16-Inch Temporarily Strung Coffee Bronze Colored Freshwater Pearls with Top Side Drilling
More Beads
These unique hand-dyed fresh water pearls are a gorgeous coffee bronze - resembling coffee beans shimmering in the sun. They are uniquely drilled from side to side, but at the top rather than at the middle of the bead, so that they can hang in a more modern fashion. The pearls are flat-backed, so that you might choose to glue them to your projects, too. The tops are rounded and slightly irregular, with that natural appeal.
Temporarily strung on threads, these lovely beads measure about 8mm round, but no two pearls are exactly alike due to the natural material. Each strand holds 88-94 pearl beads.

Art Postcard - Laser Pop Card in Aqua
More Postcards
More Lenticulars & Other 3D
More Water & Such
We are completely taken by this card. It is at once simple and complex. It is not really a 3d lenticular card, but it appears as such. Technically, the producer calls it a laser-pop card - but we're not really sure what that means!
Just like a lenticular card, there appears to be depth. And just like a lenticular, there is a difference in the image when it is moved in the light, the image changes. But, the best part about it is that there is really no image! It is a beautiful aqua card that shimmers in the light. It looks like the water of the Caribbean Sea.
You'll have to see it in person to know how cool it is as it is quite difficult to illustrate such transformation online.

3D Lenticular Stickers on a Postcard - The Frog Prince/ss
More Lenticulars
More Water & Water Creatures
What fun this card will be? Is s/he a frog or a prince/ss? - Enough with the clever punctuation. We can't decide if this is a boy or girl frog. So is this a princess or prince? Any way you care to interpret it - it is. The little frog sits on the floor and then decides s/he might be more comfortable on the chair. And, upon jumping up - transforms - in lenticular reality into royalty, be she a princess or he a prince!
The postcard is a standard European size (5-3/4 by 4-1/8 inch). The 2 larger stickers measure 2-1/2 inches high by 1-7/8 inch wide. The 4 mid-sized stickers measure 1-3/4 by 7/8 inch. The smallest 4 measure 7/8 inch square.
The transformation and movement in these stickers is remarkable. Fascinating as they are on-line, you'll be truly amazed when you see them in person.

3D Note Card - MC Escher - Reptiles
More Escher
More 3D & Lenticular
More Note Cards
The only way we can think to describe these is way cool! Working in much the same way as the Currier & Ives stereoviews of the past, these operate on the venerable principle of the stereopticon. The viewer does not use the 3D-TV Glasses with one blue and one red lenses. These cards, instead have a nearly identical image for each lens - and of course, there is a cut-out for your nose. You can even adjust the focus - just squeeze the folded-out card.
There's a space for a short message and the whole card folds flat for mailing in the envelope provided. Perfect for the occasion when a gift is too much and a card too little!
Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) was and is one of the world's most famous graphic artists. The left-handed artist is best known for his impossible structures and amazing three-dimensional woodcuts and drawings. He was consistently fascinated with congruency, perspective and technique: often spending hours experimenting.
This black and white card is a reproduction of his famous Reptiles tessellation, originally created in 1943.

Old Fashioned Souvenir from the Seaside Crystal Paperweight
More Desk Accessories
This superbly crafted oval glass paperweight was designed by Carolyn Whitaker from vintage images in her extensive collection. Each paperweight is hand made in an old-fashioned tradition. The felt backing will protect your papers and your desk. The oval shape creates a vintage feeling to match the image. It measures 4 inches by 2-1/2 inches and is 7/8 inch deep. It is presented in a sweet organdy gift bag within a box.
The sentiment at the base reads
Souvenir from the Seaside
The image elicits memories of the seashore when we were children. Each of us summered in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. And, although our memories are from the 1950s rather than the early 20th century ensconced in this paperweight, smells of the shore return immediately!

Hang it in your office, on your cubicle wall or even on your fridge - and just turn the dial daily to count down those days till you reach the beach (or your other dream spot).

