Originally sold in the Five & Dime stores back in the 1920s and 1930s, this very special pressed glass charm was made in Japan. It measures about 1/2 inch long (not including to little metal loop) and about 3/8 inch wide.

The color in the glass is slightly variegated, but the main color of each charm is a lovely bright green. Most of the charms are similar to this one. Even the string is original (the color of the string may vary from the one pictured).

These are new old stock - never used. We even found them in the original box marked Made in Japan. These were manufactured as a novelty - perhaps for a little girl's charm bracelet, so please allow for some variability.

This set of two reproduction documents appear to be made of antique parchment. In reality, they are paper that has been aged to look as though they are really old.

The first is a replica of a menu for the first class passengers for a 10-course meal. This aged parchment replica features a meal full of savory delights such as roast squab (pigeon) and Waldorf pudding.

The second is a reproduction of the stock certificate issued by the International Mercantile Marine Company (owners of the Titanic) in the amount of ten shares before the Titanic’s fateful voyage.

Each of the documents measures 14 by 16 inches. They arrive together rolled in a protective sleeve

We have searched high and low for a wonderful Day of the Dead Ofrenda to offer to you. And, we finally found one!. From the little wooden table to all of the offerings, everything is hand made and hand painted.

Each table is painted a different color, making the one you receive even more yours! The table top is trimmed with lace and covered with an assortment of foods, skulls, candles, dinnerware and holy pictures. You might consider adding a miniaturized photograph of your ancestor to the table as well.

The entire piece measures 3 inches high (including the offerings). The tables, because they are hand made, vary slightly in size, but they average around 4 inches long by 2-3/4 inches wide.

Although the design is similar, each of the individual pieces varies slightly due to the nature of hand-made folk art. And the items on the table may differ slightly and may even be placed a little differently. We had a hard time choosing which one to photograph as they were all so wonderful!

Basalt is an igneous (now, remember your Geology Class) rock formed when a volcano erupts. These gorgeous natural lava cube beads are created from a milk chocolaty or grey stone, then they are waxed for preservation and to smooth them. Natural basalt is rough to the touch. Once the stone is waxed, it appears to be black, but is probably more like an extremely dark grey.

Each bead is completely different from the next due its natural origins. There are visible holes and bubbles that create a superb tactile sensation. Jewelry made from these beads will be touched a lot.

Each oval measures 24 mm by 18 mm (and is about 6 mm thick). The drilling is through the length..

Stunning in its simple complexity, our Raven Girl Pendant has been hand carve in bone. The beautiful woman's hair turns into a raven's feathers (or, might it be the other way, or both?) The variation in color is a natural feature of the bone. We think it adds to the beauty of the carving, giving it a depth that a single tone would not allow.

The bail is sterling silver and can accommodate a larger chain or ribbon. There are so very many possibilities for this pendant! It measures 3 inches long. The bail adds another 1/4 inch. At its widest, it measures 1-1/4 inch.

Leapin' lizards! Were we ever excited to find these wonderful old Little Orphan Annie pins. We think they are made of celluloid or bakelite. Though not advertised as such, we've performed the standard tests and expect that they are.

Each measure 1-1/2 inch from her chin to the top of her curly hair and 1-1/4 inch wide. When we discovered these they were all attached to canvas, so we left them on the material for you.

The back of the pin is glued on. So, we're not really sure if this motif was originally meant to be a pin or not. We suspect these to hail from sometime mid 20th century.

Because you're never fully dressed without a smile, if you're in a bad mood, just put this pin on and let Annie smile for you...we're sure that will engender many a smile from those you meet.

Wow! This large (10-inch long) bird is made of cardboard and feathers. S/he was hand painted and has chopped up cellophane for hair! This great little pink, white and blue bird was probably originally red, white and blue. But, it's just as cool in its faced glory.

Each bird is attached to a wooden stick by a long string. Holding the stick, you swing the bird around your head and the bird will fly and make a squeaking noise. These are vintage, so please allow for some variation in color and expected wear.

Although it is not marked, we suspect that this fun toy was made in Japan. It is in great condition for its age, having been from some time around 1950. They were found in storage in the Columbus, Ohio warehouse of a carnival distributor.

These are really fun! You've just gotta try one!

Vintage Horseshoe-Shaped Tobacco Tag

We bought these from someone who declared that her 97-year-old grandfather told her that his mother used to chew tobacco and she saved these horseshoe plug tags.

These tags were used around the early 1900s to mark plugs of tobacco - tobacco for chewing. Around that time, it was made by pressing cured tobacco leaves together in a molasses-based or other sweet syrup. This was a hand-on process. Customers would cut, or even bite off, a piece of the plug to chew.

