We ask that you don't use these on food, unless you replace the toothpick with one of your own - they were unwrapped when we found them. We're sure that a similar item is still manufactured, but we love the vintage items like these.

Vintage Ken Maynard Trick Rope in Original Cellophane Package
More Cowboys and American West
Believe it or not - this vintage Ken Maynard Toy TRICK ROPE is in its original cellophane package. It measures 11 inches wide and reads:
toy trick rope - with the patented embedded swivel
The packaging is original cellophane (not polypropylene like today's packaging) and it is quite brittle and has a few tears.
The display/instruction card and the rope are in excellent condition - with a fake autograph! Although patent number on the card is from the mid-1930s, we're guessing that the trick is from around 1940, based on how old Ken looks in the picture. With his white cowboy hat, fancy shirt and pair of six-shooters, Maynard appeared in more than 90 films from the 1920s to the mid-1940s before his career was ended by alcoholism.
Trick ropes were sold by a lot of cowboy movie stars around that time period and usually sell for $100 or more. This one is old store stock and was never used.

Vintage Crepe Paper Psychedelic Stripe Streamers
More Streamers & Banners
We love crepe paper - and not just for streamers. Make bows and flowers, cover nut cups, make ornaments. The possibilities are endless.
And, on top of that, this is VINTAGE crepe. The psychedelic colors give away the age as the late 1960s or early 1970s. This crepe roll was produced by the Dennison company, well known for their home arts papers and other supplies for decades. Dennison has since merged with Avery office products to become Avery Dennison. So new quality Dennison craft and art products are no longer available.
The striped roll features slanted vertical stripes in blue, deep pink, tan, and green. Each roll measures 2 1/8 inch by 25 feet (636 square inches). Just imagine a sixties or seventies party with favors made from this crepe! It originally sold for 25¢ cents a roll and is in very good condition. The Dennison sticker remains on each roll, but is a little loose on some of the rolls we have in stock. There is some modest wear (from storage) on the outside of the roll, but that makes it even more appropriate for your vintage projects!

Vintage French Sequins in Seafoam
These enchanting sequins are unused old store stock from the 1920s and 1930s. These are flat sequins that measure 5mm in diameter. We had planned on selling them by the strand, but because these are original bundles, we thought it better to leave them intact for collectors.
Warning: In bunches, these have an unpleasant scent. Early plastics like these sequins often contained formaldehyde and other unpleasant additives. Once separated, the scent dissipates and the sequins are in fine condition.

Vintage World War II US Army Overseas Service Stripes
More USA Items
Service stripes are also known as hash marks or bars in the US military. They are presented to enlisted service members to denote length of service. Each of these bars (or stripes) were used to commemorate 6 months of overseas service during World War II.
These authentic gold stripes are unused and backed with buckram, commonly used to stabilize the felt cloth for embroidery. The felted material is what appears to us to be an army green/brown over-dyed wool.
We were fortunate to obtain a length of them, so we will cut them to order. All stripes you order will be in one piece as pictured in the illustration.
Five stripes are illustrated above, denoting 2-1/2 years of overseas duty. These were awarded in recognition of time served, regardless of the type of service. A soldier need not have served in actual combat to receive stripes.

Dr. Pierre's Hygeiaforms in Original Box
This vintage 5-inch wide diamond-shaped box was sold around 1890. Inside is an extremely thin spongy material - that was was supposed to be used for feminine napkins. By today's standards, the napkins are small and super thin (be careful separating them). These original stock full boxes are in great shape and you'll find that even the bottom of the box is outlined in metallic gold. The top of the box is decorated with graphics stylish for its time and reads:
Dr. Pierre's HYGEIAFORMS Dr. Pierre Chemical Co. CHICAGO, U.S.A. TRADE MARK REG. U.S. PAT. OFF.
Dr. Pierre's granddaughter found a supply of these that he used to sell. Interestingly enough, these came in plain cardboard cases which were unusual for the period (most items came in display boxes). We're sure that this is because such discreet items as feminine products, were kept under the counter where they could not be seen.

Rare Vintage Tinfoil Tinsel from US Zone Germany

These fantastic lametta hails from US Zone Germany from the 1940s or 1950s. The packages are intact, but show their age. The icicles themselves are in fine condition and can be used for your holiday décor, or of cores in your artwork.
The folded paper package is labeled:
Brilliant Ice Lametta Tinfoil Tinsel for Christmas and other decorative purposes. Made in US Zone - Germany
After World War II, Germany was divided into Four Zones. The Soviet Zone later became East Germany. And the three other zones (US, British and French) combined to become West Germany. Immediately after the war, however, the zones were managed, or occupied by the different nations. During this time, German manufacturers were banned from exporting goods to the United States and some other countries.
American authorities permitted the sale of toys and holiday decorations, as long as they were marked:
Made in US Zone - Germany
'The controlled districts and the manufacturers within were regulated during 1946 and 1947. Even though the regulation was lifted in 1947, the same tooling for the manufacture was used, so some items produced in the early 1950s may bear the same markings.
US Zone items are not as well known as those made in Occupied Japan, but they are of the same ilk and are highly treasured when found.

