Straw Satin Rayon Raffia in Pale Sky Blue
More Ties & Stretchy Stuff
More Natural Specialties
Although this is not the natural raffia made of straw, it is mad of rayon - so it is not synthetic at all! Because rayon is manufactured from cellulose fiber, it is truly one of the most renewable products around. The naturally occurring polymers in the plant cellulose make it not a synthetic, but it is not actually natural either as it must be manufactured to be used.
We think this an important, point, but, as philosophers, we agree that it could be argued that even natural wool yarn must be manufactured (spun) before it is used.
Now that all argument is aside, we must say that we love this stuff. It is great for wrapping presents. It adds a touch of elegance when used a s a bow on an organza bag. And we love it for making Ojos de Dios (God's Eye) ornaments.
You can use it as is (about 1/8 inch wide) or spread the width (to 7/8 inch). Either way, the lovely sky blue color will accent many projects nicely.

Natural Color Simulated Sinew - 20 yard Spool
Also Available in 100 Foot Spool
Sinew is a staple of historic Native American costume and household creations. The original natural sinew was made of the shredded fibers animal tendon. Used as cordage and a tying medium, it is naturally quite strong. It also shrank as it dried, providing a tight seal in any project.
Our simulated sinew certainly resembles the natural animal version. This synthetic version is made of 4-ply nylon cord. It looks and splits like the real thing. Super strong, we highly recommend this product for heavy sewing and construction of craft projects.
If you're thinking of making your own dreamcatchers, you'll want to use this for the webbing for an authentic look and feel.
Our simulated sinew is natural colored and each spool is about 20 yards long.

Elastic Mask Backs
Masks & Costumes, etc.
This is really hard to find - at least we thought so until now! These black elastics have barbs on either end. Designed to hold on a party hat or a mask, we're sure you'll find many more uses. Each elastic measures 12 inches from barb to bar. To use, created a tiny hole on either side of the mask or hat and feed the barb through the hole. Repeat on the other side. The stretching effect of the elastic will reposition the barb to lay flat - holding the end in place - so much more effective than a knotted end!

Quick Cord Maker
Love those beautiful fiber twists that adorn the projects in all the paper arts magazines? Not so sure how to make them? Try our new battery-operated Kumihimo Cord Maker.
Of course, you can braid using a lucet, a set of braiding cards, a traditional kumihimo marudai, a loom or any other of the many tedious methods. But when you're in a hurry for the perfect fiber embellishment, our Cord Maker fills the bill. Use it to twist fringe. Make sure you choose one or more of SilverCrow's Fibre Assortment packs so you'll have ample fibers to start twisting.
Make four 2-ply cords and then twist all four together! We're sure you'll love this as much as we did when we first saw it!
With a simple touch of the thumb, you can make professional 2- to 4-ply decorative cords as suitable for tassels, ties, fashion trimmings and jewelry; twisted fringe for warp ends and tassels, fiber embellishments for cards, assemblages, collages, ... even hair for your Art Dolls!

Cowboy Roping and Rope Tricks
More Books
More American West
We've seen it on America's Got Talent and we've been amazed by it for years - Cowboy Roping! Now this republication of the first (1928) edition, with a Foreword by Will Rogers "Warning!" by Fred Stone; "Advice" by Elsie Janis.
Exhibition rope spinning is a hundred-year-old American sport with strong Mexican roots, born amid the sights, sounds, smells and excitement of the great American West. One of the best of the old-time champion rope spinners was Chester Byers. When he wrote this book, he had behind him twenty years' experience of spinning his rope into rolls, figure 8s and zigzags in stampedes, rodeos, roundups and frontier days all over the United States of America. He has a good way with words, too, and if you'll follow his directions, you'll soon find yourself managing the rope like an old hand.
Besides being a wonderful spectacle, rope spinning makes great exercise, too. Even the first stunts the beginner learns - the Simple Flat Loop, the Vertical Loop and the Wedding Ring - bring into play the muscles of the right and left arms, shoulders, neck, back and legs. More difficult stunts like the Butterfly, Ocean Wave, Zigzag and Roll-over even professional athletes and dancers find real exercise! Practicing these complex stunts will not only keep you in good physical shape, but will sharpen the coordination of hand, eye and body.
In addition to clear written explanations, this book contains plenty of drawings that show you just how to stand, the correct positioning of hands and arms, how to hold the rope and so forth. All the information you'll need to begin rope spinning or improve your skill at it, is here: the best kinds of spinning rope, the type of honda preferable for different stunts, how to overcome typical beginner difficulties such as twists and kinks in the rope, and similar material.
There are photographs of the author, Will Rogers and other great rope spinners; illustrations of the different types of spinning ropes and loads of instructional photos & drawings as well as a list of trick and fancy ropers.
This trade paperback measures 5-3/8 by 8 inches and contains xxiii + 99 pages.

String Figures and How to Make them
At some time in your youth, no doubt, you took a loop of string and made a cat's cradle or a Jacob's Ladder or some other type of figure by looping and crossing the string between the fingers. This is actually an ancient form of amusement - that is practiced worldwide and is especially popular among indigenous peoples.
This unabridged republication of the 1906 original is softbound with 950 illustrations and 17 full-page plates - a full 407 pages of fun!
This book describes in a simple and easy-to-follow manner, how to make no less than 107 different figures - just as they are made in their lands of origin. The description of each figure and the process of making it is accompanied by several simply drawn sketches that show each distinct step as it would be viewed by the person making the figure. The illustrator has taken great care to show in each sketch all the loops, all the intertwinings as they should appear at each stage of the process.
Equally interesting as a source of amusement and interest to anthropologists and collectors, we're sure you'll enjoy this modern old-fashioned pastime!

Because SilverCrow's Aztec Braids are all hand-made, each is different, so please let us choose one for you.
