Martin de Porres Velázquez, O.P. was born in the 16th century and was a member of the Dominican Order. He is the Patron Saint of mixed-raced peoples and those of us who strive to seek racial harmony. He was the illegitimate son of a nobleman and a freed slave. He was known for his work with the poor, living an austere life. His love and care for animals were well known throughout South America.
Handmade by traditional metalsmiths in Mexico, this wonderful milagro stamping is three dimensional with an indented open back. We love that the stampings are both debossed and embossed, creating a really unique look that reflects light in a lovely manner.
Because these are handmade, each milagro is very slightly different as each has been hand stamped and cut, but all are basically the same. Each measures just under 2 inches high (including the hanging hole) by 1-3/8 inch wide at the widest and just over 1/16 inch deep.
