Known as a local or folk saint, El Niño Fidencio Constantino has not been recognized by the Vatican as a saint. He was a local curandero (healer), born in Mexico.
El Niño Fidencio was known to heal many, even of sadness, as he was such a happy man. He used traditional ways of healing as well as psychological ones.
He is venerated today by many and his followers, fidencitos, who make pilgrimages to his town twice yearly to celebrate his healing and to hope for miracles. Some of the fidencitos go into trance-like states, believed to become El Niño and are transferred his healing powers for that short while.
