Adapting necessity to art, traditional basket-making techniques are used to make these wonderful little pots or bowls. Artisans use recycled posters from printing companies. First they make long flat strips of paper, dipped in glue - then dried. Then, after the strips dry, the artisans wet them again form them into useable shapes, like this little bowl with a lid. It is all held together with the glue as the strips are coiled. Sturdy household items are the result.

The brightly colored random patterns are derived from the shapes and the contents of the posters used, so you may see some printed words on yours, too.

We were particularly enchanted with this little piece as it is made of two pieces. You might use them together as intended, or, better yet, use the lid as a small dish for wrapped candies or the like.

The pot measures about 5 inches in diameter at the top and about 3 inches on the bottom. It stands a little over 3 inches high. The lid sits down in side the bowl, but if standing alone, it sits about 2 inches high.

Each bowl is different, not only because it is handmade, but, because the paper strips are never the same from item to item. So, please let SilverCrow choose one for you.

The basket measures between 1-3/4 and 1-5/8 inches high and is tapered, with the larger end (about 1 inch in diameter) open on top - ready for you to fill with chenille goodies, or even the real thing - candy! Vintage Fixaco Throat Confection Tin

We love little vintage tins hailing from the 1930s. We just love the name FIXACO and the little guy on the top! Measuring just 1-5/8 inch wide by 1-1/8 high and about 1/4 inch deep, they are perfect for those little items on your workbench or studio table. And they can be used in any assemblage as well. The lid slides off, so you might convert one into a pocket shrine! These show their age with a few tiny scratches, but the colors are vibrant and, overall, they are in great condition.

Each vintage container boasts the same graphics and writing. On the top it reads:

This wonderful Peruvian-style Drawstring Pouches measures 3 by 5 inches. This detail-woven pouch is unique and is sure to stand out from other pouches. Each pouches is made in a remote mountain village deep inside China. The people of the village are using traditional skills to support their small village. Producing these pouches is the villages only method of income. Each family is paid per pouch produced. There is no factory - everyone works at home.

Because of the size, and the shoulder-length braided strap, it makes a nice little handbag when only a card and some cash are necessary. Or, use it to package a small present.

Want a fancy bag at such a reasonable price! Jewels and beads hanging from a golden fringe on a sheer, metallic fabric bag shimmer as they move.

Each bag is closed with two thin metallic double pull cords knotted at the ends with a bead. Beads and jewels are plastic and the bags are a bit delicate. Pull gently on the beads on the pull cords or you may pull them off.
