The lovely cornflower is also known as a bachelor's button, because all too often it was worn as a boutonnière. This lovely flower is an old-time flower with much folklore associated with it. It is also modern and is the national flower of many countries including Estonia, Finland and Germany (one of several national flowers).
Years ago, young men in love wore cornflowers in their lapels. If the flower faded too quickly, the bachelor could be assured that his love would be unrequited.
