All of us can make a difference in the world. And we can recognize those others who chose to serve others either physically or spiritually.
The image embodies the help of us all - to feed and quench the thirst spiritually and physically. Only the hands and the offering are visible, representing us all.
The Call to Serve Cross is ideal as a gift for a volunteer (or group of volunteers). You might also consider it as a Confirmation or Graduation remembrance, celebrating the new beginnings as these milestones pass.
Made of heavy, solid bronze in Germany, the cross measures 3-1/2 inches high (including the unobtrusive hanging hole) and 3-1/4 inches wide.
It reads in raised letters juxtaposed to the background, GO OUT INTO THE WORLD. Christians may recognize this as a paraphrasing of Matthew 28:19. The message is for all of us.
From the artist and artisans:
What you have in your hands is truly a work of art.
This bronze piece starts as an idea in the artist's imagination and is crafted into form. Then, it is made into a unique sand cast and compressed into a mold that can withstand the heat and pressure from 1200 degree molten bronze. In the final stages, each piece is tumbled and sanded, patina added and then polished by goldsmiths who bring the artist's vision to life.
Artisans who created this piece for you apprentice for three years to learn the Old World techniques. Each piece is touched by at least a dozen pairs of hands. Feel the weight of the art as you reflect on how it inspires you in truth and beauty. Notice the details, the places where light plays off its polished edges and the space that draws you in and allows you to connect meaning to your own life. This beauty can be shared for generations to come.
