Born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhi in Albania (now the Republic of Macedonia), Mother Teresa devoted here life to the poor and destitute people of the world. Even as such a devout and giving person, she was often criticized for her methods and beliefs. Her spirit has spread to many who recognize her as the worldwide beacon of hope. She was awarded the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize.
