Tinsmithing in Mexico dates back to Spanish colonial days. SilverCrow's nichos are all made in Mexico of tin and have either a burnished, brushed or aged finish. Wooden nichos are also part of the Latin Heritage. Many of the Dia de los Muertos Offrendas (Day of the Dead Altars) include wooden nichos - almost like a diorama of loved ones captured in a special moment - in the kitchen, at the barbershop, at a favorite outdoor area, etc.

Traditionally, nichos are used as shrines for favorite or patron saints or other honored religious figures. Nichos are also typically used to protect special treasures or pictures of loved ones. The niche is a 3-dimensional recessed shadow-box in the center of the nicho, that is protected by a hinged glass door.

Each of SilverCrow's nichos is hand-made with care and awaits your treasures. So, no two of the nichos are alike. Make them even more distinctive by accenting the glass doors with painted motifs or small stickers and adding your treasures and mementos inside.

Our late friend from Ojinaga created this wonderful frame for us. We had so many requests for such frames, we decided to offer this bright red one.

The bright red frame is accented in bright metallic gold and measures 8-1/2 inches high (including the concha trim) by 6 inches wide and is 1-1/4 inch deep. The concha (curved part on top) measures about 2 inch highes by 4-1/2 inches wide. The opening is 3-1/2 by 5-1/4 inches. All of these measurements are approximate as each is hand made from recycled Mexican fruit crates (rejas) and occasionally, of new wood.

The center of the concha features a small calaca, or hand made plaster Day of the Dead Skull.

The back of the frame is rough. You can either glue your piece to the frame, or, indeed, glue the frame to your artwork. This would even make a wonderful doorway to a large ofrenda, shrine or mixed media piece.

Just wait until you use one of these little boxes for your shrine or memory box. You'll just have to make another project, and another, and another...

We were delighted to find these simple boxes that are already lacquered or varnished and ready to use. Each one has a sliding acrylic top to protect the contents inside. The acrylic top has been scored to highlight the contents inside.

These are hand made of natural wood with a masonite backing. We think they are just wonderful for such a nice price.

As you can see by our photograph, the wood varies slightly. We are showing two boxes so that you might see the variation and so that you can see one box with the lid on and the other with the lid removed.

The box measures 3-7/8 inches long by just over 2-1/2 inches wide and 1-1/2 inches deep.

There are three compartments in this shrine with a pointed rooftop. There are so many possibilities for your imagination to run away. You can leave it the original dark brown color of the Masonite, or you can paint it to match your imagination!

Your completed shrine or memory box will measure 9-1/4 inches tall by 3-1/4 inches wide by 1-5/8 inch deep (not including the base). The base measures 2-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches. The inside compartments are each 3-1/2 inches by 1-1/2 inch.

Although our shrine is standing complete without any gluing, you might choose to use glue to hold it more tightly together. Of course, all of the instructions are included.

This little treasure box features a reproduction of a vintage Ex Voto or Retablo with a young supplicant praying to Saint Anthony, perhaps because of something dear that was lost. This gorgeous nicho features San Pasqual (aka San Pascal) - the Patron Saint of the Kitchen. It is elegantly appointed with sweet details - such as a straw broom (atop the highest concha), a rolling pin and more. The nicho itself is hand made tin, and then it is hand painted with bright and warm colored details - evocative of the kitchen the dear saint protects.

This is a lovely host/ess gift or a fine housewarming gift as well.

These vary slightly as all are handmade and painted. There are some other variations as well, each is more wonderful than the next! It measures about 8 inches wide by 8 inches tall.

Cross Flower Nicho

Our Cross Flower Nicho is simple and elegant with that special extra touch added to the face of the cross. at each corner of the glass covering the niche, there is a little flower symbol added. The resplendent rays emanate from the center to each of the legs of the cross as well.

The entire piece measures 10 inches high by 8-1/4 inches wide. The niche opens from the back with a traditional rolled latch. This is quite old-fashioned as the newer nichos generally feature a sliding latch on rear opening doors! We are delighted to have found this more traditional piece for you. The niche is 4 inches wide by 2-7/8 inches high and not quite 1/2 inch deep. The glass front is 3 inches high by 2 inches wide. This will allow for a feeling of depth in you enclosures.

Tiny Heart Nicho

Sometimes the larger nichos are just too big - especially if you want to add to an assemblage or other mixed-media artwork.