Tags like these were used to identify the plug manufacturer. Although many such tags bore the name of the tobacco grower or producer, these do not. Most of these are quite rusty. The points bend under to attach them to the tobacco, or of course, to your project! Some of the points are bent backward already, so please be careful - the points are sharp!

The filigree stampings that surround the oval resemble leafy wings. These lightweight metal stampings can be cut with scissors, but we like them just they way they are. Of course you can turn it around to create an upright frame if you like.

Consider using this as a mat within a frame instead of regular mat board. This is also a nice component for a very special wedding favor or bridal party gift. Each frame is hand stamped and cut by artisans who created the designs.

But, for those projects that seem impossible because you just can't situate everything, this handy-dandy tool may just fill the bill. It clamps onto any flat surface (such as a table-top), and handily clamps your fabric or other item that has to be held - leaving both of your human hands free to work on the project.

The original tools were called bird and clamp as the device for holding the fabric was cleverly shaped as a bird, it's beak holding the project. We found this design much more useful (albeit, more industrial looking) as it enables the project to move or swivel while you work, if necessary.

Originally published in 1917, this little book is loaded with interesting information. Both the first and last several pages are filled with advertisements for the original publisher's other works, such as Cold Meat and How to Disguise It and Keeping Rabbits.

This little instruction manual might convince you to change your profession to one of Fortune Telling. The illustrations are both telling and artistic and the instructions are clear, yet dated (of course) in vernacular.

We are coaxed within by the back cover description:

The foretelling of past and future events by the reading of hands can be traced by to the Ancient Egyptians. This book gives an in depth study of what information can be gained from hands. From "hints to parents and guardians" to "choosing employees and domestic servants." Making in all a fascinating read even for the most sceptic [sic] of readers.

This little paperback is a facsimile reproduction of the original manual. It measures 18 by 11.5 cm, 144 pages with 15 illustrations.

This cool little lock is New Old Stock (NOS) or Old Store Stock. It was meant to be sold at an old-time variety store that went out of business. None of the ones we have in stock have ever been used, hence the description, New Old Stock or Old Store Stock.

THESE ARE VERY HEAVY, STURDY LOCKS. The locks show little or no wear and there is no rusting. These are not novelty locks. They are strong and sturdy. All lock bodies are brass and stamped with the word DATSUN.

The keys are also stamped DATSUN. The lock body measures 1 inch by 1 inch and appears to be made of brass (golden metal). The lock loop adds another 5/8 inch and is made of silvery steel. The keys are silver. Each lock comes with at least 2 keys, sometimes three as shown.

Imagine using one as a pendant or using them to lock up treasure boxes or some other kind of assemblage or altered arts.

Oh! The possibilities for these great lenses. Each box of 3 dozen lenses is from the late 1940s or early 1950s. They were made in Japan originally for use as the lenses for sunglasses. But, they are perfect for use in jewelry and assemblage.

Because they are glass, they are fragile, but they are not delicate - we've not broken any yet. The convex shape is great for covering a secret in an assemblage or collage. These are the darkest lenses we have - but, they are still transparent. After all, they are sunglass lenses.

These dark smoke lenses are 53mm at their widest and 63mm long and they arrive in their original packaging. We have not opened all of the boxes in order to preserver their vintage value, we are not sure if they are complete and unbroken. But, in the sample boxes we opened - all were present, individually wrapped and intact.

At less than 18¢ each, you'll be able to complete several projects with these great glass pieces. They also make great collectibles for anyone in the optical professions!

Measuring from the bottom of her broom to the front brim of her hat, our little witch is about 2 inches. from side to side, she measures about 1-3/4 inch. But she doesn't seem so big. We think it's because of the unique components She is made of molded plastic and then distressed richly, making her scarier than ever. Her little broom is made of horsehair fibre, which adds another eerie effect.

Because of the positioning of her broom, she looks best flying left to right. Although she is reversible, her broom is more prominent as pictured. Her other profile is less distressed.

This well known symbol, seen worldwide on ornaments, jewelry, T-Shirts and more, is the Hebrew word for living - Chai. It is a combination of the two Hebrew letters Cheit and Yod.

As with any symbol there are many interpretations. Our favorite is that this simple symbol represents the importance of life. The symbol is specific to Jewish culture, but it has been slipping into other cultures easily. The well-know Jewish toast l'chayim means to life. The numerical representation of Chai is 18, so gifts to charity are routinely given in multiples of 18.

This wonderful nicho houses the brave and the beautiful (a strong man, represented with a knife and his love, a beautiful woman). The figures inside the nicho are hand-sculpted and painted. The nicho itself is hand made tin, and then it is hand painted with brightly-colored details.

The words at the top vary (either El Valiente y La Dama or El Valiente y La Catrina). There are some other variations as well, each is more interesting than the next! It measures about 8 inches wide by 8 inches tall.

