We are especially proud of this special Day of the Dead Calavera, as he represents the Curanderos who are so revered throughout Latin culture as holy healers. Each of these is represented with a cactus plant - usually the fronds of the cactus are formed in skull-like fashion. Although there are many women who perform such services, our figures are generally men or gender-neutral.
OR, it can represent the tree of death. This, like many other images, can have so many different meanings - even opposing meanings - such as these - healing vs. death.
Just like the rest of our Day of the Dead Figurines, each of these Muertos is hand sculpted and painted by traditional artisans in Mexico. The vignettes vary in the position and dress of the calavera and the nopal cactus, but most measure about 5 to 6 inches high. Please let us choose one for you.
