Saint Agatha was a young, beautiful and rich woman who devoted her life to God in the early 3rd century.
Prior to being martyred around 250 AD, the cruel rulers sent her to work in a brothel where she refused to accept customers. For this, she was punished severely. Her torturers were so evil that they focused their torment on her breasts as well as making her roll on hot coals. She has become the Patron of those who suffer breast cancer because of her terrifying ordeal.
