Saint Jude is the beloved patron of those in desperate situations or think that they are lost causes. Many people have held him dear and entrusted their lives for him to show them the way.
We commissioned this lovely nicho and Santo in much the same way that the original settlers did - unless they were talented enough to make retablos or Santos themselves. The original versions of such religious artwork were often made for small chapels and the settlers' homes and created by itinerant artists.
Each of these is handmade of recycled wood - Mexican rejas (fruit crates) and then hand painted. The entire piece measures just about 9 inches high, 3 inches high and 3 inches deep. There is additional space for you to add your own special items to pay homage, if you choose. Each is handmade, so please allow for some variation.
We love the primitive look and feel of such pieces.
We can no longer get these carvings as the artist and our good friend, Bryant "Eduardo" Holman, left us on June 1, 2009.
