Vintage Ivory La Mode Buttons - on Original Card of 3
More Vintage
More Fabric & Sewing Notions
It is so much fun to find things in their original packaging! We love buttons especially. There are lots of newer buttons that are cleverly made on the market, but somehow the old ones have a more wonderful look and feel to them - even the plain ones like these! Be it imagination that causes such a phenomenon, we don't care, we think them ever so much more special!
These are hard plastic ivory buttons - 3/4 inch in diameter (size 30). Each has 4 holes for sewing on to your project. Made by LaMode in the 1970s or 1980s, they were originally 80¢ per card. Some of the buttons are sewn onto the card. Other card feature stapled-on buttons.
The original cards are all intact, but some show slight wear. The style is #46209. Each card reads on the back:
La Mode® Buttons Choice of Smart Women For More than 100 Years B. Blumenthal & Co., Inc Carlstadt, N.J. 07072 Div of Belding Heminway Inc.
Washable Dry Cleanable
We like to use buttons for bracelet and necklace clasps, too. And they work nicely for handmade journal closures, too!

Gently Exfoliating Ramie Washcloth
More Bath & Bathing
More Natural Specialties
Ramie is a natural fiber that is often found in organic style clothing in a mixture with cotton or linen. But, it is fabulous on its own. Soft and supple with just a bit of "tooth", it lathers well with almost any soap and it gently exfoliates the skin - without being so rough. We are particularly drawn to it in summer after sunning.

Vintage White Lace by the Inch with Sweet Pink Rose Scalloped Detail
More Fabric
More Ribbons & Such
This sweet ribbon is lovely on both sides. The tiny roses form a scalloped edge that is so old-fashioned but would look lovely on any piece you might make today.
We believe this to be from the 1970s or earlier. It has been machine made of white and pink threads and is probably a man-made fiber, but we are not quite sure of the fiber content.
At the widest point of the scallop, the lace measures 1/2 inch wide. Your lace will be cut to order.

This is great stuff for making personalized bookmarks and trim for towels, bibs and more. It is no longer manufactured, so we were just delighted when we realized we still had some of it! It was quite popular in the early 1990s!

Hand-Sewn Vintage Dresden Plate Quilting Motif Appliquéd Square Quilt Top
Vintage Quilted Dresden Plate Motif Only
We were delighted to find these hand-sewn Dresden Plate quilting motifs appliquéd to muslin -already to quilt. They have been cut and hand-sewn (not a machine stitch anywhere!) together into the motif. And then, these have been painstakingly stitched to the muslin along the outer points. The entire motif has been basted to the muslin. So, the piece is ready to pad and quilt.
You might choose to buy a lot and make your own quilt. Or, buy a few and make it the center of a quilt or a smaller baby quilt. The size is just right for a shaped pillow or for a square one.
Each Dresden Plate motif appears to have been made from all cotton fabric scraps. This wonderful estate find ages the pieces to the 1940s or early 1950s. Each motif is made of 19 spokes and is about 11-1/2 inches in diameter. The muslin backings are 15 inches square.
What really impressed us was the quality of the sewing. Each of the motifs are hand-sewn - stitch by stitch, not on a machine of any sort!
Fabrics vary from motif to motif, but they are all complimentary. The photograph illustrates just a few of the many that we have. So, please let us choose one for you.

More Sewing, Fabric & Notions
More Collage, Assemblage, etc.
This gorgeous stick button is meant for closing a knitted or crochet shawl or neck scarf. But why limit your ideas to the original design? We love these for book closures, necklace and bracelet closures - all kinds of things!
Made of modern plastic, the button gives you the sense that it is from the mid-20th century. It has the feel of bakelite or celluloid, but it is relatively new. The top is a deep ruby color. The rest of the button is black.
These are new old stock from a knitting shop that closed a decade ago. Each button features two holes for attaching. It measures 2-1/4 inches long by 1/4 inch wide and 3/16 inch deep.

Ephemera
We've all seen these - sewn into medium sized clothing. These are vintage black rayon tabs - already folded in half and pressed into place. The M has been machine embroidered in white on one side of the tab only.
As you can see in the illustration, the inside of the fold shows the back of the embroidered M.
We thought these might be fun to use in altered art or assemblage. But, of course, they can still be used for their original intention - for sizing clothing!
When folded the tab measures 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch. When opened flat, it measures 1-1/2 inch by 1/2 inch.