Vintage Ektachrome Slides
Back in the 1950s and 1960s, many an evening was spent with family watching vacation slides. For some this was boring, for others, sentimental. Most keepsake photos have now been moved to more modern media and slides have slipped into history for the most part.
We have acquired a selection of slides, most from the same studio and most of landscapes and buildings (although a few of people and animals are in the group). The two in the picture are representative of the lot, but each grouping is different. Most read on the border:
EKTACHROME Brown Photo Co. Minneapolis, Minnesota
Some have numbers scribbled in the corners and others have words written on the frames.
We think these are great, not only for the conversations they may start, but for the artistic possibilities for your artwork! Slides, by their nature, are transparent, so they lend themselves nicely to collage and assemblage . They are also small, so they might prove to be just what you need for that special collaged jewelry piece.
You might even want to write a story about your fantasy vacation, using these to document the time!

Vintage Carnival Prize - Bird Whirler

More Birds
Wow! This large (10-inch long) bird is made of cardboard and feathers. S/he was hand painted and has chopped up cellophane for hair! This great little pink, white and blue bird was probably originally red, white and blue. But, it's just as cool in its faced glory.
Each bird is attached to a wooden stick by a long string. Holding the stick, you swing the bird around your head and the bird will fly and make a squeaking noise. These are vintage, so please allow for some variation in color and expected wear.
Although it is not marked, we suspect that this fun toy was made in Japan. It is in great condition for its age, having been from some time around 1950. They were found in storage in the Columbus, Ohio warehouse of a carnival distributor.

How very delighted we were to have found a box full of these wonderful bottles. Each measures 4-1/4 inches high by 1-3/4 inch wide and 7/8 inch from front to back. The top lip boasts a spout. In fact, on the bottom of the bottle, the molded glass reads:
NON DRIP REG USA
and in a little pennant triangle logo, the company name:
PERFCO
The back of the bottle is softly rounded and the the front is flattened, so that you can easily apply a label, if you like. At the top of the label area are molded characters. These vary from bottle to bottle. The illustrated bottle reads:
3 I I
There were no corks in the bottles when we found them, but we thought we'd add one for a nice touch. You can certainly easily remove the cork, if you choose.
These would be great for homemade concoctions, assemblage artwork or whatever your imagination provides. Consider adding beeswax or sealing wax to the cork for a medieval feel!

Vintage Lenticular "Winky" World Peace Through Understanding
More Lenticulars Peace Through Understanding Lenticular
The colors of this wonderful little lenticular are certainly reminiscent of it's era - the 1960s! It was made to become part of a souvenir of the 1964-5 New York World's Fair. The advertisement features the Unisphere - the symbol of the fair that was made of steel - hence the logo USS from United States Steel.
It is in superb condition and is marked Vari-Vue on the back, further verifying its authenticity. Such items are also called flashers, flickers, wiggles, animation or winky pictures.
The front has an exciting effect as you'll see two pictures on each flicker, depending on the angle when you view it. The words
SOUVENIR of the NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR ©1964 - 1965
change to a picture of the World Unisphere with the words
New York World's Fair ©1964 - 1965
Even thought this little novelty was created in the 1960s, the message is just as timely today. This wonderful VariVue Motion Lenticular piece measures 3/4 inch square.
Two pieces shown for illustration only.

Authentic Vintage Authentic German Spun Glass Tail in 2 Sizes
We at SilverCrow were lucky to find a source in German for real, vintage spun glass components so that you can create Victorian style ornaments for Christmas, Valentine's Day, or just because you want to make them!
These pieces were made by hand in a factory in Lauscha, Germany well before World War II. They are certainly elegantly crafted by highly-skilled artisans who were undoubtedly proud to work.
Spun Glass is a form of fiberglass, so it can be irritating and is not recommended for children. And, even though these are in excellent shape, because of the age of the pieces, we suggest you be quite careful when using them for crafting.
These tails are traditionally used when decorating glass ornaments to make birds - these becoming the tail feathers! They are also great as skirts for princesses, Belsnickels and witches.
Two sizes are available:
LARGE Tail - about 3-1/2 inches long
SMALL Tail - about 2-1/2 inches long

Vintage Plastic Watch Crystal in Original Paper Envelope
New Plastic Watch Crystals
Mineral Watch Crystals
Each of these plastic ROCKET CYLINDER watch crystals is packaged in a little orange envelope with all kinds of information on it. The number of the crystal as well as the watch brand that it fits are listed along with a little drawing of the crystal inside. As far as we know, everyone of these is different. They are from a watchmaker's estate and were used for fixing broken crystals on watches.
The envelope measures 1-3/4 inch square. The crystals inside depend on the the watch and are all different sizes and shapes.
On the back flap of the envelope is the Rocket Crystal Trademark in an old-fashioned diamond logo:

Vintage Scrap Valentine Cuties Ornaments with Krausbouillion
Vintage Valentine Cuties Scraps
Krausbouillion
Made right here in the SilverCrow Studio, our sweet Valentine ornaments are made of new and vintage German and other imported components. Our Valentine girl and boy scraps are from the early 20th century. The krausbouillion is new, but made in the tradition of vintage metal crinkle wire. We've stretched the wire and made a lovely accent from it that sets our little love letter carrier apart!
A perfect addition to your Valentine decor, or, you might even want to add one or both of these sweeties to your special Valentine's gift for an extra surprise!
