I distinctly remember the first time I saw a cartoon with a light bulb above a character's head - meant to represent a bright idea. I had no idea what that meant.
My Dad explained it to me - with Thomas Edison as part of the explanation. There has been a lot of controversy over the discovery of electricity and the fight for America's power - with such bright thinkers as Tesla, Edison and Westinghouse. But there has never been controversy regarding the meaning of a light bulb over a cartoon character's head.
We're kind of saddened with the demise of the incandescent bulb - the compact fluoro bulbs just don't have the ambiance of the older Edison bulbs. The new halogen and LED bulbs are a bit nicer. We're all for energy savings, but we're caught in the past, too.
Our sweet old-fashioned bulb pendant lets us remember the good old days . It is reversible and has a nice weight to it, but it's not quite 3D. It measures 1-3/8 inch high by 3/4 inch wide by not quite 1/4 inch deep.
