Pieces of Eight
More Coins & Tokens
In the olden days of Pirates, coins were cut into eighths to make change. Back then, the true silver Spanish Ocho (8) Reale coin would be cut into pieces to make change. Our faux silver reproduction is true to shape and imprinting (but, alas, it is not real silvers). It is cut into pieces of the Eight Reale coin: one half, one quarter and two eighths!
This makes a fun gift for anyone interested in Pirates, the conquests of the sea, or history of money!

Of course we love flying birds, especially silvery ones, at SilverCrow. This little swallow measures about 1-7/8 inch high and 1-7/8 wide. Swallows do not have the stamina to fly very far, so they are often associated with staying close to home. Because of this, many sailors have chosen them as symbols in their tattoos.

Birth of Venus Enamel Pendant
More Pendants & Necklaces
More Italian Items
Sandro Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, the Goddess of Love rises from the sea on a shell that is now named for her. The original painting was commissioned by the powerful Medici family who asked the painter to represent Venus in the manner of the ancients. She arose on the shell and was swept to shore by flying wind-gods amongst a shower of roses.
This striking pendant measures 7/8 inch wide by 1-1/4 inch long. Made of vitreous enamel, each pendant is assembled by hand, so please allow for some variability. We have an assortment of these pendants - with different background essences. Most resemble the three colors illustrated above.
Equally beautiful as jewelry or as an art element in a shrine or assemblage, this unique piece is conservatively priced for such elegant craftsmanship.

3D Art Postcard - Hokusai Katsushika - The Great Wave
We love lenticulars - the layered paper and plastics that create a moving 3-dimensional effect. This wonderfully mailable post card features the familiar image of the Great Wave by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai who lived from 1760 to 1849.
He is quite famous for his wonderful wood-cut prints of the Ukiyo-e, pictures of the floating world - everyday life. His works seems to be more popular in the West than it has ever been in his homeland.
His striking image of the sea completed in this new lenticular form is simply spectacular - the movement is amazing. In fact the sea appears to transform into mountains, another of the artists favorite subjects. Although the transformation is hard to notice online, we're sure you'll be as awed by the images in person.

Art Postcard - Die Abfahrt (The Departure)
This wonderfully moving painting by German artist Quint Buchholz shows us an unlikely trio afloat, a king, a child and a lion. We suspect the time to be dusk or dawn as their craft is lit by a small lantern. They have chosen to bring along a window as well. The seabirds may not even have noticed them. Oh, the stories you might create from this lovely image.

Vintage Lenticular "Winky" Hula Dancers
More Lenticulars
More Summer
This is a really neat VariVue Motion Lenticular. This delightful pair of hula girls dances in black and white. It is a mint or near-mint condition vintage late 1950s / early 1960s authentic Vari-Vue of two Hawaiian hula dancers at night under a full moon.
Both dancers sway to the rhythm of the silent music. Uniquely, their entire bodies move back and forth, with arms swinging up and down and back and forth. These are truly remarkable effects that are best viewed in person, of course! This little piece is quite sturdy and measures 1-1/4 inch across by just about 1 inch. tall. A Great item!

Vintage Style Equator Sundial & Compass
This modern derivative of an ancient timekeeping device uses the reader's distance from the equator (aka latitude) to help determine the correct time of day.
Simply lay the sundial on a flat level surface and turn it so that the blue compass needle points to the N for North. Keeping the eyelet which holds the cord touching the table, then raise the opposite side of the dial as many degrees as your current latitude.
Each sundial comes with instructions and a list of latitudes (of cities, both large and small, exotic and historic) are included. It will be great fun for kids of all ages to tell time like seafarers (pirates and sailors alike) of old.

Vintage Hand-Tied Fly Fishing Fly on hook Hook
The art of tying fly fishing flies and lures has long been respected and enjoyed by sporting fishers worldwide. What fun to add this to a fishing vacation memory box or artwork for a fishing enthusiast!
Since we are not sure what fish this would lure, we can't suggest it for a specific application other than artwork, but we're pretty sure a fly fisher might enjoy one tied to the top of a gift!

Shaman Smudging Supplies
Whether you are performing a cleansing ceremony before healing, or just because you enjoy the scent, you'll enjoy our smudging supplies. It is important to cleanse the soul and body of bad spirits, negative energies and thoughts. These traditional items are prepared in much the same manner as they have been for generations of Native Americans. The herbs are quite aromatic, even if just displayed and never burned. Smudging involves taking the smoke in to your hands and brush or rub it over your body.
Our sage and cedar bundle measures between 6 and 8 inches long and is tightly woven (ties may differ). This is just the right size for personal use or for use in a sweat lodge.
Although not necessary for cleansing or ceremonies, a traditional smudge burner is the natural abalone shell. The hand-carved stand is just right for a wonderful way to display your smudge, but we can imagine the shell and stand the perfect base for many natural room accents.
Our combination smudge stick brings together the cleansing characteristics of sage and the connection to our ancestors represented by cedar.
Add our Smudging and Blessings Book and save!
Never leave smudge (sweetgrass or other) burning unattended and please use caution.

Natural Quahog half-Shells (Wampum)
Most often associated with Rhode Island, the quahog bi-valve clam is used for food as well as to make jewelry. At one time, wampum beads (fashioned from the purplish-cream inside of the shell) were used in trade between the settlers and the natives in North America.
These elegant shells are beautiful as is, giving a special touch to any shell collection. But they also shine as display dishes for pearls and jewelry, smaller shells and beads.
Native American Indian wampum was colored both purple and off-white, but the largest association is with the purple shells. All of our half-shells have some purple and the exterior is left rough, as found in nature.
As far as we know, the quahog shells offered to you by SilverCrow are the bi-product of someone's dinner. The hand-dug clams were eaten, and, rather than waste the shells, we have purchased the most elegant ones. over 5 inches in diameter.

Historic Sailing Ships Coloring Book
The Ate of Sail spread over most of history; with its passing passed some of the most beautiful engineering and aesthetic creations ever seen. See them sail the ocean once again and color them as vividly brilliant as ever in this survey of historic sailing ships coloring book.
34 large illustrations (including 9 double-page spreads) show how men once went down to the sea in ships: in a Phoenician war galley (7th century BC), Greek trireme (3 banks of oars, 480 BC), Roman merchantman, Viking longboat, European carracks, Columbus' Santa Maria, Vasco da Gama's Saint Gabriel, Drake's Golden Hind, an American whaler, the clipper Cutty Sark and even a Chinese junk.
The accurate black-and-white line drawings executed by the Swedish art firm Tre Tryckare show such detail as cross sections, cannon, rigging, sailors at their tasks and more. Old sea dogs and young will love the chance to recapture and embellish the great days of the sail. 48pages.
