Vintage Blank Wine Or Beer Label for Your Imagination
More Ephemera
More Drinking
More German Things
More French
For all of SilverCrow's ephemera fans, here's a unique item! This vintage label was meant to feature the name of the beer or wine in the blank space. Many wineries and brewers used the same labels for all the varieties of drink that they offered, and would imprint the final product name in the blank area. A recognizable label would ensure that the organization would be considered for not only one, but many of their products.
This label has never been used and is marked on the lower right corner:
G. J. 14399
This might have something to do with the factory, or maybe it is a generic label. We cannot be sure. We can be sure that it will be fun to use for a special project - on the front of a journal or scrapbook. Or, maybe you even make your own wine or beer and want to create a special label.
The label measures approximately 5-1/8 inches wide by 3-1/2 inches high and is framed with a gold metallic border stripe.

Metal & Wooden Tags
Decorative Tags
Coin & Other Envelopes
These little tags are a bit larger than the smallest shipping tags available. We think they must have originally been a special order. They measure 1-3/8 inch wide by 2-3/4 inches long. On one side of the tag there is a small ridge about 1/4 inch down from the reinforcement, but it doesn't at all take away from the tag.
These are perfect for gift tags; to use in collage and other assemblage projects, on cards, gifts. There are just too many wonderful uses to list! These fit nicely in our Mini Coin Envelopes.

Vintage Grape Leaf Wine Label (Fine Extra Feuillet Vert)
More French & Things of France
The superb graphics and color (including wonderful metallic gold ink) on this older label (about 4 inches high) will certainly attract attention. What great fun it would be to affix this label to that special bottle of wine that you've made at home! We particularly love the real gold metallic ink that colors the grapes.
With the text
FINE EXTRA FEUILLE VERTE

EXTRA FINE GREEN LEAF
you'll find many uses for this in your artwork as well.

Vintage Golden Rimmed Gummed French Birthday Seal: Heureux Anniversaire

More Vintage Stickers
More Things French
More Birthdays
These sweet little seals or labels feature gummed adhesive on the back, which must be water activated for them to stick. This feature certainly dates the seals as most stickers and labels today are self-adhesive.
We love the golden embossed border and letters, too. So elegant and old fashioned. They are vintage 1960s old stock that has never been used.
However, we suggest that you use a sponge or some other item to apply the water (rather than licking them), or use an additional paper adhesive.) Because these are vintage, we are not quite sure of their whereabouts on their trip to us! So, we'd like you to be careful.
Each seal measures 1-3/8 inch by 7/16 inch

"Oh, quickly come, Lord Jesus! The long night waxeth old, Thine own are waiting, watching, Thy glory to behold."
The other side reads:
Behold, I come quickly. Rev. 22:7.
Cards measure 2-1/2 inches long and 1 inch high. As you can see from the samples in the illustration, there are quite a few colors and no two cards are alike.

Vintage Travel Slides for 35mm Projectors and Pana-Vue Viewers - Package of 5 Assorted
More Travel & Journeys
Back in the 1950s and 1960s, these great sets of 5 slides were sold in most souvenir shops. Slide shows of touring vacations were all the rage. People would have cocktail parties to show off their vacations on slides. Even an original Twilight Zone episode was written about such an evening.
We have acquired a selection of these souvenir slides in their original packages. Some have marks on the tops of the packaging, others are in more pristine condition. None of the of the slides have been removed from the original packages. What we found interesting in some of the numbered slides is that they are not in numerical order.
The slide companies range from GAF to Panorama, to Plastichrome and more. Each set is different from the next. Please let us choose a set for you.

Vintage Allegheny County Jail Merchandise Coupon or Ticket for the Canteen
These tickets or coupons are ever so special to us here at SilverCrow. Annie & Pete were married in the new Allegheny County Jail. No, we were not convicts, but we wanted to be married by a Justice of the Peace. We thought it romantic - just knocking on the magistrate's door in the middle of the night and getting married. Well, it seems we needed to make an appointment a month in advance. We had the paperwork ready, so that wasn't the problem.
I had left my job and only had 1 more day of health insurance left and we wanted to get married right away so I could be on Pete's policy! After a long search and lots of disappointing phone calls, I dialed the office of the Mayor of Pittsburgh. The receptionist asked how to direct my call and I told her of my dilemma - trying to complain to the Mayor's Service Center.
I had to speak no further. She suggested we get married at Night Court (yep, just like the old US television show). The Night Court judge is required to deal with each case as it comes - including weddings!
The story is so much longer and a lot more fun, so we'll write a blog about it later (maybe). In the meantime, you'll understand why we bought these tickets!
These are from the old Allegheny County Jail, quite a medieval-looking fortress in the center of the city of Pittsburgh. The tickets or coupons were used as tender to purchase merchandise in the jail exchange or store. There are several different colors and denominations - all the same size - 2 inches by 1 inch. On the back of each coupon is the number of the value as well. For example, the 5 cent coupon has a 5 printed on the back.
We have a variety of denominations and colors, so please let us choose one for you.

Vintage Original Box of 60+ Dennison Gummed Silver Star Seals
More Vintage Stickers, Seals & Labels
More Vintage
One of our greatest finds ever in the greatest of conditions - our little box of 60 Dennison Gummed Stars. Great for the holidays, for collage and design, these stars are in terrific condition.
Each box is 2-3/8 inch square by about 3/8 inch deep. Each star measures 7/8 inch in diameter. These are No. 4 stars and the original box was only 15¢. The boxes are marked as containing 60 gummed stars, but we think they have many more.
When taking the picture, we spilled the open box and just decided to count them as we replaced them in the box and there were over 70 in that box alone. So, we're guessing that they all have that many stars (although we did not count all the stars in each box).
These are gummed seals, so they must be moistened before using. We suggest that you use a sponge or moistener as these are vintage. Some may require a touch of paste or glue to help them stay put.
When we were young, sometimes the teacher would lick a star and paste it on our foreheads if we did well! A strange, but really appreciated custom back in the 1950s!

The fading and discoloration on these transfers is so perfectly real, you just couldn't fake the same type of aging - unless you were a master at it, of course!
Measuring 2-1/2 inches wide by 5 inches high, each of these was printed in blue ink on inexpensive paper, so it's unbelievable how long these have lasted! We were told they are from the 1960s or earlier.
Each transfer is the same. There are no numbers. These would have been stamped or written in.

Vintage Bonne Année (Happy New Year) Self-Adhesive Sticker
More New Year
Our self-adhesive stickers are the greatest for your French project. Bonne Année means Happy New Year in French, but technically it means Happy Year! What a nice wish for anyone. They are created on golden paper accented with black lettering. These are in superb unused condition. Each measures about 1-1/2 inch long by 1/2 inch high. These hail from the 1960s and are on the original waxed sheet to protect the adhesive.

Vintage Chinese Calligraphy Practice Sheet
More Asian Items
We cannot be sure as we do not read Chinese, but suspect these to be practice sheets from a student of Asian calligraphy. The same characters seem to be written over and over again and in some places the the handwriting has been stamped with a red chop. Most of the ink is black, although some has faded and a very few have some ink splotches where the student made and corrected an error.
Each sheet measures 9-3/4 by 5-1/4 inch. The handwriting is on one side only. However the ink has carried through to the other side.
These are a fortunate find as practice sheets are generally discarded. We're showing several sheets so that you might see the similarity and variance.

Vintage Mr. Dobee & Jack-in-the-Box Romper Room Iron On Transfer
More Fabric, Transfers & the Like
More Kids
More Bees & Other Insects
From 1953 through the 1990s, Romper Room was a staple in every USA-television-watching child's home. Children learned the Pledge of Allegiance, good manners, songs and crafts. The magic mirror might have conjured your picture or name if you were lucky!
For those fans of those wonderful shows, we're delighted to share these fun iron-on transfers. You might just iron them on and use them as is - or, maybe you'll even stitch over or around them.
Each full-size transfer is 6 inches square with 7 Mr. Do-Bee images circling a larger Jack-in-the-Box in the center.
We believe these to be from the 1960s. They are in great condition and will add nicely to your sewing collection, your Romper Room collection, or, indeed will be fun to use in your artwork.
So, DO BE a good boy or girl, please!