Haute Nouveauté Ruban Pour Lingerie - 1930s Vintage Forest Green French Lingerie Trim by the Inch
More Items French and of France
This gorgeous French lingerie trim is fully crocheted in the tiniest of stitches - so beautifully! Created from rayon, it has that silky feel that only a natural fiber might.
Rayon is made of plant cellulose. It was invented in the late 19th century in France, but never completely replaced silk as was expected. It was not until 1924, that it officially became known as rayon.
We have been fortunate to come upon some unused old store stock from an old fabric shop in the UK. The original package was unopened and the lace is as pristine as the day it was delivered to the shop.
The deep forest green color might not match your present lingerie, but there are so many more uses for this glorious lace.
The lace is 1.5 cm wide (about 11/16 inch), and we will cut it to order for you. Even just a tiny bit of this added to your collage or altered art jewelry will be wonderful.
The outer package reads:

Grab Bag of Vintage Lace and Trims - 10 Yards & More in a Lavender Embroidered Muslin Bag
More Fabric, etc.
More Grab Bags
More Collage & Assemblage
More Ribbon, Lace & Ties
We've taken a large 5-3/4 by 9-3/4 inch muslin bag that is embroidered with a delicate image of gorgeous lavender and filled it to the brim with more than 10 yards of vintage lace and trims. Some of the pieces date back as early as the 1920s; some is from the 1980s and some from lots of times in between.
We've included new old stock, reclaimed pieces, handmade and machine made items. There is beaded fringe, regular fringe, maybe even suede or ultrasuede trim. There might be a doily or a cuff, or part of a tatted edging. Each bag is full of different items. Most pieces measure 6, 12 or 18 inches, some are larger and some are smaller. But it all adds up to 10 or more yards.
We've also included a bundle of vintage paper forget-me-nots in bright blues, pinks and white and a vintage sewing notion (maybe twill tape, bias tape, gimp, or...). The pieces are from around the world: France, Italy, USA, Japan and more.
This is perfect for your altered art, for doll clothes, for collecting and for fun. Why not capture a small piece of lace under a plastic or glass cabochon (or with resin) and make a romantic necklace. Or, add it to industrial items for that feminine steampunk look!

Small Our Lady of Guadalupe Sequined Appliqué
Sequins really change the vision of an image and this lovely Virgin of Guadalupe sequin appliqué is at once sparkly and simple. It features an exquisite image of the patron of the Americas.
A printed image Our Lady's face is surrounded by colorful sequins in Mexico's national colors and she stands atop a lovely flower and is surrounded by many more flowers (flower colors and placement vary). Some of the appliqués include multicolored flowers as well.
Each appliqué measures just over 12 inches high by about 9 inches wide. The height and width vary slightly depending on the flowers surrounding Our Lady. Because each of these is hand-made, please expect some variation.
Because of the size and the brilliant shimmery colors of the sequins, this is absolutely stunning on denim. Consider this on the back of a jeans jacket or as the focal point of a read-made tote.
Our appliqué can be sewn or glued on to your project. Please be careful when cleaning.

These Security Guard patches have been removed from vintage uniforms from the mid-20th century. We thought they'd be great fun for a crazy quilt or other type of assemblage. The back has been stabilized and appears to have iron-on adhesive on it, but we're not so sure about that, so it might be best to test it first, or to just sew it on!

Vintage French café Au Lait Veiling - by the Half-Foot
More Fabrics
More Collage
French veiling is no longer made. At one time it was all the rage, being produced in silk, rayon and a blend. Although it is made of nylon, it is as soft as silk or rayon. The distinctive café au lait color is like a brownish-taupe. The pattern is the traditional 5/16 inch diamond pattern.
The diamond pattern lends an old-fashioned feel to the veil. The veiling is 9 inches wide.
We love it not for just making poofs and fascinators and bird-cage wedding veils - but, it's a great backdrop in your shrines and mini-shrines - or, indeed, to cover a portion of your altered artwork!
How to Order: This veiling is cut to order and is sold in half-foot (6 inch) sections, cut as one piece. So, if you order a quantity of 3 you'll get one long piece - 18 inches (1-1/2 feet). To order an entire yard, please order 6 pieces.

