This wonderful sealing wax set is old - but new in the box - never used! We're guessing from the font on the label and the making of the box that this is from around the 1930s.
The box itself is quite nice, although it shows some wear. It is a slide box made of lovely hand printed papers. The seal atop the box reads:
A COLLINS ARDEN
2/11 incl. Tax
The 2/11 has been crossed out by hand in pencil and above the word, Tax, someone has written in pencil 2/6. On the bottom of the box, there are some pencil notations that read:
The box shows some wear that comes with age, but is in otherwise good condition.
This is British sealing wax and we believe the contents to be complete inside, including the waxed wicks by which to melt the sealing wax.
Each of the 3 sealing wax sticks measures 5-1/2 inches by 9/16 inch by 1/4 inch. They are in copper, gold and silver. There are 2 ivory candle wax wicks for lighting the sealing wax, we assume. They are a little shorter than the sealing wax.
Lovely to collect, but, since sealing wax ages so well, it would be even more fun to use in your art work. Then you might use the box to make a shrine or other art. The box measures 5-5/8 inches wide by 3 inches wide by 5/8 inch deep.