Small Bronze Sarcophagus Box with Crocodile
More Boxes & Bags
More Egypt & Africa
Created from the design of an ancient sarcophagus, this little bronze box features an elegant crocodile atop the lid. Of course there is no mummy inside, but we think this a wonderful addition a shrine. And, it's also quite attractive on its own. It's style is that of antiquity, appearing that this might be thousands of years old. Alas, it is relatively new, having been made in the 1990s.
Although made in Egypt, the box also appears to be Mesoamerican in style as well. The images are universally ancient.
Each box is slightly different as every one has been painstakingly made by hand in the tradition of generations of metal workers. The approximate base measurement is 2-1/8 inch by 1 inch. The box depth is about 9/16 inch. The lid sits roughly on top of the be base and makes the entire box about 1 inch to 1-1/8 inch high.

Close-Up of Complete Ruler
3D Lenticular Ruler - The Great Wave
We love lenticulars - the layered paper and plastics that create a moving 3-dimensional effect. This wonderfully useful ruler familiar image of the Great Wave by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai.
Hokusai is quite famous for his wonderful wood-cut prints of the Ukiyo-e, pictures of the floating world - everyday life. His works seems to be more popular in the West than it has ever been in his homeland.
The movement of the waves in this lenticular will keep you mesmerized - so much so that you might forget to measure whatever it was you though you needed to measure - after all, measurement is a man-made idea, not nearly as gracious as the earth that Hokusai has captured in his wave, nor as fascinating as the lenticular captured on this ruler.
Each 12-inch ruler is marked with centimeters as well as inches and it measures 2-3/16 inches wide.

More Items Of and About the Sea
We just love letterpress cards and letters. The elegance of vintage stationery is all but forgotten. We're simply delighted that some smaller companies are offering the same high-quality papers and designs with a modern touch - so we can offer them to you! The simple design represents the simple sentiment so well. And, of course, because it is letterpress, you can feel the letters with your fingers.
Such advice is generally not taken. We might stay too long, not long enough and have everywhere to go:
There is a time for departure, even when there's no certain place to go. - Tennessee Williams
The 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inch size is just what you need for a short message or a quick note of encouragement. The card is blank inside. And, of course, it is accompanied by an appropriate matching envelope.
Each card is letterpress printed with soy ink on FSC-certified, 100% post-consumer recycled paper.

Replica Pirate Doubloon - Small Silvery Coin

Pieces of Eight
On July 24, 1715, Spain's treasure rich New Spain fleet sailed from Havana, Cuba with a cargo valued at fourteen million pesos in silver, gold and jewels. One week into the voyage near present day Vero Beach, Florida, they were met by a furious hurricane resulting in the loss of eleven of the fleet's twelve ships and hundreds of lives.
For nearly two hundred and fifty years the sea would hold the precious cargo secret, only occasionally tossing blackened silver coin or other objects to the shores as if to taunt would-be discoverers. Not until the 1960s would these shipwrecks (scattered over a forty mile area) begin to give up their treasures.
To this day, the 1715 Fleet continues to reward those who possess the knowledge, fortitude and courage to explore the often turbulent and treacherous waters just offshore of what has consequently become know as Florida's Treasure Coast
This replica coin is an 8 Reale - or, what is cut up to become Pieces of Eight. Measuring about 1-1/2 inch by 1-1/2 inch, it looks like a smashed piece of metal. Closer inspection shows the details of the coin on either side.

We love Michael Sowa's artwork. With a bit of whimsy mixed with philosophy and thoughtfulness, he often provides us with sleepless nights - just wondering what the story behind them image might be!
From the imaginative mind of artist Michael Sowa, this implausible quartet of German Shepherds appears to be lost at see in a slight rowboat without any paddles. Just what are they doing?
Wouldn't this make a great card for a short Bon Voyage note? Or, a note for a sailor, dog lover, water baby or anyone?
Sowa's art evokes wonder and amazement; a mix of surrealism and comic illustration, of humor and seriousness.