Our flaming corazón nicho is really more like a little frame. The glass window is heart shaped and holds a picture about 1 inch overall. But, with some patience, other mementos can be added in the slot, similar to a standard-sized nicho.

You can paint, decorate or collage the frame/nicho, but it is quite elegant all on it's own. There is a antiqued copper patina that has been lightly lacquered for effect. The opening is in the back - just flip up the little metal closure.

This hand-crafted work of art has been individually made by a Mexican artisan the tradition of years of tinwork. Please allow for the variation that handwork promises. Each piece measures about 3-3/4 inches high by 2-1/4 inch wide.

Hand-Made Nickel-Plated Mini Traditional Nicho with Sun Concha and Wings

We have had a hard time getting these nickel plated nichos, so were delighted to get this style. It is truly a very special nicho with a sun concha at the top and two concha wings on the sides.

It is small (only about 3-1/4 inches high by just less than 3-1/4 inches wide). It is ever so elegant. The nickel plating transforms the simple into the splendid.

The stunning craftsmanship is detailed and differs slightly among the pieces, as each is hand made. Most boast a variation of the lovely scalloped design on the body and the pointed design on the sun concha as shown. Allow for variation, but rest assured each is as special as the next.

The glass-front measures 1-1/8 inch high by 1 inch wide. The niche opens from the back and measures 1-1/2 inch high by 1-3/8 inch wide by 1 inch deep. Please be careful when opening it so as not to break the latch as it is tight.

This gorgeous Nicho Cabinet was made in the Philippines but features the design of Latino artist Charlie Carrillo. Drawing on his rich Hispanic heritage combined with the Spanish Colonial cultural influence in New Mexico, artist, teacher and scholar Charlie Carrillo celebrates the santero tradition through his devotional creations such as this wonderful piece.

From his studio in Santa Fe, Charlie uses traditional art techniques such as sculpting wood and grinding his own pigments for his creations. He is a 2006 recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts, National Heritage Fellowship Award which honors American Folk artists for their contributions to our national cultural history.

We are showing this nicho with two of our Santos (St Francis of Assisi and Our Lady of Guadalupe). The piece is painted in the primitive style to look as though it has been around for hundreds of years but yet is still modern enough to fit in today's décor.

Made completely of wood and hand painted by artisans in the Philippines, after the original design of the artist, the nicho measures 18 inches high (including the concha) by 11-1/2 inches wide by 7-1/2 inches deep. The arched niche is 12-1/2 inches high by 8-1/4 inches wide and 7 inches deep.

The entire piece is painted and the sides, top and front are decorated by hand. The background of the niche features a blue sky and stars.

This piece has been produced by Midwest of Canon Falls in celebration of American Artists.

The beauty of this kit is that you can paint or découpage or alter the pieces before you assemble them - or, of course, after! Imagine the possibilities!

The finished shrine can be made into a necklace - it is that small - so small that it will fit into the palm of your hand!

Your completed shrine or memory box will measure 1-1/2 inch wide by 1-7/8 inch tall (not including the decorative top) by 3/4 inch deep. The inside compartment measures just over 1-1/8 inch wide by 1-5/8 inch high and 3/8 inch deep.

The fully working door swings open and closed. We love the beautifully engraved details on the door and a sweet little keyhole. A tiny wooden door knob is also included (but not shown on our sample). But, you might choose to make your own or use a specialty piece in place of it.

The top (behind the decorative header) includes two small holes so that you can turn your little shrine into a necklace. Simply loop your ball chain, cord, ribbon, or leather through the holes. If you are creating a pin or a small standing shrine, just cover the holes with paper or other embellishments.

Although our shrine is standing complete without any gluing, you might choose to use glue to hold it more tightly together. Of course, all of the instructions are included, so you needn't memorize these!

Extra Large Colonial Nicho - Purple Tones

This truly elegant nicho will display a larger santo or statue nicely. Because of the amazing detail, it will be simply beautifully with just such an addition. Of course, it is quite appropriate to add additional accoutrements such as milagros, charms, photos or whatever you choose.

The nicho measures from 23 inches top to bottom. It is 12-1/2 inches from side to side. The niches is 13-1/4 inches high, 9-1/4 wide and 4 inches deep. The rounded base adds an additional depth of 4- 1/2 inches (so total depth is about 8-1/4 inches).