Vintage Flash World Library Book: Hairdressing at Home from Shampoo to Comb-Up
More Books
More Vanity
Books like these are now a bit smaller and found at the check-out lanes at the grocery. We're not sure where this book was first sold, but we are sure that it's quite interesting - and, believe it or not, still informative. Some of the older techniques are quite useful today - especially the "setting your hair" portion, which has some clever tricks to add body to lifeless locks.
The back reads:
It is a dream to think that you could always have a good coiffure. Well, not, it's a reality, since you can use curling irons, blow combs postiches and wigs. Also it is not difficult for you to learn the technique of setting the hair and the art of the comb-up. Then you will always look impeccable, as if you have just come out of the hairdresser's, thanks to...
FLASH WORLD LIBRARY FOR MODERN LIVING
Book F39F in the library, Hairdressing at Home from Shampoo to Comb-Up, was published in 1970, so we're not guaranteeing any the techniques that are offered, but it is like any other self-help book - it's up tot he reader to decide.
This 4 inch by 4-1/2 inch by 1/4 softbound book is in pretty good condition for its age. Some of the binding adhesive is loose and the original 50¢ price has been altered to .25. These are old, unsold store stock that we found in Cleveland, Ohio.
There are some interesting illustrations and references to other books from the Flash World Library. With over 150 pages of advice, and tons of illustrations typical to the 1960s and 1970s, we're sure you'll enjoy this.
Some of the chapters are:
Make a Check-Up of Your Hair and Avoid Damage Make Sure You Know How to Choose Shampoo, Conditioner, Lacquer Your Own Coiffure The Right Accessories Cheating a Little with Wigs & Hairpieces & Tricks Thinking About Others
Books from this era of this type were expected to be tossed out after use, so they are few and far between, especially in this fine condition!

Vintage Postcard - Christ is Born in Bethlehem
More Postcards
More Christmas
This lovely 1980 Christmas postcard features a green wreath on the top and a red poinsettia with a candle on the bottom. It reads:
There were some shepherds in that part of the country who were spending the night in the fields, taking care of their flocks. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone over them. They were terribly afraid, but the angel said to them, "Don't be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. This very day in David's town your Savior was born - Christ the Lord! And this is what will prove it to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Suddenly a great army of heaven's angels appeared with the angel, singing praises to God: "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!"

Not Quite Vintage Box of Church Offering Envelopes
More Envelopes & Sleeves
Book Pockets
This full box of weekly envelopes (with some special offering envelopes as well) contains at least 95 (we only counted one box, but they seem to all be the same) envelopes that are numbered (all with the same number) to identify the parishioner who would have been donating. Each box has a different number throughout. The dates range from the 1990s through 2005. Some feature color printing; others feature the name of the church. Although some boxes are different, most were intended for the Trinity Lutheran Church in Donora, Pennsylvania.
The box measures 4-1/2 inches by 2-5/8 inches by 2 inches. Each envelope is the same size: 4-1/4 by 2-1/2 inches. The flap on the back has a small gummed adhesive area for closure as well as an opening so that you might slip the flap into it instead of sealing it with adhesive.
We suggest that you moisten the gummed adhesive with a lightly damped sponge or to use another glue if you intend to close the envelopes in this fashion, as we are not sure of the condition of the adhesive itself.
These are great for collage or just for collecting little things!

Vintage Die Cut Dennison Gummed Seals - Small American Flags - Package of 5

The packages containing these wonderful old Dennison gummed stickers were beyond repair, so we removed the stickers and packaged them safely in groups of 5 seals.
July 3, 1959 was the last day that the USA flag featured 48 stars as do the flags on these seals. However, the packaging makes us estimate that these were produced in the late 1940s or early 1950s.
Each seal measures 5/8 inch by 1/2 inch and are in superb condition.
Most of the gummed adhesive appears to be in fine condition. If you choose to use this in your artwork, we suggest that you moisten it with a damp sponge, or even better, use your own glue just to be safe.

Vintage Dennison Coin Mailing Card No. 4 (White)
More Money & Greed
They must have been simpler times, indeed, when coins could be easily mailed with no threat of pilfering. These once white coin cards were used for paying for merchandise through the mail. Many people did not have checking accounts - indeed, some did not trust banks - some still don't. The Dennison company was well known for making this type of utilitarian item. The address area includes Zip Code, so that should help identify the era.
The card measures 5 inches by 3-1/4 inches (with the flap closed). The coin holder is made of cardboard and the backing and flap are made of sturdy paper.
This is labeled COIN MAILING CARD NO. 4 and it was created to send up to US$1.70 There are 7 openings:
* 1 half-dollar slot * 2 quarter slots * 2 dime or penny slots * 2 quarter or nickel slots
The blank top was available for advertising or a rubber-stamped company name. The instructions are beneath the coin circles:
INSERT COINS, FILL IN NAME AND ADDRESS ON FLAP
The flap covers the coins. Of course the coin card makes a great collectible, or use it for its purpose. But, you might also want to alter it and use each of the circles as a frame for a thought or a photo or what have you?
We're showing 2 cards to illustrate the cover and the inside. These are in great condition, having never been used. They have faded into a nicer eggshell color with age.

Rare Vintage Gettysburg Photo Stamps - Complete Set of 2 Folders
More Vintage Labels & Stickers
Manufactured by the Photo-Stamp Co. Saginaw, W.S., Mich., this wonderful and rare set of stickers is complete! Each booklet features 2 sets of 12 scenes - 24 stamps total.
These are gummed seals, meant to be moistened with water to activate the adhesive. As we are not certain of the actual adhesive, please moisten with a damp sponge or cloth (instead of licking the stamps). You might even choose to use an additional paper adhesive in lieu of the original.
Each booklet measures 5 by 2 inches. The stamps inside measure not quite 1-1/2 inch by 1 inch each.
These are original, never used. The only wear we have noticed is some bending on the cover for someone to look at the stamps inside. This does not detract from their value. Although we do not know the exact date that these were produced, they appear to be from the late 1930s or early 1940s.

Vintage Sheepskin Vellum Indenture Fragment Circa 1750-1810
More Papers & the Like
More Collage, Assemblage, Altered Art, etc.
Before computers and even before typewriters, most documents were hand-written. Letters, contracts and notes were all recorded by hand.
Contracts have been executed since the days of Charlemagne (742-814) - perhaps even before. Because of the importance of agreement by the two parties involved in a contract, it became quite important to record what the agreement actually was. An indenture is a legal contract between two parties. Such contracts were generally for indentured labor or servitude, apprenticeships and certain land transactions.
At first, such important documents were printed on sheepskin vellum, as paper making had not reached Europe until well into the middle ages. And, many Europeans did not accept paper as worthy, and did care for its impermanence. Many heads of state refused to honor anything written on paper. Finally, with the dawn of the printing press around in the 15th century, the use of paper became more widespread. However due to the importance of indentures, and the possibility that the contract might have spanned generations, indentures were executed on vellum through the 19th century, and, in some rare instances, beyond.
The process of writing an indenture was tedious. Two copies of exactly the same terms were written on the same sheet in permanent ink by dip pen. Then the two copies were separated by cutting along a jagged (as if chewed) line. Later, the two parts could easily be identified if the they fit back together along the separation - like puzzle pieces. The jagged, or toothed, edge is called an indenture. In some cases there were 3 pieces, one piece to be kept at the court.
These small pieces of legal indentures are from legal contracts made between 1750 and 1810. We have a collection of contracts, influenced by my Mom's background as a librarian. Several of the pieces in our collection arrived in very poor condition, so we felt comfortable creating collage pieces from them.
Each piece has bee cut carefully into about 2 inch square pieces. Some are a touch larger. All incorporate some of the writing originally on the indenture. No two of these are alike, so please let us choose a fragment for you.