Wind-up Performing Seal has Six Functions!
This has just got to be the coolest wind-up toy! Our little seal (named Sasha) performs six functions each time you wind her up:
1 She spins around on her tummy with the ball...2 She stands up...3 She spins the ball on her nose...4 She wags her tail...5 She flaps her flippers at two different speeds - one fast, the other slow...6 She drops back down on her tummy and starts all over again!
Little Sasha is surely quite special, so, if you're thinking of one for a gift, you might just buy two now, because you're sure to want to keep her for your self.

Mini Hand-Painted Ceramic Mermaid Bead
Don't you just love these teensy mermaid beads. They are only 1/4 inch wide and 7/8 inch from top to bottom. The stringing hole runs from head to tailfin, too.
Mermaids, or sirens, have been signs of the human-animal connection. At once we humans are a part of the animal world and so very different from it. Mermaids give us a sense of freedom from real world troubles.
No two are painted exactly the same and fish tail color differs, as does some of the decoration. Each little mermaid holds a tiny flower in her hands, too.
We will try to honor your request for a color preference, but we cannot guarantee any particular color, so please let us choose one for you. If you order more than one and want similar coloring, please let us know and we'll try to honor that, too.

Saint Anthony of Padua was born a wealthy nobleman, but, much to the consternation of his family, he became a poor Franciscan Friar. He was such a wonderful speaker, that it was rumored that even the fishes loved to listen to him.

Genuine Wampum Tube Bead

More Shells and the Sea
Genuine Quahog Shell
Just the word wampum conjures magical thoughts of long ago. Made from the shell of the quahog clam, wampum was used in trading and ornamentation by the Native Americans and early European traders and settlers in the Americas. The inside of the shells feature gorgeous purple and ivory or white stripings and solids. The purple stripes are indications of the growth of the shell.
Beads made from the purple shell are called suckauhock and were worth twice as much as the ivory or white beads, called wompampeage. We find it quite interesting that the species name for the quahog is the Latin mercinaria mercinaria, which is the root of the word mercenary (one who acts or works for merely reward or money).
The Narragansett Tribes in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic areas were the purveyors of the quahog shells and the beads and other adornments made from them.
We are proud to offer these special tube beads made in the traditional manner by Native Americans and non-Native Americans alike. The beads measure approximately 10mm long by 4mm in diameter and have slim stringing hole that works well with traditional and modern stringing materials.
Two beads shown for illustration only. Because the beads are made from natural shell, there will be variation, so please let us chose one for you.

Birth of Venus Enamel Pendant
More Italian Items
Sandro Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, the Goddess of Love rises from the sea on a shell that is now named for her. She arose on the shell and was swept to shore by flying wind-gods amongst a shower of roses.
This striking pendant measures 7/8 inch wide by 1-1/4 inch long. Made of vitreous enamel, each pendant is assembled by hand, so please allow for some variability. We have an assortment of these pendants - with different background essences. Most resemble the three colors illustrated above.
Equally beautiful as jewelry or as an art element in a shrine or assemblage, this unique piece is conservatively priced for such elegant craftsmanship.

3D Art Postcard - Hokusai Katsushika - The Great Wave
More 3D Lenticulars
We love lenticulars - the layered paper and plastics that create a moving 3-dimensional effect. This wonderfully mailable post card features the familiar image of the Great Wave by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai who lived from 1760 to 1849.
He is quite famous for his wonderful wood-cut prints of the Ukiyo-e, pictures of the floating world - everyday life. His works seems to be more popular in the West than it has ever been in his homeland.
His striking image of the sea completed in this new lenticular form is simply spectacular - the movement is amazing. In fact the sea appears to transform into mountains, another of the artists favorite subjects. Although the transformation is hard to notice online, we're sure you'll be as awed by the images in person.
Art Postcard - Die Abfahrt (The Departure)
This wonderfully moving painting by German artist Quint Buchholz shows us an unlikely trio afloat, a king, a child and a lion. We suspect the time to be dusk or dawn as their craft is lit by a small lantern. They have chosen to bring along a window as well. The seabirds may not even have noticed them. Oh, the stories you might create from this lovely image.