Oh, wow! Were we ever excited to have found these! These are so very special - they were made in the 1940s and were usually include with a figural balloon, like a clown or Santa or even a Disney character. They were actually mentioned in the June, 1951 issue of Mechanix Illustrated.

This little cardboard gizmo looks just like a pair of clown shoes. The die-cut cardboard is charming in its simplicity. And, the instructions are printed right on the item itself:

Now the fun begins. Once the balloon is placed in the shoes, you toss it up and wow! it lands on its feet. The simple physical dynamics make it work.

These enchanting sequins are unused old store stock from the 1920s and 1930s. These are flat sequins that measure 6mm in diameter. We had planned on selling them by the strand, but because these are original bundles, we thought it better to leave them intact for collectors.

We absolutely love this color because of the mottled dusty tonal qualities of the blue. Oh, how many wonderful things you can do with these. But, of course, they will look wonderful just to sit amongst your other sewing and art supplies.

Believe it or not, calcite is the most common mineral next to quartz. But optical calcite - now, this is special, and, of course, less common. It is much like a rectangle - but, not quite - it looks as thought it were stretched. Each stone is clear with a special icy luster.

Now the fun comes when you place an object behind it - the object will appear to be double! This is because rent indices of refraction of light that defines optical calcite. This stone is sometimes called a TV Stone because of the refracting nature.

Optical instruments often feature flawless specimens of optical calcite. Of course, the pieces we're offering are not flawless, but we're sure each piece will generate lots of fun and conversation! Pieces measure from 1/2 to 1 inch on each side.

Four little Day of the Dead Pall Bearers transport the coffin of a friend (who, by the looks of it, is not yet ready to depart this world. This tiny procession even includes a flowery wreath with a banner. Lots smaller than our larger funeral, this little vignette is made of traditional hand-made clay and plaster and then hand painted..

Just like the rest of our Day of the Dead Figurines, each of these scenes is hand sculpted and painted by traditional artisans in Mexico. The pall bearers are each made separately and are about 2-3/8 inches high. The entire piece measures 3 inches from front to back and 2-5/8 inches from side to side, and - depending on the position of the departed, the height is about 3-1/2 inches.

The gentleman vary slightly (height, ties and demeanor) as does the deceased and the coffin and wreath, due to artist variation. Please let us choose one for you.

We had elves like these hanging on our Christmas trees back in the 1950s. Were we ever happy to find these reproductions to offer to you! Each little elf is made of a real pine cone that has been dusted with glitter and faux snow to look more wintery. He's holding a tiny bottle brush tree in one hand and ringing his festive bell with the other.

His face is made of real paper pulp, his arms and legs are vintage-style chenille and the fuzzy beard is made of spun cotton. He's about 5 inches high and 3 inches wide - if you position his arms differently you'll be able to add or subtract a bit of width.

Each is all glittery and can either stand on his little circle of snow, or hang from the attached golden thread.

Although these are mass-produced items, they are each made by hand - and are even hand painted! We fell in love with this little fellow and thought you might, too.

We love old labels and this one is extra special. The skull and crossbones symbol indicates that this is a poison. The vintage label is printed in red like most pharmacy labels from the early 20th century. The back of the label has a gummed backing indicating a water-moistened adhesive. Now we don't suggest that you lick these to adhere to your project as we're not sure of the origins or content of the glue. You can use any water-based glue to adhere it to your project. Or, if you dare, dampen the adhesive lightly with a well-squeezed sponge (don't use too much water!) and hope for the best!

Plastic Nursery Rhyme Plaque - Jack & Jill

See Saw Margery Daw Plaque

This vintage 1969 nursery rhyme wall plaque measures about 8 inches wide by 5-3/4 inches high. Jill and Jack are running with their pail as a couple of bunnies and a bird look on. It is made of light blue hard plastic and includes the Jack and Jill Nursery Rhyme:

Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water;
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after.

This is old-store stock, unused and in great condition. The poem and the characters are raised from the plaque and are highlighted with golden accents. These were manufactured by Invicta Plastics and have lots of detailed information on the back regarding Invicta's company and locations. Some of these have the mounting tabs on the back that may or may not still be sticky. They were originally used to mount on the wall in a child's room - and would look great in a shadow box frame for a nostalgic touch.

There are so many sources of origin claimed for the Jack and Jill rhyme, that it is hard to know which is true. Many nursery rhymes began as satirical poems regarding the politics of the day. Still others were meant tell the stories of history to children, modified to help soften the harsher news.

Some say that Jack and Jill is the story of the beheading of Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette. Others insist that it was modeled after a fairy tale about 2 childhood friends in Norway. And still another associates it with the British monetary unit, gill, and the jackpot that ensued for the country.

