When we started selling our little Chalkboard Necklace, we wondered just what kind of chalk we should offer to accompany it - so that the wearer might change the message on a whim. Well, here we have it!
These slim little chalks arrive in packages of 5 pieces - 3 white and two random colors. The chalks measure about 1-11/16 inches long and are just barely 1/8 inch in diameter - perfect for including with small projects - and especially neat because they are doll-size!
Chalks vary ever so slightly in length due to the fragile nature of the chalk. We package them securely (see the illustration), but they are indeed fragile, and might not make it through the mail perfectly.
You can use the chalk as is or, if you prefer a point, just use a regular hand-held kid's pencil sharpener carefully.

Originally created to hold pencils, pens, erasers and the like, we think this would make a great shrine or case for anything, really!
The box measures 9-1/8 inch long by 3 inches wide and just over 3/4 inch deep. There is a small inset inside (about 1-1/4 inch). When closed, it looks a bit like a long skinny book.
The inside dimensions of the long section measure 2-5/8 inches wide by 7-1/8 inches long by 1/2 inch deep. The shorter section (probably for erasers) measures 2-5/8 inches wide by 1-1/4 inch long by 1/2 inch deep.
Just imagine the possibilities!

The earliest glass objects known are from ancient Egypt dating from about 1500 BC. By the 11th century, Venice, well known for the quality and mastering skills of its craftsmen, became the European center for glass making. By the late 13th century, to protect Venice from fire and more destruction, the Venetian Republic ordered the destruction of all the foundries within the city and glassmakers were removed to the nearby island of Murano. With the growing demand, Murano gained the reputation in the 15th century as the European center for glassmaking, which lasted well until the 17th century. Murano is world-renowned for the quality of its glass as well as the elaborate designs.

The Listo Pencil Corporation opened in 1921. They created a wonderful, manual, refillable marker - to write on any surface. They still make such a refillable marker. These leads are still made today. Our boxes of leads, however, are vintage - probably from the mid-20th century. We're not sure that they will fit the newer pens, but we suspect they will. We love the graphical box and even the way it opens.

There are 6 leads inside for the grease marker, aka china marker. The leads will write on any surface - even under water. It will wipe off any slick, non-porous surface, like glass with just a dry cloth. We used to use these on transparencies in our other life in a major corporation. They are non-toxic.
Newer boxes aren't as sweet as this one and hold 12 leads. We like this 6-lead version and everything about it. The actual box measures 1-1/2 inch long (length of the leads) by 1 inch wide by 5/16 inch deep.
If you don't keep it for the collectible nature, you might choose to make a wonderful tiny box shrine!

The first fiber tip pens were made in Egypt as far back as 500 BC! Made from various reeds (these are bamboo), calames find their roots in reed brushes that were pounded or chewed into shape.
As writing developed, the reeds were split and made into pens. Writing fluid is held in the hollowed out shaft of the reed and flows down through the chiseled or pointed tip, or nib. Our calame features two sharpened ends.
Because of the natural bamboo, calames can only be made by hand.
Now you can create your own old-world documents with a bamboo reed calame or pen and SilverCrow's papyrus! You may even want to buy one as a model to carve your own calame from our bamboo stalks.
One nib is 1/16 and the other is 3/32. So, this pen can accomplish a variety of writing techniques.
And, just imagine what a great show and tell this would be for grade school, art school or with friends of all ages!

What a great invention! We've been using these for years for all kinds of applications so we thought we ought to offer them to you, too. This wonderful combination brush and water container features a 12 mm brush tip and the handle of the brush is also the water reservoir, which holds 5.5ml of water.

Wet Brush Technique - Draw with a pencil or pencils. Go over the drawing with a wet brush. Then add details and lines while the drawing is still wet.
Palette Technique - ON a separate piece of paper, sketch small swatches of color to create a palette. Then, take a paint brush filled with water and activate the palette swatch color. The more water on the brush, the lighter the color; the less water, the darker and more concentrated the color. This technique is the same as painting from a pan.

What a great find this is! Each 6-1/4 inch wide vintage ink blotter advertises a specialty fountain pen for the working woman of the 1920s! Imagine!
The illustration features an old time nurse (cap and all) and doctor. Both are writing on medical charts as the patient recuperates in bed. Unused old store stock in excellent condition.
The description is right on the blotter. And the nurse is obviously using one of these really neat pens:

The sautoir (French for necklace) pen is perfect - wouldn't that be great even today - so that no one will walk away with your favorite pen! After all, in 1920, $4.25 was quite dear. That would be $45.26 today!

Box of 50 Non-Sharpening Glitter Pencils
We first discovered non-sharpening pencils about 20 years ago when a relative was in the hospital! All is well now, and our great discovery is no less wonderful today. There is no need for a pencil case with a non-sharpening pencil - with eraser, as well! When the pencil point dulls, you simply pull the plastic nib out, push it into the top of the pencil (under the eraser) and a new, sharp, ready to use pencil lead pushes through to the bottom. Our vintage stationery pen nibs are meant to be used as inserts into older pen shafts. Most of these are for writing - love letters, testimonials, official documents, etc. They are not calligraphy nibs per se - however a master calligrapher may enjoy some of them for special flourishes and the like.
Because of the their aged patina, they will also combine nicely in niches of altered books (consider the authors writing by candlelight!) or in assemblages, or in a small pin dish on your desk - for inspiration.
