These pretty mushrooms might really be toadstools, not to be eaten in the wild - and, our plastic version should not be eaten either! It is rumored that Santa's reindeer pranced around in a flying frenzy after eating these little beauties (the real ones, that is), allowing them to help Santa travel throughout the world and deliver presents.
The little red mushroom caps dotted with white give a magical feel to any project.

This reproduction of an antique scrap is new, but in the tradition of Victorian scraps and die cut ornaments of old. Our Santa Claus, or Belsnickel, is dressed in a traditional blue coat with fur trim and is carrying a pretty tree and lots of toys to the next house he plans to visit.
Created as a gift tag, it is still perfect as an old-fashioned ornament or as an addition to your holiday artwork. Use a bit of mica or glass glitter and you might even fool someone into thinking this is an old one. The sweet die cut is made of lightweight cardboard rather than paper, so you might even add an easel backing for stand-up display.

These are simple to decorate with paint and glitter, flocking, fur or foil. We especially like to use red candy-maker's foil because it is so fine that it makes the boot look quite realistic (for shiny red snow boots anyway)!
Boot containers such as these became quite popular in the 1920s and 1930s, decorated with Victorian scraps and Dresden trimmings. Add a hanging loop at the back of the boot and display it on your Christmas Tree!

The image of Maria and Child is an embossed and die cut chromolithograph scrap. This double-sided ornament is accented with tiny golden Dresden embossed and die-cut stars on a spun glass circle base. The entire piece is mounted on a spiral wire, giving it the strength to stand tall. The circle of glass measures just over 6-1/4 inches in diameter. With the spiral, the piece measures 9-1/2 inches high and will top any tree with grace.

What a silly Santa Claus, with only a head! This charming Saint Nick is created with a resin face with a truly old-world-style feel. His cap is made of aged chenille in creamy white and forest red and his long beard is pressed cotton.
Use him as is as an ornament by simply affixing a hanger through the loop in his cap. Or, create your own special Kris Kringle by using the ornament as a doll-head. From the bottom tip of his beard to the top tip of his hat, Santa measures 3 inches and from side to side, he is just over 1 inch.
The flat back makes a nice gluing surface. Just glue him to a crepe paper rosette and you'll have a very, very special adornment.

These reproduction antique scraps are new, but in the tradition of Victorian scraps. Each of the scrap pictures are pre-trimmed, making them ready to use on any project. They are lightly embossed, just like the vintage ones! Both Gretel and Hansel measure 6 inches high.
These light weight paper scraps can easily be attached to a card to make a delightful gift tag, or an old-fashioned ornament or as an addition to your holiday artwork. Use a bit of mica or glass glitter and you might even fool someone into thinking these are truly vintage.
Hansel and Gretel are often associated with the Christmas holiday because they are pictured eating gingerbread - also a Christmas tradition in the Germanic countries.
From a fairy tale drawn from the Brothers Grimm, Hansel and Gretel eventually lived happily ever after. Their terrible journey begins with their mother (or step-mother in another version) coaxing their father into abandoning the children in the forest, because there was no money to feed them. The children created a trail of pebbles so that they could find their way home, but eventually became lost. They were lured to a witch's gingerbread cabin by candy and other treats. The almost-blind old crone decided to bake and eat the children, but alas, Gretel tricked her and coaxed the witch into the oven. The traditional Christmas Carol is said to have religious meaning, each line indicating something about the Christian religion and its traditions. For example, the two turtle doves are said to represent the Old and New Testaments; the doves being symbols of peace and the peacefulness of the Bible's word. This interpretation has been all but forgotten, and the song has come to represent the spirit of generosity at yuletide.

Old-Time Red Bottle Brush Wreath with Decorative Accents
Sweet ornaments like these were all the rage in the mid-20th century. Made from a material that resembled bottle brushes, these ornaments have become known as bottle brush ornaments. This sweet red one is deeply colored to appear as though it has already aged. It features a velvety poinsettia and little silver and green balls scattered throughout. A golden twisted cord peeks out from the top for hanging on an indoor door, a window or even your Christmas tree.
The wreath is about 4 inches in diameter and a bit over 1 inch thick.