Vintage Die-Cut 3-Panel Dennison Party Invitation with Envelope
More Greeting Cards
Created by the highly respected Dennison Manufacturing Company of Framingham, Massachusetts, this lovely invitation was meant for a child's party. We suspect these to have been produced in the 1920s or 1930s. The images are chromolithographed in a manner that makes them look as though they have been water colored on fine linen-like cardstock.
Each card measures 4-1/2 by 3-1/4 inches when closed and 8 by 3-1/4 inches when closed. When you fold open the two front panels, it simulates the two children walking through the outside door to greet the hostess in a pretty pink dress. The inside reads:
I'm going to have a party And it will lovely be If you will only come and have A happy time with me.
Name ______________ Address_____________ Date________________ Time________________
Creation of such lovely pre-printed cards enabled an easy way to invite the guests. Previous to such greetings, one would either handwrite each invitation or have engraved invitations printed at the stationers' shop. The first method being quite time consuming; the second, quite expensive.
The accompanying envelope is gummed. Under the flap, the name Dennison's has been embossed. How much lovelier than pre-printed invitations of today.
We are showing two invitations so that you might have a glimpse at the inside. Each envelope comes with an envelope. Some envelopes show slight wear in color or slight foxing. The invitations are in excellent condition.
Kitschy Mexican Book
More Latino Offerings
These wonderful little Spanish-language books are novelas and compilations of short stories. The images on the covers are wonderful and the printing inside is not perfect, but very readable. Each book measures 6-1/2 by 4-9/16 inches and has from 80 to 100 pages. The stories are all different - some romances, some Lucha Libre wrestling and some stories for men. Please let us choose one for you.

Package of 3 Vintage Embossed Metallic Gold Flower Basket Gummed Seals
We suspect these stickers to have been produced in the 1940s or 1950s, but we do not have any documentation to support our conjecture, only our experience.
The metallic paper is fine and these feel delicate to the touch, but they are all in tact and in pretty great condition for their age. The embossing is intricate and beautiful. They are old store stock from a stationery store, but were loose, not packaged or identified.
We've packaged them in groups of 3 for your collection or for your crafting. Each sticker measures 1 inch square.
These are gummed seals, so the adhesive must be water activated. Because the adhesive on the back is as vintage as the pieces themselves, we recommend that you moisten them with a sponge or cloth. In fact, some of the adhesive appears darker, but this does not affect the image at all! To be perfectly safe, you might want to use archival glue or paste instead of the vintage adhesive.
Our illustration only shows 2 of the 3 seals in a package.

Vintage Transparency with Handwritten Notes in Grease Pencil
More Vintage Stuff
Each of these transparencies were originally used by the US Air Force in presenting safety procedures and hazardous materials training to firefighters (then, firemen) in the 1950s. Each of these was blank with hand written notes in grease pencil (china markers). We're guessing that these were notes that were created by the instructors or presenters to augment the standard original presentation.
The grease pencil has been on the transparency for sometime, but due to the nature of the marker, the writing should be removable with a little elbow grease and a paper towel. Just rub it away. You might want to try some kind of cleaning solution, but we're not sure how that will affect the base transparency as these are old plastics that might not fare well with modern chemicals. We're guessing that a mild soapy water mix might work for you. But, we just used the paper towel dry.
You might even enjoy the writing - perfect for overlaying collage and assemblage pieces -particularly because most of the writing is in white.
Each transparency measures 10-3/8 inches long by 8-1/4 inches and has rounded corners. There is black border around each one. At the tip of one is clear arrow - apparently to help the speaker point this in the proper direction. On one side of the transparency, the black border is matte, on the other side is shiny.
We think this would be great for a collage or altered art project. We'd venture to guess that there aren't too many of these around.

Random Vintage Plain Calling Card
More Collage
Calling cards were all the rage in 19th century society. Both ladies and gentlemen carried them to introduce themselves as well as to place after a visit. Ladies cards were large than those of the gentlemen, as the fellow slipped theirs from their breast pockets.
The printing was originally quite plain, as was the paper, although fine an elegant. It was generally either ivory, cream or white. Sometimes, fancier paper was used with a grid or patterned background. Other papers might have been textured.
The plain cards are usually thought to have come from the earlier 19th century, as the printing techniques were less sophisticated.
Each of these cards has been lovingly removed from a genuine Victorian scrapbook that had seen better days. So, you may find some adhesive residue and a bit of base paper from the book itself. The items have faded and some are faded or show some wear and even a bit of soil.
The soiling may be removed with a special cleaning eraser, but we like these just as they are - making them perfect for collage & other artwork.
Some have been die-cut; others feature gilded edges. The papers vary and include wove, smooth, bond, vellum, laid, linen and flat. Some are printed on patterned paper! Every single one we have to offer is different. So, please let us choose one randomly for you.

Vintage Vernon Royal Watermarked Quality Bond Loose Leaf Memo Filler
Old paper just seems so much cooler than the stuff made today. Now don't get us wrong. Lots of wonderful paper is produced today. But, way back in middle ages of the 20th century and before, even the lower end papers were made of a higher quality. Such is this cellophane wrapped packet of watermarked bond loose leaf memo pages.
It includes 50 sheets and fits a standard small binder with six holes. The paper measures 4-1/2 inches by 2-1/2 inches.
The package reads:
VERNON ROYAL WATERMARKED QUALITY BOND

Vintage Eureka Christmas Seals
From new old stock, we have a stapled booklet of 36 religious Christmas seals. There are six different die cut designs per page. These are gummed seals - they won't stick unless water activated. They were originally intended to be licked, but because these are vintage and have been stored, we think it best to use a damp sponge or envelope moistener.
These seals are from Eureka, a classic holiday decoration company. We expect that these hail from the 1960s.

Random Vintage Fancy Calling Card
The printing was originally quite plain, as was the paper, although fine an elegant. It was generally either ivory, cream or white.
As the century progressed and printing presses were more numerous, the cards became more ornate, such as these fancy cards.
Each of these cards has been lovingly removed from a genuine Victorian scrapbook that had seen better days. So, you may find some adhesive residue and a bit of base paper from the book itself. The items have faded or show some wear and even a bit of soil.
Some have been die-cut; others feature gilded edges. Some even have Victorian scraps glued to them! Every single one we have to offer is different. So, please let us choose one randomly for you.

Vintage Gummed Index Tabs - Box of 50
More Vintage Items
These great tabs arrive in their original boxes. The backs are gummed, so they must be moistened before you use them - but, because of their age, the adhesive may need some help - so we suggest that you might add a dab of glue yourself.
Each box contains 50 tabs (we didn't open them to count them, but we suspect they are all there!) And, although the tabs are described on the box as grey, they appear to be more of a manila tone to us. These were used to tab folder and sections in notebooks or files.
The box indicates that these are product 59-105 from the Avery Dennison catalog. Although similar tabs are made today, the new ones are generally self-stick. These are the good old fashioned ones that were made so long ago.

Vintage Church Attendance Record
We're not quite sure why these were used, but they are just so old fashioned. The style seems to be from the 1960s, as do the colors.
These lightweight cards measure 4-1/2 inches by 2-1/2 inches and feature information for the church visitor or member, such as date, name, address and telephone. There is also a place to indicate that the congregant desires a call from the pastor or other church member.
In today's electronic world, items like this are rarely seen!

Vintage Color Filmstrip Frame
More Collage & Assemblage
We have selected some wonderful examples of filmstrips and cut them into frames. The filmstrips were not in the greatest of condition, so we sorted through them and chose some really remarkable frames. Some are of groups of people; others are portraits; some are buildings; others are landscapes.
Each of the frames is in color - the colors of the 1940s through 1950s - a time during which film was manufactured differently than today.
Each frame features the notches on the side and measures 1-3/8 inch wide by 3/4 inch high. Each arrives in a glassine envelope to protect it from smudging.
We are illustrating several for variability. Also, we lightened the images just a touch so that you might better see our examples. We think these have tons of possibilities!

