When we purchased these little guns, we thought they were a lot smaller than they are. We thought they would be cute little charms. Instead, they are much larger. At first we were quite disappointed, and then we decided they'd make interesting pendants. There is a hanging loop at the base of the pistol's handle for you to attach it to a necklace, leather lace or even a ribbon (what a contrast that might be).
The little derringer will also double as a cap pistol, firing one cap at a time.

What a cute idea! These little plastic capsules resemble medication or pills. But, the best medication ever is really inside - you can write a little love note or thank you or blessing on the enclosed paper strip and slide the golden ring around it and add it to your project - jewelry, memory boxes, shrines and the like.
Each 2-color capsule contains one strip of paper with a ring and the entire capsule measures just under 7/8 inch long when closed. The diameter is about 1/4 inch.
As you can see from the illustration, there are different colors and designs on the pills. However, not all of them feature such writing. And, only one side features writing. The quintessential American joke, the first Whoopee Cushion was actually created in Canada in 1930 as a mistake when engineers were experimenting with rubber. There is some evidence that a primitive form of the cushion was employed in early Roman days at large dinners as a joke, as well.

These bright and cheerful confetti eggs are the real thing! They are washed (the egg removed) and dyed - and then filled with confetti. The opening is then covered with tissue paper! Tradition has it that they should be broken on the heads of friends and family, but we don't recommend this.
These are traditionally used in Mexican celebrations. Be sure not to eat these as they are meant only for fun.
Ours are packaged in dozen egg boxes, however, as they are delicate, we cannot guarantee that they will all be perfect upon arrival. We pack them safely, so we expect that most, if not all, will survive the trip.

Working automata models do not need to be taken too seriously! That's what makes them fun! But, the fun quickly turns to learning if you're not careful!
You might regard them as 3D moving jokes which can be appreciated and enjoyed at least on two levels. Firstly, there is the pleasure of a smooth-turning movement acting to produce a vivid and graphic happening which communicates an idea. Secondly there is the pleasure of understanding and appreciating how such a mechanism works and how the required movement or combination of movements has been achieved by the designer.
Splendid working automata have been and can be made in many different materials or combinations of them - such as wood, metal, fabric, plastic and even ropes or cords. These can be extremely expensive to make and take lots of skill.
This fun book concerns itself solely with the skills and techniques needed to make working automata in paper - ideally paper alone. Paper is a wonderfully versatile material. It can be cut, glued and folded with ease. Holes can be cut or punched in it and it can easily be decorated with painted or printed with colors, drawings and even photographs.
Paper can be folded or consertina'd into structures of surprising strength and it is also readily available in a a variety of beautiful colors. Most paper is not expensive and the tools you'll need to work with it are modest and easily available.
All you might need to add are, scissors, a craft knife, glue, a ruler & a bone folder or a ball-point pen which ahs run out of ink (for creasing), a few toothpicks and maybe some string or thread.

Sadly, the little company that made these has suffered with the times and has had to close it's doors. We were truly disheartened by the news. So once they are gone - they're gone.
We used to go to the shore every summer - to Stone Harbor, New Jersey. Our vacation was at the same time each year and each year we stayed in the same motel - right on the sand, right by the water. Our normal routine would include going to the all-year Christmas store, a night-time visit to the boardwalk in Wildwood and our favorite - a trip to a wonderful candy store in Cape May.
Every year, my Dad would buy these pills (jelly beans) for his friends. He was the Postmaster here in Donora as well as the Assistant Fire Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department. Every year he would giggle when he bought different formulas and every year as I grew older, I'd tell him, "Daddy, it's not funny every year." And every year, he'd reply, "Sure, it is!"
When I discovered that they were still made, what else could I do - we had to sell these. And, trust me, these are funny - and they will be - every year! Honest!
Better yet, they are made by a wonderful company in Wyoming. They employ 30 developmentally disabled individuals, whose conscientious attitudes and attention to detail are amazing!

DIY Pin-Hole Camera and Solargraphy Kit
When I was just a little kid, back in the 1950s, my Dad and I made a pin hole camera - a lot like this one. Of course, it wasn't half as elegant as this. But, I was amazed at my Dad's magical ways - and he never ceased to continue to teach and amaze me throughout his 91-year life!
Now you can have the same fun with your kids, your friends or just amaze yourself with this dandy Pin-Hole Camera and Solargraphy Kit.
We've seen kits like these for upwards of $25.00, so this is even more special as bargain fun.
Pinhole cameras do not have optical lenses. The film is exposed by light through a tiny hole in front of the camera. Because there is no lens, the image will be in focus at all distances.
You'll take your best photographs on bright days. Be sure to hold the camera very still when you are shooting, or place it on a solid surface. The exposure times range from 5 seconds to hours and sometimes days!
Assembly takes about 1 hour. You won't need a knife or scissors. Your finished camera will be made of sturdy black cardstock (in the package). Of course, the instructions to build your camera are included, with illustrations.
The standard 35mm film you need to take photos is not included. Preferably, you should buy ISO200.

Oh, wow! Were we ever excited to have found these! These are so very special - they were made in the 1940s and were usually include with a figural balloon, like a clown or Santa or even a Disney character. They were actually mentioned in the June, 1951 issue of Mechanix Illustrated.
This little cardboard gizmo looks just like a pair of clown shoes. The die-cut cardboard is charming in its simplicity. And, the instructions are printed right on the item itself:

Now the fun begins. Once the balloon is placed in the shoes, you toss it up and wow! it lands on its feet. The simple physical dynamics make it work.

Roger died in 2003, and his grandchildren proudly continue this family business.