This is a really neat VariVue Motion Lenticular. This delightful pair of hula girls dances in black and white. It is a mint or near-mint condition vintage late 1950s / early 1960s authentic Vari-Vue of two Hawaiian hula dancers at night under a full moon.
Both dancers sway to the rhythm of the silent music. Uniquely, their entire bodies move back and forth, with arms swinging up and down and back and forth. These are truly remarkable effects that are best viewed in person, of course! This little piece is quite sturdy and measures 1-1/4 inch across by just about 1 inch. tall. A Great item!

The Grace of Wild Things Note Card
More Perseverance
Nick Wroblewski is a Midwest-based printmaker specializing in hand-cut wood block prints. His images are depictions of the natural world, carved from large blocks of wood and printed one color at a time. He uses a traditional method of carving away more material as the print progresses, resulting in the eventual elimination of the textured image on the block. He is very interested in art that is hand hewn, art that shows the gesture of a landscape, and art that speaks to the dynamic energy shared between all life.
When there seems to be no hope, this message is a gentle one to be offered, along with the gorgeous print of a new dawn:
Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings while the dawn is still dark.

Embossed Die Cut Reproduction Scrap - Sailor Tots
More Ocean & Sea
Young men and boys have oft' dreamt of the sea. So, down to the sea and ships they go on this traditional set of scraps. In their Victorian boyhood dress, they play with their toys and continue to dream. This set of scraps has quite large images - perfect for use in découpage - for a waste basket or large box, or just anything you might imagine.
Add a bit of traditional glass glitter or mica glitter to highlight them and you'll certainly imagine them to be the originals rather than reproductions!
Natural Quahog half-Shells (Wampum)
Most often associated with Rhode Island, the quahog bi-valve clam is used for food as well as to make jewelry. At one time, wampum beads (fashioned from the purplish-cream inside of the shell) were used in trade between the settlers and the natives in North America.
These elegant shells are beautiful as is, giving a special touch to any shell collection. But they also shine as display dishes for pearls and jewelry, smaller shells and beads.
Native American Indian wampum was colored both purple and off-white, but the largest association is with the purple shells. All of our half-shells have some purple and the exterior is left rough, as found in nature.
As far as we know, the quahog shells offered to you by SilverCrow are the bi-product of someone's dinner. The hand-dug clams were eaten, and, rather than waste the shells, we have purchased the most elegant ones.

Vintage Hand-Tied Fly Fishing Fly on Hook
The art of tying fly fishing flies and lures has long been respected and enjoyed by sporting fishers worldwide. We were lucky enough to find a group of vintage flies that were hand-tied and made with scrupulous attention to detail. While all are similar, colors and materials vary. What fun to add this to a fishing vacation memory box or artwork for a fishing enthusiast!
Since we are not sure what fish this would lure, we can't suggest it for a specific application other than artwork, but we're pretty sure a fly fisher might enjoy one tied to the top of a gift!

Edward Weston: Nude (Face Down on Sand), 1936
Edward Weston was a photographer before his time! His elegant photos, mostly in black and white are renowned for their simple complexity. His critics insist that he produced far too many photos and was just lucky to have a few good shots. Those good shots were surely superb. He was the inspiration for many of today's black and white photographers.
This is a classic Weston nude on a beautiful art print postcard, suitable for framing.

Although not necessary for cleansing or ceremonies, a traditional smudge (or incense) burner is the natural abalone shell. The hand-carved stand is just right for a wonderful way to display your shell or incense dish and it will protect your table surfaces at the same time. Golden Venus Charm
Plucked right from Sandro Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, the Goddess of Love rises from the sea on a shell that is now named for her. The original painting was commissioned by the powerful Medici family who asked the painter to represent Venus in the manner of the ancients. She arose on the shell and was swept to shore by flying wind-gods amongst a shower of roses.