Packet of 3 Vintage Fortune Slips - Packet of 3
More Metaphysical
These delightful fortune slips were originally used in Swami or Madam X Napkin Holder Fortune Telling Machines that were in many restaurants in the mid-20th century. After dropping a penny (you read it right - a penny) in the coin slot and pulling a lever, an entertaining fortune slip would appear. This two sided fortune is great fun. These are original old stock - never used and measure 1-1/2 by 2-1/2 inches. They do show some age as they are definitely vintage.
On one side is the answer to your question and a humorous definition, for example:
Present tendencies appear most favorable. LOVE--The feeling that makes a woman an make a man a fool of himself.
On the other is a Playing Card symbol and its meaning, for example:
THE SIX OF CLUBS MEANS INTEMPERANCE IS TO BE GUARDED AGAINST If you had your water cut off Tuesday and you didn't discover it until Saturday, that means you're intemperate. The reason so many people drink liquor is because they don't know what else to do with it. Don't get rheumatism--there's a better way of getting stiff in the joints.

These were produced in 1968 and they do show the appropriate fading. Most are in wonderful condition. In the upper right corner is the code:

Vintage Embroidered Size Medium (M) Fabric Tabs - Package of 25

We've all seen these - sewn into medium sized clothing. These are vintage black rayon tabs - already folded in half and pressed into place. The M has been machine embroidered in white on one side of the tab only.
As you can see in the illustration, the inside of the fold shows the back of the embroidered M.
We thought these might be fun to use in altered art or assemblage. But, of course, they can still be used for their original intention - for sizing clothing!
When folded the tab measures 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch. When opened flat, it measures 1-1/2 inch by 1/2 inch.
Now, of course, you can turn it upside down and choose to use it as a W.

Vintage Mini Money - Tiny Pieces of American Currency - Package of 5 Bills
More Little People & Things
More Greed
Vintage play money like this was available in lots of vending machines across the USA in the 1950s and 1960s! What fun this teensy stuff is! The denominations are different ($1, $5, $10, $20, $50 & $100), so you'll not be sure what the total play value is until you receive your package!
Created by the famed EPPY company, this currency was also used in digger arcade games and as carnival prizes. And, it was even sold as a toy in the Five and Tens. Great for use in your scrapbooks, on cards, for ofrendas and shrines - and of course, for dolls.
Each bill measures about 1 inch long and about 7/16 inch high. This is unused old store stock. You may find that a few of your pieces are connected to each other. We didn't cut them because we thought that would be more fun for you. The image and denomination is printed in green on paper, so it looks like real play money!
We're showing a handful of cash for illustration only!

Founded in 1922, the Pressman Toy Corp. still has a Pressman at the head of the company. With contemporary and classic games as well as unique and special ones, the company has long been known for their quality and care.
These vintage BINGO cards hail from the mid-20th century. The address of the company is New York, N.Y. (with periods), which gives away the date.
They are made of white-coated cardboard and printed with red ink. Each card measures 6-1/4 inches high by 3-13/16 inches wide. The number of the card (which manages the matrix) is listed in the lower right block. These are great shape for their age, but there is some wear and discoloration.

Vintage Plain Green Cardboard Bingo Card
This unattributed BINGO card hails from the mid-20th century. They were so generic that the company didn't even bother copyrighting the cared. From a vintage child's game, each card measures 5-3/4 inches high by 4-1/2 inch wide.
The number at the top indicates which numbers fall in the matrix, so that two cards are not issued with the same matrix mixtures. Some of the cards do not have a free space in the middle, indicating that they are even a bit older!
All of our cards are a faded green with dark blue letters and show some fading around the edges - which we love!

Vintage New York World's Fair 1964-1965 Daily Pass Ticket
How much fun my Mom and I had at the New York World's Fair. My Dad didn't like it much because it was so big and he was so protective. But did he ever love seeing all the emergency personnel when I suffered from heat stroke - the one and only time I fainted in my lifetime!
We were there for an entire week and I remember most of it! But, I don't remember the ticket!
This authentic ticket is unused and is a daily pass. It reads:
NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR 1964 - 1965 CORPORATION
Daily Pass GOOD FOR ONE ADMISSION ON DATE STAMPED BELOW (there is no date stamped)
On the left, under the illustration of the Unisphere, it reads:
UNISPHERE presented by USS United States Steel
©1961 New York World's Fair 1964-1964 Corporation
On the right it reads:
The privileges extended to the holder of this Pass shall at all times be subject to the rules and regulations of the New York World's Fair 1964-1965 Corporation.
Each ticket has been stamped with a number at the bottom to identify the particular pass. It reads:
NOT TRANSFERABLE - VALID AT PASS GATES ONLY
Two tickets are shown for illustration of front and back. The back design is a series of tiny Unispheres.
Vintage Lenticular Kitchen Aid with Metric to USA Conversions
More Lenticulars
More Specialty Tools
We've always enjoyed lenticular (winky, blinky, flicker) images - especially the vintage ones.
This really neat Vari-Vue lenticular features a conversion chart to help folks in the United States convert metric recipes to USA measurements and to help the rest of the world convert to the USA measurements. Of course, when this was created, there were other countries that were not metric as well.
Each measurement is converted to its metric (or in the case of temperature, it's Celsius) equivalent and vice-versa. This is accomplished as each is shown separately as you move the card and the angle of the flicker is changed back and forth. We had difficulty photographing both angles, so you'll just have to trust us on this one!
Although this card is not officially marked Vari-Vue on the back, it is represented in the 1970s Vari-Vue files.
The card is approximately the size of a business card or credit card: 3-1/2 inches by 2 inches.

Vintage Postcard - Mary's Song of Praise
This sweet and beautiful card dates from 1981 and was developed for the Church pastor to send to the congregants to celebrate their faith. The scripture selection is from the Good News Bible. Decorated with holly and ribbons, the postcard reads:
Mary said,"My heart praises the Lord; my soul is glad because of God my Savior, for he has remembered me, his lowly servant! From now on all people will call me happy, because of the great things the Mighty God has done for me.His name is holy; from one generation to another he shows mercy to those who honor him.He has stretched out his mighty arm and scattered the proud with all their plans. He has brought down mighty kings from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away with empty hands. He has kept the promise he made to our ancestors, and has come to the help of his servant Israel. He has remembered to show mercy to Abraham and to all his descendants forever!"
3 Sets of Vintage Credit Memos (6 Sheets Total)
This vintage Rediform 7K 786 Credit memo was perfect in the days of accounting on paper. Today, everything seems to be generated on computer, whether or not it is electronic or on paper (printed). Not so long ago, people wrote things in.
Each set of Credit Memos consists of one faded pink sheet and one faded green sheet with the same serial number printed on each. We're assuming that carbon paper was used between the sheets so that the seller received one copy and the buyer the other.
It reads:
WE CREDIT OUR ACCOUNT AS FOLLOWS
There are places to write the customer's name, the salesman's name, invoice number, terms and all the other accounting details.
Each package contains 3 sets of Credit Memos (1 pink, 1 green) with matching numbers within each set.
The form measures 7-3/4 inches by 5-1/2 inches and features a double set of holes on the left side.