You can hang it by the loop on the back of the niche, or you might even want to recess it into your wall for a very special effect.

What fun you'll have with this DIY masonite shrine kit. Your shrine will arrive flat. All you need is a tiny bit of glue to make a traditional style nicho shrine. Honestly - it takes very little time to put together. And the great coloring of the masonite is perfect by itself - or you can paint or embellish, or glitter it - it's all up to you!

We love the little circles around the outside - there are just so many possibilities - add sequins - paint them different colors - or all the same color and accent them with rhinestones. We could go on and on! The shapes have been laser cut and are easy to assemble.

Originally produced as do-it-yourself doll house furniture, we think this is one of the coolest little boxes for making a three tiered shrine. It is made of pine and the two shelves inside have rounded corners near the door. This is visible in the shrine on the right.

The total height, including the feet, is 4-1/2 inches. The decorative top is 2-5/8 inches wide and the actual width is just under 2-1/2 inches. From front to back, the top is 1-3/8 inch, but the depth of the shrine itself is about 1-1/8 inch. There is a tiny round knob to help you open and close the door.

Small Bird Nicho with Arched Top

Of course we love birds and this lovely protector is no exception. Flying beneath a sweet arched nicho that has been hand cut and accented with hammering and embossing, the bird seems to be carrying the soul of what is displayed inside.

In many cultures, the crow is a protector of souls and spirits, so we choose to believe that this, too, is a crow, doing just such wonders with the little nicho.

The nicho measures 5-5/8 inches from the top of the arch to the bottom of the flying bird and 3-1/4 inches wide a the bottom of the framed portion of the nicho. The glass door opens from the front and latches with the traditional rolled metal closure. The niche itself measures 1-1/2 inch wide by 2 inches high and just over 3/8 inch deep.

There is a self hook on the back for hanging. Or you might choose to use the arch to add this as an ornament on your holiday tree. It can also be used to hand from the hand of a larger Santo or statue.

Large Sun Nicho with Shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe

Our Lady of Guadalupe is the focal point of this lovely nicho. The artist has created a small shrine to the Blessed Patron of the Americas inside a stunning large sun nicho.

The niche of the piece is round and measures 5-1/2 inches in diameter by a touch over 2 inches deep! The rays emanating from the sun create an 8-1/2 inch diameter for the final piece.

We adore the rounded glass door that closes with a slide latch. Once the glass is open, you'll better see the the scalloped framing.

The artist has glittered the inside back of the niche and added small flowers, holy cards and trims. Each of the nichos has been decorated slightly differently (some with tinted metal!), but with the same theme. These can be removed if you choose. The depth of the piece allows you to add your own milagros, statues, prayers and treasures.

We are delighted with this wonderful nicho-style shelf! It is deeper than most nichos, allowing for a glorious display of your artwork and memories.

You might choose to make an ofrenda or memory shelf for your entire family - with one generation (or more) per shelf. There are just so very many possibilities!

This lovely nicho shelf is open with no glass so that you might change the display as you choose throughout the year. The top (behind the upper concha) is recycled glass - allowing light to accent the items you display on the top shelf.

The entire piece (with the concha top) measures about 11 inches high by 4 inches wide and a full 3 inches deep. Each of the shelves allows for about 3 inches (in height) of display.

The top two shelves feature scalloped repoussée trim. The top shelf is framed in slightly in a matching pattern giving a super look to the entire piece.

There is a self hanger on the back, that will fold down if you prefer to set the piece on a table or shelf.

Guardería Nicho with Etched Glass and Star

How special this little nicho is. It is accented with etched glass - partially framing the top of the opening. The etched leaves add a sweetness and elegance to the piece all at once. The scalloped base adds a finishing touch that makes it ever more the special piece.

The roof of the nicho reminds one of the terra cotta roofs of the southwest United States and in Mexico. The entire piece is made of tin and glass.

The most endearing feature is its optional five-pointed star that rises above the nicho. (This part is attached inside the nicho and you may add if you choose to the top by sliding the wire into an opening on the roof.

There is a triangle self-hook on the back that allows you to hang this on the wall if you choose. Or, you might enjoy it sitting neatly on a table or shelf amongst your other treasures.

Behind the tin roof is a glass top that will let the light shine from above to illuminate the contents of your nicho.