Sweet Vintage Lingerie Lace Motif Featuring the Initial D
Such dainty and delicate lace motifs as these were created to add to one's lingerie. There are tiny holes around that make the sewing easier for the lady to identify her lovely lace underwear.
Such items are still probably produced for those with distinguished tastes and overflowing pocketbooks, but not as they were when these were originally made in the late 1800s.
Each motif measures about 1-1/8 inch high by just over 1 inch wide.
These are new old stock - never used, but there is some discoloration from age, which we think adds to their delight.
Each one features the letter D in the center as a monogram. This is the only monogram we have. Of course, it might stand for Dear or Darling.

Frida's Garden Fabric on Tea-Dye Background
More Frida
Much of the symbolism in Frida Kahlo's paintings can be seen throughout this gorgeous fabric. Her native Mexican culture was so prominent in her paintings and writings and that imagery translates beautifully into this high-quality fabric.
While there are no specific references or explicit renderings of her actual artwork here, it almost seems as though Frida herself created this fabric. The colors are subtly exotic, designed by Phillip de León and shows stylized depictions of Kahlo amidst jungle surroundings, with her beloved monkeys. There are exotic plants, flowers and native fruits and even some blue snakes!
Two excerpts from Frida's writings are also incorporated in a handwriting style close to her own:
Pies para qué las quiero, si tengo alas pa' volar. (Feet - what do I need them for if I have wings to fly?)
Tengo ganas a vivir. Ya comencé a pintar. (I desire to live. I have already begun to paint.)
What wonderful things you can create with such fabric: book covers, quilts, tote bags, clothing, scarves, lampshades and more.

Frida's Garden Fabric on Black Background

There are exotic plants, flowers and native fruits and even some blue snakes!

Large Mexican Serape
More Useful Décor
Serapes (aka Sarapes) have long been associated with Mexico. The bright, almost surreal combinations of colors help them fit with any outfit or décor. Each of our serapes is absolutely different from the next - with many colors woven throughout and traditional white fringe on either end.
Typically worn as a shawl - or split in the middle and slipped over the head as a poncho, these larger serapes can also be used to make pillow covers or as blankets. Just hanging it on a hook or folded and draped over a sofa - a serape adds a certain flair to any living space.
Because there are so many striped patterns and colors, please let us choose one for you.
Many serapes pictured for illustration of variety only. Price is for one serape.

Vintage Pink Celluloid Sequins - 5 to 6 gram Strand
More Sequins & Other Vintage Stuff

These enchanting sequins are unused old store stock from the 1920s and 1930s. These are not quite pastel pink shiny sequins that measure about 6.5mm in diameter. They are perfect for embellishing all kinds of things. They are still on the original thread!
Warning: In bunches, these have a slight scent. Early plastics, such as the celluloid in these sequins often contained formaldehyde and other unpleasant additives. Once separated, the scent dissipates and the sequins are in fine condition for use. They have been sealed in plastic for a long while, so please let them air out just a bit before you use them.

Tiny Day of the Dead Costuraro (Tailor or Seamstress)
Each of these little muertos is probably sewing up something really special - perhaps for Catrin or Catrina for the big Dia de los Muertos holiday. They all measure between 1-1/2 and 2-1/2 inches high, depending on the stance.
Each of these little muertos is made of several kinds of clay and is a wonderful update on the traditional Day of the Dead figures. And, just like all of our other Day of the Dead Figurines and vignettes, each of the these is hand made and hand painted, so please allow for some variation. Desks and desk accessories may differ, as may the little worker and his position.
We're showing two little tailors or seamstresses at their sewing machine to show the front and back. Fabric and accessories may differ slightly.

Vintage Boye Tatting Shuttle
Threads, Ribbons & Ties
These tatting shuttles were well used, making them perfect to use today. We have found that the newer ones are a little stiff. These were patented in 1923 (all are marked 1923) and advertise:
MORE THREAD - LESS KNOTS
Each is standard size and still has the bobbin and thread as we found them. We think they must be aluminum as they do not respond to a magnet.
Several shuttles shown for variation.
