Sideshows have virtually disappeared from the Circus and Carnival Circuit although a few can still be seen around the world. Because many of the acts involved people and animals with disabilities and handicaps, customers had dwindled, not wanting to take advantage of the performers. There was much protest by the performers themselves, because often these were the only jobs available to them. This provocative photograph features small and large people, sword swallowers and performs of all kinds.
The photograph was taken by Century Studio and is taken from a photo in the Hertzberg Circus Collection at the San Antonio Public Library.