Iron Pyrite is a crystal that usually forms as a cube with striations on each face, or side. Sometimes it is found in larger pieces and as course granules. But, it is usually found in little nuggets, just like gold. As a matter of fact, it is often found near gold deposits. Because of its golden color and proximity the the real thing, it is often mistaken for the much more valuable gold. So, it is known as Fool's Gold.

Its brassy yellow color might resemble gold, but its other physical properties are very different. Pyrite is harder, less dense, and more brittle than gold. If you strike it with steel, it produces a spark. It leaves a greenish-black streak while gold leaves a golden-yellow one. Because it is often found near gold (and copper) deposits, if you find some, you may be nearing a deposit of the real thing!

Iron pyrite is used for its high sulfur content and is mined for that reason worldwide, as it is quite common.

Now this is NOT the reason that this company made the yARTstick, but what we like to do with it is saw it up. There are tons of fine are paintings already on wood. So, saw them apart, add a bail, and voilà you have a pendant or charm, or a dollhouse painting, or, whatever you can dream up!

By the running meter - the yARTstick presents, in four-color prints, highlights of 2,000 years of painting history. It allows you to tell at a glance that though the themes have barely changed, their manifestations certainly have. This wooden ruler features illustrations and a measuring stick in centimeters and millimeters.

On the yARTstick, the history of painting of the last 2000 years is depicted in 58 selected pictures. The selection process has yielded a mixture of world famous as well as lesser known motifs, which together express the most important themes, techniques and temperaments. The line of images illustrates the development through the centuries: From Roman funeral art and mosaics in the first centuries AD, through works of Islamic, Chinese and Mayan art, into the Renaissance and on to the modern era. Details of eyes and hands are recurring motifs throughout the two millenniums.

On one side of the yARTstick, folding ruler are the pictures. Adapting necessity to art, traditional basket-making techniques are used to make these wonderful little pots or bowls. Artisans use recycled posters from printing companies. First they make long flat strips of paper, dipped in glue - then dried. Then, after the strips dry, the artisans wet them again form them into useable shapes, like this little bowl with a lid. It is all held together with the glue as the strips are coiled. Sturdy household items are the result.

The brightly colored random patterns are derived from the shapes and the contents of the posters used, so you may see some printed words on yours, too.

We were particularly enchanted with this little piece as it is made of two pieces. You might use them together as intended, or, better yet, use the lid as a small dish for wrapped candies or the like.

The pot measures about 5 inches in diameter at the top and about 3 inches on the bottom. It stands a little over 3 inches high. The lid sits down in side the bowl, but if standing alone, it sits about 2 inches high.

Each bowl is different, not only because it is handmade, but, because the paper strips are never the same from item to item. So, please let SilverCrow choose one for you.

This gorgeous shelf mounts easily on a wall (but it's heavy so mount it well!) From bottom to top it measures 33 inches. It is 17 inches wide. Each of the 2 shelves is 14 inches deep. An indentation on the top shelf allows you to place something that needs stabilization without, such as a dish or other display item. The cross on top is removable, but we think it gorgeous as is.

The shelf is in original condition - without refinishing. The patina is superb. There are some minor blemishes from normal usage. The shelf is from a 1913 Lutheran Church in Donora, Pennsylvania. We have seen similar shelves sell for over $600.00.

This elegant folder of games was a favorite amusement during the 19th century was the creation and deciphering of rebus puzzles. The word rebus is Latin for by things. A rebus is composed of pictures that suggest the syllables of the word they represent.

Hieroglyphical Signatures is a reproduction of a mid-19th century rebus series created by J.T. Hart. Saraswati, is usually dressed in white. She is the well-loved Hindu goddess of knowledge, music and all the creative arts. She is also know as the the Vedas' Mother. She is also the goddess of speech. She is beloved especially by women as you holds the female spirit of Brahma and is the goddess of forgiveness and truth.

Saraswati holds a prayer mala and a scroll made of palm leaves (a symbol of knowledge). She usually rides a beautiful bird - most often a swan or peacock while she plays, indicating knowledge. Saraswati usually rides a swan and sometimes a peacock, while playing music on a large stringed instrument called a veena.

Included in each kit is a lovely incense burner, fragrance, incense and a lovely Saraswati charm.

Our enchanting little bouquet of flocked paper forget-me-nots is reminiscent of those special decorations of the 50s. These tiny paper flowers arrive in a bunch which can be easily separated so that you can use the individual blooms. There are about 8 little bunches of about 5 flowers each. Add a brooch pin to the back and you'll have the perfect corsage for springtime and summer gatherings.

SilverCrow's bouquet is a mélange of pastel colors featuring pinks, blues and a touch of yellow and cream in some of them. We fell in love with this special bouquet as it reminded us of flower embellishments from our early years. You'll be delighted with the special care taken in making these diminutive buds.
