DESCRIPTION

The 19th century saw much religious upheaval in Uganda and other African nations. The King Muteesa I invited Anglican, Catholic and Islam missionaries to Buganda.

Thus followed a 3-way religious and political struggle that did not end well for anyone. All were ordered to death by Mwanga II.

There were many martyrs of each religion who suffered during this time. The 22 Catholic martyrs are honored on this striking holy card. They were each beatified by the Roman Catholic Church in 1920 and were then canonized as Saints in 1964 by Pope Paul VI.

Images of the Catholic martyrs are pictured on the front of the card. On the back, you'll find the Saints' names and their fates.

The laminated card measures 3-1/2 inches high by 2 inches wide. Some cards show a bit of foxing as they were cut and laminated by hand. The card will fit in most wallets, if you wish to carry it with you at all times.