Measuring a slight 1 inch, our little plastic Santa Claus charm might be mistaken for an Elf. All dressed in red with a snowy white beard, he's waving either hello or good-bye, or, perhaps he might be signaling the other elves to begin their work!
Rather than a traditional loop for hanging, his little cap hooks over into a loop, making him even more special. He can even stand on his own because of the precise molding and trimming.
These little guys are created by a small family-run company in Germany. Skilled artisans, using old-world techniques and plenty of time, have been creating these miniatures for more than 70 years. The exquisite quality of these miniatures comes directly from the workmanship of the molds and tools used to create them.

We had elves like these hanging on our Christmas trees back in the 1950s. Were we ever happy to find these reproductions to offer to you! Each little elf is made of a real pine cone that has been dusted with glitter and faux snow to look more wintery. He's holding a tiny bottle brush tree in one hand and ringing his festive bell with the other.
His face is made of real paper pulp, his arms and legs are vintage-style chenille and the fuzzy beard is made of spun cotton. He's about 5 inches high and 3 inches wide - if you position his arms differently you'll be able to add or subtract a bit of width.
Each is all glittery and can either stand on his little circle of snow, or hang from the attached golden thread.
Although these are mass-produced items, they are each made by hand - and are even hand painted! We fell in love with this little fellow and thought you might, too.

Our vintage Santa Claus set were produced in the mid-20th century by traditional German artisans. Long known for their attention to detail and and precise workmanship, such craftsmanship has become the standard to which others aspire. Their design skills were just as admirable. Trimming a holiday tree became prominent during the Victorian times, and spun glass angel's hair or fairy's hair like this was on of the favorites then as it is now! It adds a touch of elegant whimsy to any display - especially when there are electric lights. The soft glow of the cloud-like hair enhances any lights - either white or color.
Still handmade in the traditional manner by a family company, each bag contains 15 grams of non-inflammable super-fine spun glass fibers. Although such spun glass hair is available from other sources, the German spun glass angel hair is truly curly hair. It does not compress easily and will stay curly. Use it as you would tinsel for special effects.

Antique Santa Scraps from L&B

These old German scraps were produced by Littauer & Boysen (L&B), who stopped making scraps in 1920. We're not sure of their exact printing date, but we do know they are almost 100 years old - at least!
This set of 18 Santa faces features several different images. Some appear to be the same, but at closer inspection, you'll see slight variation. Each head is a bit different, but the average size appears to be about 5/8 inch wide by 1-3/16 high.
You'll find the quality of the images to be superlative. The paper weight is a bit thicker than the reproduction scraps made today. The die-cutting is so finely executed that you can almost tear these apart, but we suggest that you trim them with delicate scissors (such as scherenschnitte scissors). The detailed embossing is amazing as well.

Bleigießen - A German Fortune Telling Tradition

We just love the different traditions throughout the world. New Year's Bleigießen is the Austrian and German custom of pouring molten lead into water and reading the results as though they were tea leaves - so that you can foretell your next year. When the hot lead touches the water, curious shapes are formed.
Reading the shapes a big chunk of the fun - it's almost like reading the clouds in the sky! For example, if you find a ship or boat, perhaps you are destined for a long journey, probably by sea.
Each set includes:
* 5 hollow lead figures * 2 golden bonus pieces * 1 melting spoon * directions in German (we'll include the directions in English) * meaning chart in German (we'll include our own list in English)
Just place one of the lead pieces on the spoon. Hold the spoon over a candle. Once melted, pour the lead into cold water. Now the fun begins! Determine what the melted lead resembles and interpret the fortune with the chart. It is also the custom to hold the lead figure a candle and interpret the shape of the shadow it casts. After all, what happens in the new year and your knowledge of it are important matters!
The pieces to melt contain 87% lead, and are not suited for the use by children of 14 or younger. Adult supervision is a must. Please use in a well ventilated area - like outside. Lead is toxic if ingested.

