These hand-carved boxwood Diablo beads, are inspired by antique Japanese ojime - the sliding bead on the cord of the Inro Box. The devil is represented by an oni mask - based in a demon spirit world. These spirits are known for punishing the unjust and evil.
Each diablo bead is hand-carved by a contemporary Chinese Master-Carver, who takes up to four hours to make just one! The back of each bead is signed by the artisan as well.
This alluring fellow measures around 1 inch high by 3/4 inch wide. The stringing hole is approximately 1.5mm. There is an open space through the back of the bead (see our illustrations), with a much smaller hole drilled front to back through the top of his head.
As each is hand-carved, each is a unique work of art, but all are similar to the one shown, so please let us choose one for you.
