Santa Lucia, famed of the Italian folk song, is the Patron Saint of Vision. She is shown here on this lovely postcard holding and image of eyes and a palm or reed.
Lucy was persecuted by non-Christians and the story has it that she was blinded by a non-Christian wishing to marry her. She would not give up her religion and courageously gave up her eyes. Her legend ends with God restoring her eyesight.
She is revered by both the Catholic and Orthodox religions and is one of the few saints recognized by the Lutheran Church as well.
This wonderful art postcard is a reproduction of a vintage prayer card featuring St. Lucy.