Vintage Color Educational Filmstrip in a Plastic Flip-Top Case
These rare old filmstrips are mostly religious or moral in subject matter, but the images on them range from cartoons - to all text - to people, animals and sights and scenes.
Back in the 1940s through the 1960s (and even as late as the 1980s), the filmstrip was a common form of instruction - all the rage. It was a fast and portable way of speaking with a slide show. Some filmstrips even arrived with 33-1/3 vinyl long playing vinyl record albums to accompany the presentation. Most of these were produced by either Cathedral Films, The America Bible Society, Augsburg Publishing, Interlock Publishing or Family Filmstrips.
Although each of these filmstrips is different, all have loads of useable frames for your artwork. We've even heard of some folks cutting the individual frames and mounting them as slides!
Each frame is about the size of a 35mm negative or slide. The actual images are a bit smaller at 25mm wide by about 20mm high. There is a dark leader and trailer on each strip, varying in size from strip to strip. The average strip is about 54 inches long and contains from 54 to 60 frames.
Filmstrip subject and case may vary. Subject may not match case identification. Please allow us to choose one for you.
Vintage Dewee's Carminative Label - with Opium
More Curatives & Apothecary
Imagine the medications that were given so many years ago. This one was meant to help prevent gas in infants! Imagine!
This rare label is from a now defunct Shreveport, Louisiana Pharmacy. It measures 2-3/8 inches wide by 1-3/8 inch high. It was probably white paper, but now shows those signs of aging, creating an off-white cast. The ink is blue.
The gummed adhesive on the back would be activated by water. We suggest that that you might want to use your own adhesive on the back, as we're not sure how successful the glue might still be. If you choose to water activate it, please use a damp sponge or cloth and do not lick it as we can't be sure how these were stored before they came to us.
The label reads:
DEWEE'S CARMINATIVE, N.F., IV OPIUM 0.46 GRS. PER FL. OZ. ALCOHOL 6.8% WARNING: MAY BE HABIT FORMING DOSE: 1 WEEK OLD, 5 TO 10 DROPS: 1 MONTH OLD, 15 TO 20 DROPS: 3 MONTHS OLD, 20 TO 30 DROPS: 6 MONTHS OLD, 30 TO 40 DROPS.
RX B.F. PEYTON'S DRUG STORE PHONE 2-7167 1872 TEXAS AVENUE SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA
Just imagine being prescribed this today - and for an infant! They actually stopped including opium and alcohol with the magnesium (which is what really helped) because babies were becoming addicted and dying.

Vintage Dennison Jumbo Valu-Pak Assortment of Seals, Tags & Cards
More Vintage Seals & Stickers
Originally issued back in the 1940s for 5¢ a package, this wonderful valu-pak features holiday seals (stickers), tags and cards - a jumbo assortment of 36 pieces! These are new old stock - never used, but they do show their age with some color changes and some vestiges of adhesive.
Each package is sealed as it was when offered originally, but we've slipped it inside a clear archival sleeve for safe-keeping. The contents, as shown on the back:
32 SEALS 2 CARDS 2 TAGS
They appear to have been dry for all those years, but you can never be sure about old adhesive, so please be careful.
Due to their age, we suggest you test the gummed seals before wetting them - or, to be safe, use an additional adhesive of your own. We use a damp sponge to moisten our vintage stickers, thinking it better not to lick them.
These are a very special find, and we think you'll really enjoy them.

Large Vintage Matchbox Cover: Good Luck
More Good Luck
The printing on vintage European and Asian matchbox covers is amazing! The vibrant colors and excellent graphics are all quite special. Most of the covers are for the smaller boxes - about 2-1/2 inches by 1-1/4 inch. This fine cover is the exception - measuring 4 inches by 2-3/4 inches. The printed side smooth - probably from the ink. The back is rougher to hold the adhesive necessary for attaching the cover to the box.
This one reads:
GOOD LUCK SAFETY MATCHES DISTRIBUTORS M.A.C.M&CO MUTHURAMALINGAM MATCH WORKS, SATTUR.
There is an imperfection that has been altered (by the original printer). The word DISTRIBUTORS was originally spelled DISTRIBUTURS and the second "U" was graphically altered to an "O". This is hardly noticeable unless the label is examined closely. This may increase or decrease the value - you decide!
Matchbox covers have long been collected from around the world. And, these are no exception. We recently bought an entire collection to add to ours and we're selling the duplicates. What a wonderful way to start your own collection.

Package of 3 Vintage Hallowe'en Gummed Seals - Pumpkin & Scarecrow
More Hallowe'en
This vintage sticker was produced in the 1930s or 1940s. We believe it to be made by the Dennison Company, but we cannot verify that. Each is very well die-cut with gorgeous printed color which really appears to have been lithographed.
We've packaged them in groups of 3 for your collection or for your crafting. Each sticker measures 1-3/8 inch high by 1-1/4 inch wide.
Because the adhesive on the back is as vintage as the pieces themselves, we recommend that you moisten them with a sponge or cloth. Or, use archival glue or paste instead of the vintage adhesive.

Every one of these contains information regarding these poisons. Some have drawings as well. The sets were developed for corporate and military fire training developed by the Robert J. Brady Company.
Transparencies like this one were all hand colored or colored transparencies were glued in place. This one was hand-colored. Some of the transparencies have additional information that was added by the instructor in colored or white grease pencil. This can be removed with a bit of rubbing with a soft cloth. Please be careful when removing anything from these transparencies by using a solvent or even water, as they are vintage and we're not sure how they will react.
We think this would be great for a collage or altered art project. We'd venture to guess that there aren't too many of these around. Each one measures 7 by 8 inches.
Every transparency is different. So, please let us choose one for you. Several are shown for illustrative purposes only.

Each label measures 3-3/8 inches by 3/4 inch high.

Strip of 10 Vintage Post Office Box Numbers
Vintage Post Office Box Doors
These were the official numbers used in United States Post Office Boxes back when the doors to the boxes were much more old fashioned than today. Some of the boxes used stickers for the numbers. Others had their numbers painted on the glass. Still others had a sliding frame that held these strip numbers. The doors are all completely different today, so these are few and far between.
Each strip contains 10 consecutive numbers - white numbers on black card stock. The strips are perforated between the numbers. Each number strip measures 2-5/16 inches wide by 8-1/2 inches long, making each number 2-5/16 inches wide by 13/16 inch long.

Vintage Medicine Sample Box - Brownfields Little Pills
More Boxes and Bags
We can't repeat enough just how much fun we have with tiny little vintage boxes like these. They are fun to collect and to give away. We especially enjoy boxes like this to use for collage or assemblage. But, more than anything, we like to package tiny unexpected gifts in these. Our friends have come to expect fun gifts in vintage boxes.
This little yellow and read cardboard box may arrive flat or already formed. It measures 1-15/16 inch long by 1-1/16 inch wide by 1/2 inch deep.
Although it might seem funny to offer a gift to someone in such a box meant to hold laxatives, most of the graphics are really cool and don't allude to the use.
This empty box appears was created in the 1930s when Brownfields Pills were readily available.
The top of the empty box features the company's trademark leaf and name, 'Little Pills'. It reads:
BROWNFIELDS Little Pills SOLD SINCE 1875
Each of the long sides of the box read:

Each of the short sides of the box read:

The bottom of the box reads:

