Saint Lazarus is the Patron Saint of the Sick, now especially known as the patron for those who suffer from HIV and AIDS. In fact, many hospices are dedicated to him.

He is usually represented as a thin man on crutches, with ragged clothes and the sores of a leper about his body. The dogs that accompany him lick his wounds as they attempt so restore his health and abate his suffering.

The primitive statue is meant to be just that, referencing Saint Lazarus' sad life.

Our statue was hand painted by Eduardo (Bryant) Holman, a true philosopher, artist and good friend who is no longer among us. He brought Mexican traditions and folk religions to light in the Americas. Although statues of Saint Lazarus are still available, very few, if any, were created by Eduardo and certainly hard to find today.

We believe that the statue is made of resin, but we are not sure. His crutches are made of sturdy wire.