IN Germany and other European countries, Advent, the four weeks before Christmas has been observed for many years. The word advent means coming and is a time to contemplate the coming of Christ.
The Advent calendar is still another German custom, one that has been carried over to North America. Some calendars are large Christmas pictures with twenty-four small paper windows cut into them. Every day, children (of all ages) in the family open a window to find a little picture of an angel, a toy, a candle, etc. and when the last window is opened, it shows the nativity symbolizing the birth of Christ.
Today there are also many non-religious calendars available and combinations of the two, often featuring both Jesus and Santa.
This wonderfully large die-cut wreath is a very special Advent Calendar. It resembles the large die-cuts available in the Germany years ago. The expert cutting and superb embossing make this ever the more special. And, right in the center is a large red fabric bow (this may need a little fluffing on arrival).
It is made of sturdy hard paper and measures about 15 inches wide and about 16-1/2 inches high. It will make a lovely wall or indoor-door decoration for the holidays.

And, on top of that, this is VINTAGE crepe. This is just what you need for making reproduction Christmas ornaments. Using the real vintage stuff makes them look and feel authentic. This crepe roll was produced by the Dennison company, well known for their home arts papers and other supplies for decades. Dennison has since merged with Avery office products to become Avery Dennison. So new quality Dennison craft and art products are no longer available.
The Dennison Flameproof Steamer sticker remains on each roll, but is a little loose on some of the rolls we have in stock. There is some modest wear and a touch of fading (from storage) on the outside of the roll, but that makes it even more appropriate for your vintage projects!
These 35-foot rolls originally sold for 15¢. That and the label suggest that the rolls are from the mid-20th century.

The first known Advent Calendar was produced by hand around 1851 in Germany. Mainly a Protestant tradition, chalk-lines were ticked off as the days grew closer to Christmas. The first Advent Calendars didn't have windows to open. These were added early in the 20th century.

Hand-Made Feather Tree Sprigs
These are sprigs made of real goose feathers - the same way they were made in the early days of holiday decorating! Each is handmade from dyed goose feathers. The feathers are applied individually in the same manner as in 19th century Germany.
Each sprig is just about 2 inches long and 1-1/4 inch wide with a 1-1/2 inch stem and is finished with a berry tip. The Victorian Cream sprig sports a matching berry, while the Antique Green and Traditional Green sprigs are each accented with a red berry. Patriot Blue (picture coming soon) is also available!
Now you can reproduce all of those wonderful Victorian Ornaments. Let Santa carry one as a miniature tree. Combine some reproduction Christmas Die Cuts with some stretched Krausbouillion and one of these sprigs, sprinkle on some mica (a little glue helps!) and voilà - a Victorian ornament.

Vintage Mini Spun Cotton Brown-Topped Amanita Mushrooms

Old-fashioned spun cotton mushrooms have graced Christmas trees, corsages and other items for decades. These lovely vintage amanita mushrooms were created of spun cotton back in the mid-20th century and are in wonderful condition. These old store stock beauties measure about 3/4 inch from the bottom of the stem to the top of the cap.
The brown caps are hand stained to look real. They are are highly lacquered and are dotted with little white spots - just like the real mushrooms! The stems are wire wrapped in green paper.
These pretty mushrooms might really be toadstools, not to be eaten in the wild - and, our spun cotton version should not be eaten either! It is rumored that Santa's reindeer pranced around in a flying frenzy after eating these little beauties, allowing them to help Santa travel throughout the world and deliver presents.
Amanita mushrooms are considered good luck in many cultures, especially in Germany. You'll often see them pictured with gnomes, elves and fairies in children's literature.

This fantastic lametta hails from US Zone Germany from the 1940s or 1950s. The packages are intact, but show their age. The icicles themselves are in fine condition and can be used for your holiday décor, or of cores in your artwork.

After World War II, Germany was divided into Four Zones. The Soviet Zone later became East Germany. And the three other zones (US, British and French) combined to become West Germany. Immediately after the war, however, the zones were managed, or occupied by the different nations. During this time, German manufacturers were banned from exporting goods to the United States and some other countries.
American authorities permitted the sale of toys and holiday decorations, as long as they were marked:
Made in US Zone - Germany
The controlled districts and the manufacturers within were regulated during 1946 and 1947. Even though the regulation was lifted in 1947, the same tooling for the manufacture was used, so some items produced in the early 1950s may bear the same markings.
US Zone items are not as well known as those made in Occupied Japan, but they are of the same ilk and are highly treasured when found.