Never Used Vintage Blue Chip Trading Stamps Booklet
Vintage Stickers & Seals
Grab Bag of Mixed Trading Stamps
Savings stamps were all the rage in the mid-20th century. Consumers would collect the stamps with their purchases and fill up books like these. Stamps were given at J.C. Penney's, gas stations, groceries and lots and lots of other places. Once full, the books could be traded for merchandise. This has been replaced today with rewards cards - but the idea is exactly the same.
There's something to be said for actually being able to touch the stamps and the books. I remember going to the S&H Green Stamp (another brand) outlet with my Mom to pick out things like a cooler or thermos, small appliances, umbrellas and more!
There were many brands of stamps and Blue Chip Stamps were quite popular - the cute little chipmunk on the front of the booklet made them memorable.
These books are totally unused - there are no collectable stamps inside. So, you can use them to alter, to collect your own stamps, or just as a collector's item.
Vintage Medicine Box - Alophen Pills - Poison - Belladonna
We love old boxes - to collect and to give away. We especially enjoy boxes like this to use for collage or assemblage. But, more than anything, we like to package gifts in these. Our friends have come to expect fun gifts in vintage boxes.
This little white cardboard box may arrive flat or already formed. It measures 2-1/16 inches long by 1-1/16 inch wide by 5/8 inch deep.
Alophen pills were used for stomach problems, as a laxative but also as an expectorant. Although Alophen pills are still available today, they are completely different in formula.
This empty box appears to have been letterpress printed and is probably from the 1920s through the late 1930s.
The top of the empty box reads:
ALOPHEN PILLS
Each pill contains Ext. Belladonna Leaves 1-12 gr (1-960 total Alkaloids) Phenolphthalein, Aloin, Ipecac Adult Dose: 1 pill at bedtime followed by 1 pill in the morning before breakfast if needed. Vintage Mini Postcard Set of 20 Cards: Scenic Idaho
What a cool souvenir this was. From the cowboy country of Idaho, this little souvenir set was meant to be mailed as a set to someone back home. These glorious linen cards measure 3-11/16 by 2-1/8 inches and arrive in a self-locking folder that features a line drawing of the capital building and a cowboy on a bucking bronco.
The back of the folder features lines for the address, a stamp place-holder and a place for the from.
The 20 cards inside include:
Priest Lake - Balance Rock - Snake River Canyon - Mount Hyndman Cabinet Gorge - State Capital - Beauty Bay (Coeur D'Alene) - Twin Falls-Jerome Bridge Big Horn Crags (Hoodoo Basin) - Idaho State college (Pocatello) - Sun Valley Lodge Little Salmon River - Arrow Rock Dam -Twin Falls - Alice Lake - Salmon River Middle Fork Hansen Suspension Bridge - Shoshone Falls - Spatter Cones Craters of the Moon - Thousand Springs

Tiny Vintage Transparency Overlay
More Altered Art & Collage
Transparencies like these little ones were all hand colored or colored clear plastic was glued in place atop a full-sized slide.
Most of these have been hand colored or painted. Each one of these little pieces is different and they measure somewhere between 1-1/4 inch square to 2 by 2-3/4 inches to 1-1/4 inch by 4-1/4 inches. They are quite thick by today's standards for transparencies. It is probably made from Bakelite or Catalin, vintage plastic that smells slightly of phenol.
These have been aired out since we first discovered them sealed tightly in a presentation case. These hail from around 1957 and were part of a presentation of Fire Safety offered by the United States Air Force.
No two of these little pieces are alike. They are overlays, so some are flames, others are electrical drawings and still others are arrows and engineering-like pieces. We will randomly select one from the group for you.

New York Central Railroad Company Mortgage Gold Bond Seals - Package of 5 Seals
More Transportation & Travel
These wonderful seals were issued by railroad companies for over a century to help fund the rail roads. These particular coupons or seals were issued in the 1970s and arrive in folded, but uncut sets of 5 seals. Each seal has a different serial number and the seals are for different dollar amounts.
The common information reads:
ON THE FIRST DAY OF AUG. 1978
THE NEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD COMPANY, SUCCESSFULLY CONSOLIDATED TO THE NEW YORK CENTRAL AND HUDSON RIVER RAILROAD COMPANY
WILL PAY TO THE BEARER, AT ITS OFFICE OR AGENCY IN THE BOROUGH OF MANHATTAN CITY OF NEW YORK $20 GOLD COIN OF THE UNITED STATES, WITHOUT DEDUCTION FOR TAXES SPECIFIED IN THE BOND BEING SIX MONTHS INTEREST TEN DUE ON ITS FOUR PER CENT. CONSOLIDATION MORTGAGE GOLD BOND, SERIES A No.25419.
These were created by the American Bank Note Company of New York. The dates are listed through the 1990s, but were created in the 1970s. The numbers, dates and the amounts will vary per set and from set to set.
Typically these coupons or seals were cut and redeemed for the face amount. We believe these to be worthless in terms of exchange. However, they are wonderful pieces of ephemera. Who knows, maybe they're real after all!

Vintage World War Ii Ration Stamp Assortment of 10 Stamps
During World War II, most of the resources in the United States went to the war effort. This was true in much of the rest of the world at war as well. Citizens were committed to supporting the troops and the government in winning the war - for the most part. In order to assure that resources were used in the best interest of as many as possible, rationing became the norm.
Gasoline, food, mil and many other items were issued to people in exchange for ration stamps. These were assigned in booklets and were taken very seriously. Of course, there was a black market, but most people upheld the law and "bit the bullet" to only use their share.
We have a collection of many different stamps, mostly from the United States, and we've packaged these in assorted groups of 10 for the collector, artist or historian.
The illustration shows a larger group of some of the intact sheets. Your assortment may include 2 or 3 attached coupons or stamps as well as loose ones.
Consider these, too, for a school project on sharing, history or even citizenship.

Vintage Milk Tickets
There are still some dairies who deliver milk to your doorstep here in southwestern Pennsylvania. My grandmother had her milk delivered in glass bottles with paper cover on top. A thick layer of cream was at the top - this was for coffee and tea, English style. Sometimes, she would shake the bottle and include the cream. You might guess this to be a wonderful memory of mine. But, truth be told, I hated milk - and only used it to wet my cereal!
Tickets or cards like these slid into a ticket holder on the milk box - made of tin or some other silvery metal. They indicated to the milkman how many quarts you might want.
We came across these vintage tickets some time ago, but weren't sure what happened to them. They resurfaced just recently.
Each 2-3/8 inch by 1-3/16 inch card or ticket indicates a number of quarts: 25, 1, 9, 12, etc. Each one indicates the number of quarts and then lists the milkman's name:
Henry Holcemann
Several cards or tickets are pictured to show variety. We don't have a lot of any one ticket, so please let us choose one for you.

Grab Bag of 25 Vintage Church Checks from the Mid-20th Century
We love these old checks. Not only do they tell a story of life and business long ago, but the paper just seems nicer than it is today. Each grab bag will have at least 25 checks of different sizes and different muted greens and blues. They are wrapped with a check register page just for fun. So, as you can see by the illustration, these would be a great addition to an altered art or collage project.
The checks are dated from the 1940s through the 1980s. Some are written, some typed and some are combination of the two. It's interesting to see the prices paid and costs of things compared to today as well. So these might even be appropriate for a school project!

Vintage Label: Fabrica de Tabacos
Printed on what appears to be clay-coated paper, this gorgeous label is truly singular in its intricacies. We're not sure if this was meant to be a label for the inside or outside of a cigar box - or even if it were to be for cigars at all. It reads:
fabrica de Tabacos (Tobacco Factory)
in elegant Spencerian-like script. It is highly embossed and features foiled golden metallic letters and filigree.
A mark on the lower right corner of the design reads:
PM DEP.16601.
The entire label measures 10-1/8 by 6-1/8 inches and shows wear on the corners and edges (where some of the coating has actually worn away as well). The actual image measures 6-1/8 by 4-1/8 and is in fine condition.
There is a tobacco factory museum in Havana, Cuba, with the same name.

Packet of 3 Vintage Train Station Flash Cards
Before there were electronic memorization tools and scheduling systems, the station managers and clerks along the railways had to memorize stations, schedules and stops just to do their jobs. These cards list trains, stations and stops and were created for the novice to learn the ropes. Some even have notes jotted in pencil on either side. Vintage Elixir of Iron, Quinine & Strychnine Label
Used to combat paralysis in the late 19th century, Elixir of Iron, Quinine and Strychnine was quite commonly available. The exceptional tonic made from these ingredients might also have been toxic if used inappropriately as strychnine is a deadly poison. However, used properly it could stimulate physiologic systems in the human body and save lives.
This neat label from the early days of telephone was for just such a tonic. It reads:
ELIXIR IRON, QUININE AND STRYCHNINE N.F. Average adult dos: 1 teaspoonful 3 times a day 1/2 hour before meals, in a little water. Do not take if markedly dark in color. WARNING: Do not take more than the dosage recom- meded. Frequent or continued use is to be avoided and its use for children and elderly persons may be especially dangerous.