This lovely piece is hand-made of course, and so please allow for some variation. It measures approximately 4-3/4 inches wide by about 2-11/16 wide by 1-7/8 inch deep. If you choose to attach the star, it will add an additional 1-5/8 inch, to make the entire piece a full 4-5/16 inches high.

Easy to assemble with just a little bit of glue, this fantastic Fancy Flaming Heart or Sacred Heart Shrine will be absolutely stunning when you've completed it. The image is like a classic milagro!

We like it even without embellishment. But, of course, it will be terrific with paint, découpage, resin or any other technique you might choose to employ.

Included are an optional cross and a crown that you might want to add to your shrine - or, use for something else!

We're showing 2 completed kits - one with the optional crown and cross embellishments and one with just the cross. Of course, you might choose to simplify your design and complete it without the extras.

The shapes have been laser cut and are easy to remove from the base and put together with illustrated instructions.

Classic Winged Heart Milagro Shrine Kit (Makes One)

Easy to assemble with just a little bit of glue, this fantastic Classic Winged Heart Shrine will be gorgeous when you've completed it. We like it even without embellishment. But, of course, it will be terrific with paint, découpage, resin or any other technique you might choose to employ.

The beauty of this kit is that you can paint or découpage or alter the pieces before you assemble them - or, of course, after! Imagine the possibilities! We even like it as is - unfinished.

Each kit arrives with a clear acrylic window that rests perfectly within the top frame, creating a shadow box for your art, or a piece of lace or photo. The middle frame is slightly smaller, holding the acrylic front in place. Because of the depth, you might make this into something really special!

There is a hanging loop at top so that you might easily make a charm or pendant from the kit.

Complete instructions are included, but you might not even need the instructions. The kits is easily assembled with a small amount of glue. The front and back are made of 1/16 inch cherry hardwood. The two inner layers are made of 1/8 inch Masonite. The window is made of acrylic and fits nicely.

Large Handmade Colonial Wooden Nicho in Green & Purple

It is hard to describe this wonderful Mexican Colonial Style Nicho or Frames as anything other than stunning. It is simply made of rough wood in the colonial Mexican style. Atop each one is a concha that has been accented with traditional Mexican folk-art painting to highlight the expertly cut shape.

The frame is hand-crafted by Mexican Artisans in the tradition of the ages old craft of woodworking and hand painting. Each of these wonderful frames or nichos are created from native wood then hand painted. No two are alike although the colors and the folk-art painting are similar. Yours will be unique in that it is a fine piece of craftsmanship and painting. The colors are deep earth tones - an eggplant purple and deep green accented with golden and darkened eggshell painting (typical to the colonial style).

Our wooden nicho measures 15 inches high (including the decorative concha at the top) and 8 inches wide. The recessed niche can hold a small Santo or saint statue, a photograph or portrait of a loved one, or can house your mementos and special keepsakes. You might also consider adding a mirror inside as a backing.

The inside niche measures 11 inches high by about 5-1/2 inches wide and is 2 inches deep allowing room to create a diorama if you like. The inner niche remains open, allowing you to change your display easily. This is the traditional colonial style.

We have only a few in this color group and each is different, making yours unique. The colors are all similar and compliment each other. These are truly a special find and we are no longer able to acquire these.

Because these frames are handmade, please let us choose one for you. Each is painted in the same manner, so it will be quite similar.

Much like our Wooden Altar Nicho, this little altar arrives unfinished. This simpler altar has more structured sides. The base altar measures 3-5/8 inches high by 4 inches wide and 7/8 inch deep.

Our sample was painted with sample wall paints and regular craft acrylic paints and then embellished. It features our Mini Guadalupe Statue, New Milagros (available in packages of 5 to 100), a Mini Saint Jude Statuette, our pewter Saint Christopher Pocket Statue, our Golden Guadalupe Medal, one of our Raku Hands and our Red Glass Rosary Chain by the Inch.

Elegant in it's copper detail, our large nicho shrine or church measures 11-3/4 inches high by 8 inches wide. It features a print of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Mother of Jesus in the niche, but this may be easily removed. This is full of detail and features lovely debossing and embossing.

Add special treasures to your shrine to make it personal and meaningful. An elegant gift as it is, you can modify it and make it even more personal by treasures, memories and sacred objects to the interior of the niche, which features a scalloped inner edge.

