What a great find! Of course, lots of artists have been using these for some time, but we still love them! The original purpose for these is to hold 1 by 3 inch glass or plastic microscope slides securely for mailing. Created from chipboard, the mailer opens like a book and inside are recessed wells to hold the slides.
The rounded indentation at the top of each well is a finger notch to make it simpler to place and remove each slide. Of course, you can do just about anything you want with these - stamp them, paint them, collage or découpage them. Create a little shrine or use it as a special frame (with microscope glass to cover the indentation.
The chipboard is a bit over 1/2 inch thick, so it is nice and sturdy. When closed, the mailers measure