Valentine Cuties Dresden Ornament
This wonderful heavy-weight red Dresden base is just what you need to create old-fashioned paper ornaments for Valentine's Day, Christmas or any other occasion. Add a little scrap picture with a dab of glue to the center (or even a Victorian-style sticker), maybe a few pieces of angel hair or krausbouillion and you'll create a brand new heirloom!
The base of the ornament measures about 3-1/4 inches in diameter (from one point to the opposite). The loop on top is for hanging and adds about 1/4 inch more. This striking Dresden is metallic red on both sides and is weighty enough to be the base for a complex design.
The embossing on these reliefs is superb. These are made in the same fashion as they have been for many, many decades! Some trimming is necessary, just as it was for the originals.

Tiny Plastic Bunny with Skis Charm
He's only about 7/9 inch high, but he packs a lot of fun in that little yellow backpack of his! This little charm is a design from the early to mid-20th century and was hand-painted! Made of composition (an earlier plastic), he's as sweet as sweet can be walking along carrying his skis. He is 3D (not flat on the back) and sports an exciting green and red suit with black shoes!
These sweet little charms are created by a small family run company in Germany. Skilled artisans, using old-world techniques and plenty of time, have been creating these miniatures for over 70 years. The exquisite quality of these miniatures comes directly from the workmanship of the molds, tools and especially from the artisans who create them.
Vintage Santa Scraps
These wonderful old Santas are about 9/16 inch in diameter. The wreath circles that surround each of the faces of Father Christmas are reminiscent of chenille roping. Of course, you can trim closer to Santa's face if you like.

These wonderful aluminum star ornaments hail from World War II. They were actually sent to the soldiers in the trenches! These are original store stock and are quite modern looking despite being over 60 years old!
The star is made of aluminum with a glass center - the glass centers are on both sides of the star. We like the convex side, but the opposite side seams to reflect light better.
Each star measures about 6 cm in diameter and has a tiny hanging loop at the top. These are original, unused old store stock, so they are in wonderful condition.

Made right here in the SilverCrow Studio, our Santa Tinsel ornament is made of new and vintage German components. Our Santa's portrait scrap is from the mid-20th century. The decades-old real-metal tinsel star has been flattened an fanned out for a completely different look!
The ornament measures about 2-1/2 inches in diameter. The tinsel hook adds another 1-1/2 inch. Santa faces may vary, but all are similar.

Vintage Chenille Santa Package Tie-On
Chenille pipe cleaners have been used for crafting for ages! We were lucky to find these vintage Santa Claus Package Tie-Ons - Each with a little cap and coat made of velvety paper and accented with chenille pipe cleaners - even for his beard! The little lack belt is made of shiny paper as well.
Use him to decorate your old fashioned holiday tree, or add him to a friend's holiday package. From tip of cap to bottom of coat, he measures about 2-1/2 inches The tie-one chenille stem adds additional length, and, because it originates under his coat, it can be twisted so he can stand up on your tree or package.
These are vintage items and have been used, so they show some fading and wear, but how much more special that makes them!

Our rare tinsel stars are from Germany and were made around Nuremburg before World War II. Each star is made of tinsel that is just a bit crinkled for fullness. This crinkle also creates the most beautiful shimmer when holiday lights reflect. These are old store stock and are in superb condition.
Each 6 cm ornament is packaged in a protective plastic box and may need a little fluffing for fullness. Or, you might want to flatten one and add a vintage die cut scrap for a special ornament. There is a self hanger for your convenience.

Authentic Vintage Authentic German Spun Glass Wing in 2 Sizes
We at SilverCrow were lucky to find a source in German for real, vintage spun glass components so that you can create Victorian style ornaments for Christmas, Valentine's Day, or just because you want to make them!
These pieces were made by hand in a factory in Lauscha, Germany well before World War II. They are certainly elegantly crafted by highly-skilled artisans who were undoubtedly proud to work.
Spun Glass is a form of fiberglass, so it can be irritating and is not recommended for children. And, even though these are in excellent shape, because of the age of the pieces, we suggest you be quite careful when using them for crafting.
These wheels are traditionally used as wings for angels, birds, butterflies and moths. But they may also substitute for the Spun Glass Skirt or Tail.