Although the niche measures, some of this is recessed and will be shadowed by the scalloped inner edge. The area that is fully seen measures 2-3/4 inches wide by 3-5/8 inches high. The full niche measures 4-1/4 inches wide by 5-3/4 inches high and 5/8 inch deep.

This darling little painted nichos is hand-painted. So, even though we have a few of them, each one is all the more unique because of the painting and detail work.

The glass door closes with the traditional spiral. From the bottom to the top point, this little nicho measures 4-1/2 inches. It is 3 inches wide. The niche measures 2-1/4 inches high by 1-3/4 inch wide and just under 1/2 inch deep.

There is a scalloped frame around the inside niche (under the door) that has been accented in a mustard tone.

Our friend from Ojinaga created this wonderful frame for us. We had so many requests for such frame, we decided to offer this brick red one.

The deep red frame is accented in metallic gold and measures 8-1/2 inches high (including the concha trim) by 7-1/2 inches wide and is 1 inch deep. The concha (curved part on top) measures about 1-1/4 inch high by 4-3/8 inches wide. All of these measurements are approximate as each is hand made from recycled Mexican fruit crates (rejas) and occasionally, of new wood.

The center of the concha features a small calaca, or hand made plaster Day of the Dead Skull.

The back of the frame is rough. You can either glue your piece to the frame, or, indeed, glue the frame to your artwork. This would even make a wonderful doorway to a large ofrenda, shrine or mixed media piece.

MINI Mini Nicho

This is SilverCrow's tiniest nicho. The shadow-box portion of the frame is about 1/2 inch deep and about 3-1/2 inches wide and about 2 inches high. Of course, because our nichos are all hand-made, these measurements are only approximations.

It is one of the few with a horizontal door, enabling a photograph of even the largest family to be included. The niche is glass-covered and closes with the traditional rolled tin. This nicho is aged for an old-world feel and has a hanging circle on the back.

Large Relicario Style Nicho in the vintage Style with Recycled Glass

Created as a reliquary, for holding a Santo, statue or relics, this stunning nicho features a very large niche with recycled glass on 3 sides. Every detail of this special piece has been finished with care. We love the primitive look of the recycled glass, making the piece seem older than it is.

There appear to be wings on either side of the reliquary and hands protecting those wings. Three conchas top the central niche, with lovely pyramid and tears detail on the sides and a traditional squash blossom concha at the center front.

The enclosed shelf is tin and sits about 1 inch above the very bottom. This allows the nicho to stand on a table or shelf if you choose. There is a self hook on the back for hanging.

The entire piece measures about 9-1/2 inches high by 8-1/2 inches wide and 2-5/8 inches deep. The niche, or reliquary, is 6 inches high. However, the top inch is framed in tin. The glass case is slightly smaller in the front at 2-1/2 inches, really showing the depth of the niche at 2-1/2 inches. The back wall of the niche is almost 4 inches wide.

The door opens from the front and features the traditional slide closing latch.

Glove Shaped Nicho Frame with Heart Window

If you just want to frame a meaningful quotation, or the picture of your beloved, you might not want to use a traditional nicho. Because this lovely tin piece features a shallow area for your additions, this might be just the perfect nicho frame for you. The glove shape represents protection and concern - as though you are holding your memory in your hand. And the heart window expresses the love with which you treasure what is inside.

A self-loop on the back will help hang this lovely frame on your wall or you might even choose to add it to a larger shrine. The tinwork is very lovely and deeply embossed for a special look. It measures approximately 6-1/2 inches from wrist to tip of finger and about 3 inches wide at the widest point (from the thumb). The heart window is made of glass and is firmly attached to the tin. It measures about 1-3/4 inch wide by about 1-3/4 inch high and is shaped as the heart. To add your treasure, simply slip it into the slot behind the glass.

Each of these frames is made by traditional tinsmiths in the folk art tradition of the nicho, with a modern flair as a frame. Because of that there will be some variation, so please let us choose one for you.

Just a bit less formal than our Glove Nicho, and certainly very distinctive, is our Mini Hand Nicho. This is perfect for any shrine, memory box or niche for a family member - or consider adding special blessings, inclusions, promises, etc., for a friend in need - and "give a helping hand".