Vintage Yankee Girl Box with Red & White Checks
More Smoking & the Like
We love old boxes - to collect and especially for wrapping presents. This one is great fun for USA patriotic holidays (especially for New Yorkers). Originally designed to hold plug tobacco, the red and white checks made it quite noticeable amongst the other boxes in cigar cases. My grandfather had a bookstore years ago that also sold cigars, tobacco, stationery, toys, and a zillion other things. He always indicated that red drew the eyes to the product better than anything (I guess, of course, unless your buyer was colorblind!) The printing is all in dark blue, but we think it just might look great for Christmas as well.
Plug tobacco is chewing tobacco that was made with molasses. The sweet and sticky molasses helped hold the tobacco together to form a sheet - sort of like a fruit roll! The large sheets were cut into smaller sheets called plugs and wrapped with finer tobacco. The plug connoisseur would then either cut off, or more likely, bite off a piece to chew.
Your box will arrive flat, but, with a little ingenuity, you should be able to assemble it easily.
The top of the box reads:
YANKEE GIRL PLUG TOBACCO
1 DOZEN CELLOPHANE WRAPPED
OPEN THIS SIDE
Two Yankee Girls flank the center banner holding red and white striped banners that read:
YANKEE GIRL UNION MADE
The front flap reads:
YANKEE GIRL PLUG
The front of the box reads:
YANKEE GIRL PLUG SCOTTEN - DILLON COMPANY DETROIT, MICH.

On the bottom, along with a seal that indicates that the product is made by the Tobacco Workers International Union:
SCOTTEN, DILLON COMPANY DETROIT, MICH.

Vintage Cuban Cigar Label: Perfecto Garcia
A huge cigar must have originally held one of these labels - they are quite large, measuring 5-5/16 inches wide by 3-1/8 inches high. The striking colors appear to be modern, but we are quite sure that our labels are from the early 20th century (from 1900-1939). The labels are all in excellent condition for their age and you'll be charmed by the slight patina that has developed on the metallic gold embossing.
Created for Cuban cigars, this label could have been made in the United States or in Cuba as trade was still vital between the countries at the time of production.

Vintage White Swan Park Ticket
More Circus, Carnivals & the Like
Old tickets are so much fun! They're great for assemblage, card-making, even to use for tickets (imagine that!!!) These great old tickets are for a special event at a wonderful old family-owned amusement park (nope, not a theme park) in Western Pennsylvania - not too far from SilverCrow. At one time there were many of these small parks around - people didn't drive as far for a day of fun or fly, for goodness' sake! Now there are still two left - Kennywood and Idlewild Park (with Storybook Forest, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood & More) and a very old park, Conneaut Lake Park just re-opened. So, everything old is new again, thank goodness!
On each ticket, there is a sequenced number and the rest of the ticket reads,
WHITE SWAN PARK Airport Parkway - PGH., PA. SPECIAL TICKET Good for All Amusements Not Redeemable Not Good Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays CLOSED MONDAYS

These tickets are quite collectable in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, area because there were so many kids (who are now much older) with so many wonderful memories there.

Package of 3 Vintage Shire Brothers Checks from the 1920s
We love these old checks. Not only do they tell a story of life and business in the 1920s, but back then, everything seemed more special. The handwriting on most is beautiful. The checks themselves, standard bank draughts, were printed in the old style and in multiple colors. The processing included stamps and machines and perforations, too. So, as you can see by the illustration, these would be a great addition to an altered art or collage project.
Most checks are dated 1926, well before the Crash that so changed the United States. It's interesting to see the prices paid and costs of things compared to today as well. So these might even be appropriate for a school project!

Vintage Novelty Toilet Tissue by the Square
More Bath and Bathing
Ever since we were little, we both LOVED novelty items. So when we can find vintage novelties, it's even more fun for us! We were lucky enough to find this vintage roll of real toilet tissue with a poem on each square. One reads:
Be at ease, As you sit, This paper's strong and will not split.
Another one reads:
Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, Please pull the chain, When you get through.
It might make an interesting collage element as well.

Full Sheet of Vintage Coca-Cola (COKE) Bingo Markers
More Toys & Games
Coke items are always popular and we love this sheet of vintage Coca-Cola bingo markers! Each of the markers is circular and is perforated, so that you can punch each one out individually, if you please.
The entire sheet is 5-1/2 inches square, making each of the markers around 7/8 inch in diameter. These sheets are new old stock - never used. The top and bottom edges show what looks like some rough wear. But, really it was the perforation for tearing the sheets apart. The sheets came in long strips and were torn off as needed.
These were used for bingo games in charity halls and military canteens in the 1940s through the 1950s.
These are great for lots of reasons! Of course, Coke collectors will love the sheet as is. But, consider punching out the markers and using them in an invitation to a 1940s or 1950s-style party. Or, wouldn't one be just great in scrapbook featuring a World War II romance at the canteen? Cokes were the rage, that's for sure! Although older, they are modern enough looking that they could be used in a modern collage or memory book as well.
At 22¢ per marker, there are just so many possibilities!

Vintage Happee - Merree Christmas Pack - Seals & Tags in Original Package
This delightful and wonderful envelope is filled with Christmas delights. The original envelope contains gummed Christmas seals - the kind that are water-activated. Due to their age, we suggest you test the gummed seals before wetting them - or, to be safe, use an additional adhesive of your own. Of course, when this package was originally available - in 1944, you'd probably lick them. There are also gift tags for your presents.
The outer envelope was to be sealed in the same manner, by water-activated adhesive, but it has loosened on some of the packages and the contents are easily removed. Everything inside is intact - these have never been opened - except for the set we photographed, and that one, we're keeping for ourselves!
These were originally issued by Fred Fear & Company, listed as the packers on the back of the cover envelope. Fred Fear & Co. was originally a manufacturer and distributor of maple syrup, Easter egg coloring and the like. Their factories were located throughout the northeast United States. This package originates in Brooklyn, N.Y. and indicates that they were made in U.S.A. (The periods in the abbreviations mark their age, too.)
The graphics are typical of the 1940s and many of the stickers feature captions, such as:
Christmas Cheer Open DEC.25th. Holiday Greetings Merry Xmas
and more. The text fonts, colors and illustrations are charming and make you want to go back in time.
This package originally sold for 10¢ in 1944 - probably in a five and dime store. Each package contains 80 seals and 20 tags. The outer envelope measures 5-5/8 by 5-1/2 inches. These are in wonderful condition.

Vintage Cinderella Face Beautifier Label
Who doesn't love Cinderella? And, we're not convinced that her prince saved her life from despair - maybe just from poverty and lack of love. We're convinced that she saved his life as well - one of being doomed to succumb to the trappings of royalty and riches.
Opinions aside, this plain little dark green and cream colored label seems to have a gummed backing for water moistened adhesive. Now we don't suggest that you lick these to adhere to your project as we're not sure of the origins or content of the glue. You can use any water-based glue to adhere it to your project.
Each 4-1/8 by 3 inch label reads:
CINDERELLA Dr. Blumer's Well-Known FACE BEAUTIFIER Manufactured by Lincoln Chemical Works Chicago DIRECTIONS Apply warm towel then apply Cinderella all over the entire face, allow to dry. Then remove by placing wet towel over the face pressing water into it. When soft wipe off and use Dr. Blumer's Vanishing Cream, wipe off then use Dr. Blumer's Cold Cream. Vintage POISON Label
We love old labels and this one is extra special. The skull and crossbones symbol indicates that this is a poison. The vintage label is printed in red like most pharmacy labels from the early 20th century. The back of the label has a gummed backing indicating a water-moistened adhesive. Now we don't suggest that you lick these to adhere to your project as we're not sure of the origins or content of the glue. You can use any water-based glue to adhere it to your project. Or, if you dare, dampen the adhesive lightly with a well-squeezed sponge (don't use too much water!) and hope for the best!
Each 2-1/2 by 1-1/8 inch label reads:
AQUA AMMONIA POISON Directions for Treatment - Antidotes External - Flood with water, then wash with vinegar. Internal - Give vinegar, or juice of lemon, grapefruit, or orange, copiously. Follow with olive oil. Eyes - Wash out with 5% boric-acid solution. Call physician. ____________________________