We just love this piece! This gold double-sided crèche can also be used as a mini shrine or grotto. It is easily assembled (it arrives flat). Once assembled, it measures 3 inches wide by 1-7/8 inch high.
The embossing on this Dresden relief is superb, as is the cutting. It is made of card-weight paper so that it will stand easily. Although it is new, it is made in the same fashion as Dresdens have been for many, many decades!

Vintage Hard Plastic Santa Treat Containers
These circa 1950 treat containers have a loop on top for hanging on a Christmas Tree or holiday package. Each measures 3-1/2 inches tall and is made of hard red plastic.
This old stock Christmas collectible is half translucent and half opaque! They were originally sold with candy already in them. Since vintage candy is a bit risky, it has been removed.

Our striking mini flying heart tin ornament is cut by hand in Mexico and then hand embossed and painted. Technically, it is a Christmas ornament, but we think it is perfect for anytime. The ornaments are about 4-3/4 inches from wingtip to wingtip and about 1-1/2 inch high, but, because they are handmade, they will vary somewhat in size.

Little Skater Couple Die Cut
This reproduction of an antique scrap is new, but in the tradition of Victorian scraps and die cut ornaments of old. This little couple seem to be expert skaters on the local frozen pond.
This can easily be used as a delightful gift tag, or an old-fashioned ornament or as an addition to your holiday artwork. Use a bit of mica or glass glitter and you might even fool someone into thinking this is an old one. The little die cut is made of lightweight cardboard rather than paper, so you might even add an easel backing for stand-up display.

Golden Dresden Ornament Base
This wonderful heavy-weight golden Dresden base is just what you need to create old-fashioned paper ornaments for Christmas, Valentine's Day and more. Add a little scrap picture with a dab of glue to the center (or even a Victorian-style sticker), maybe a few pieces of angel hair or krausbouillion and you'll create a brand new heirloom!
The base of the ornament measures about 3-1/4 inches in diameter (from one point to the opposite). The loop on top is for hanging and adds about 1/4 inch more. This lovely Dresden is golden on both sides and is weighty enough to be the base for a complex design.
The embossing on these reliefs is superb, as is the cutting. These are made in the same fashion as they have been for many, many decades!

This large die cut Santa Claus is absolutely gorgeous. Heavily accented with glitter sparkles as real snow, he carries a small tree and a purse full of toys. Hand-Crafted Panoramic Advent Calendar - The Little Town
This was the first Advent Calendar made in Germany after World War II - in 1946. Long thought of as the premiere Christmas decoration experts, the German manufacturers, of course, did not prevail during the war.
This reproduction is made by the same company that created it in themid-20th century! It is printed on strong cardboard, with translucent windows. Embossed Die Cut Reproduction - Saint Nicholas
The feast of St Nick is December 6. Tradition has it that the night before, children would proudly put their polished shoes outside their bedroom doors and in the morning, lo and behold, surprises such as fresh fruit (so rare in winter), nuts and perhaps a toy would be near! From this we have today's tradition of hanging stockings and waiting for Santa!
This scrap sheet is ever so special as it has quite a few different-sized images of Saint Nicholas in full regalia including his bishop's hat, carrying his staff. Some of the smaller images are available in reverse, so that you can easily make double-sided ornaments. Include some stretched krausbouillion between the images and a golden or silvery string loop and you'll quickly make an heirloom quality ornament that won't be forgotten!

From new old stock, we have a stapled booklet of 36 religious Christmas seals. There are six different die cut designs per page. These are gummed seals - they won't stick unless water activated. They were originally intended to be licked, but because these are vintage and have been stored, we think it best to use a damp sponge or envelope moistener.
These seals are from Eureka, a classic holiday decoration company. We expect that these hail from the 1960s.

Strand of African Christmas Trade Beads
These delightful, hand-made beads are known as African Christmas Beads as they are used for personal and home adornment. They are temporarily strung on string or dental floss and are in loops from 30 to 36 inches long. If you're careful, you'll even be able to wear them as is. But, we find it a much better practice to restring them or to use them as individual beads as you would seed beads.