As with all of SilverCrow's nichos, our Hand Nicho is made in Mexico by traditional tin artisans. The detail is amazing and the workmanship is exceptional. The nicho measures about 5 inches high by 3-1/2 inches wide. The glass door on the internal niche closes with the traditional coiled metal closure. The niche itself measures about 2-1/2 inches high by about 1-3/4 inch wide and is about 1/2 inch deep.

Our lovely Virgen of Guadalupe Shrine features a lovely image of Our Lady of Guadalupe lightly découpaged on the background and accented with paint. The entire piece is made of tin - handcrafted by artisans that have learned their trade through generations.

The entire piece sits upon a tin oval shelf with a votive candle holder. We have included a Cera Veladora Lux Perpetual candle made of pure beeswax and featuring a picture of Jesus.

This lovely shrine is meant to nicely on a table or shelf. There is plenty of room for you to add a statue, picture or other treasure on the shelf. But, please be careful not to place anything too close to the flame.

The top features repoussée and hand painting in the traditional Mexican colonial style. The base also features repoussée along the front. The piece is framed in a unique coiled and slit tin style that we've not often seen in such pieces. We think it quite stunning.

Of course, we love the crows that fly on either side of this very different nicho. The base is a triangle, reminiscent of the Mexican pyramids at Teotihuacan. On either side of the base is a 5-pointed star and atop the triangle is a lovely 6-pointed starflower.

The birds are in flight as if protecting the treasures inside the niche.

As with all of SilverCrow's nichos, this complex nicho is made in Mexico by traditional tin artisans. The detail is amazing and the workmanship is exceptional.

Sometimes the larger nichos are just too big - especially if you want to add to an assemblage or other mixed-media artwork.

This little flower topped nicho can double as a little frame. The glass window will hold a picture about 1 inch square. But, with some patience, other mementos can be added in the slot, similar to a standard-sized nicho.

You can paint, decorate or collage the frame/nicho, but it is quite elegant all on it's own. There is a antiqued copper patina that has been lightly lacquered for effect. The opening is in the back - just flip up the little metal closure. There is even a self-hanger loop on the back, so that you can use it a pendant or in a doll house, if you like. Absolutely STUNNING! We were so charmed with this necklace when we saw it in person that we ordered more immediately!

The artisanship is wonderful on this lovely piece. It measures about 2 inches from top to bottom and about an inch wide. The niche is covered with glass. It is ready for your changeable photo or artwork to be slipped in from the top.

Although it arrives on a 26-inch velvet cord with contrasting velvety poms at each end, you may consider using your own chain or beaded necklace. Or, simply tie the cord for a truly different look! As if that were not enough, it's also a brooch. You can pin it on any outfit and automatically receive compliments!

Sometimes the larger nichos are just too big - especially if you want to add to an assemblage or other mixed-media artwork.

The glass window is rectangular and holds a picture about 1 inch wide by about 1-5/8 inch high. But, with some patience, other mementos can be added. Each frame arrives with a holy card or vintage style picture. It is easily removed so that you can add your own picture or artwork from the back via slot at that top of the glass. There is a self-hanger as well.

Created in the style of a Byzantine icon, with a printed or painted image surrounded by repoussée, this special retablo features a holy-card close-up Our Lady of Guadalupe. The dimension was created by the artist with a mixture of paint and plaster and artfully surrounds the elegant Mother of Jesus as she prays for the Americas.

Each of these is handmade of rough recycled wood - Mexican rejas (fruit crates) and then hand painted. The artist has added a milagro on either side of the painting and a medal of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the bottom panel. The icon is backed by tape and foil and includes a laminated prayer to Nuestra Virgen de Guadalupe, requesting her intersession for us to her son.

The entire piece measures just about 10-1/2 inches high by 9 inches wide. Each is handmade, so please allow for some variation.

We commissioned only a few of these retablos and are delighted to offer them to you.

While all of our nichos are lovely, this one is ever so special. It has been created in the traditional shrine style with a cross atop a trio of flower petals. The side wings feature floral debossing and accent embossing. The niche door features a glass front that is held closed with the traditional spiral of tin.

Inside is a lovely shiny cross milagro. The entire piece measures 4-3/4 inches high by 3-1/2 inches wide (from wing tip to wing tip). The internal niche is 1-3/4 inch by 2-1/2 inch and 3/8 inch deep.

