DESCRIPTION

Jesus and Mary are featured on either side of this special aluminum Jerusalem Cross

On one side, centered between the Greek Letters A-O (Alpha - Omega), symbolizing the beginning and the end of all things, is an image of Jesus Christ with the Crown of Thorns. Atop and at the bottom are symbols representing the monograms of Jesus in Greek.

On the reverse, the image of the Blessed Mother features a star above her and a fleur-di-lis at the bottom. On the "arms" crosspiece on the sides of Mary, CRUSADE.

Nicely pressed of aluminum, the smaller crosses are debossed and then finished with enamel paint.

The Jerusalem Cross is a Christian emblem. There is a large central cross surrounded by 4 smaller crosses. The 5 crosses are said to represent the wounds of Jesus Christ; the 4 crosses, the Evangelists. It is often associated with the Crusades and the Holy Land. It is believed that the symbol was originally born around medieval times.
