At 5:13 o'clock A.M. of this 18th day of April, 1906
San Francisco and vicinity was visited with a most
violent earthquake shock."
-Clerk of the US District Court of San Francisco
What followed was even more devastating. There was a huge fire and not enough fire fighters to stop it. It took the city a long time to build it back into the gorgeous place it is today.
This photo postcard shows the devastation of just one San Francisco street with residents not able to do anything but look. The photographer was Arnold Genthe.