How could we not fall in love with this beautiful nicho? Two crossed feathers at the bottom of the oval seem to protect the contents inside. Atop the oval is a flying bird, which is made of several pieces, giving it a unique sense of depth.

As with all of SilverCrow's nichos, our Sweet Bird Nicho is made in Mexico by traditional tin artisans. The detail is amazing and the workmanship is exceptional.

This simple nicho has been made in the likeness of the man in the moon. Facing either direction (we cannot be sure which ones we will receive in an order), it is fashioned in the liso style - simple and smooth, allowing you to add your own decoration or leave it simply as is for a dramatic appearance.

The shadow box, or niche, opens in the front with the traditional curled metal closure. You might add a picture or some mementos. But, please don't let the traditional use limit your imagination! Although any ofrenda would be meaningful, this nicho is especially suited for romance as the moon represents the night or evening.

Just like all of the other Coffee Break Design kits, this tiny shrine kit is made from sturdy 1/8 inch thick masonite. The kit is delivered to you flat as you can see in the background. You just snap apart the pieces, decorate and glue together. There are lots of optional parts so you can make your design ever the more special.

The final piece will measure about 1-5/8 inch square and you can add a pin or bail to the back to make it wearable if you choose.

Great for Little People, collage, jewelry or assemblage (on its own or added to other items). You might even build it up with some resin!

Extra Large Colonial Nicho - Golden Tones

This truly elegant nicho will display a larger santo or statue nicely. Because of the amazing detail, it will be simply beautifully with just such an addition. Of course, it is quite appropriate to add additional accoutrements such as milagros, charms, photos or whatever you choose.

The nicho measures from 23 inches top to bottom. It is 12-1/2 inches from side to side. The niches is 13-1/4 inches high, 9-1/4 wide and 4 inches deep. The rounded base adds an additional depth of 4- 1/2 inches (so total depth is about 8-1/4 inches).

You can hang it by the loop on the back of the niche, or you might even want to recess it into your wall for a very special effect.

Tiny Shrine Nicho

Sometimes the larger nichos are just too big - especially if you want to add to an assemblage or other mixed-media artwork.

This little shrine or church is really more like a little frame. The glass window is rectangular and holds a picture about 5/16 inch wide by about 5/8 inch high. But, with some patience, other mementos can be added in the slot, similar to a standard-sized nicho.

You can paint, decorate or collage the frame/nicho, but it is quite elegant all on it's own. There is a antiqued copper patina that has been lightly lacquered for effect. The opening is in the back - just flip up the little metal closure. There is even a self-hanger loop on the back, so that you can use it a pendant, if you like. You might also consider trimming the spires for a different look.

This hand-crafted work of art has been individually made by a Mexican artisan the tradition of years of tinwork. Please allow for the variation that handwork promises. Each piece measures about 1-3/4 inch high by 1-1/4 inch wide.

Not only is this fun to put together, it has the unique look of something old and new at the same time.

The beauty of this kit is that you can paint or découpage or alter the pieces before you assemble them - or, of course, after! Imagine the possibilities! We even like it as is - unfinished.

Each kit arrives with a clear acrylic window that rests perfectly within the top frame, creating a shadow box for your art, or a piece of lace or photo. The middle frame is slightly smaller, holding the acrylic front in place. Because of the depth, you might make this into something really special!

There is a hanging loop at top so that you might easily make a charm or pendant from the kit.

Complete instructions are included, but you might not even need the instructions. The kits is easily assembled with a small amount of glue. The front and back are made of 1/16 inch cherry hardwood. The two inner layers are made of 1/8 inch Masonite. The window is made of acrylic and fits nicely.

The entire piece measures 1-1/8 inch high (including the hanging loop) by 3/4 inch wide. The inside is 18mm by 13 mm (.71 by .51 inch), so it can hold a standard 18x13 cabochon or cameo, too!

Can you really reach the devil online? Someone thinks so! What a great gift for someone who spends just a little too much time on the internet. The nicho itself is hand made tin and glass, and then it is hand painted with brightly-colored details.

Created by Cielito Lindo Estudio from San Miguel Allende, this fun nicho is very specially made by traditional artisans. These vary slightly as all are handmade and painted. There are some other variations as well, each is more wonderful than the next! It measures about 5 inches wide by 5-1/2 inches tall.