Vintage Hallowe'en Mask - Native American Indian Chief
More Masks
More Native American Indian
These paper card-stock masks uniquely represent the graphical art of the 40s, 50s and 60s popular in the US. Their vivid colors are almost as vibrant as when they were produced, even after all of these years!
We know that these masks are probably politically incorrect today. And, we certainly do not want to offend anyone!
Such masks were popular styles in the mid 20th Century. Each is brilliantly printed in bright colors and with interesting detail. We believe that these are chromolithographed items, but we cannot be sure
There are perforated tabs on either side to punch out to add a ribbon or elastic for someone to wear these as masks, as intended. However, we think they are just wonderful as framed items or as memorabilia of the past. Many of the masks boast tabs that are still intact, never having been punched out. However, some of the perforated items have been lost through the years.
The eyes are perforated as well. The wearer would punch out the eyes (so s/he could actually see when wearing the mask).
Each of the masks measures about 7-1/2 inches wide (ear to ear) by about 10 inches high. Of course, there is a notch for the wearer’s nose.
These were a fantastic find! They are old store stock and have never been used. The woman from whom we bought these tells SilverCrow that she sold quite a lot of these some time ago. She couldn’t remember if it was in the 50s or 60s, as she raised children in both decades and dressed even more children for Halloween!
We have sorted out the very damaged masks, and most are in pristine condition. We will ship the ones in the best condition first, so, be sure to order right away - when they're gone - they're gone!

Vintage True Story Flyer
This great flyer was a give-away back around 1925 at the Swallow Confectionery Company (Main Street, Fillmore). Inside is a lurid tale of The No-Account Girl. It is printed in blue and red and features two photo illustrations within.
The pamphlet measures about 5-1/4 by 7 inches and folds out so that you have 8 full pages to read! The opening teaser reads:
Out of her desperation and despair Pearl learns that there is no love so great that it is not greater for the sharing.
An excerpt:
It was there at the boarding house Dick found me. Gathering me into his strong arms, he cuddled me to his heart; rocked me like a baby, back and forth; kissed me, comforted me.
The back of the flyer lists the radio stations that carry the True Story Hour on Friday nights, with a list of some of the episodes.

Vintage sheet of Gummed Parcel Post Labels - 8 Labels
More Vintage Stickers, Gummed Labels & Seals
Wow! These are great. There are eight labels to a sheet. They are gummed, so the adhesive is water-activated. We suggest that you use other adhesive to apply these to any surface as they are vintage and we're not sure how effective the glue on the back will be.
Each label has a space for your return address (FROM) and a section for the addressee (TO). At the bottom of each label it reads:
PARCEL POST · CONTENTS: MERCHANDISE · RETURN REQUESTED
Each label measures 4-1/4 by 2-3/4 inches. The paper is perforated for easy separation. Some a have a bit of a strip of paper at the bottom that is also removable by perforation. The entire sheet measures about 8-1/2 by 11 inches.

Vintage Ektachrome Slides - Package of 2 Different
Back in the 1950s and 1960s, many an evening was spent with family watching vacation slides. For some this was boring, for others, sentimental. Most keepsake photos have now been moved to more modern media and slides have slipped into history for the most part.
We have acquired a selection of slides, most from the same studio and most of landscapes and buildings (although a few of people and animals are in the group). The two in the picture are representative of the lot, but each grouping is different. Most read on the border:
EKTACHROME Brown Photo Co. Minneapolis, Minnesota
Some have numbers scribbled in the corners and others have words written on the frames.
We think these are great, not only for the conversations they may start, but for the artistic possibilities for your artwork! Slides, by their nature, are transparent, so they lend themselves nicely to collage and assemblage . They are also small, so they might prove to be just what you need for that special collaged jewelry piece.
You might even want to write a story about your fantasy vacation, using these to document the time!

Packet of 3 Vintage Fortune Tickets
We know these tickets are still made today. But finding ones like these is quite difficult. These little fortune numbers were designed to be used for a raffle or drawing. After all of the tickets were sold, then an official would draw a number from a hat, barrel or drum. And the winning number (hopefully 411 in this case) would take the prize.
The tickets are designed with a lot number on the back. This lot is labeled
SERIES 6255 Union Made Made in USA
On the front is a fortune. This one reads:
You have astounding good health and high spirits.
Once the front is opened (by tearing), the winning (alas, or, losing) number appears. This one is 411. And, just so mistakes aren't made or ne'er-do-well patrons aren't tempted to alter the tickets, the word for each digit is printed over the digit. (four one one).

Vintage Codeine Pharmacy Label
Vintage Prescriptions
Terpin Hydrate with Codeine was a popular cough medicine from the late 1800s until the mid 1990s. It is no longer available in the United States because the FDA banned it on the grounds that it had not been proven effective. It was used for coughs and colds, chronic bronchitis and such. This label of the once over-the-counter medicine reads:
ELIX. TERPIN HYDRATE & CODEINE, N.F. Each fl. oz. contains Codeine (Opium derivative) 1 gr. WARNING MAY BE HABIT FORMING. Alcohol 38 to 42%. DOSE-Adults, 1 teaspoonful every 3 or 4 hrs. Do not use this preparation when the cough has persisted for 10 days without securing competent advice. NET FL. OZS. PACKED BY LAWS DRUG STORE Prescription Specialists 221 S. Fifth St. Columbus, Miss. Phone FA 8-3456
The fluid ounces and pharmacist's name were left blank to be filled in upon filling the prescription. These are gummed seals, so they must be moistened before using. We suggest that you use a sponge or moistener as these are vintage. Some may require a touch of paste or glue to help them stay put.

Vintage Cigarette Trading Cards - Package of 10
Just like bubble gum (baseball) cards and other collectible cards, cards inserted into cigarette packs were collected from the end of the 19th century through the beginning of World War II. Usually they were issued in series and people would trade or collect them. On the front, you'll usually find a vivid pictures - usually a print or painting, but sometimes a photographic image. The flip-side would describe the front (and sometimes the other cards in the series) and indicate the advertiser and sometimes the artist.
Because they were created specifically to be collected, the manufacturers and printers chose appealing subjects: movie stars, royalty, circus animals, birds, airplanes, trees, butterflies, and more. Some people, in fact, purchased the cigarettes for the cards even though they didn't smoke!
Most cigarette trading cards are about 2-3/4 inches by 1-1/2 inches printed on card-weight paper, making them the perfect addition to your artwork. Our package contains an assortment of 10 assorted cards printed in vivid color, watercolor-like hues, sepia-tone or black and white. Glue one to a small piece of cardstock to make a special gift tag or doll-house poster! We're sure you'll find many uses for these wonderful cards!

Vintage Stock Certificates
While you can't cash these on Wall Street or anywhere else, they make fantastic gifts for anyone interested in the stock market, or old scripophily. But we love them for collage and assemblage projects. Not only are there great illustrations - many are engravings - but the perforations, stampings, cancellations and handwriting (mostly in fountain pen ink) are marvelous. No two are alike. These are vintage and show some wear, adding to their artistic possibilities!

Set of 5 Vintage Elvis Cards
Wow! Each set of vintage Elvis Cards contains 5 different images - most are black and white (we like these best), but an occasional color photo slips into one of the packages. The reverse side summarizes the photo` and that time in Elvis' life. Most cards date from the late 80s to early 90s, but some are older.
These are very limited, so, don't get caught in a trap, once the ones we have are gone, they're gone!
Elvis and Elvis Presley and Elvis' signature are all Registered Trademarks of Elvis Presley Enterprises.
